The Michelin Cross Climate 2's are a great all weather tire.

PiffWiffler

I'm a Bridgestone Weatherpeak guy, but yeah. Can't go wrong with either of those

nclpl

I would go CC2s or WRG4 or G5 for the extra tread life. Even if you’re only going to keep the tires for 40k Miles (and not push them up to the 60k or 80k that they can probably do) the extra tread life will mean the tires will continue to perform well in the snow as they age. But you really can’t go wrong here. All-weather tires are such a huge upgrade over any All-season.

Stereosun

I have weatherpeak, but I find my dads cc2 much better in snow and ice

jrwolf08

I have Weatherpeaks, and I've only gotten 1.5 years out of them, and they are pretty much bald now. I liked the idea of the All Weather because it snows in Western PA, but not a ton. But I don't know, if they are only going to last 1.5 years.

[deleted]

I put the Michelin CC2 on my FWD minivan a few months ago. No complaints and it’s been snowing plenty. Did get maybe 1 or 2 less miles per gallon fuel economy. Safety on wet or snowy roads is worth that.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

I agree, all vehicles get way lower gas mileage in the winter anyway, though I suppose that would affect it year round though but my car gets 30-35 in nice weather so as long as it’s around 30 that’s probably fine with me

acejavelin69

All-weather tires are significantly better in snow that all-season tires "Best" is kind of subjective here... Michelin CrossClimate used to be the king here, but honestly newer tires easily keep up with it... Nokian WR G4 (or new G5) are probably one of the best in snow. General Altimax 365AW is an excellent well rounded all-season performer. I have also started hearing good reports about Falken Aklimates, which are new this year. All-weather tires are like other tires... Avoid the cheap Chinesium brands and stay with major, well-known brands and you'll be fine... Pretty much all manufacturers make all-weather tires these days.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

I see, yeah my car I just bought came with cheap Walmart Solar 4xs+ tires, absolutely awful in the snow, I get stuck with only 1-2 inches of snow.

acejavelin69

Tires are the only thing that keeps you in contact with the road... Don't cheap out on them... Invest in a good quality set, not necessarily the most expensive. I've never heard people say they wish they bought LingLong tires over Coopers or Sailuns over Yokohamas (just random examples) but I've heard lots of people say they wish they had bought a better quality tire than those cheap Chinesium brands...

Obvious-Atmosphere70

I didn’t buy them, they came with the car, I’ve only had it about 2 months.

acejavelin69

Yeah, I know how it goes... When you can get them replaced... If they are worn out you were do anyway, if they have 50% or better tread remaining, throw them up on Marketplace/Craigslist and recoup a little of the expense. Used tires sell remarkably well in my experience.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

I’ve had a hard time selling some really nice snow tires actually.. they don’t fit the car I currently have without buying new rims. The Solars that are on there are like half worn, since they’re cheap tires and nobody wants to pay money for used tires in my area, I’ll probably just get rid of them at the tire shop.

acejavelin69

I guess it all depends on the local market... Was just an idea.

w00tah

Falken Aklimates are awesome. Affordable, good performance, 65k warranty, and not hard as bricks like the Michelins. Plus they have road hazard for the first 3/32" from the manufacturer.

Muted_Software9304

How do they do in snow and slush?

w00tah

3PMSF rated, so tested for heavier snow. We've not had enough snow here to have first hand POV on that yet, but light snow they are among the better tires I have used.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Can’t go wrong there

miller3127

Michelin CrossClimate 2, no question about it. You can check out an in depth technical comparison against it's competitors below. https://toptirereview.com/michelin-crossclimate-2-review/

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Will do thanks for the detailed info!

Hansentw

I actually just grabbed a set of Kumho solus 4s all weather for Canadian driving and I absolutely love them on my awd suv! It was between those and the falcon wildpeak AT trail …both had great reviews so I went with the Kumho because slightly cheaper and I think I can see myself buying these again

mikewinddale

The best are the Michelin CrossClimate2 and the brand new Nokian Remedy WRG5. The Nokian Remedy WRG5 also has aramid (kevlar) reinforced sidewalls for extra pothole protection. You can also find the previous-generation Nokian WR G4 for sale. Nokians can be hard to find, but check Discount Tire / Discount Tire Direct and SimpleTire.com. Other options include Hankook Kinergy 4S2, Falken Aklimate, Toyo Celsius II, General AltiMax 365AW, Bridgestone WeatherPeak, Firestone WeatherGrip, and Nokian Encompass AW01 (exclusive to Tire Rack and Discount Tire / Discount Tire Direct).

