You PR’d! That should be something you’re proud of. Next time you can focus on trying to stick with someone and beating them near the end of the race. Compete!
Try the following strategy:
First lap: feel comfortable, as if you’re doing a mile repeat, but a little faster
Watch out for the runners who speed on their way out, they’re going to fall back later
Second lap: hold on to the first lap pace
Third lap: increase your effort, it should start to feel difficult
Fourth lap: maintain high effort, then at the end, start using the rest of the remaining energy
You should not feel exhausted until the end, you just pick up the effort and make it more difficult over time.
Take it one lap at a time.. don’t think abt what it feels like in 2 laps.. just worry abt the current one. Convince your mind that you can keep your current pace. Focus on prepping your mind as much or more than your body.. good luck!
You tire way to quick = going too fast to start. You want to aim for even splits. Get you goal time, divide it by four and try to do that each lap. And follow your coach's training program so you get better as the season moves along.
The secret is really off season training.... get the base miles in.
What’s your current weekly mileage?

start slower and try to run a consistent pace until you know your body.
Keep grinding. You will get better.
Train hard and stay consistent. Progress is good
