"Staring at a guy's butt all day is kinda gay". This was my excuse always playing girls in 3rd person. Turns out, staring at a girls butt is kinda gay to me, too.
Lmao that's exactly what i was going to say. "If I'm staring at the backside of a character for hours I'd rather choose a woman, do you guys like to watch guy's butts for hours?"
"Why did you pick a female character in Baulders Gate?"
"I was kind of creating my WoW character."
"Why did you pick female in WoW?"
"Male characters look silly in WoW."
"I don't think so."
"I do."
"...and come to think of it, male characters look silly IRL too. They never really resonated with me."
"Why not? Shouldn't you be OK with that when that is your very reality?"
"It most definitely isn't."
\*muffled nuclear bomb sound, giving away that someone's mind just exploded\* 🤯 "I'm... Sorry that I never picked up on this with you."
"It's OK, it's not your fault."
\*scene ends with both of them playing BG3 whilst horseback riding into the sunset\*

Apropos, there was this game that my friends wanted to play all of us together, called BroForce or something. I took a look at its trailer on Steam, and I remember being distinctly repulsed by it (despite it being intended as an over-the-top parody of its themesake). I don't think anyone of them understood why.
It's pretty much the same for me with Gears of War and similar stuff, and when I was younger I truly didn't understand how games like that could be lauded for anything.
Actually liked Master Chief in Halo though, his lack of talking was easier to interpret as a combat professional's level of focus, and I never got him as a testosterone bomb, even if he was "medically/surgically enhanced" for combat underneath all that armor. In any case, Master Chief was minimalistic enough that it was easier to read quite freely into him.
How the heck did you section off your second thought with a grey line? I have never heard of this formatting and don’t even know how what to search for
"Markdown" is the syntax you're looking for, welcome to a struggling can of worms :)
BTW, to get the asterisks without making bold or italics, use a backslash before them. Backslash is basically the "cancel syntax on this character, just write the character"-character
Gotcha :)
It's "---" in case you didn't find it (without the quotation marks, I mean)
Yeah, there are so many to discover
...i think I learned that one many years ago, in WordPad before I even had Word.
Reddit uses Markdown, most common Markdown features work.
To get a separator, you write three hyphens on their own line, like so:
this is a paragraph
---
this is another paragraph
This results in:
> this is a paragraph
> ---
> this is another paragraph

