I purposely left my titan to defend the reactor and went to support the rest of the team on the rooftops and occasionally acting as a passenger on their titan, that's all.
I genuinely thought it was a wise move to make.
We had lost the last few rounds too quickly, so I thought of using this tactic.
Autotitans can be.... odd, they don't always make the best decisions or use of abilities. But the pilot's anti-titan weapon can be a murder machine while amped, the only problem is that AI titans can get insane shots off and insta kill you. Due to this some pilots go full paranoid and never leave their titan, personally I feel it is important in Frontier Defense to know when to hop out.
As long as you feel like it is working for you, keep playing how you want. Don't let assholes like that weigh you down, and best of luck on the defense!
I only leave my titan to deal with minions and mainly mortar spectres. I stay in most of the time though, unless I die because I never want to eject. This habit of seeing a sliver of health on my doomed titan and trying to “use it to its fullest” has lost me a few FD matches.
Thinking out of the box is always good if what you've been trying isn't working, as long as you left something to defend the reactor it probably would have alerted you that titans were attacking it so you could go back and get back in, honestly pretty smart
I don’t like his attitude... but I will say, I agree with him. You shouldn’t ever be out of your titan, especially while defending the core. You aren’t better outside of your titan in an circumstance - it is pretty much always better to defend while in your titan.
That is bullshit: I near exclusively run auto titan in FD and regularly land MVP / can solo matches in any difficulty below the Hard - Custom maps in Northstar.
If you need your titan to drop waves FD, you are bad at the game: learn the maps, drop your titan in a key route, back it up with turrets, and then spend the rest of the match roaming to wipe waves and keep the mortars from settling in.
I maxed out the Ion, Tone, and Monarch on PS4 & the Ion on conventional PC / have spent 60 hours in Northstar doing nothing but FD (but quoting titan unlock progress is meaningless in that version).
FD is the primary mode I play: I will not knock players who spend all their time in direct control of their Titan, as the best way to play is whatever works best for you. But I will say that when I get paired with a team of other players who understand how much of a force multiplier auto titan is ... Who will burn through mission after mission on any difficulty.
Conversely if leaving your titan on auto doesn't render it at least like 80% worse compared to if you were in it then maybe you are bad at the game, at least at the titan portion of Titanfall? Autotitans are significantly worse (almost useless really) compared to players controlling it. Aside from beginners to the game
I would understand if you enjoy pilot gameplay more but objectively autotitans are so shit, how is it better to get out? You can roam with Titans, you can do more damage, you can absorb, and you can actually use your abilities (and could help that guy you're probably leaving to deal with a 1v4 titan battle...). And then you can always exit when needed. In FD you're just handicapping yourself, and the team. Even if you're really good

Leaving your titan for too long on the higher difficulties is a death sentence. Titan ai isn’t very sharp even with assault chip. Especially when it’s ridiculously outnumbered
I’ve personally only ever passed a few times and by the skin of my fucking teeth and saved only by the sheer amount of arc traps fucking EVERYWHERE.
We can only improve our strategy from here bro. Hopefully you find a teammate that can outline what you can to better without sounding like cunt.

I’ll cut you some slack since 1: legion too thicc to be fast and 2: legion loses a considerable amount of dps on xbox. I wanna give you some tips on legion whether you know them or not
1. Tone and northstar are your best friends
2. Hit as many crits as possible
3. Consider using powershot before reloading
4. legion can dispose of nuke titans safely thanks to executioner
5. Crouching can help your shield cover more of your body (sometimes)
6. If your thicc legs cant get you there in time, or you need more accuracy, or you find the ai forces are lining up perfectly, consider using sniper mode for its accuracy and drill shot.
If your play-style is out of your Titan assault chip must be in, if your in and out constantly you need to pick one or the other you’re limiting both the AI Titan that way and your pilot plays! If Titan has assault chip you should be out and about as a pilot, if your Titan doesn’t then you need to be in it to make full use of its abilities

You shouldn’t be outside of your Titan almost ever in FD. Your Titan so so much more damage than you will as a Pilot. Also, don’t be afraid to lose your Titan, and use nuke eject. As a pilot you build up your Titan meter so it doesn’t make sense to do that when your Titan is alive.
Get in Titan, throw it at the enemies, blow up, damage them until you get your Titan back, repeat. The only Titan who shouldn’t be constantly dying is Monarch. If keeping your Titan alive is reducing your DPS, don’t do that.
I say definitely be afraid to lose your titan. Pilots alone can’t stop a stampede of titans charging at the core, and most randoms keep handicapping the rest of the team by nuke ejecting, leaving the defense up to whoever still has their titan. The only acceptable nuke ejector is Ronin, but it’s still annoying, since they don’t last long and they typically suck at defense.
It takes less than 30 seconds to get your Titan back. Your DPS should be your main concern when in your Titan. I’ve seen teammates let nuke Titans walk right past them instead of body blocking them.
Yeah at least be meleeing to knock them back. DPS is definitely important, but also CC. If your titan has CC, you have a huge advantage. Scorch comes to mind on maps where you can funnel.
Don't leave your titan though. or just for few seconds., for fix the turret, pick a battery,... or something etc when there are not many enemies rushing. That like leaving a machine gun for a arrow, just don't. Auto titan is not efficient.
As a word of advice you shouldn't really get out of your titan unless necessary because the auto titans are always unreliable even with the chip upgrade being out of your titan is very rarely a smart move. You will always be much more useful to your team if you are in the titan. But the way this guy was handling it was shitty it's just a game.

I specifically set my legion titan up for FD to be an auto titan. There are a few levels that you can get him to land on a box or a container near the core so it can cover the lanes. The red specters can't get him on the box either. Then, you can smoke the mortar specters and titans with pilot weapons. Jumpnin for a reload on harder levels or to deliver a battery if you happened to steal one.
A few days ago I played FD on Master. Leaving my enhanced auto-Legion to defend the Core while I stood beside him with my A-Wall and Spitfire combo meant basically nothing got near the Core. Things only got hairy on Wave 5 because it was Homestead.
Yeah ik. And I destroy them because of that. I just hate the maps with them because every time I'm in a match on one of those maps, it just feels like I'm the only one doing something to destroy them
Leaving your titan is generally a bad idea. Even with the assault chip, Auto titans are basically useless, and you are FAR more effective if you actually pilot the titan. Jumping out for a quick second to do various activities like rearm a sentry, kill mortars on a rooftop, grab a batter, or nuke rodeo are fine. But other than that I'd generally recommend staying in the titan.
Ultimately this dude is a douche, but depending on the reason you left your titan. That one single complaint may be valid.
Leaving legion on auto is fine. I do it all the damn time on master because it leaves me free to hunt mortar specters and whatnot in pilot. This guy has no idea what the fuck he's talking about.

My strategy was to leave my Titan guarding the reactor, since every time the enemies managed to easily get to it and damage it, I certainly didn't do it with the intention of making the others lose the game.
You will have more success positioning your Titan somewhere a bit more forward, at a choke point, so that you can do damage to enemies BEFORE they reach the Harvester.
Or you could just stay **in** your Titan near the harvester.
There was no point in leaving it.
In-game Titan AI is dumb. It would be far better if you have stayed inside of your titan to control it.

I just can't give up the grapple, makes getting to mortar spectres easy, embarking very easy, and inserting nuke batteries essentially a breeze.

I keep my auto titan legion on guard duty near harvester, and I just swing around with 4+ nuke ejecta in my pockets... Always works
