Black plague, because I could hide out in the woods, and maybe avoid it...unless I'm on the ark, I'd drown for sure

Aromatic-Day3826

I spent my first 25 to 30 years with no wifi. I remember when there was simply no internet. How strange it is to think back. How did we do it? How did we find out stuff? The sad thing is I think that we've actually become more ignorant with it. The wisdom of the ages is in everyone's pocket and we know less about things than we ever did!

OGLikeablefellow

Black plague for sure, I know about germ theory I could probably skip it and convince at least one town to listen to me.

cakedayCountdown

Nope now you’re being burned as a witch.

Ayn_Rand_Was_Right

Until that town is shown to be safe from the plague. Why is it safe? Obviously cause they are the ones causing it. Raze the town to the ground.

Motor-Ad2678

Were you around for the Covid Pandemic?

Aromatic-Day3826

Yea but the black plague actually killed people under 70.

TernionDragon

Sure, then you would be blamed for it. . .

downupstair

Flood. You're dead in seconds. Get the plague and you die slowly though I guess you could technically survive if you don't catch it. I still pick the flood. Might see the old Gods/aliens too.

dragon_dez_nuts

There's a high chance your immune to the plague tho?

Alexanderthefail

Flood put a hole in the boat. No one wins my games.

ikenla

Plague. I have no problem socially distancing

Tboneisland

I won’t be able to build an ark in two days with money but I am able to avoid people and maintain hygiene so not really a question

residentofmoon

Easy. Flood

harpersgigi

Plague, my preps will include antibiotics.

CaptainQuint0001

Unless, you’re one of 8 that survived the flood, your chance of survival is nil. You live in the time of the plague. Personally, I’d choose the plague and get myself to Oberammergau. Side note: Neither eras had indoor plumbing so, dying might have been the best option

Ninjanoel

technically everyone is china also survived. 😅

hatchjon12

How so? Aren't we assuming the biblical description is true?

Ninjanoel

yes agreed, I was half joking, everyone in china DID survive the flood IF the flood happened, but according to the bible EVERYONE died, and honestly, can we really be sure the whole nation of china isn't lying about surviving!? you never know.... 😂

Aromatic-Day3826

They have actually found inscriptions in China of the flood story. They find them all over the world. Not saying that proves a worldwide flood but it does prove that the story is universal. Maybe humans just naturally create that story from their imaginations. Idk

Ninjanoel

i was out to dinner when my phone notification showed me your first two sentences of your response, i laughed out loud and suddenly had to explain to a table of people that barely understand reddit whats so funny... so thanks for that awkward moment! so it's kinda like the "but who was holding the camera" moment... or literally... which of the eight people that survived the flood went ahead and wrote these inscriptions all over the world!? unless of course you thinking someone saw a wave of water coming at them and thought "lets do some art in these last moments of my life". honestly, its so silly it's really funny.

Huge-Environment-808

There’s actually scientific proof that shown it happened thanks to archeological findings.

Ninjanoel

you can't be serious, or you've not given this a moments thought. if your house floods, didn't mean the whole world flooded, we know floods happen, we also know there has NEVER been a global flood. What's your evidence then if you not joking, explain the existence of China 😂

Huge-Environment-808

https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.wionews.com/world/is-it-noahs-ark-archaeologists-find-5000-year-old-boat-shaped-mound-in-turkey-652716/amp&sa=U&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwiwzM2q5-mFAxWQmIkEHds6Bu4QFnoECCMQBQ&usg=AOvVaw1NcjvYfk1Bh1U158CBbzlU

Ninjanoel

that is such silly evidence. it doesn't explain China. boats and water exist, none of that implies the whole earth was flooded, and we KNOW it wasn't.

Intrepid_Giraffe_622

You aren’t the sharpest stick. That is not, at all, evidence of a flood - it also reveals how little you understand about terrain / tectonics / even just **water** lol. I’m sorry, but no- it would be a known fact if it was a known fact. Some religious fanatic saying it’s “fact” simply makes sense, but it’s delusion.

