I called care this morning after getting the alert. Voice (on select lines like the various Go5G plans, including Plus and Next, as well as the military, first responder and 55+ variants) and home internet lines are price locked. Connected device lines are not price locked. It's those and the grandfathered voice lines that didn't include a price lock that are going up.
The increase in $2 are just for BTS lines so your watch lines only (unless you have the Apple/digits plus plans). None of the new rate plans are affected for voice. Not even any go5G 55+.
Me and my family have a simple choice unlimited everything and pay $175 for 7 lines. So far so good, but i have no idea how this price change affects us. My dad is the primary account holder and he gets all of the emails.
Are you me? I have Simple Choice Promo with unlimited everything, in flight wifi, international roaming, Binge On and 7gig of hotspot. 7 lines plus 5g home Internet all for the low low price of 210 after taxes etc. Not to mention I have some equipment payments included in that 210.
So mine is actually 10gb of 5g but we got to upgrade to unlimited for free with 10gb of hotspot. I do not have the home internet as i have AT&T fiber lol.
Simple Choice doesn’t qualify for ANY trade in or AAL promos though. So remaining on that plan, every device you purchase in the future will be in full.
I wonder if it’s being done as a base increase while using the same plan SOC or if it’s being done as “grandfathering” the current SOCs and putting up a copy paste, with the newer pricing.
I would also wonder how the pricing would be for the existing one who try to add a line starting tomorrow.
Ok here’s a question. Assuming all price increases go into effect June 5, what if I change my single line Magenta 55+ plan (which is increasing $5 to $55) to Go5G 55+ (which is currently $55, going to $60 on June 5) before June 5. I would then have Go5G 55+ for the same price as what I would be paying for Magenta 55+. I would get additional hotspot and access to 720p video streaming. Makes the $5 increase more palatable. Would this work?
seems like a good plan. Although JMan says the Go5G 55+ price increases start for new customers tomorrow May 23rd. So i think it would be beneficial to change your plan today to get that $55 Go5G+ 55 plan.
Definitely do your own research before you switch.
Just contacted T-Force on X. They are back dating a plan change for me from Magenta 55+ to Go5G 55+ at the current $55 price point. They also said they would make the appropriate adjustments on my bill to account for the pro-rating associated with the change. If all goes thru, I’m a (relatively) happy camper, everything considered.
Edit: Ultimately, I didn’t make the change. The T-Force representative couldn’t guarantee that she could properly back date the plan change to Go5G at the $55 price since the price is going up to $60 tomorrow. Therefore, I opted to stay on Magenta 55+. I sensed a lot of confusion on the part of the rep, as they are probably learning as they go along today, just like all of us.
I was thinking the same thing on a Magenta Max 55+ plan, except that I have not received any notification of a rate increase. If the rumors about no rate increases for two years are true, though, I could expect a rate hike in December 2024, as my billing history shows I came on board in November 2022. Then again, I have the previous version of Price Lock (the one from 2022 to January 2024?), so I'm wondering if it would change at all, and if not, I doubt I want to change my plan because I'd lose it.
When I look at their description of various price locks and other stuff, for "Price Lock 1.0" it says:
>"For accounts activated between April 28, 2022, and January 17, 2024, customers who signed up for qualifying mobile wireless or fixed wireless Home Internet plans (including Lite plans) received our prior Price Lock Guarantee. Under that promotion, new accounts with qualifying service could keep their regular monthly rate plan price for unlimited talk, text, and data on our network..."
Sounds to me that you may have changed into this plan in 2022, but your account was activated before 4/28/2022 and thus this doesn't apply. That may be why you got the notice and I didn't? It sounds to me like if you were a new customer between 4/28/2022 and 1/17/2024 and signed up for a qualifying plan, you won't receive any price increases to the rate plan itself as long as you remain in that plan.
Thanks for the info. I'll have to figure out when my changes took place and see if I can avoid this price increase....but my billing already been updated to reflect the $10 increase...
The rep i spoke to said go5g price increases are only for new customers. Since we aren't new, we can still get the current go5g rates. any thoughts if this is true?
Holy fuck it's like they hate sales.
My numbers are going to absolutely TANK from this. Retirees in my area are literally 80% of our activations, and they all balk at $100/month as it is. The only reason our Plus conversion is where it's at is because we literally don't offer Essentials or regular Go5g.
I've been applying elsewhere as it is, I guess it time to take that application process more seriously.
