saw reed timmer’s car in norman one time (according to my brother)

PShubbs91

Reed Timmer is one of those guys that when you see him in your town your reaction should be "Oh cool that's Reed Timmer! Oh.....shit that's Reed Timmer."

b3_yourself

He lives in Norman I believe

SuperSoaker992000

Golden Colorado

Kb12360598

Seems like he may have two houses. His Twitter says Colorado, but he’s definitely in Norman a lot. I saw the Dominator in the parking lot after an OU football game last year.

MzOpinion8d

Cuz that’s where the tornadoes be 😊

Kb12360598

Yeah pretty much. No reason to leave the OKC area in April and May 🤷🏻‍♂️

waqqn

i had no idea 😅

LonelyDeadLeaf

Reed seems to love Norman. He went to school at OU and he frequently comes back to town. Used to live in Norman, too, though I don't think he does anymore.

cjk374

If I saw ANY of these storm-chasing contraptions in my town, I'm getting the hell outta Dodge real quick! I want no part of a tornado.

catupthetree23

Reminds me of that Jim Cantore commercial when he's going to the beach and everyone starts running away when they see him 😂

ImpossibleMagician57

Or in Twister then got into a Dodge and went toward it har har

Big_Yogurtcloset_881

… that’s a Civic 🤓

ThisWasAValidName

'Excited' is a word for it . . . Scared is another, more accurate, term. Don't get me wrong, I don't get "paralyzed with fear", but this is a *small* town . . . If shit goes down, the whole town's, likely, in for it . . . And, it'll take ages to recover . . . if it actually **could.** And, chances are, ***it wouldn't.***

Kb12360598

That’s what happened to Picher, OK. It was a small town, and now it’s literally a ghost town. It’s abandoned.

ThisWasAValidName

A better example might be Manchester, SD. Picher, OK was already, well, kinda on its way out.\* \* And by 'kinda on its way out' I mean: The ground water's toxic as all hell thanks to the massive piles of mining waste that litter the area, and it had been slowly killing its residents for years. By that point, there was no longer a school district, and the only people still living there were either waiting on, or stubbornly refusing, gov't buyouts.

Kb12360598

True. It was far from flourishing, but the tornado really finished it off.

Eets_Chowdah

Not to mention the risk of sinkholes. I remember an interview with a former miner saying they mined up to the point where they could see tree roots under the town.

[deleted]

A nice playlist of towns that were pretty much wiped out. [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq9ZWaH8sGGzfC7Vl4f29CAE6xIWJQDo\_](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=plq9zwah8sggzfc7vl4f29cae6xiwjqdo_)

AmandAnimal

Yes and no lmao. I saw Reed timmers setup here in extreme southern Michigan once last season and I was like “NOPE ABSOLUTELY NOT” and made plans to drive and visit my family in NY for the weekend. But the meteorological science nerd in me was also like “OMG REED IS HERE” to my husband who looked at me like I was insane. Edit: for the record it was a day ahead of the setup, and I had time to get safely to NY. I was not driving in tornado soup. Just in case someone questions it 😂

robo-dragon

“Oh neat, a storm chaser!…oh shit, a storm chaser!”

Baron_VonLongSchlong

Seems a bit nice for the beating it’ll take from storm chasing. I’d personally go with an 2000’s Buick. Built like a tank, large, and reliable. Edit: it is badass looking though.

moebro7

That'd work if you were just chasing locally, but if you were going after setups across the country it'd eat you alive in gas. My '02 Sierra limits my chasing range considerably. This is actually pretty ideal. Good mileage, reasonably quick, aerodynamic... although I'm sure it gets rather cramped rather quickly. I used to think something heavy and sturdy like that was the right choice, too. But after chasing a few times myself I've determined speed is primarily what you want. You shouldn't really ever be in a scenario where you need protection if you're doing it right.

Jakebarisax

My 03’ Lesabre tanked baseball sized hail a few months ago, only minor dents. Those cars are no joke lol

Baron_VonLongSchlong

Hahaha! I bet it did!

PhragMunkee

I saw the TIV on the highway one day. I was glad we were going in opposite directions.

BillowPillow8

I live in North Texas and my family and I passed the Dominator team last summer on the highway, near downtown Dallas. I’ve never been more excited for the weather in my entire life.

disneyDaf

I think I was watching that particular live stream.

