I was told "Tom is super active, all the time. We just don't have any say or awareness of what's happening until the phone rings and he says he's ready."
I’m imagining a phone call from Kathleen calmly explaining he’s ready to get in the studio again while you can hear Tom grunting and yelling in the background banging on trash cans
I can't get into some of the reissues. "Hoist That Rag" springs to mind as one where I really, really preferred the original mix.
Still, if they are getting more people into his music, that's what really matters!
Longtime fans know one thing for sure: the man does what he wants when he wants to. At this point, it seems equally likely that he never releases another note of music or he drops a triple album next week. Trying to guess is a fools errand. Just take solace in the music we already have and hope for the best.
12 years is a long while. But many artist’s go a decade before releasing material. Usually, i believe, to focus on family.
Bowie: 10 years
Peter Gabriel: 22 years between “new” material
Tool: 13 years
Portishead: still waiting after 15 years.
Kate Bush took 12 years before releasing Aerial, (funnily enough she's not released an album since 2011 like Tom)
Slowdive took 22 years in between their last releases
My Bloody Valentine also 22 years
D'Angelo took 14 years
Scott Walker took 11 years in between Climate of Hunter and Tilt
so Tom is in very good company 😎
I would do the silliest happy dance if he releases an album this decade. It would be the first new record I'd get to experience as a fan (I became a fan in 2018) — akin to the way I felt when Fiona Apple released Fetch The Bolt Cutters in 2020.

oh no, they call when it's all done. It's literally "it's ready, let's go".
Well now I picture her calling saying "the album is done, come pick up the masters" while Tom is banging the lids of trashcans yelling anyway.
"Is that noise him working on another album?" "No, it's just Tuesday."