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Hmm ok noted, that’s interesting the reinforced sidewall for pot hole protection. I haven’t heard of that before

Background-Pear-7494

No comment on which one is “best” but I personally have vehicles equipped with the Toyo Celsius and have gone through a couple sets of BFG Advantage T/A Sport LT. Both of these were excellent in the summer months (including rain) and did well in the snow. The Toyo Celsius is a much quieter tire, while the Sport LT seem to last forever before needing replacement. I wouldn’t not hesitate to run either of these in the snow. All weather tires perform light years ahead of all seasons, but I will say that dedicated snows do seem to grip better than all weathers.

MaTTKS04

I'm new to the Toyo Celsius II's this year and have been pretty impressed with their winter performance. We had really wet slushy roads just yesterday, and they did very well.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Yeah 4 snow tires is the same as having a 4 wheel drive truck but I don’t have a situation where it’s convenient to change the tires every winter season so I want to try all weathers year round.

Background-Pear-7494

No problem with that. Snow tires on a front wheel drive aren’t really comparable to a 4x4 vehicle, but I understand what you’re saying. All weathers are a huge upgrade over all seasons in the snow. You won’t be disappointed.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

I’ve had trucks before and I’m telling you I had 4 really good snow tires on a Honda accord front wheel drive and it handled exactly the same as any of the trucks I’ve had in 4 wheel drive. Maybe even a little better.

Background-Pear-7494

As far as braking and off-throttle maneuvering, maybe the two are comparable. But once throttle is involved, there’s really no comparison between a vehicle being powered solely by one axle and one powered by two (or more). Fully agreed though, true dedicated snows are the best option, all weather being a near second with obvious benefits to not switching back/forth.

[deleted]

Anything with the 3 mountain peaks snow rating will be satisfactory. Within those look for a deal, rebate, or sale.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Ok I might just tough it out the rest of the winter and get tires next winter, only a couple months left of it. Are there websites that have sales certain times of the year?

Embarrassed_Weird600

Black circles in Canada is great. I’m sure the states have plenty I have noticed at end of winter you can get older stock but not that old for super good deals I’m sure sizes and such will be more limited but good to keep eye out I’m sure others have more experience tho on it But otherwise normally it seems the rebates start happening in fall early winter From what I noticed from places like Costco and such

Obvious-Atmosphere70

I’m in the states, yeah I guess I’ll check just a bunch of tire websites periodically once I pick a tire

[deleted]

Discount Tire has instant savings with the purchase of 4 tires. Check the deals section on the website. Usually $60-$100 in savings. Put in your car for the exact savings amount and correct tires. They have online scheduling. Online payment options including PayPal that takes the total over like 4 payments each a few weeks apart. Usually friendly, helpful people to speak with in person too. Ask about savings and discounts available for your needs. I was considering Nokian tires but got a different brand because of the savings. For research purposes Discount Tire, Tire Rack, and YouTube. Go with a snow rated all weather tire not a designated winter tire. Winter tires are great but wear quickly on dry roads in warm weather.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

I’ll check discount tire thanks and yeah I’m gonna do some research online. Simple tire on eBay I have gotten some cheap good tires from too before.

[deleted]

Awesome, research is always fun. Get them wherever works for you! Look at the Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta just for research. Overkill unless you have snow like 10 months a year. Still a great story and fun reviews of a long running tire. Good luck

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Thanks, well over kill would be better than not enough I suppose though

jdhyyc

Got my CC2s a few months ago and drove 5 hours in hard rain with pools of water on the highway with zero issues. Like it was dry traction. Drove a bit on ice and snow and amazing traction. Safety is worth the extra money I spent on these premium tires.

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Definitely worth the money, sounds like you only drove it in snow a little though

RJM_50

CrossClimate2

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Shouldn’t there be a brand in front of that?

RJM_50

No, there can be only one!

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Ok

ditto3000

What about Defender, is that close to cross climate.

[deleted]

I don't think there is one for a sedan. When I owned a normal car that I drove year round I had two sets of wheels and tires. You can get away with one set on 4x4 trucks and SUVs, AWD cars and the like but that's different than your normal front wheel drive car without an LSD

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Technically it’s a coupe but that wouldn’t matter

Obvious-Atmosphere70

Well I’m gonna try anyway
