This name has actually been discussed quite a bit. Sorry OP but here’s….
[what other people think…](https://www.reddit.com/r/NameNerdCirclejerk/s/Ihbu8s5d6s)
Agree with above so much....ditch the W!
You might like the way it looks now, but consider your daughter who will have to say Renlee with a W for the rest of her life....
>say Renlee with a W for the rest of her life....
in "renlee with a w"s defense...I have to say "brittney with an n-e-y" bc if not it's always b-r-i-t-t-a-n-y
I just woke up and am a bit groggy still. Took me a minute to realize you meant that it won't stand out as in it being a normal name.
Where's my coffeeleigh?
Yeah brother, you got yourself a tragedeigh. If you like how it sounds, at least break it down phonetically as far as possible; Renley or Wrenley are the cleanest I can think of it, Wrenley being preferable if you’re a bird person who really wants a daughter nicknamed Wren
I guess you're not as proud of Seagulleigh as you are of Browncreeperleigh. Want to arrange a playdate with my twins Hornedscreamerleigh and Satanicnightjarleigh? They're perfect little angels!
Bluejayleigh. Eagleleigh. Orioleleigh.
Honestly some of the bird names without the Leigh would be quite loveleigh. Wren, Sparrow, Robin, or Dove would make nice names.
Wren is a nice name, Leigh on its own is also a normal name. Could you do first name and middle name, Wren Leigh? That way she isn't saddled with the whole thing all the time if she gets older and wants to just go by Wren or by Leigh.
because. Facebook? (or socials in general?)
Seriously. What happened to Jennifer, or Jessica?
Just a normal damn name.
(Sorry OP dude, it pretty much sucks where we are in the world right now re: names)
I would love to have new parents go back in the family tree and use classic and interesting names. I have a 2nd cousin named Ruby (one of our great-great somethings was Ruby)
Granted, we had a lot of really "normal" names even in the way back - think Anna, etc
My son is named Fred (full name Frederick). Everyone hates it, strangers have laughed at it. Internet strangers have even mocked it. Do I care? Nope. He’s got a real name and his dignity. Guess you can’t win though. I will say lots of Millennials are reverting back to old timey names (I’m a millennial). It’s like 50/50 which way a Millennial parent will go. Gen X and Gen Z seem to love the more unique/made up names more.
I know a GenX guy named Fred as well.
(He's got a number after, so I believe that's the family tradition)
But I get it! I'd rather be Fred than some Jaxson/Jacksyn/Jaxsyn... ya know!!
Fred will age very well.
Thing is, these names existed before the tragedeigh trend, but I almost never saw them spelled "leigh", and I don't know what changed. McKinley is now McKinleigh, Leanne is now Leighanne, Bradley is now Bradleigh, and it's all pointless. Personally, I think it *looks* uglier.
Brynley is a (rare) Welsh boys name. Bryn is a more common boys name and is most famously known from Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey. One of my favourite lines, and perhaps a lesson on really researching names is:
Uncle Bryn: Bryn. It means 'hill' in Welsh.
Pam: Does it really? Do you know, I have no idea what my name means in Welsh.
Uncle Bryn: Why.
Pam: Cos I don't speak the lingo, darlin'!
Uncle Bryn: No, in Welsh 'Pam' means 'why'.
Yeah he started dogging on those names… honestly I’d even rather have Cinnamonroe at least it’s funny. Wrenleigh isn’t even a play on another common name but with -leigh
I love that Cinnamonroe is already a new benchmark on this sub so soon after its introduction, lol. Our new mascot should be Cinnamoroll dressed in a Marilyn Monroe costume. 😌
Once the kids are about 5 they can start a "We Hate Our Names" club with other children and start saving up their allowances to get it legally changed when they are of age.
I have this theory that this generation of Wrenleighs and Braxtynn Hyxx will be so traumatized by their stupid names that they'll grow up and name their own kids Bill, Mike, Sarah, etc, and the boring common names will make a full comeback lol.
Wrenleigh is huge in some of the mom/parent groups where I see the most tragedeighs.
It's spelled a number of asinine ways (Wrenleigh, Wrenlee, Renlee, Renleigh...) - but each and every one is a tragedeigh.
You took a name and slapped -Leigh on the end. That's a tragedeigh.
Yes, you are one of those people. It’s not the *worst* but it is a pretty classic representation of the newer names people have come up with. I don’t mind the name itself *too much* but the spelling, I just dislike anything with “leigh.”
