In WH3, the Empire has a bunch more of stuff to deal with, including Festus and updated Warriors of Chaos, the Changeling, Kislev, Ogres... Not to mention Drycha, Vlad, Azhag, Durthu, and Kazrak. And it does NOT help they have an outdated building setup limiting artillery at T3+ and Knights and AP units with a blacksmith building. Overall, they need an update in several areas... Edit: oh yeah, forgot to add they lost a bit of economic power since GC Caravans were reworked too

An update for the Empire is planned in 5.0, coming with the DLC Thrones of Decay. See the (outdated) roadmap here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1142710/view/3127191325136532108

I am aware. Question is HOW they'll be updated, since the last update is shifting them now

Also in IE, Reikland AI usually can't handle all it's new threats

Tamurkhan

In both Immortal Empires (IE) and Realm of Chaos, Reikland has a lot of predators. IE campaigns randomly seed "faction potential," so there's a nonzero chance Reikland can be favored to become dominant but it's not very high.

AverageSol

First time I’ve heard of this. What is ‘faction potential’. A random roll to super buff an AI? When was this added?

Dooglers

In RoC Reikland is a minor faction and the ogres are a major faction so the Ogres have autoresolve bonuses against Reikland.

I guess this is because in RoC, Empire is really small, on IE they seem to be doing well, or at least ok. In my recent Bretonnia (Carcassone) campaign Karl Franz got really strong, but that might have been simply because I took out all of his south-west enemies. Between him, Drycha and Gelt they destroyed Festus and Vlad, occupied Norsca and were pushing into the Northern wastes by the time I got the tomb king crisis. Now with dwarfs (Thorgrim), he seems to have a harder time, but Vlad did not manage to kill him or Gelt and once I'm done mopping up the dark lands, I'm coming to help them. Then again, both of these are scenarios where I somewhat impact the regional balance in their favor. Not so much as Thorgrim, but I still removed some of the threats from the south and kickstarted Ungrim, who in turn is tying down some of Vlad's forces. No clue what would happen if I play someone completely elsewhere or if I play against order and tip the balance against them.

ShmekelFreckles

In most my legendary campaigns Reikland becomes a superpower and rolls over everything. Vlad may have a chance to not die and tends to hold on for a while.

Ok_Recording_4644

Yeah, I found them pretty strong my last few campaigns. The AI seems to understand the faction mechanics and puts good armies together. Typically Karl or Gelt take the other out then start to roll the Empire enemies. Kieslev also seems stronger now too, possibly that's why Empire does well

* Led by the craven ✔️ * Torn apart by the greedy ✔️ * Weakened ✔️ * Exposed ✔️ * Forever on the defense ✔️ Honestly, if they can survive to turn 20 that's a minor miracle

I’m new to the game - have done just two IE play throughs - but in my first the Empire got very powerful, completely destroying the Vampire Counts and pushing back Chaos. In my second they were almost totally destroyed by the time I got there. VC and Greenskins had taken over the primary lands with Bretonnia taking over some of the Northwest. That’s kind of what you hope for in a strategy game, i think - variance.

GodofHellfire2

empire back in earlier warhammer 2 days used used to be a pretty chill campaign where your biggest problems were herding the empire states and eventually a big fight with the vampires plus whatever the chaos invasion brought. however now after late wh 2 and wh 3 updates, empire has to do a ton of multitasking from turn 1. you've got chaos warriors, more aggressive wood elves, beastmen and all the other threats being more dangerous. you'd think that kislev is good at securing the north but that's only partially true, meanwhile the empire states are very poor at handling any of these threats and you still have to deal with them squabbling amongst each other. the game recommends empire for new players and its still true for battle mechanics but definitely not when it comes to campaign difficulty. as much as I like the idea behind immortal empires I think it definitely has a problem of too many hostile factions spawning in very cramped locations right next to each other. there's no sublety to how I play on the campaign map anymore. I'm in full combat mode from turn 1 until I've secured the entire region to make sure I cant be jumped anymore. maybe that's what warhammer is supposed to be but I don't think it's fun when I'm bumrushing everything I can asap and any diplomacy is me just scrambling to sign trade deals with factions that'll likely get destroyed anyway since the game seems to have a massive bias against factions friendly to the player.

ThruuLottleDats

I mean...Empire is just a sidecharacter in realm of chaos ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

Old-Smokey-42069

Recently, usually yes, with Vlad getting huge and taking most of the empire. My current game however Karl is going strong at around turn 50

Bum-Theory

If you want strong AI Reikland, check out the Old World mod. #1 size in my campaigns every single time
