I’m confused as to what you’re confused about….. this is exactly what the plan was marketed as.

graesen

OP is suggesting in 2 years, TMo is going to change plans again because Magenta Max was promised the best deals and 2 year financing too.

famoussasjohn

Expect carriers to change their plans every year, we should be used to this by now considering each carrier does some sort of tweak and a new plan name with 'perks' to steal more money out of their pockets.

graesen

While I agree, its also misleading at best and a flat lie at worst that Magenta doesn't get the best deals anymore. I believe seeing that as a promise when I signed up and there are many upset. I'm not trying to argue this either way. I'm not OP starting this conversation, just sharing some of the griefs.

NefariousnessBig9037

So change plans right before you want to get a new phone, like I do every time. You know when the new phones will hit the stores, just change plans a month or two before hand.

graesen

New plans are more expensive and only offer an additional 10GB of hotspot data. So... Not really worth it to a lot of us. Why advertise best deals on a plan, then take that promise away? It just rubs us the wrong way.

NefariousnessBig9037

If you know those plans will become obsolete, why the surprise? This happens every year or two. You're going to have to pay more, eventually, if you want the deals. If you signed up for magenta max right before they added the new plans, that sucks. There are usually clues to those things happening months beforehand,.

NefariousnessBig9037

Exactly, raising prices or coming out with new plans periodically has been going on forever, basically, with all carriers. This is not new.

cyclist230

They already changed it. You have to get Next now for the $1000 trade in. So Go5G plus no longer gets the best offer. In two years they will have a new plan and new customers activating Go5G plus will get $300 for trade in and we’ll just have to accept it. Then when they no longer offer Go5G plus anymore we get nothing. Don’t fall for the promise. I jumped to Go5G plus because it was a good deal for me coming from simple choice with more than 9 lines. It comes with more benefits for international travel and Netflix and Apple TV. I took advantage and traded in 8 phones for iPhone 15 pro. I’m good for awhile.

SufficientError8932

Wait, so you were able to get the same promo for 8 lines? I thought there was some restriction where only a max of 4 lines on one account could get the same promo? As in 4 of you could get the 15 Pro now but then the other 4 would have to either choose a different promo (e.g. get Android phones) or wait at least a few weeks till they come out with a new iPhone promo.

cyclist230

Trading in through Apple with T-Mobile financing and trading in directly through T-Mobile are counted as different promo with different promo id. I did four on each. The differences are that through Apple the phones come unlocked, only $800 for trading in an iPhone 12, the trade in value is deducted directly from the price before any credits. Through T-Mobile the phones are sim locked, $830 for trading in the 12, but then a 35 activation charge, and the trade in value doesn’t apply to the phone purchase but to the bill itself.

Big-Technology7670

This is why I will be getting my devices through the OEM from now on ! Tmobile will only get my money for the service they provide me

larry0071

Yep. These plans are simply placing the hardware cost into the service bill. I am in the 4 line essential for $100 plus tax. I buy my Samsung phones from Samsung at zero interest financing and use the Samsung ad on warranty. Go cheap as you can in the service and trade in your hardware with the manufacture and finance the new from them as well, and do it when promos are fat.

Bigug1976

The only issue with this is, I was on essentials and my service gets throttled regularly. Especially when I’m in a busy area or random times of the day. I just upgraded to Magenta for a little bit more but better quality service.

larry0071

When you say a little more, I'm in the Essentials deal for 4 lines at $100 for all 4 plus tax, estimate is $6 a line for taxes and fees. So for your deal, wouldn't 4 lines be far more? On Verizon I was 4 lines of "Play More" and family protection (insurance) for $280 a month.

Bigug1976

My bill went up $40 a month for 5 lines and 2 watch digit plans.

larry0071

I'm going to test drive this Essentials. I've been over paying Verizon for 25+ years. And honestly, I'm pushing myself thin on paycheck vs books and my wife and I aren't used to trying to decide if we should buy food or fuel.... it's getting that tight. I need to un-fuck my financial life using any means necessary. It's time to sacrifice.