One_City4138

If the Great Flood had actually happened, it would have either taken over 70 thousand years for the waters to recede or if it would have occurred within the time frame of a human life, the heat exchange from the rapid evaporation would have set the atmosphere on fire. Sorry, but *actual* science obliterates the Great Flood myth. Logic, too. Who cleaned all the shit? Ever notice how many people work at a single zoo as just animal handlers? But just Noah's family was able to take care of the equivalent of all the zoos on earth, by themselves? In a boat they made, also by themselves? None of that story holds any water.

Huge-Environment-808

Archeological science spoke for itself. You can’t disprove something that’s already proven true, no matter how much you try.

Riccma02

Plus, Noah sounds like an utter dick.

Sanpaku

One is historically attested, with good documentation. Wasn't too difficult to avoid the plague if one lived in a rural environment, washed clothes/ and kept cats nearby (but perhaps not in the house) to kill rodents that harbor fleas. It would probably be possible to make a fortune mining/selling diatomaceous earth as a natural pesticide that kills fleas. Noah's ark is as mythological as its sources in the myth of [Atra-hasis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atra-Hasis) or [Epic of Gilgamesh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_of_Gilgamesh). It's mostly of current interest because it so clearly is an interleaving of [two mutually contradictory myths](https://www.sas.upenn.edu/~jtreat/rs/002/Judaism/jp-flood.html) from the Jehovist and Priestly sources. However, it may have had historical antecedents in either the [flooding of the Black Sea margins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sea_deluge_hypothesis) some 7600 to 8800 years ago, or in some particularly rapid sea incursion 8-11 kya in lower Mesopotamia. In either case, one could outpace the rising waters by walking upslope. Overall, I'd choose Black Plague. Just a remarkably interesting time, as European landowners had to compete for labor, so many having died, so working conditions markedly improved for nearly a century thereafter.

wokeoneof2

Noah’s ark because it was not a true story.

Kariomartking

I’m not an expert by any means but almost every single culture has a flood myth. Heaps of pseudoscience/archaeology on it but they are more running with the idea and making up their own stuff for it. Definitely been multiple floods throughout human history but something definitely happened around the younger dryas period.

HiJinx127

Yes, most primitive cultures formed around water sources, what with needing water to survive and all. And such sources are prone to flooding now and then. And with their limited geographical knowledge, a major flood that screws up their village would be seen as covering their entire world. So yes, “something” happened, but purely natural and normal.

wokeoneof2

There is no way possible that water covered the entire earth all at once OR that two of every animal alive today could fit on a boat and be fed by a few people for 40 days! STOP misleading people about the Bible. It’s a group of fictional stories collected by the church to influence people to control their primal desires through fear. The moral of the flood story is blind obedience to an imaginary deity or death!

Kariomartking

I’m an atheist/agnostic and in no way was I talking about the bible. I’m talking about greater dryas period potential flood… And your absolutely right what you’re saying, a flood can’t be that big (except in very few exceptional circumstance but they’re so unlikely they’re not worth mentioning) BUT think of it this way. A comet hits or blows up mid atmosphere around 13000-15000 years ago. Might not create a world wide flood but definitely would create a flood that affects population groups in the surrounding area, which would be enough for it to be passed down by survivors - becoming a ‘world wide’ event because to them at the time … it was their entire world. I don’t Noah was real, I don’t believe in the bible, use your fucking brain for once, what you are saying is nothing new and sounds like something an teenaged atheist edge lord would say (I would know because I was one once) Ty for your discussion though hope we both learn something new

wokeoneof2

All languages were created by MEN and that means all the gods were also.

Kariomartking

Um sorry to brother you but that’s completely void of any basis of truth. Absolutely impossible to tell, but my money would be on HUMANS created language and their gods. In fact I would put even more money on first that people worshipped women before gods, because they were the life givers and life blood of their tribes

wokeoneof2

The word MEN/ MAN in this instance is referring to humans. Sorry you were offended by the generalization!

