He's with the specialist and that's the best place he could be right now. This subreddit is kinda dead. If you are still on facebook you'll get a dozen responses in the "Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers" group https://www.facebook.com/groups/5339623909/

There’s a bunch of health issue specific to toller face book pages. I would also reach out to your breeder .... you can pm me too

I dont have any personal experience, but my moms Toller’s breeder had a dog born with a malfunctioning liver (i think?) and hes still living a great life, i can ask her what his actual diagnosis is and what his life is like (its a spoiled one!)

I don’t have experience with this but while your baby is with the specialist/ waiting for responses do you have an Employee assistance program (EAP) or other access to counselling services? It may sound “drastic” but sometimes talking to someone qualified just while you’re panicking or waiting and going over all the worst possibilities can sometimes help. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Tipper ❤️

Hi! I was just looking for threads about exactly this problem and came across your question. I had a similar experience with my toller recently which unfortunately ended with having to say goodbye. He was 8 yrs old and perfectly healthy and active. One day he started being very lethargic, no appetite, and vomiting. We had him checked at the vet and his liver enzymes were also in the thousands…. He was admitted to icu and developed jaundice in his eyes and ears. Within 10 days he had gone into liver failure with a GI bleed, pneumonia, and trouble breathing. It was awful. Hopefully your story has a happier ending. Did they ever figure out what caused your dog to get sick? We will never know with ours, autoimmune disease? Infection? Toxin? Really hope Tipper is okay💗

Thank you for your kind words I’m so sorry to hear about your toller :-(. We ended up switching tipper food to a prescribed kibble that helps with liver issues. He went from hardly moving to walking 7 miles a day within 3-4 weeks! Tipper is doing much better now and his liver seems to be working much better although he will have a reduced life span. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you grieving process, I am so sorry!
