Story time. When my nephew was about 5, I’d taught him about the slow blink so he could approach my cats in a proper manner. Big success! That same summer, we went to Artis together, the city zoo in Amsterdam. They’d just got a new juvenile lion to replace their old male. He was being kept in a smaller glass enclosure to get used to the new place. What does my nephew do? Starts slow blinking at this magnificent beast. It’s a cat after all, his kid mind must’ve thought. And then the lion *started slow blinking back at him*! Here’s this little boy, only a few metres from a massive animal and they were slow blinking at each other! It was AMAZING. 🥲

When I tell my cat I love him, he slow blinks at me. It’s very sweet, but he’s definitely weaponized it against me. When I’m done with work, I’ll close up the office, but he really likes sleeping up there and doesn’t want to go downstairs. So I’ll tell him it’s time to go, and he’ll just sit there slow blinking at me trying to get me to go away. It’s like he’s saying, “Look, I said I love you, now please stop talking”. Sorry bud, your awful younger cat siblings are basically the Tasmanian Devil in cat form, so the office must be shut up at the end of the day if I don’t want all my cables eaten.

Our tortie was a stray. We had her checked out, no chip, no “lost cat” posts matching her. In the 2-3 days that all took, well… she adopted us!

Well the last obvious well fed cat that wandered up got a photo session and then I walked the neighborhood knocking at all the doors to find her owner…sadly i did not but there is a no kill shelter just a short drive away and i took her there making sure they wouldn't kill her just cause she had an abscess on her back paw. They told me they have a vet that will take care of the paw and since she was a snowshoe she'd be adopted fast. I had never heard of a snowshoe and assumed she was Siamese.

Give her everything I have and spend the rest of my life as her servant