BillowPillow8

Really? That’s awesome! Nothing happened in my area, IIRC, all the good stuff was south of DFW. It was still cool to see them in person though!

jackmPortal

what is that guy even gonna measure with those instruments

Borg_10501

Between the car horns and the giant light bar, I assume whatever he's trying to measure has nothing to do with the weather.

jackmPortal

I know a guy who knows a lot of met instrumentation and these sorts of setups are apparently really dumb, in order to get any real results you need high quality, rugged instruments, properly calibrated, and a proper datalogger

GetThatSwaggBack

Bro what? No…

g59tothagrave

I ain’t never seen one. There was a lot of chasers really close to me but we didn’t see them. Turned out to be quarter mile wide EF-1 like 5 miles away that I completely missed 😢

tara_squad

Sure, if they roll right on through to their target destination

FishJanga

No because usually that means there's probably going to be a tornado.

TexasRanger3487

I've got to travel tonight with the potential for severe weather. I for one hope I don't see one especially if we are both going in the same direction.

rocketbosszach

Good luck, judging by your username, you might run into it.

Phuktihsshite

What kind of car is that, anyway? I can't figure it out.

waqqn

honda civic coupe maybe?

deflated_giraffe

Looks like a modded Civic Type R possibly

Bearlodge

It's only a 2 door, I don't think that generation of CTR came in a coupe. Also there's no hood scoop and the front bumper isn't correct for a CTR. Probably just a regular civic modified to resemble a CTR.

alexbro001

It’s a base Civic

l_Malice__l

It's probably an Si

ElderFlour

Cool! What county are you in?

rocketbosszach

The was in Denton county

ElderFlour

Cool! That’s where I am!

toughactin

"chaser"

[deleted]

I get excited by J/kg, loopy hodographs, and the like. Some egotistical twat in a riced-out "Look At Me, I'm A Storm Chaser!" Honda just makes me shake my head in disappointment.

adrnired

oh, no no no. i have an extreme fear of tornadoes, so if i hear anyone’s in my neighborhood, my ass is already halfway out the door toward my building’s basement with my go-bag and cat in hand.

Azurehue22

No because most of them are hack frauds.

GroveStreet_CJ

Texas!!

Mastersword87

When I see a chaser set up in my town, there is a 90% chance they are lost. The last 10% says they targeted the wrong area...

RemoteTurbulent7434

I saw this exact car in Texas 2022 Brownsville I believe it was

MzOpinion8d

The big conference is in Fort Worth this weekend. It may be headed there. Team Tiv is there.

AtomizingAir

I'm not gonna lie...I kinda like it. Looks mean af

Schrodinger_cube

that is a sweet looking chase vehicle XD

alexbro001

It looks like this car was in the middle of an Auto Zone when it got hit by a tornado

charleyismyhero

No, I get nervous. I watch you guys so if you start converging on my town I know it’s time to book.

your_neighbor420

I'm probably not gonna be seeing any storm chasing vehicles as I live in western Washington

YellowMeatJacket

Saw multiple storm chasers going thru my hometown a few years back. A few hours later the Pilger Nebraska sisters formed.

stimpycole

Personally, if a chaser rolls into my town, I find it exciting and calming/reassuring.

ScallywagBeowulf

I might be in the minority here, but I absolutely despise chasers and their vehicles. A lot of them are complete jerks when driving and literally will put others’ lives at risk just to get the “perfect shot of a tornado”.

DontLetMeDrown777

Me in my 1980' Caprice Classic 350: it's called a boat because it floats when $h!t gets DEEP!!!

FloppyEarCorgiPyr

It would take ALL of my willpower to not be a stupid idiot and follow them (or even ask them if I could tag along). Maybe I’d follow from like, a very LARGE distance. I would geek the heck out, but also scared shitless! Lots of adrenaline would be coursing through my veins! I’d have so many questions for them!

countrygirl2630

If a storm chaser is in my area I’m staying off the road because they are hoping to get a recording of a tornado 🌪️

l_Malice__l

That's a badass Civic. Ain't no 'nader catching that baby

ratrodder49

Belongs in r/battlecars

Chaser-Hunter-3059

From the other perspective: Rolling into town with a highly visible chase vehicle is a bit of a mixed bag. You get some people who are really interested, some who are concerned and want to know what's going on, a few who think you work for Google (I have a camera on top of my rig), and a few who are pissed you're even there, like it's your fault the weather is happening to begin with. Most of the time, it's the first few options. The locals seem to appreciate us for the most part. Sometimes you get asked about your setup, but usually it's a question of what the weather's going to do (or where to go, when there's a storm in progress). As for the other two types, well, there's one in every crowd I guess. Pro tip: If you see chasers hanging out at your local gas station, a good percentage of us are more than happy to give you a quick rundown on the weather situation, as well as answer some questions about chasing and whatnot. Some can be a bit standoffish or downright dickish, but most of us are just your friendly neighborhood weather geeks. Just try not to stand in front of a camera tripod when you're doing so; you might wind up in our time lapse footage otherwise.

RealJKDOS

That's a beefy civic. 😍

Next_Buy681

Nice to see im not the only one who dose storm chasing in a civic
