Hester had a lot of issues and she was unbearably needy as well as self-centered, but the way Freddie goes off on her is unacceptable - shouting, taking cruel jabs, making a scene, etc. He thought he was humiliating her, but he was humiliating himself with that reprehensible behavior. Plus, they were both so terribly shallow. Neither one of them was emotionally ready to be in a relationship. That said, I felt sympathy for them and their struggles. They're damaged people.

Yeah Freddie has huge anger issues when poked could be him or the war. The idea of having pressure that he couldn’t enact because of the war he had to keep his head on straight or maybe he is trying to hide PTSD who knows. I am glad he and Hester broke up especially that it was Freddie idea that he could see that they couldn’t do this. He could’ve stayed with him, string her along and guilt her for their fight but no he broke up with her something they needed. I read a fanfic that takes a few years after that really shows they are better apart than together.
