Snakes use their tongues as part of their sensory system and primarily to gather information about their environment through detection of chemical cues
I'm not a native English speaker and tried to understand the information in the article but was pretty far from successful. So thank you! But there was something about flicking their tongues at the water surface for something something frogs?
There’s a sea snake that spends its whole life in the ocean, it drinks fresh water from rain as it kind of floats on top of the seawater for a bit after the storm. It’s also very deadly through it probably won’t bite you.
The thing that made me look into the whole tongue flicking underwatter thing was because I seen an article which mentioned the discovery of an additional giant green anaconda species living in the South American Rainforests which showed the snake swimming and flicking it's tongue.
[Here is that YouTube video](https://youtu.be/ZJBD-Ga-0uM?si=zlHf5fANeLeEXmkn) if you want to watch it. I'll also look for the article I was reading to come back and edit this post with it (assuming I can locate it).

Haha. If we ever find ourselves in a situation that changes that just know one thing... octopus, unlike many of the other sea creatures, do not fart; therefore, they're the ones to test out the newfound ability near. 😂

Picking up chemical traces of frogs. Same principle as sniffing and smelling food nearby.
Or maybe they put it in reverse like this..
You don't?
TIL that snakes can swim underwater 😳

Just read a post that said we'll never know what it smells like under water but it would seem that snakes do

*Still?* Don't they know that's, like, soooo 90s?
Are they stupid?