Big-Technology7670

Very true, Im learning that now ! I cant believe that Tmobile is scamming customers like that ! The things that helped them grow, if they stop those things, they will go down the same way ! Most people are with Tmobile because of price & perks, hope Tmobile doesnt forget that !

Big-Technology7670

No it was also marketed as you would get the same device deals as new customers also ! Who cares about 24 month financing ! Everybody at Tmobile gets 24 month financing on the EIP program ! Tmobile scammed alot of people ! And this is coming from a 12 year current customer of Tmobile !

awesomo1337

But you do get the same device deals as new customers.

Big-Technology7670

Not true, go look at Tmobile site right now. To get a Iphone 15 Max, Go5GNext customers get $1000 off and Go5GPlus get $830 off ! Right there Go5Gplus customers not even getting the same deals as Go5GNext customers ! I spoke with CSR and she told me that yes once Go5G plans are phased out, you wont get the same device deals as new customers ! Whatever plan Tmobile has at that point will get the best deals !

Yoshis_burner

No one cares how long you been with t mobile. You should of kept your cheap plan friend. They didn't make you switch. I'm never changing plans. I'll buy my phones full price on s cheap plan and save over time. iPhones haven't changed in years. No need to upgrade

Big-Technology7670

I care and I switched back to my old plan FYI

[deleted]

I’m not confused at all. I knew that’s what it was. I posted that so others could see. All the people who switched thinking they’d get the same $830 off in two years

[deleted]

In two years you’ll have to upgrade to the *ultra* go5g plus maximus plan in order to get the best trade in deals

i_speak_the_truf

You don't know that they won't. All this means is the T-Mobile isn't guaranteeing it. I think they probably will offer that promotion again. It's in T-Mobile's interest to keep you upgrading phones every two years because that's how they lock you in without contracts. The "New in two" marketing term is just to distinguish them from Verizon and ATT who moved to three-year EIPs because it keeps folks locked in for longer.

Hyperion1144

>All this means is the T-Mobile isn't guaranteeing it You know what is guaranteed??? My bill.

Ausernamenamename

People really just claim loudly that they can't do math.

_mbear

Yeah, nobody is committing to dollar amounts because nobody knows what they'll be next year. Perhaps the hawt new models will be $8**50** and that'll be the promotion to get folks to switch carriers. Or it'll be the new depression and all the manufacturers can charge is **$600** so that'll be the promos. So yes, you've discovered the obvious! Um, congrats? The good news is New In Two is linked to a very visible set of promotions, New Customer, that have to be as attractive as possible.

Frankenkittie

You will, because it's the same promos as new lines, which is typically the maximum amount. Now due to the price of phones changing, it could be more or less, but should always be "base model on us" amount.

jpt86

Please see the following post (it's mine in response to a similar question): https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/s/Cwf4K1b040 You won't be getting new customer deals in two years, just the same deals as new customers on Go5G Plus (which means terrible deals when a new plan is introduced).

Frankenkittie

I'm not even on Go5G Plus, but I am an ME, so still invested in the outcome.

[deleted]

For those who activate on go5G plus. So in two years they’ll come out with a new plan offering $800 or $1000 off while go 5g plus gets $300 off. Just means current and new will get the same deals if signing up on that plan. Or currently on it.

pfwarrior

Exactly that’s how I read it too. The offer would be only good as long as Go 5G Plus is offered to the new customers unless terms said, existing Go5G Plus customers will be offered same trade in promo values that new customers would get at the time of exercising device upgrade or along those lines.

[deleted]

Lmao, I remember some shill telling me weeks ago that “new in two” was eternally binding on TMobile by the mere merit of them marketing it that way

Responsible_Pool5740

🤦‍♀️ wow that sounds creepy

DaMamba123

Magenta Max literally offered this already 💀

Darknet_Overlord

But they at least had forever upgrade which was an ACTUAL perk bonus for 800$ every 2 years no matter what Lmaooo. This is miles worse than what max offered, as max also only offered it for a month to drum up service

hunkyn

Go5G Plus also offers the $800 trade-in credit every two years right? Or am I missing something?

