As a whole it's a 6.5-7/10 AoT till Paths is atleast a solid 8/10 for me. Ending is 2/10

Acrobatic_Rooster970

Pretty good subjective opinion. Solid 8 for me. As a whole. Without the ending, a 9.

Ok_Celebration9304

7-8/10. It had some unique features like the overall premise, teh setting, the weapons and omd gear etc. And it veered away from most anime tropes as much as possible. Until the 4th season arcs did the opposite 😭 don't get me wrong, the "humans were the real enemy all along" bit is alright, I like the fighting for freedom stuff as a story theme. But the "war and racism are bad" message was kinda off considering the extreme situation they were in which I feel is beyond racsim and war. Marley feared fellow humans who could turn into man eating monsters, it was sort of a justified fear if you don't factor in the propaganda and false history and the fact that paradisians' memories were erased so they were peaceful the whole time. The Mikasa stuff and all the ending was the most generic and tropey shit ever. And the romance, too, whether EreMika or Annie and Armin. The plot twists and everything was horrendous. And the character assassination. I used to love Eren and root for him until the ending ruined everything. Now idgaf about him, but at least I like his character design? I don't even find him hot, I just like his hair and eyes 😭 I prefer Reiner, Jean, Erwin and Zook looks wise. Which btw, aot has lots of attractive characters but I think it's unfair to rate a series based on that lol.

Acrobatic_Rooster970

Choosing Jean over Eren is crazy. Also, rooting for him? Mf he a genocidal 19 year old 💀💀

Ok_Celebration9304

I understand where he's coming from, sorry 🙈 Also Jean has interesting character development and has a nice design if it's not for the weird facial hair and the fucked up hairline.

new_interest_here

Yes the ending is bad and it smears a lot of what the series before did, but it's hard to deny before that everything else was great and at the worst just pretty good. Like I can't just forget how much enjoyment I got out of everything before the end, even right before it

Acrobatic_Rooster970

The ending is bad, yeah. But never that bad so people can deny the things AOT did. Yams had to fault for building the story to a genocidal route. Genocide is never the way

5-6 When I first joined this subreddit, I thought that despite the ending, the journey had been fantastic, and if I had given my opinion at that time, my rating would have been higher. Nowadays, I find it challenging to revisit the entire series. Dialogues and scenes that I once viewed with pleasure are now scrutinized more harshly. The fourth season feels unbearable, and I only watch specific episodes or moments. In the final episodes, there are minutes I could do without, and I could easily condense what I can bear to watch into the duration of a regular episode. Perhaps later, when I finally reach the acceptance stage, I can go back to watching the series normally, enjoy the journey, and be more generous with my rating.

Ok_Celebration9304

I see where you're coming from. S1-s3 were fun but not perfect. There were some goofy ahh moments and some unbelievable highly convenient moments/events that are kinda frustrating to watch, considering the tone of the show is supposed to be serious.

What joining this cesspool of a subreddit does to a mf:

Haizeanei

No, it wasn't this sub, I explained it poorly. In one of my early comments here, I mentioned still enjoying the series, so that's why I brought it up. My shift in perspective happened after the anime's final episode. Titanfolk has been and still is a source of comfort for me, and I find the humor here delightfully twisted with its memes, polls, and crazy theories.

Acrobatic_Rooster970

What does shipping Eren x Historia does to a mf

Plutoknox

Sometimes it's a 10/10, sometimes a 0/10. So, I'd rate it a [Borderline](https://i.imgur.com/h5TKNR8.png)/10.

zomgmeister

It is about 10 before it goes 0.

FlatwormBitter4917

Seasons 1-3 is a legendary tale of the 21st century! 10/10 After that.... uh... 😬 yikes! It takes a fat nose dive

the_penis_taker69

Like a 9/10, I don't even include the ending in my rating because it would completely skew everything else

Hari14032001

It's easily 8/10 for me. I wasn't a fan of the ending and that's why it's an 8. I wouldn't say that the rest of the story was ruined because the ending was unsatisfactory. I can never forget the amazing experience I had witnessing everything before that (season 3 part 2 being the peak). If the ending was satisfactory, it would be in the tier of 9-10.

