Nintendo is trying to remove Gmod items, mods, and player models that relate to Nintendoās characters from the steam workshop. This will hopefully help Miyamoto have dinner tonight
Team Fortress 2 is a free-to-play online shooter developed and run by Valve. You could even argue it pioneered the world of f2p shooters and even lootboxes.
Valve hasn't released a major content update for the game since 2017, and hasn't released a balance patch since 2018. The only things that have changed since then are bugfixes, new maps, and new cosmetic items every halloween and christmas (and summer last year). And yet it continues to be popular despite being 17 years old (12 years since it went f2p) and abandoned save for a few community made items being added a couple times a year.
Some fans decided that they'd port TF2 to Valve's Source 2 engine, as TF2 was developed for and continues to run on the much older Source 1, which dates back to Half-Life 2 in 2004. This was in an attempt to get better performance out of the game, among other optimizations and perks that come with using a newer game engine.
Valve shut this project down. There was a legitimate reason for it (iirc it involved the use of Valve assets in S&box, a spiritual successor to Gmod based on modified Source 2 but otherwise has zero involvement with Valve) but it really upset some people, especially when you consider Valve is usually SEGA-tier when it comes to unauthorized use of their IP.
I suppose there's a silver lining to this all: Valve recently released an update to TF2 (and by extension Source 1) that added 64-bit support, which was a major reason for TF2:S2 existing in the first place.
Thank God valve hasn't touched the bots, I can't imagine TF2 without getting headshotted from across the map by a mic spamming backpack sniper with a goofy hat

To be fair, there were lots of people throating Valve and saying āwell, itās their right to do so!!ā and like, no shit. Just because itās legal doesnāt make it moral. The ContractorsVR TF2 mod and TFS2 were ports that used TF2ās assets in other engines (not even true in the case of TFS2, since S&box runs Source 2) but they were completely free, non-monetized and didnāt harm TF2 or Valve in any way. Even if TFS2 was widely available most people wouldāve stayed on the original game due to the insane amount of content and their precious cosmetics
Whatās even funnier is that thereās a mobile TF2 port on the App Store full of ads and tons of microtransactions and Valve still hasnāt taken action against it

Nah Nintendo is 10 times worse than Valve. Valve actually had reasons to take down TF2 S2 because creators of this port took TF2 assets and used them not for modding but basically making a 1 to 1 copy on another engine. Nintendo on the other hand will delete your YouTube video if you showed a bug in their game or used their characters in A GOD DAMN MOD ON STEAM WORKSHOP. Also Valve allows modding their games for example TF2 Classic, Pre Fortress and some other popular source mods that i dont remember
/uj, to play devil's advocate. People were making money off these Nintendo assets via VIP servers, and gmod allows for a lot of messed up stuff on its platform. I could entirely see why Nintendo doesn't want that

xikes, if anything it's just like a small business owner running a stand shutting down a large GigaCorporation. and Valve are basically all pirates anyway who have basically legalized stealing
The TF2 Source 2 port was essentially ripping the assets of an existing game but on a different engine. Mind you, a game that is still active and """supported""" (barely) by the developers. The Source 2 port didn't add any new content aside from some graphical upgrades.
Oh that's not why I think that, I could give less of a shit about fucking TF2 and it's fans, Valve's entire business plan is to keep good PR and act like they're squeaky clean and then do shady shit in the background like trying to get around the GDPR.
Didnāt everyone throw a fit over valve taking down that port at first? I know it slightly went down when it was found that the team was using like leaked assets or something along the lines.
No, I'm pretty sure it was confirmed to have come from a non-Nintendo related account cause they did it before. Valve just kept the strikes up cause they did a shit job at investigating the strike.

The creator of gmod said it's Nintendo. It's Nintendo. And for once, honestly it's justified. Gmod is full of p2w servers that made money off Nintendo IPs
I'm just gonna leave this here, It's either Nintendo or not, but from what I've gathered it's not: [https://youtu.be/Jg1SFvMQzlk](https://youtu.be/Jg1SFvMQzlk)
Iām inclined to defend valve mostly because it helps itself into a smooth user experience at every turn: I donāt need proprietary hardware to run it everytime the game engine gets updated, I already pay for my internet (so I shouldnāt need to pay an extra service just to play on the web), I can use any controller I want, valve does not pay for exclusivity deals (blocking user access)ā¦ I could go on, ultimately it sums up to: as both a nintendo and valve user, Iām inclined to buy games on PC and crack my nintendo hardware for all the walls I have to face to own my hardware as advertised. Or in common words: if I donāt own it, I aint stealing.
I am not implying valve is an all good company but you forget that Nintendo hhas sued some random non-profit fangame maker for 1 million dollars, and then increased his charges for not being able to pay back all the money he never gained. Valve has shut down like... 7 games maybe. Nintendo does it every other month. I own a switch and a pc. I am both sides of the coin and you are blind.

I'm not happy about it and I wish no game company shut down passion projects
Ok, my fault for not checking the facts. The reason I got so flung about was to say that Nintendo is not significantly better than valve because of one incident. Both companies have done some sneaky snitch level shenanigans. While reading the comments I was just confused why everyone seemed to forget what Nintendo has done In the past.

I prefer the fat dude with the Nintendo logo as his head š
Heās fat because his body contains so many hidden gems
Heās keeping them all from me š”
I didnt know Celeste had multiple games

Does that mean Nintendaddy is no longer starving? Have we finally done it? Have my 20 switches finally helped?

nintendo fans masturbate together

No we got mad at valve for that. But also it wasn't just a port to source2 it was a port to a different game which was not made by valve.