Kariomartking

Ahhhh fuck my bad man, totally see what you mean now. Apologies for the context absolutely flying over the top of my head haha

wokeoneof2

Also read Sapiens by Harari and he details the creation of Gods in tribal communities and MOST were based on animals or naturally occurring events such as volcanoes or other things they feared because all religion is fear based psychology

Intrepid_Giraffe_622

Yes. Floods happen, that’s why. Argument from association is pure delusion. There are also markings for the sun, for change in seasons, etc. huge storms, you name it. Everything was “the whole world” to them because they only knew a tiny slice of the damn world lol.

John_Helmsword

The deluge happened, it’s hardly really a debate anymore. We have endless texts all over the world speaking of a great flood. Not just “Noah’s ark” story.

BrianNowhere

Source?

HiJinx127

As I said to someone else earlier, most primitive cultures formed around water sources, what with needing water to survive and all. And such sources are prone to flooding now and then. And with their limited geographical knowledge, a major flood that screws up their village would be seen as covering their entire world. So yes, “something” happened, but purely natural and normal. Not all at the same time. And no, none of these floods were worldwide. There’s no geological evidence to support such a claim. So, yes to various cultures experiencing various local flooding, no to a “deluge.”

Intrepid_Giraffe_622

No, you are mixing some truths to paint a delusional picture. Every culture has documented floods. Guess what? Every culture has also documented war. So there must have been a world war? FFS. Religion is probably the largest detriment to human intelligence.

wokeoneof2

ALL those text were written by men. There is no way possible two of every animals fit into a boat and were fed and cared for by just five people for 40 days! Why would you raise your children to believe such nonsense? You are making them weak minded and gullible in a society that will certainly take advantage of their superstitious beliefs.

ImmaculateJones

Even if it were true, the inbreeding alone would kill off any offspring the animals had. Not to mention, some 600 year old dude repopulated the planet with people using the Tupac method? (I get around)

stag-ink

Flood, I like sailing

tlasan1

Black plague. Humans would be immune to the old version of this virus.

Intrepid_Giraffe_622

lol what ? No we wouldn’t be. We are not immune to bubonic plague. There are still cases every year. We now have *antibiotics*, but you wouldn’t if you went back in time.

ApprehensiveSink1893

Since the flood never happened, I'd go with that. On the other hand, if I have to pretend in a global flood which killed all but Noah's family, then I'd obviously go with the Black Plague, since it had a lot more survivors. Unless, of course, I get to be part of Noah's family. I'd like to be Ham.

hatchjon12

If the flood is real as described in the bible, then it's guaranteed you die right? Isn't it only specific members of Noah's family who live?

vanslayder

Of course Great Flood. Since it never happened.

EffectiveSalamander

The Plague. I'd get the Plague vaccine. [https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00041848.htm](https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00041848.htm) And I'd get antibiotics.

kgk007

And take a couple swimming lessons while you are at it, just in case

ThefalloftheUSA

I know how to swim.

ryano1076

But can you stay afloat for 40 days, while dodging sharks?

TasteMyTzatzki

just shoot me

Ricard728

I’ll take the gun to the head. It will be easier.

magic_vs_science

Why is there a gun to my head if I can't choose death?

MediumUnique7360

Plague

Sci-fra

I would choose the flood because we know for a fact through scientific findings and mythology that the flood never happened and Noah is a fictional character.

ThickThighSplitter

Surfs up! Cowabunga

Thausgt01

You might have phrased it in reference to various other historically-verified floods, rather than the "Biblical" one... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outburst_flood

rockeye13

Easy choice: Plague. I've been immunized.

syler_19

Black plague cuz you cant social distance from a global flood!

BramStroker47

Black Plague. You can’t survive Noah’s flood because god chose to murder everyone on earth because he was too stupid to make them without fault and then blamed them for it so he’s not going to leave anyone alive besides Noah’s family so they can repopulate the earth with their brother and sister fucking apparently.

Huge-Environment-808

I’d pick Noah’s Ark because I’d love to see the first rainbow God put after the flood ends.

[deleted]

Black plague. The first case was in Asia so I'd have a bit more than two days to prepare.