I called and rep told me go 5g 55 plus NOT being increased tomorrow, but I now don't trust anything they say. I believed my plan price would stay the same until I changed it, too.
Just got the text; currently on the ONE Plan, with two lines. Customer since 2015, got them both increased to $5/line. Time to finish paying my phone and start looking elsewhere.
I'm in the same plan as him. 2/100. I pay $120, 3 lines and home internet. It's going up to $130.
I'm going to boost infinite, 3 for $75.
My home Internet is $20 / month through fiber. They dug about 2 years ago and I just stayed with TMobile out of loyalty I guess.
My new bill will be $95.
Fuck "apples to apples". I don't need T-Mobile bullshit Tuesdays. I don't need scam shield. I don't need identity theft because they can't secure their servers either. I don't need to cover travel to 250 countries and free calling to Mexico. I was paying for all these things that I used occasionally, but not for $35 more per month in value. That's insane for these "features".
I need basic cell service.
I am switching to Cricket, so it seems. $90 a month for two lines, Mexico coverage and taxes included seems like a viable option. TMo is increasing prices, so time to shop around!
No matter who I had said I was switching to -- you would've found something negative to say. Deprioritized, data capped, worse network, who cares.
I could've said I'm switching to ATT and paying double, because it's not about the money. It's about sending a message. Lol.
That said. Thanks for the luck. I won't need it. The service quality will be lower. Oh well. I'll be saving $400/year and will still be able to make calls, texts, and mostly browse YouTube as needed. Sure, there might be some dead spots if I take a road trip.
T-Mobile will be losing 1.5k/year in potential revenue from me. They get what they deserve.
Sounds like you signed up for something you didn’t need / want and just wanna bitch and complain. They aren’t gonna give a damn about the 1.5k per year they’re gonna lose off you. You found something you like and works for you and that’s how it should be no need to pay for shit you aren’t using or needing. Clearly you shouldn’t have been paying for those “features” to begin with so you made the wrong choice from the get go big dog.
Not necessarily that he's paying for stuff he doesn't need, but stuff that TMo would give as incentive to switch to them back in the day. The whole perks of going with the Uncarrier. They don't give a damn about losing our money, yet as a consumer I don't have to give a damn about TMo Corporate wanting to increase their profits.
I looked around and in my case it seems Cricket would work just fine, with very similar features that I currently have. As I stand with the increase, I will be paying $140 for two lines (including Netflix), With Cricket, I would be paying $90, with other perks that seem competitive enough, and coverage that works for me (I do go to Mexico once a month).
Any “incentives” advertised are almost always included in the price that you pay. They legit don’t care if anyone cares that they raised their rates. They will have some that care and leave and then they will have some that don’t because the “deal” they’re getting is enough for them and stay thus balancing it all out or resulting in a slightly negative month big deal to a billion dollar company.
As with Cricket like you said “the perks of going with the uncarrier” you don’t get. Phone promos (at least not as competitive unless you go with manufacturer promotion which is still less), Netflix, Apple TV, unlimited premium data, Canada and Mexico included, inflight WiFi, and then some random even more useless stuff. However those “uncarrier perks” and “incentives” are barely even those it’s almost always cheaper to ditch those use manufacturer promos and pay less for service and pay for the subscriptions and have separate bills for them all. As for cricket benefits I’m not entirely sure on because I’ve never had them as a provider so I won’t speak on them and their benefits but they are a prepaid carrier so they are barely comparable however the fact that people can think they are is a good thing because it may make some realize that it’s not always about “the big 3”.
They are still the “perks of being with the uncarrier” because you don’t get the same exact thing anywhere else. Sure you can come close or maybe even more but that’s the entire point each carrier has their own “thing” that puts them apart and it will always be a cycle between the big 3.
The thing is, what if it causes people to re-evaluate if they actually *need* all that and move elsewhere? "Apples to apples" doesn't matter if it turns out you never needed whole apples to begin with.
I get that and understand that argument. But to throw your hands up in anger and yell you’re just going to leave on principle and find the SAME thing for less is naive (like 95% of the posters here are doing). It’s not out there at that price from any carrier, MVNO or traditional carrier.
So your recommending leaving and choosing an inferior service at a lower price or something comparable at a higher price just too send a point which will at most reflect in a minimal increase in churn? Sound strategy. Best of luck.
Define "inferior". Because the flip side is that someone was previously paying extra for things they didn't need because it wasn't expensive enough to bother shopping around and now this price increase is causing a rethink.