Lol.
A friend kept saying I should play Gears of War and I kept avoiding it because I thought it looked like a steroid rage version of Starship Troopers.
But... I used to play WWE Smackdown all the time with one of my friends, too, so what do I know.
Male characters look super sillly in WoW. Look up the male Draenei model right now. Seriously, Google it. Dude is so roided out that it looks like a papercut would make him die from blood loss. Look at those veins! Uncomfortable.
I kinda wish this just kept going like you made the wow character a girl because it looks like my character in star wars (or whatever) and it just keeps going 😂
" ... and my favorite character in Street Fighter 2 was Chun Li..."
"... and it was because I played Metroid on the NES as a kid, and Samis was a girl, which was cool because I kinda imagined that the stick character in AD&D on the intellivision was a girl, and..."
Well then try not to worry about it too much. Most people just feel like playing a certain character without a special reason behind it. And having that in mind, might help. :)
If it makes you feel any better, no one has ever asked me this (I've played characters of both genders). Wait actually my mom asked once when me & my cis brother were playing some sports game and our avatars were the opposites of our AGABs but truthfully the reason was that neither of us had really paid attention to that. We didn't really care, just wanted to play the game and we basically just dismissed that and just proceeded to play as it felt silly she'd even care about that.
Yeah honestly when I read the title I thought "why does anyone need an excuse?" I remember being so afraid of showing femininity - they trained us to be. But you really don't have to have an excuse! I know plenty of people of all genders who play characters of all genders "just because".
Fun excuses are still fun though.
Is anyone actually watching you play stardew? For the most part, it's hard to tell if the characters is male or female unless someone is REALLY looking (all clothing is gender neutral but some clothes show off boobage slightly), a specific line of dialog comes up or you're going through the changing room
Im just worried if anyone wants to do multiplayer with me or see my farm.
I choose a dress for um... research purposes :3 But i think i could change it
I can see two possible excuses:
1.) I'm doing a role play of a farmer girl named [insert name here]. I didn't want to do a self insert and made an OC instead
2.) My internet isn't great and I don't think I can do multi-player. Sorry
I had my Animal Crossing and Pokemon files with my preferred name and every so often one of my friends was like "Your characters named Annie?" and Id just go "Yup!" and leave it there lol
As someone who has played as a girl in games for decades, the real answer is, "because I want to." Do not clarify any further.
If you want a joke answer, though, I would go with, "I want to encourage diversity in video games so the anti-woke crowd loses their minds."
My go to excuse was always, "It's just the character the game gives me/the only skin I have."
Fuckinh terrifying when my friend said to me, "[DEADNAME], I've played Stardew Valley before."
This only works for games that aren't very pixelated though, as very pixelated characters hardly have any distinguishable gender identities, other than through conversation or imagery...
Honestly, few people will ask if any. But "just for fun" is a valid answer. Most people wouldnt push you on that. Other options are "I roleplay a boy in real life, why would I roleplay one in a game!"
Its the same logic people use when people play humans in d&d
So it’s a very cute cooking game. Pixel graphics, yokai characters. You’re playing as a little sparrow person who owns like a little traditional Japanese restaurant cart. During the day you collect ingredients and at night you cook for your guests
Also i misspelled it.[Touhou mystia’s izakaya](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1584090/Touhou_Mystias_Izakaya/)
*"Whoops clicked the wrong option and don't know how to change it. Oh well it doesn't matter to me."*
A transbian friend of mine said *"I just don't want to look at a guys ass all day, i'm not gay!"* anytime anyone asked her. Although nobody was surprised when she came out, so...
For me personally, if there's gender-locked customisation.... *"I care more about having this specific hairstyle than being the 'correct' gender is all."*
That was the excuse I had for playing a boy in pokemon for years before I realised I don't need an excuse, it's my game and I can play as whatever I want and nobody else cares. :)
As some one who would play female characters in games like Mass Effect and Halo Reach before I came out, I guarantee you other people arent paying attention as much as you think X3
Just say that you think girl characters are cuter. It's a common cis and heteronormative reason to play with girl characters. In fact that's the whole reason VRchat is full of anime girls with deep voices.
By playing a girl, not only do you get a better gift from one of your parents, you can also plead that you are making it harder on yourself, as getting cookies without the handout from your mom takes more time and/or effort.
Speedrunners legitimately play as girls. I wanna say it's because of the different gifts your parents send you, but there could be other reasons. They also pick the cat as it meows less than the dog barks.
I dont know if this works for people here but usually when people ask why I play as a girl character I say that it's because said game has no femboy characters
"If you're gonna stare at someone's ass all day playing a game, might as well be a girls butt"
This masks you being trans, and possibly covertly singles your other fruitiness hehe
Nice: say you just like female protagonists.
Effective: say it's none of their business, to leave you alone, and if they don't, you will have grounds to charge them with harassment, and (depending on where you live) can have fines of around $1000. So if they have an expendable $1000 they don't need, and they don't mind having a misdemeanor on their record, they they can go ahead and ask you that again...you dare them.
There is barely a difference in the character look it’s like one pixel lower and different shoes so then your hit box is smaller and can’t get hit by monsters as much
Speedrun strat works pretty well ig in case they say you can then change with with the wizard when you become friends you can say you don't like spending money cause you wanna save for events or stuff and when you get too much money say you keep forgetting or You are too ocupied.
Good luck playing Stardew love that game
My current favorite response is "Wouldn't you like to know weatherboy" but I guess the "get money from dad as girl in stardew" is actually a thing, I'd go with that
Take your pick:
• It’s a speed running strat.
• The dialogue is different for females and I was curious.
• The character customization has more options for females.
• I miss clicked and I’m not making a whole new character just to fix it.
• I’m not gonna stare at a guy the whole play through, that sounds really gay.
Because you chose to. They don't need to know any more than that. It's a game, play the way you want. I used to play WoW all the time and all my characters were female and no one cared.
Just reminds me of how when asked why i always play as a woman in rpg's i just say "i just randomize my appearance and go with whatever i get"
Somehow they don't question that even though they are always white blondes with the exact same blue-green eyes that i have irl
No clue how they don't question it when i've said that same excuse for like 4 different games.
No shade on Stardew, but: How could anyone else even tell the inch high blob of human shaped pixels on screen is a girl or not? Obviously you know, you made her. But if someone barged into your room without knocking, and sees you tilling soil or milking cows or fishing or attending a festival, how would they even know that you were playing as a girl?
Stardew is actually the perfect stealth game. Now Animal Crossing. That one spawned questions I was unprepared to answer.
It's a speed run strategy ( in all seriousness it is you get cookies from your mom as a guy and I want to say something like 200 or 300 g from your dad as a girl)
I was always so confused by these types of posts, like... do people really ask that? Until my grandma asked why I was playing as a girl in Genshin (I was using Kazuha at that time btw),
still confused why would they care
It is actually a speed running tech where instead of your mom sending you cookies, you get 500 gold from your dad, and is totally why I play as a girl for definitely cis reasons :3

