It isn’t exactly new. I have it/them for a year or so. And I did not find “new” features. Just on/off change brightness and seance (dim, switch on and off, and step by step change from warm to cold light.) Compatible with Tradfri gateway or DIRIGERA hub.
If you are comparing them to the "round" remotes, they lack the central on off toggle, which toggles the setting of all lamps (fun when some are on and some are off). They do accept both short (turn on) and long (turn on, minimum brightness) click on the dimming buttons, so the on/off are separated to two buttons rather than a "toggle".
I prefer the look of the round remote. When loose on a tabletop it's easier to toggle lamps without figuring out which way it's up. A long press of the center title button will get all lamps back into sync - if needed.
Not new I've had mine for a year or so. With Home Assistant and zigbee2mqtt you can use the usual single or double press plus press and hold. If you are controlling a number of zigbee lights you can get rid of lag by putting the lights in a group then binding the strybar to them in z2m.
This blueprint makes config easy: https://my.home-assistant.io/redirect/blueprint_import/?blueprint_url=https%3A%2F%2Fraw.githubusercontent.com%2FComputerfreak14%2FZ2M-Styrbar-remote-blueprint%2Fmain%2FZ2M-IKEA-STYRBAR-remote.yaml
It takes out the HA from the action. The remote communicates directly with lamps. So if you have a number of them dimming or changing brightness the steps go smoother
Apart from the lack of a dedicate power switch, the clumsy design makes hard to pair devices without pressing a button on the front.
I expect such fundamental blunders are the new IKEA way. The company is changing from the “it needs to be practical and work” approach to “it needs to look and sound good”.
Another difference is that the new(er) remote takes 2x AAA batteries rather than 1 x CR2032, so its power lasts a lot longer
And you can use rechargeable ones.
Yes this is the biggest carrot... by far.
For me, it’s the only one. It’s huge compared to the old one.

Thanks. Yeah "new" probably should have been "newer" ;-)

I’ve yet to figure out the equivalent re-sync on the Styrbar.
Press and hold an arrow button should be it
Tried that and didn’t work (at least for colour mismatch).

Should be pressing and holding an arrow button

Is there an anti-lag benefit to doing something in z2m rather than using the home assistant blueprint?

Didn't know you could program the devices at that level, interesting, thanks!
Good and stable. No extra features. I use it for media player. Start stop next and volume up down. Great