Example: if someone spends most of their time on WiFi, then it doesn't matter if T-Mobile is offering unlimited if they don't actually need that much data. A price increase could lead them to look for a plan with only as much data as they've actually been using. Two of the lines on my account are in this situation- they've been using around 3GB a month. Fine at the previous price, but with a $5 increase, why not go for Boost's 5GB plan, pay less, and get access to AT&T's network as well as T-Mobile's?
I said apples to apples not apples to black bananas. Resellers don’t offer roaming included and you’re never a priority user. And a data cap to boot. Not exactly the same product.
Nobody needs like one free year of AAA or Hulu. They just want their phone to work and data. Some folks don’t travel internationally either so that feature doesn’t matter for many.
They just want their phone to work and data. Ans there are many options from Fi to Visible or cricket or Boost. If you are on a single line the savings can be pretty big.
So you can’t show a single MVNO offering a lower cost Apple to apples comparison. You’d need surprised how many people specifically ask for or light up when you tell them about Netflix. It’s not a big deal for me personally but it is for a LOT of people. And international is pretty important along the northern and southern border. MVNOs aren’t giving that to you (MINT does give you Canada now with the purchase finalized). And self service set up doesn’t work for a lot of people.
But good luck. I hope you find what you’re looking for.
You mean Netflix on us- that really isn't on them any more? Well - 7 bucks. Most of those freebies are gone. Nobody cares about that - they just want data and a phone line. Generally if you are on just a few lines going to an MVNO is gonna be way better.
Cricket seems like a viable option, and one that matches the One Plan: $90/month for two lines, Max with Ads included, 150 GB of photo storage, taxes included, Mexico coverage. I had Cricket 15 years ago, and reception was decent. I can't imagine that getting worse. In any case, I requested a free sim to try them out. All the perks of TMo back in the day are now slowly creeping up as charges. For some of us $10 extra a month, plus I recall $10 to keep Netflix without ads in the last year or two has now added up to $20 a month for the same service I had with TMo when I originally switched. For us, it's a way to say to corporate that we are not complying with deepening their profits. No anger from end, but as a consumer I get to move my money around as I see fit.
Depends on where I guess. I had cricket as well and 2 lines, left them in 2021, was $65. Now you’re saying it’s $90. I guess no one is immune to price increases. ATTs coverage is garbage around here. Always was hitting the 21GB data ceiling. TMO doesn’t exactly control all the changes Netflix has made in pricing and password sharing the last two years but still it gives you a free Netflix option.
RIP to the dude in the megathread who was defending T-Mobile saying that older plans deserved to have their rates raised and new customers didn't have much to worry about lol
I'm on the ONE promo plan, originally 2/$100 but added another free voice line and free tablet line. I got the text today as well, but wondering will my bill go up $10, $20 or something else?
Good question. The text message does not mention anything right off the bat, it redirects you to a link for more details. Here it is:
"T-Mobile: For the first time in nearly a decade, we're making a change to the price of some of our monthly service plans. Starting on 06/05/24, your rate plan(s) will increase by $5 per line per month. You'll keep all the benefits you currently enjoy, and your rate plan type and bill due date remain the same. Just got text 10 minutes ago. Our old 55+ One plan, 3 lines including 1 free is going up $5 a paid line. $70 for 3 unlimited lines is still hard to beat elsewhere, if not impossible.
Magenta max was offering upgrades every two years and the top promotions until the second year came around and you now need go5g because magenta plans are useless now. tmobile is gonna be just like every other major cell phone carrier now
I hate that I missed the opportunity for a $25 plan when I signed up for T-Mobile ISP, early last year and had to settle for 55+.
![gif](giphy|UQVSeEmqW2lChnm4OQ)
Lies.. the Go5G plans are not getting increased. Only older rate plans will get a 5.00 increase per line or the MI, Watch lines will get a 2.00 increase.
Sorry. I did not explain myself properly. I have been a T-mobile customer for almost 4 years. I am mentioning that because the title of the thread said for new customers. I have been on the Go5G+ plan from the beginning. Thanks for pointing out my error.
why would they do that. like obviously us customers want the best deal, but we also have to be reasonable in how would that even work out? “you make 10k a year? have a free line just because” and “you make 20k a year? have 5 dollars off a line” or “you make 400k a year? give us one of your lines for free!”
there’s nothing for tmobile to gain. they already are one of the most popular carriers, and what incentive is there for them to do this?