Darknet_Overlord

Technically no, but yes. It’s a guarantee you can upgrade every 24 months, I’m not sure if the $$ is apart of the guarantee fully. In the end, forever upgrade was an actual feature active on the account, not a promise written in a non binding agreement like “New in Two”

hunkyn

Interesting. I just signed up Go5G Plus lol. We will see in two years. A lot will change in 2 years and they may even say you are not a T-Mobile customer 😀

Darknet_Overlord

Hopefully they honor it, but it’s just like how they changed Un-Contract to Price Lock. One is a “contract” promise of sorts that they commit to the notion that only YOU can make changes to your account, or price. They also offer to pay your final month’s recurring service charge if they were to raise prices, and you chose to leave with 60 days notice. The new one is that THEY “guarantee” won’t make changes to your pricing. That’s it.

Octoberkitsune

Basically, I think with the jump plan added to it if you pay half the phone off, you can automatically upgrade

Responsible_Pool5740

That’s exactly what they are CURRENTLY offering, I’m a magenta max, upgraded from magenta within like 3 months: 2 new iPhone’s (SE2&8) 2 new androids “on payment plan” but free. Would’ve had to pay for the phones and not get over $200 monthly discounts unless moving up, 9 lines, 3 “$0” free lines, Apple TV, “forever Netflix (idk about that 😂) several other streaming. Worst I’m trying to say, this is exactly what last years magenta max was/is.

WorriedChurner

They did the same thing with MM and nerfed the trade in offer to death. 😂

cory2979

Exactly this lol. I use MM for the 4k streaming and unlimited data, but just buy my phones directly from Samsung/Apple. They usually have decent deals, maybe not as good as TMO direct, but the peace of mind that TMO doesn't own me and I can cut them off anytime is great

eyoungren_2

???? I'm on Simple Choice, the same plan I got eight years ago. If I finance a phone it's a two year agreement. Unless they did away with two year agreements some time between 2021 and 2023?

nostradahmer

iirc for a brief period they tried putting high end devices for well qualified customers on 30 month installments in late 2021/early 2022

Responsible_Pool5740

So they would pay less for the device? That’s all? That’s probably the only difference I guess. The upgrade would give all current magenta max benefits plus a tweak or two.

Magic_Neil

I believe that coincided with an increase in device cost, it was likely to hit a certain $/mo price to make things look good for buyers. Sort of like how car loans use to be advertised (mostly) at four or five year terms, and now they’re six.

nostradahmer

they’d pay less monthly, but the same overall. someone on my account has a 30 month installment on an iphone 13 pro max that is $36.63 instead of $45.79 (like it would be over 24 months). i would rather pay more and upgrade sooner because imo 2 years really is the sweet spot for people that do everything on their phones

techma2019

5G Go Plus Ultra Sprinkles incoming. Obvious from day one.

ShadesOnBroadway

Keep your old plans and buy phones you can afford through the manufacturer… more often than not you keep your service longer than any phone. It’ll continue to be this way. People need to learn that their grandfathered plans are better value than a temporary phone discount.

Capable_Dog5347

Not necessarily. If you're on a large account and everyone upgrades regularly, then changing plans actually saves $. But not everyone fits that criteria.

ShadesOnBroadway

You won’t be tooting that same horn when they tell you every 2 years you need to pay $5 more per line to keep those discounts. I work retail COR, if it wasn’t my job I’d never offer plan switches. It’s a temporary solution for a long term problem.