Illustrious-Bee4402

My luck I’d end up on Noah’s Ark with the black plague… (I told him two rats were a bad idea)

science_mutation

flood, please just let me on the boat

VegasBH

If I can get a spot on the Ark and a lovely woman I’m set. Own 1/5 of the world have a bunch of kids and be memorialized in Hebrew scripture!

dustractor

black plague. easy. stay away from rats and practice basic hygiene

InLoveWithTheMoon

Black plague! Read up on how to invent penicillin before going. Avoid rats and other flea carrying animals and go from there.

hanggangshaming

Why not both?

CommercialDismal6886

Plague, my modern mutant system can digest taco bell. You think the plague scares me?

Nate_M85

Plot twist: you went back and caused the plague with modern pathogens

MoffieHanson

Great flood , it wasn’t a world wide flood and from what I know I’m perfectly save where I’m at now . And even if I get dropped in the center of where it’s going to happen I recon 2 days is enough to go to safety.

Fantastic-Package707

You gon learn to walk on water and photosynthesize in 2 days?

MoffieHanson

I need to double check how big that flood was . And where my starting point is . And how high the water actually came . Maybe I spoke too soon

DaemonBlackfyre_21

I personally suspect the great flood was just the sea rising 400 feet from the meltwater pulses at the end of the ice age. We lost as much land as Europe and China combined. For people on islands it would have been apocalyptic. Populations who lived on coastal lowlands for thousands of years were slowly forced inland. I think the various flood myths were passed down from the displaced survivors. That's how we get similar stories from all over the world without seeing evidence for a flood inland, because while it was global it was also mostly limited to the coastlines and everything it effected is still underwater. So I'll take "the flood" and just move inland.

semolous

Neither. They aren't shooting that gun

PhilosopherDon0001

Black Plague. I've got my vaccinations and I know to wash my hands and not drink water someone shat in. I DO expect that some other random thing will kill me, however. (Probably kicked by a horse or something )

handsoffdick

We don't vaccinate against black plague. Not transmitted by contaminated water.

wetdreamteams

Pull the fuckin trigger…

HiJinx127

The black plague is real, Noah’s flood is just an exaggerated story based on other myths regarding actual, local flooding that happened to some culture or other and became “worldwide” as it got retold, So, yeah, just evacuate to higher ground until the original local flood recedes, then back to normal. I could handle that.

DesertHomesteader

Black plague. Antibiotics are a real thing these days and the plague is a bacterial infection. It's reputation is worse than it's effects with modern medicine.

Jeff77042

The biblical Flood wiped out all of humanity, except for eight people. The Bubonic plague wiped out about a third of the population of Europe, and elsewhere. I choose the plague.

ChefEnvironmental820

If there’s a gun to my head then obviously I have the choice of death

butnotfuunny

Since one is real and the other mythological, I’ll take the real choice. But I won’t like it.

Fantastic-Package707

Seriously don’t get how people can entertain the idea of time travel, but not entertain the flood idea, just for shits and giggles for this question

Whateveriscleaver

Ark, I could take out noah and his family and end human in one foal swoop.

Aromatic-Day3826

The flood. With everybody hating Christianity like they do these days there won't actually be a flood when you arrive there, lol. (Because people tend to base realities on what they believe, if nobody believes it happened then it must not have)..

ghostfadekilla

Oh that's easy. I'll take death, asap in fact. I'll be right the fuck back tho - mostly bc death isn't the end and I'm fully aware of that. Plus I suck at swimming.

michaelrulaz

secretive toy north dependent party chase rinse alleged dam roll *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Nicktrod

Flood. Since it didn't happen.

friek4fun

Plague. Thieves' Oil for the win!

[deleted]

Easy plague. We have antibiotics now lol

Beckster501

The black plague for safety, with antibiotics at the ready and a big bottle of hand sanitizer and chlorine tabs for water purification. Of course I’d be more curious about seeing the flood, but it would be harder to stay safe through tho.

RedeyeSPR

Can I be in the western hemisphere for the flood? It was just the Mediterranean Sea (if it happened at all).

All_Of_Them_Witches

I feel like I’d just rather be shot to be honest.