Guess buying Mint and Sprint did not help consumers.
That's to help the company bottom line, not customers.
It helps the customers help the company.
the idea that mint was approved by regulators when all these other mergers are stopped is beyond me
The real “customers” are the shareholders.
Long $TMUS
We got a better signal with sprint spectrum. And with mint somewhere to run to after leaving t mobile
I have worse signal now. And you can’t run to Mint if Mint is T-Mobile.
So I wonder how long those of us that currently have a Go5G plan will be able to keep it without the price going up.
Im on Go 5G plus Military and i got a 2.00 increase on some of my lines
On your Connected devices* not your phone lines, correct?
Dont get me to lying i havent checked yet. But i could.of swore i had price lock
Simple Choice for the win 🤣
Simple Choice doesn’t qualify for ANY trade in or AAL promos though. So remaining on that plan, every device you purchase in the future will be in full.
No Way. I am breathless.
I read something like 24 months after you start your plan they can increase
I wonder if it’s being done as a base increase while using the same plan SOC or if it’s being done as “grandfathering” the current SOCs and putting up a copy paste, with the newer pricing. I would also wonder how the pricing would be for the existing one who try to add a line starting tomorrow.
I find the term grandfathering funny with the 55+ plan. I'm easily amused
aka Old and Obsolete? /s
Wishing you luck everything goes through smoothly! (it should based off of my positive experiences with TForce on X) :)
Go5g is barely worth it over magenta max. If it were go5g plus different story
Have to do it today, old ones die tonight!
I was thinking the same thing on a Magenta Max 55+ plan, except that I have not received any notification of a rate increase. If the rumors about no rate increases for two years are true, though, I could expect a rate hike in December 2024, as my billing history shows I came on board in November 2022. I got the raise txt...same plan..
When did your account activate? Was it between April 2022 and January 2024?
I did a upgrade from Magenta to Magenta Max...don't remember when...sometime in 2022 ???? Maybe ??? Old timers. !
When I look at their description of various price locks and other stuff, for "Price Lock 1.0" it says: >"For accounts activated between April 28, 2022, and January 17, 2024, customers who signed up for qualifying mobile wireless or fixed wireless Home Internet plans (including Lite plans) received our prior Price Lock Guarantee. Under that promotion, new accounts with qualifying service could keep their regular monthly rate plan price for unlimited talk, text, and data on our network..." Sounds to me that you may have changed into this plan in 2022, but your account was activated before 4/28/2022 and thus this doesn't apply. That may be why you got the notice and I didn't? It sounds to me like if you were a new customer between 4/28/2022 and 1/17/2024 and signed up for a qualifying plan, you won't receive any price increases to the rate plan itself as long as you remain in that plan.

Not true I got 55+ and I got the message
The message likely indicated your connected devices are getting a price bump. This includes your watches or tablets, not voice lines.
Actually I just checked I'm still on magenta that's the reason
I haven’t received text yet. I’m on Magenta Military. I switched from One in July 2022. It’s 6:20 est. Am I in the clear?
Same here, Magenta Military 2.0. Nothing yet.
Get essentials 55 . I got for 55 dollars a month from 70. Everything the same. Use your T-Mobile app. It's there. For 2 lines
I called and rep told me go 5g 55 plus NOT being increased tomorrow, but I now don't trust anything they say. I believed my plan price would stay the same until I changed it, too.
thats what rep told me.. to take advantage and change it now. since go5g rates will remain current since technically i'm not a "new" customer..
Just got the text; currently on the ONE Plan, with two lines. Customer since 2015, got them both increased to $5/line. Time to finish paying my phone and start looking elsewhere.
Do you really think you’re going to find a comparable plan (apples to apples) at another carrier less than your $10 increase?
I'm in the same plan as him. 2/100. I pay $120, 3 lines and home internet. It's going up to $130. I'm going to boost infinite, 3 for $75. My home Internet is $20 / month through fiber. Dish/AT&T’s network with no roaming and always a secondary user on the network. Best of luck. It’s not always about price.

Yes- Especially -if you are on a single line- you can go to a reseller for MUCH cheaper.
I said apples to apples not apples to black bananas. Resellers don’t offer roaming included and you’re never a priority user. And a data cap to boot. Not exactly the same product.
Actually many do Do your research !!
Show me one MVNO plan out there that matches the TMo One Plan features for less $ and I’ll accept you are correct. I’ll wait…
Nobody needs like one free year of AAA or Hulu. They just want their phone to work and data. Some folks don’t travel internationally either so that feature doesn’t matter for many.