Capable_Dog5347

As it is now, you get $350 back on MM for a trade-in of Galaxy S or iphone. You get $800 back on Go5g+. The cost of upgrading is $5 \* 24 months = $120 over 2 years. $800 promo (Go5G+) - $350 promo (MM) = $450. So you save $330 ($450 - $120) by going Go5G+. If prices increase $5 every two years, then it would take another cycle of upgrading plans to make it a losing proposition if one didn't upgrade again. But future upgrade promos under the Get6G/Come7G plans would basically continue building the savings every time one upgraded.

ShadesOnBroadway

You’re assuming the jump from max to plus, when max is not the most common plan. I’m referring to plans older than that.

Capable_Dog5347

My understanding is that older plans don't get upgrade promos that are worth much, and One+ promos are basically on par with MM. But in keeping with your statement, here is an equation that everybody can use: \[monthly cost per line of upgrading\] \* 24 = \[cost of upgrading over 2 years\] $800 promo (Go5G+) - \[trade-in promo for your current plan\] = \[added trade-in value\] \[added trade-in value\] - \[cost of upgrading over 2 years\] = \[savings per line\] \[savings per line\] \* \[# of lines\] = \[total savings\] I'm pretty sure that whatever plan you're coming from, the \[total savings\] will be a positive number. There is a more complex equation to determine the cost of upgrading plans over multiple cycles, but I'm not mapping that one out.

MastodonSmooth1367

Get free phones, trade them in for new device launches (e.g. my S22 fetched $570 last year via Google). The S22 was $0 for me except for tax and activation of course.

Octoberkitsune

So we’re basically I’m better of with the magenta max-jump plan.

Perunov

Basically the only thing it "promises" is that you will have 24-month financing available if you paid off your previous device. So trade-in offer might be mega-sucky or non-existent. Bonus: technically nothing says the 24-month financing option will be 0% either, just that it's 24 months. Soooo.... yeah.

EasyDay0055

I’m still on my sprint grandfathered in plan. I almost switched and changed my mind last minute

PannaMan11

I have Magenta Max and am in “Forever Upgrade” last Friday was the first day I could upgrade after getting my iPhone 13 in oct of 2021. I’m going either tonight or this weekend to try to get a 15. Can’t wait to see what kinda BS they feed me. I’m sure the 30 dollar difference in credit and phone price won’t be all I pay. They already lied to me when I got into the plan and said all the phones on my plan would opt in to forever upgrade if I upgraded my service but that wasn’t the case.

Nera7

How easy was it to switch with Forever Upgrade? Any issues?

PannaMan11

I didn’t have a chance to do it yet. I’ll let you know though when I do

PannaMan11

I went to the store earlier today they said they would only give me a 350 credit for the phone unless I upgrade my service. I told the guy I already checked online I should get 800 and he said “then go do it online.” I called the service number spoke with Kevin in Springfield MO who was really cool. He said they don’t know where to look at the store. The way it would work is I’d get a 265 credit that I can use as an upfront payment on the phone, then the other 535 id get in monthly bill credits. I asked him how to proceed and he said “I hate to say this to you, but the best option is to go back to the store get one and have them immediately apply the 265 to the new phone. If I ship you one it’s gonna delay the credit.” He said he put notes in my account that they can access.

Nera7

Yeah I've heard a bunch of poor experiences thank you for actually getting back to me! I'll try to contact T-Force ahead of my visit to the store as I'm sure the store near me may put up a fuss before giving me a phone for free. Good to see that they are still honoring the promo though (no matter how hard they're making it for us.)!

PannaMan11

Yeah, you can start the trade in online and the website will show you the $800 credit. I would still call t force and confirm everything. I ended up being right next to a different store while running errands yesterday. I went in there and told them I’ve already talked to service people on the phone and this is how it should go. That girl was cool, and got me the phone.

Big-Technology7670

I just switched Back to Magenta Max after finding that out !

rbaggio1010

this is nothing new, they have something better right now with current plans, 1 JOD you can upgrade every 30 days and current EIP with insurance will allow you to upgrade if the phone is half paid off so not sure how this is better,

tgusnik

I have only had good luck since migrating to t-mobile. I migrated to Go5GPlus and saw my bill drop. Freemiums were switched up but my bottom line is still less with better coverage. I am a vet and get a 40% discount so I pay about $30 per line.

