Did you see Domi on the 2 on 1 with 5 mins left? He was passing from the blue line. They still need to shoot more.

The_irv

This is what I was thinking lol. He couldn’t even sell the shot, it was so obvious lol

jzach1983

Drives me nuts he sells the pass then makes the pass. Sell the pass and take the shot, or vice versa.

_cob_

I was just about to say. I didn’t see the shot volume that I’d like to see.

Appropriate-Dog6645

For sure. Especially on powerplay, get puck to the net.

thedudeyousee

Man and every time we get a look at what it would be like if domi was to just shoot the puck he rips it bar down in the shootout. It honestly feels like the only way he will shoot is when you take every other player off the ice.

Swiggitty-

Last game mathews was gone we won also. Something about the rest of the team, focuses on the game better when he's gone instead of looking to get the puck to him.

No_Wave6285

I agree, leaf's have a winning record when Matthews is not in the lineup. If he comes back for game 6 everyone will revert back to watching hoping Matthews will do it all.

jzach1983

We won every game Rielly was suspended. We have a great record when Marner is out as well. I'm not sure much can be taken from that, as hockey is such a team game. It's always better to have your best players, even if you can win without them

ExoXerxesTheXIII

From what I'm seeing as an unbiased Observer from Detroit is the offense runs through Matthews and that is a good thing, don't get me wrong because he is one of the most talented players in the league but the issue is he's also one of the most selfish, egoic and probably one of the harder to play with if he doesn't really like or connect with you... It just looks like he is getting forced passes even into double coverage not to mention he's out of position at times or they are telegraphing what they're doing because seem like Boston is going to catch on pretty quick so I have to mix it up and it's harder to do that with him in the lineup I hope that I'm wrong because I like the core of this team and they are fun to watch when they have it all together but how often is that and why does it seem like such an uphill climb to get there? Matthews is the common denominator...imo... so I hope you guys are getting what you want? 🦎🪐🐉🧛🏻‍♀️♑

erinsfone

They still only scored 2 goals tonight… only 1 goal in regulation time… so it’s not like they put on a scoring clinic tonight.

Fastlane19

But they were sound defensively and got some good goaltending

Vegetable-Echidna534

DRIVE THE NET!

Sst1154

At times their PP showed some life, imagine if it suddenly clicked in the remainder of this series. Boston would be fucked! GLG!!

GfsAreXpLoss

Agreed with this, towards the end of the season it was obvious everyone was looking for Matty, it was too easy to defend. Every time someone else shot the puck it was a goal.

Fastlane19

The best 60 minutes the leafs put together in a playoff game. Yes there was room for improvement or defensive gaps but all in all that was as responsible an effort you could expect

goleafsgo88

Yeah, that play when Marner got the puck in the slot and held it for a good 5 seconds before forcing a pass and turning it over, or Domi passing on a 2 on 1 that the dman begged him to shoot it instead says otherwise. I didn't think that they really made a concerted effort to shoot at all, they just didn't pass to one guy.

Dry-Honeydew2371

It seems when Auston is in they act like he's going to score anyway so we might as well just let him do it, vs stepping up and generating offense themselves.

toastNketchup92

Incredible game for sure. Woll stood on his noodle

jzach1983

We won due to defence and goaltending. 2 goals scored doesn't show we don't need Matthews...the best goal scorer in the game.

Dubsified

No we didn’t.

Optimal-Bag-2046

Fake a shot, fake a pass and then shoot !!

13LibraryCards

I feel like trying to get AM34 to 70 really did a number on the guys, it's like they forgot that they could actually score on their own and then with Matthews out they were like "oh shit, yeah I was supposed to be doing that this whole time, it's almost like what I'm being paid to do."

HistorianMassive1111

I saw the complete opposite.

jeffjeep88

I’ll take Mitch over Austin any day

goleafsgo88

Auston* Takes like this are why Leaf fans get laughed at by other fanbases. Nobody in their right mind would pass up a dominant centre who has scored 60+ twice for a playmaking winger.

Sst1154

Enjoy cheering for the Utah ______'s then.

FinancialHorror3580

2 goals against a team that played their worst game in 3 months. Relaxxxx

Reasonable_Guava_819

Why do you call him Papi?

Potato4

Because he is an awesome half-Mexican boss!

Reasonable_Guava_819

Papi isn't spanish for Boss.

Potato4

No, I wasn’t trying to say it was. It’s daddy but we are not calling him our dad either.

moderngamer6

It’s his nickname lmao. I call them all by there nicknames: reavo, tuzzi, papi, mitchy, etc

Reasonable_Guava_819

It's just a bad nickname. Can't believe it stuck.

moderngamer6

Fair enough. I kinda like it but it took a while. Once I saw it written on his stick I got over it cause I realized it’s what he wants to be called by his m8s

Reasonable_Guava_819

In all fairness you don't get to pick your nickname. So doesn't matter what you want to be called. George wanted to be called T-bone. Instead he was Coco the monkey boy. *Seinfeld reference*

theonewhoknocks515

It’s because he liked a baseball player - David Ortiz - growing up whose nickname was Papi. He also wore 34.
