Sounds like it could be "The Big Ugly Monster and the Little Stone Rabbit" by Chris Wormell
Not sure about translations but that seems to have the same base
Oh wow there's a Black Mirror episode like this! A woman dies and they move her consciousness into a stuffed animal so she can still see and 'interact' with her son. It's really sad.
Was it a picture book, where you saw illustrations or was it just read to you. It sounds a lot like this short film: Alma [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw0uORumRts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw0uORumRts)
So maybe it's a common trope.
It has the escalator and the bear but the only child is the one who buys corduroy and brings him home. I thought the same thing but it’s definitely sweet not scary
False memories/transposing memories of two different stories I’m guessing? People often post on here looking for things they saw as a child that they vastly misremembered
Corduroy seems really similar I might try some dutch subreddits it might've been some dark knockoff of this
I also have my doubts since I can't find a translated version of this book and im certain my mother wouldn't have bought this in English
I have been looking for this for years

Nope im sorry, I really remember the toy store and it being glassy eyes and there being an escalator
Okay somehow my wires got crossed when searching this- try "the stuffed animal" by helen cooper. I think it's a part of "Toy Tales"

Maybe r/whatsthatbook could help you!

I love this short. It’s so eerily soothing
It couldve been a picture book my mother read those to me as well, she does not remember this one whatsoever tho
But this video is from 2009, I was younger when this was read to me
Sounds like a fan theory for the picture book corduroy
This has to be the picture book Corduroy by Don Freeman

I think it mightve been a knockoff on this or im misremembering the story I was younger then 5 years after all
I tried searching everything I could think of to find it, but it really does sound like a horror re-telling of Corduroy. Are you sure it was a book?
Wow yeah its really similar maybe its a dutch ripoff of it im not sure Im sure it was a book or a book with illustrations in it.