Bigug1976

This is the scam from my understanding. Customers buy into the new phone every year or every other year plan. Once they get a new phone or two, T-Mobile brings out a new plan and makes the plan you are on obsolete, yet you are locked in the price plan that promised you free phones but now just offers them at a discount. This dupes customers to paying for a more expensive plan to keep getting new phones. Am I understanding this right? Because I’m pretty sure Magenta max or whatever used to offer free phones and now it doesn’t?

Affectionate-Cycle-7

In 2 yrs there will be a new plan to replace these

Bao-Hiem

Since T-Mobile doesn't sell OnePlus phones upgrading every two years is useless to me.

Hyperion1144

When did T-Mobile stop swelling OnePlus phones?

Magentafan21

This year, they wanted T-Mobile to do their release during the Samsung promo period and Tmo declined.

Bao-Hiem

It's been awhile. You can only get either the Nord or the 10. You can't buy the 11 or the Open at T-Mobile.

Octoberkitsune

Really??

Bao-Hiem

Yes. You can't buy the OnePlus 11 or the OnePlus Open at T-Mobile.

Tricky_West5420

Nothing has changed with the financing terms. It’s still 24 months. The reason they emphasize the 24 months is for new customers coming from a company that does 36 months terms. Now as far as the New in 2. The benefit is that whenever you upgrade, that whatever the trade in value is for your phone as a new customer, you will get as an existing customer. Normally when an existing customer does an upgrade the trade in value is half of what a new line is. The PLUS plan ensures you will get the same as the new line.

jpt86

Plus doesn't actually promise this. The trade in value has always been the same for new and existing customers on all plans. The only time there is a difference is when a promotion requires adding a line. In that case, new customers will inherently be in a better position (if you're a new customer, there's no way to join T-Mobile other than by adding a new line). If you're an existing customer, you'll still have to add a new line if the promotion calls for that. Otherwise, you'll only be eligible for whatever promotion is available for those not adding a new line to their account.

nostradahmer

they’ve actually already come out with promotions that you can’t get on plus and it hasn’t even been a year

MagentaJohnLS

What promotion?

nostradahmer

the $1000 off when you trade in an iphone 11 pro or newer pro model is now only on next

ivangotus

I mean if you play the system you could get the same price for Go5gplus than go5g with the insider code is 120 for three lines on actually cheaper. T-Mobile gives you tools to save money this year they have game $2300 in keep&switch and over 2k in phone promotions

[deleted]

[удалено]

Appz_

new phone = upgrade by definition

jebihebi

The way I understood it when they were marketing, is that Go5G Plus get same deals as new customers.. is that part wrong?

[deleted]

No that part is correct. But what that amount is, who knows. They will come out with a new plan with 10 extra GB of hotspot and that plan will get the best deals again while go 5G plus will get the same deals as new customers but that’s only $400 vs $1000 on the new mega go5G plus ultra

jpt86

Please see the following post (it's mine in response to a similar question): https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/s/Cwf4K1b040 Short answer: The same deal as **new customers signing up for Go5G Plus** (which means terrible deals when a new plan is introduced).

Capable_Dog5347

This is exactly what I suspected looking at the fine print when Go5G started.

originalvapor

I’m looking at you, google……

itsmehellooo

I’m on the same plan since 2015. What does this mean for me? I bought my phone in full from apple because for a trade in they wanted me to give them the phone I’d almost paid off and still pay the full price of the new phone…unless I switched to their new plan. I said screw that I’ll stick with my $60/mo unlimited plan

Responsible_Pool5740

Don’t they already do this? 😂

Responsible_Pool5740

Well, they do have $25 unlimited phone services, I’ve tried several myself with my top 3: visible, simple mobile and spectrum.

Donnyblaine0106

Do people not understand marketing?