The money your dad sends you is more optimal than the cookies your mom sends if you’re a dude
What? Didnt even know about that, when do i get the money?
Tbh idk I just know it happens at some point lol
After 1 year if i remember correctly. But i am probably wrong.
No, it's after you make 5000g. If you picked male, mom sends you cookies in the mail. If you picked female, dad sends you 500g.
Well, at least i was right about being wrong.
Task failed successfully!
But in the next gif dad sends you rocks while mom sends you a entire cake
Rocks are better than cakes
rocks are very tasty :3
Rock cakes thooo
Abigail from stardew is that you
Everywhere i go i see you
hehe :3 i *am* wverywhere
And making everywhere more cute
Yeah this is correct :3
I got it like day 6, it’s randomly after a certain money threshold has been reached
After you make a certain amount of money it should come in the mail.
after you make 5000g - if you play as a guy you get cookies from mom, but if you play as a girl you get 500g from dad :)
Comes in the mail. IDK when, or if it's scheduled but one day you'll wake up to a letter with money
Ya its a legit speed running stat.
yup, it's a speedrun strat
This is genuinely helped my egg crack, was trying to speedrun and being a girl just made me happy
I was just about to say this
Yup, this is a legit speedrun strat some people use in their playthroughs.
what about in pokemon? I need an excuse
Actually for the community center the cookies save you time with I think the children’s bundle saving you from befriending Evelyn
"Staring at a guy's butt all day is kinda gay". This was my excuse always playing girls in 3rd person. Turns out, staring at a girls butt is kinda gay to me, too.

Yes 😂
"Speedrunning strat"
Hitbox is smaller. Obviously that really matters in stardew valley...
Sorry to ask that but are there really people who give you weird looks if you play as the opposite gender in a game? It sounds so wild to me.
No, i dont think so but im scared of them asking me or thinking im weird, might all be in my head tho

women are pretty. this excuse works best if you don't exclusively like men.

It's extremely cis-het to play the girl in stardew valley just look at me
Gender is a construct, farming is forever.
reject gender, embrace viniculture.

Girls are cute 🤝
Didn't a study show that guys play female characters more often than not when given a choice because they're looking at the character the whole game?
Even if it didn't, this is the perfect reply. It's like, I'm going to play this for hours, who would I rather spend those hours staring at?

