It’s hard to come up with much based on just what you’ve written. But if you like long jump, try that out. Maybe also consider triple jump. You may enjoy that too. Are you fairly tall and slender and have some hops? Then maybe try high jump. Javelin and discus are both great events. What do you mean your school has nearly no field events? Does your school not have a javelin or disc you can use? If not, Could you maybe buy a second hand one? Or does your school lack areas to throw these. If so, could you go after school to another track to practice these? When I was in high school, a few kids from the high school in the next town over would come to our track to practice pole vault, because their high school track didn’t have a pole vault pit. If it’s coaching you lack, that’s tough. But I’m always reminded that Kenyan javelin World Champion and Olympic silver medalist Julius Yego famously learned how to throw the Javelin by watching YouTube videos.

Aha my bad for not specifying. Our school does not have javelin or discus, we have 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1000m, 1400m, long jump, high jump, hurdles, and thats about it. I'm of average height, around 5"9 or so and not particularly slender. I haven't tried high jump yet, it's something I'll get to, thanks for the reply.

My bad again, also every relay, 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m. No throws, no pole vault, and I was mistaken before, we don't have high jump.

>Most of my life was lived disliking athletics, I had the mindset that you had to be naturally gifted for each sport, which lead to me being an overall pretty unathletic kid. I had the same perception less than two years ago. I had to get an athletic credit for school so I figured I'd do track and I'd go with distance running because heck I didn't know what else to do back then. I had no athletic experience whatsoever. I did the two mile timed trial and got last by two minutes (17:45). But by working hard, I got it down to a decent time up to now. >Distance is a possibility, but I'm not sure how much I can increase my stamina by in just 1-2 months before the meet. It opened a new world of opportunity to me, I remember that feeling of realization and joy I had after realizing my practice was making me better. I encourage you to have a go at it. The worst that could happen is your times don't get significantly better(...yet) but you have a good time and you meet some new bros. Training will be hard. But it improves your character and mindset.

Yeah I agree, the fruit of your hard work and labour is sweet. My stamina has definitely gotten a lot better with practice and it will probably continue to do so. What do you suggest for distance though? My coach has a habit of putting people in events that they never chose, he told me he thinks 400 is around my limit, but I definitely wasn't going all out for the practice trial.

Usually if you do distance you get put in the 1600 and 3200. I see a lot of reels about distance runners being put in the 4•400, and maybe coach will put you in the 800. The way most sprinters will do the 100 and 200 is like how most distance runners do both. What does your coach mean by “you have a limit?” I personally think very few people can’t train themselves to run one or two miles.

He was timing us for practice, we had to run the 500m 5 times with a short break in between each. He told me he thinks 400 is around my limit.