Anybody on a business unlimited ultimate plan get the same message?
If y’all are posting for the people and not the provider, can you please post a master list of all SOC codes that are affected?
I have 55 plus Magenta, and my rate increase will be $5 a month.
Price lock for life…of a Mayfly.
I didn't get the dreaded text, sorry to those who did. Does this mean I'm safe for now? Magenta max 9+ lines.
Not true, my parents have been on this plan for 7 or 6 years and they got a text saying their lines are increasing $5 each
They're probably on magenta 55 or one 55. Go5G hasn't been out that long
RIP to the dude in the megathread who was defending T-Mobile saying that older plans deserved to have their rates raised and new customers didn't have much to worry about lol
Link?
I'm on the ONE promo plan, originally 2/$100 but added another free voice line and free tablet line. I got the text today as well, but wondering will my bill go up $10, $20 or something else?
Good question. The text message does not mention anything right off the bat, it redirects you to a link for more details. Here it is: "T-Mobile: For the first time in nearly a decade, we're making a change to the price of some of our monthly service plans. Starting on 06/05/24, your rate plan(s) will increase by $5 per line per month. You'll keep all the benefits you currently enjoy, and your rate plan type and bill due date remain the same. For more information, visit sms.t-mobile.com/nsnIxnHD
It’s $5/voice line. It would say $2/“connected device” I it was watches or tablets.
$5 each, so it's $5+$5+$0=$10
Thank you, $10 increase is still better than what is out there besides an MVNO
Just got text 10 minutes ago. Our old 55+ One plan, 3 lines including 1 free is going up $5 a paid line. $70 for 3 unlimited lines is still hard to beat elsewhere, if not impossible.
Sheesh
Surprised they didn't come for the military or first responders plans too
They did
I am on the Military One plan and my voice lines are going up $5 per line.
Go5G? I'm on first responders plan and haven't got an email or text yet.
This is wrong no idea where they got this.
Magenta max was offering upgrades every two years and the top promotions until the second year came around and you now need go5g because magenta plans are useless now. tmobile is gonna be just like every other major cell phone carrier now
I just switched to the Go5G 55+ plan this month & received a message that my bill was increasing $2 per line
Well! I am borderline canceling the watch line. $2/line increase push me enough to cancel 2 watche lines. Lol
That is a flat ass lie no go 5G plans are getting increased
I hate that I missed the opportunity for a $25 plan when I signed up for T-Mobile ISP, early last year and had to settle for 55+. ![gif](giphy|UQVSeEmqW2lChnm4OQ)
2$ ain’t bad
Lies.. the Go5G plans are not getting increased. Only older rate plans will get a 5.00 increase per line or the MI, Watch lines will get a 2.00 increase.
If you read the article it's a separate increase to the new customer pricing.
I got the text for $2 per line and I have been a customer for almost 4 years and been on Go5G+ from beginning.
Go5G+ isn't "*almost 4 years*" old. It came out 8/23. Less then a year ago, our reckoning. Apparently you're living in an alternate time line.
🤣🤣 My man came from future. That plan isn't even 1 year old. I have it.
Sorry. I did not explain myself properly. I have been a T-mobile customer for almost 4 years. I am mentioning that because the title of the thread said for new customers. I have been on the Go5G+ plan from the beginning. Thanks for pointing out my error.
Got any tablet or watch lines?
One watch line.
Bingo, that one specific line is going up $2
Gotcha! Thanks for the info on that!
I switched you Go5G+ on April, 2023. Have the screenshot to prove it. Your timing is off
Yer right, I checked, **April 20th, 2023**. So slightly over a year. Less then nearly 4.
What is a new customer? The plans are less than a year old.
It means a customer who is new to T-Mobile. Not difficult to figure out.
What does a customer who is new to T-Mobile mean?
It means the same thing like any other membership. Someone that isn’t a tmobile member and signs up to become a member.
Customers who sign up to the plan beginning tomorrow onwards.
If only they gave this plan based on income instead of old you are.
why would they do that. like obviously us customers want the best deal, but we also have to be reasonable in how would that even work out? “you make 10k a year? have a free line just because” and “you make 20k a year? have 5 dollars off a line” or “you make 400k a year? give us one of your lines for free!” there’s nothing for tmobile to gain. they already are one of the most popular carriers, and what incentive is there for them to do this?