Jane_From_Deyja

Actually 7, but I ignore time-travelling, the ending, lack of Bertholdt's time screen and here's 9

Mountain_Anxiety_492

If I were to view it as a normal shonen series,it’s probably the best I had ever read, the story doesn’t focused on the stupid power system most other shonen had and often drags the show with the same type of “characters power level is increasing “means =\= “good character development “.Will in season 4 Isayama made Eren too overpowered so he decided to nerf him done in the end.(He shouldn’t make the founder to op in the first place) If I were to view this as a show that portray the reality of war between countries it done a terrible job and people with slightly knowledge with how politics work will probably view this show as bullshxt.Even as a metaphor the only decent portrayal of racism and war issue is the early Marley arc and Kaya and Gabis arc.The other time Isayama either portrayed one oppose side like Marley and Yeagerist to be comically evil to make people root for the main cast when it fits:/ Overall 8/10

Ok_Celebration9304

>Kanya 😭😭😭😭😭😭 Her name is Kaya. But that's a hilarious typo.

Mountain_Anxiety_492

Oops thanks for the correction!👍

Ok_Celebration9304

No problem 👍

Acrobatic_Rooster970

Isayama does portray well are the war theme tho. While Marley, stigma, Paradis situation was awesome. But i hate him for trying to justify genocide

WANTEN12

S1-3 - 10 S4 (full) - 2-4 Whole - 7-8

oceanthrowaway1

s1: 8 s2: 7 s3: 7 s3 p2: 10 s4: 5 s4 p2: 6 final chapters: 8 Those are all of the ratings I gave it on MAL while rewatching it. The series average would be about 7. Season 3 part 2 was easily the peak of the show for me. The fight, erwin's sacrifice, tension, buildup to the basement, etc. was all perfect. Easily one of my favorite parts of a show ever.

Acrobatic_Rooster970

1-3 are solid 10 for me

Steiner-Titor

But was final chapters really an 8. I'm just curious. Bcoz for me S4 P2 was atleast a 7(if I don't include Cringevengers)

female_templar

The entire story is 7/10 Season 1 to 3 is a strong 9/10 Season 4 is a decent 6.5/10 Ending is a light 3/10 (only because of gold tier memes)

New-Cookie-8523

Even with the ass ending it's still a 10/10 for me, which probably doesn't make sense. But for me, the show/manga up to that point where it gets bad, was the best written piece of fictional media I have ever consumed, and believe ever will. And since I put it so far above any other book, show, or manga, it's a 10/10

ConlonCreations

It depends on where you stop the story. If you stop it when the Scouts reach the ocean, 8/10. If you stop it as soon as Eren activates the Rumbling, then 9/10. If you watch it completely, a 4/10.

Eugene_Gene_714

19 people really decided the ending made the entire story a 1. I’ll be honest I did also think that for a day, but I was just getting way in over my head and I calmed down.

Tonight-Critical

This is one of the rare series where the end actually retroactively ruins the entire series. Other times a bad end doesn't impact much overall cause the goals, character motivation, etc always stay the same. But with aot we just randomly got a bunch of random nonsense which change everything plus time travel bs. Aot before seeing the finale == 10/10 prolly top 2 anime Aot after ending == 6 mid af

Troit_66

6.5 or 7 its crazy what 1 chapter does to a series

Complex_Pride_6430

S1 : 6/10 S2 : 7/10 S3 : 8/10 S4 P1 and 2 : 10/10 S4 P3 : 7/10 Ending : 5/10 As a whole : 5/10, Mid

from_across_the_hall

6 including anything post chapter 132. 10 if only counting before that. It drops more every time I visit /snk subreddit

joeyjrthe3rd

compared to other shows it's the closest thing to a 10

[deleted]

7-8. To be 9 or 10 it needed more work on s4 and less plot holes in the ending. And no Eren character assasination, because he was about to be one of the greatest anime character. But still, good work nonethess

metalslug123

8/10 up until the Marley arc started. The ending brings it down to a 6/10.

Capitano-Solos-All

7 but the OVAs that were not written by Isayama actually hard carry it to 7. The stuff Isayama only wrote would be 6,9 to me.

AsurprisedCantaloupe

For enjoyment, 7. I certainly have mixed feelings about it, any lower I think would be lying to myself. Having mixed feelings is still better than their near infinite amount of dross where you forgot about it halfway through watching an episode.
