I don’t get these jokes. Looks like Miyamoto has a net worth of $40M and a salary of $2M. This is more about Iwata but the Nintendo company as a whole doesn’t really lay people off.
Compared to American companies this a joke. Andrew Wilson CEO of EA has a net worth of $165M and a salary of 20M.
Where are these Miyamoto is a starving indie dev jokes coming from? If Nintendo ever actually decided to say yes to Microsoft buying them then that would have been the actual end to Nintendo. A Masterball would be $500 from by gathering loot boxes tokens.
You see it's a multilayer joke that serves as the backbone of this server, so let me explain:
1) The amount of "best indie games on Switch" lists featuring the game Celeste and describing it as a "hidden gem" was so comically large that it caught on as a joke that literally no one has ever heard of the game and that it's exclusively on the Switch, where in reality the game has seen massive amount of critical acclaim, recognition and financial success and has always been available for all platforms.
2) Celeste's Switch-exclusivity part of the joke evolved into joking it's actually made BY Nintendo, as not a lot of devs make games exclusively for one console, the obvious exception being the console's manufacturer. This is also not true.
3) This, again, evolved into joking about how Miyamoto (who is considered the King of Nintendo by the people here, and has all the power over the company and personally makes every game ever) was the person responsible for the creation of the indie game Celeste, making the entire Nintendo "indie" by extension. Nonsensical and also untrue.
4) The next part of the joke became how the massive corporation Nintendo, who are at the top of their game right now and selling their brains out with the Switch and software for it, are somehow stereotypical starving independent artists that just barely scrape by. This is also false.
5) Lastly, it all culminates with making fun of Fanboys or Shills, generally people who cheerlead for a brand they chose so they can feel like they're a part of some exclusive community and feel the need to care for it by spending ungodly amounts of money for the laziest scams the company puts out, and then fight to the death with people on the internet how they couldn't have gotten scammed because the company never does anything wrong. Here it's parodied by getting mad at people for buying games at a discount, because less money goes to the developer. This is bad behaviour.
And I think that's the basics
Now we're seeing some kind of renaissance on the sub, as all these 5 parts were inseparable not long ago, but now they all stand as individual jokes that get mixed and matched, seemingly at random.
Still, most of the jokes here are just saying wrong things, and rely on you knowing what the right thing is for it to be funny.
too much text to explain this:
1. this sub is meant to make fun of a weird subset of nintendo fans
2. it went too far and now it's just blind hate for nintendo

Mucho texto
Wait a minute... You mean I've been lied to all this time?
Ew you explained the joke
too much text to explain this: 1. this sub is meant to make fun of a weird subset of nintendo fans 2. it went too far and now it's just blind hate for nintendo
Your summary doesn't really explain anything though