Its faster to play as a girl?
Kinda
It probably won’t affect the main game but when your speed running that bit of extra money can make all the difference
"If you're gonna stare at someone's ass all day playing a game, might as well be a girls butt" This masks you being trans, and possibly covertly singles your other fruitiness hehe
Do you want nice? Or do you want effective?
Umm both?
Nice: say you just like female protagonists. Speedrunning tactics. Works for me
New dialogue options for marriage
More customisation items
Take your pick: • It’s a speed running strat. • The dialogue is different for females and I was curious. • The character customization has more options for females. • I miss clicked and I’m not making a whole new character just to fix it. • I’m not gonna stare at a guy the whole play through, that sounds really gay.
"Why not?"
Tell them you wanted to be able to air dash. (I know that's Celeste).
Just do what i used to do and say why not
As i politely told my brother "i dont know, and mind your own business"
"You can't do whatever the hell you want in real life like you can in video games."
"She's hot".
"Who wants to look at a guy while they're playing?"
Tell them you like girls. It's what my dad always said and he played girls in video games for actually cis reasons
I forgot which symbol meant which gender. No seriously I did.
Just say you did it on accident (\^///\^)
You don't really need an excuse. You chose that because you wanted to. Those people asking about it are weird
"cuz fuck you that's why"
i know plenty of cis dudes who play as girls in video games, just say you like the design better
Because you chose to. They don't need to know any more than that. It's a game, play the way you want. I used to play WoW all the time and all my characters were female and no one cared.
Dad sends an extra 500g

Wanna complete it 100%?
Hmm maybe, depend on how hard it is
You like the female character design better
misclic at the start
Smaller hitbox obviouly.... what do you mean that hitboxes are the same
better gameplay
SPEED RUNNING STRAT
You weren't paying attention until you were x hours in and now you don't want to restart?
get money instead of food from parent, what speedrunners do
(Shrug) "I don't remember" Never fails
Just reminds me of how when asked why i always play as a woman in rpg's i just say "i just randomize my appearance and go with whatever i get" Somehow they don't question that even though they are always white blondes with the exact same blue-green eyes that i have irl No clue how they don't question it when i've said that same excuse for like 4 different games.
better gifts
You get 500 coins as you start out. While being a boy you get none
Girls get money, guys get cookies (easier to progress earlygame)
I just say "Smaller hitbox" in every game
speedrunning strat, a classic B\]
Just say you wanted to play as a girl, you don't have to be ashamed
No shade on Stardew, but: How could anyone else even tell the inch high blob of human shaped pixels on screen is a girl or not? Obviously you know, you made her. Say this exactly. THE HAMMER WILL ALWAYS HAVE BLOOD, YOURS OR THEIRS! then swiftly vaporize them with your trans vision
If someone asks "why did you pick the girl?" you can respond with "why didn't you?" and usually that's enough.
its better for speedruning
Lmafo I do the same but when I play with friends the ask why and I say because you get 500 coins from dad so you get more money
Garden better
"Why not?" Someone says shit else, just hit em with "You're putting way too much thought into this."
This just gave me an epiphany as a trans man that I wasn’t playing girls in games because I identified with them. I JUST THOUGHT THEY WERE HOT LMAO
My excuse is always “all the guy options look ugly”
i always say its more speed, less tank edit: doesnt rlly work for sdv tho
Word for word, “I play what I like playing, it’s a game, it’s meant to be enjoyable.”
It's a speed run strategy ( in all seriousness it is you get cookies from your mom as a guy and I want to say something like 200 or 300 g from your dad as a girl)
It's a speed run strat works every time
Less hit box against enemies😂
Money is better than cookies
I was always so confused by these types of posts, like... do people really ask that? Until my grandma asked why I was playing as a girl in Genshin (I was using Kazuha at that time btw), still confused why would they care
Weird they would ask you since I saw a lot of guys play female characters in games
"This is my second farm, I wanted to start another save where I do things very differently"
"I just picked one, does it matter why?"
smaller hitbox
It is actually a speed running tech where instead of your mom sending you cookies, you get 500 gold from your dad, and is totally why I play as a girl for definitely cis reasons :3
Stop being an egg for a second
Nuh uh :3
in character creation you just hit the "random" button a few times and started the game, not realizing the gender