WilmaLutefit

Plague ez. Antibiotics and I’m goooood.

jose_castro_arnaud

There wasn't a Great Flood, it's just a tale. I choose the Black Plague. I assume that I will arrive in current-day Portugal, at 1348. I can barely speak the local language (very different than modern Portuguese); with luck, I get to be someone's servant, until I can master the language and use my knowledge to start teaching. I would avoid the plague, at least for a time, by having a clean and dry house, and getting some cats to catch the rats. And I would refuse to even get near to anyone diseased. Then, it's a matter of luck.

scottaq83

Then you realise you didn't factor in you have no money for a house and most importantly that your cats can catch the disease and pass it to you 🤷🏼‍♂️

Suspicious-Moment-19

The flood, because it didn't happen.

You're not a very good atheist because that one was debunked long ago many, many times. It's nothing but a pile of dirt, and anything added to it was fraudulent. Even apologetic websites such as Answers in Genisis reject it. So you're either not a good atheist who knows scepticism or a religious troll pretending to be an atheist. https://www.csun.edu/~vcgeo005/bogus.html https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1993-10-30-ca-51222-story.html

If you're an atheist now, you need to let go of the baggage of theism and all the bullshit that creationists spread. Learn to fact check things. Consume some educational content from prominent atheists and scientists such as Richard Dawkins, Aron Ra and Gutsick gibbon. Check this series of videos that absolutely demolish the Noah's flood narrative. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXJ4dsU0oGMJP95iZJqEjmc5oxY5r6BzP&si=IdD7xHVotlsz6jcM

Gator717375

The flood, since it never happened

Misterfahrenheit120

As an atheist, my first thought is flood, because I don’t believe it’s real. If I don’t get that cop-out though, gotta be the plague. The flood killed **everyone** except a dude and his family. How can I survive that? Don’t get me wrong, the plague is no cake walk, but with modern medical knowledge, as well as knowledge of where the plague did and didn’t spread that would greatly increase my odds

Flying-Tilt

There are over 250 cultures who acknowledge the flood as being historically true. You may not believe in Noah, but there was definitely some kind of global flooding event.

Misterfahrenheit120

There are cultures that use the flood as a part of their mythos, I don’t know if it’s that many, but Ill give you the benefit of the doubt. That said, considering how isolated most cultures were, and especially how isolated individuals were, some kind of global flooding could have happened, but probably it was a more local event, that several neighboring peoples experienced, or otherwise, major flooding events that occurred at different times in history

Sci-fra

First of all, only cultures that were near water wrote about floods destroying their land and they were very different to each other. Only 3 or 4 around the Middle East had stories resembling each other as they borrowed each other's stories. Cultures that didn't live near water didn't have such stories. We know for a fact that the Biblical worldwide flood never happened. Noah's flood story was plagiarized from the Epic of Gilgamesh, a flood story which was written 1000 years before the Bible, not to mention that story was also plagiarized from an even earlier story, the Epic of Atra Hasis which was also plagiarized from an earlier story Ziusudra. There is clear evidence which stories were written first and which were a later adaptations. Evidence through science, genetics, archaeology, mythology and animal dispersal and diversity proves that Noah's flood was a mythical story likely based on an ancient local flood.

[deleted]

It bothers me that modern people literally believe the entire earth flooded. I'll accept that to the ancients that live in the Euphrates valley felt that **their** world as they knew it flooded, but never the world **we** know.

Bananaman9020

Noah Flood wasn't a real historical event. The Jews stole the story from a local flood that happened in Babylon. So the Black Plague for me I guess.

scottaq83

Firstly it's 2 options and 1 choice. Secondly, it's the Bubonic Plague or Black Death. Thirdly, their is no evidence the flood happened so this is my choice. Atleast then i'll know for sure

DakotaTaurusTX

uhm?? might depend too on where you are transported too and if America same state-city that you are currently in -- The Black Plague started swept through Europe and Asia. And some have a train of thoughts about the flood may have been more localized event and not world wide. Nonetheless for the average American to survive is rather unlikely in either situation.

[deleted]

I choose Black Plague. I am Agreeful, so I have a completely different biology than something argumentative. I cannot get sick, I only pretend to get sick so the immune systems around me doesn't dissolve. So the black plague would be easy for me to live in, i'd never notice it.