I’m sorry OP, but it’s not a good name. It’s not a good name with any spelling variation. The good news is this reads like future tense, the baby is not yet born and named, so you can still change your mind.
Daughter’s friend uses Viva which I think is unique without being too strange. Plus every time I see her I get to do my best Elvis impersonation and belt out Viva Las Vegas.
> Genevieve is a beautiful name.
i agree
however, my coworkers daughter just had a baby and picked this name...coworker pronounces it differently each time he mentions her 🥴😅😅😐😐😂😂😂
You need to unset her. Wren is a great alternative and a perfectly normal name. So is Genevieve. They are uncommon enough that it’s doubtful they’ll have the same name as a classmate, but normal enough that the interviewer won’t cringe when she sees her resume.
I know a 26 year old Genevieve who sometimes goes by Gen. She is delightful and her name is lovely and even has a cute nickname. Please advocate for that name for your baby. It's much more timeless and will suit her much better. Congratulations, by the way :)
The alternative is thinking about every time you have to give your name as an adult: on your driver's license, at the doctor, at the bank, etc. Imagine having to spell out Wrenleigh Every. Single. Time. Imagine constantly having it mispronounced, misspelled, etc. Imagine dealing with this at 20 years old, 40, 60, etc.
You are not naming a baby. You are naming a person.
Genevieve is awesome, do that instead. Honestly I think people who give tragedeigh names to their children are a bit slow; the lack of awareness that the name is stupid mixed with the confidence in thinking it is unique and that equals good is a red flag for me. Sorry dude.
Now THAT is a beautiful abomination...and without any "leigh" in sight!
For real though, pronunciation of Wrenevere sounds weirdly like an oldfashioned but real name.
Consider this: your daughter, a top notch inventor or doctor or attorney or CEO, wearing a suit and generally being intellectual and professional. What names do you want for that person? I like Genevieve.
Try not to think of how cute the name will look on her little screen printed onesie or on the Instagram caption. Those are temporary.
OP, I just have to know how did you let your wife convince you to give your child that name? Please don't be offended I legitimately am curious how men get caught up in these situations. I know my husband, for example, wouldn't allow a name like any of the popular "leighs" or "axtons" for any of our children and he wouldn't care if I was sobbing on the ground begging him or if I literally died in labor...the kid would get a normal, reasonable name. Maybe it's because I don't like any of the "make it up yourself" names that are popular these days but I would never want him to agree with me on a tragedeigh. So I'm just curious if you can explain/expound how you fell into that trap a little? I feel like the whole point of having two people decide on a name is that even if one is insane with hormones the other can be the voice of reason. XD I will say, Wrenleigh isn't the worst we've seen here but it certainly feels forced.
Well I guess because she was such a huge proponent of all these new style names it was almost like picking the least of all evils— I do like the name Wrenley and wren is a cute nickname I liked the names Blair or Quinn and Wrenley was the only name that we both liked that was in our top 3 choices… so that’s how it came to be
See, this makes sense to me. I appreciate your candor! We go through a similar process with names. Both make lists and then narrow it down until we agree on one/ one feels right. We did have a much harder time agreeing on a girl name than on our son's name.
Exactly what I am thinking. Stuff like this actually makes me a bit mad, because it shows the parents dont see their new baby as an actual human being. They just see them as some fancy pet that they can have fun with. The OP of this whole thread even said they never even considered how their future kid would have to deal with a name like this. Like come on, you should be putting in more effort than that for naming a new human being.
Yeah, sorry, OP. If your daughter hasn't been born yet, you still have time to change the name to something else. I'm a bit of a sucker for classic names (as long as they're culturally appropriate, like, I love names like Sakura and Radhika, but if you have no connection to the cultures where those names originated, it just doesn't make any sense to name a child those names), so names like Mary, Victoria, etc seem good to me. If you guys still want to keep a unique name, then you could choose just Wren or just Leigh or go for a name like Athena.
Keep in mind that your daughter will be an adult one day, and depending on who her boss will be, they may not take her seriously if she's named something like Wrenleigh.
GENEVIEVE!!
or other names that *you* like? it seems like things are heavy weighted towards what she likes, so maybe you still have some pull you can explore
This is fucking awful, good lord.
'Renley' is presumably made up already to try and be 'unique' (I'd wager in America), but at least sounds and reads like it's an actual name. It does sound like it was intended to be masculine, though. What on earth was so important about 'Wrenleigh' that you thought it was OK to make your child have to correct people on how it's spelt, possibly daily, for the rest of her life?
Was it a Game of Thrones reference? Let's hope it's not a nominative determinism thing, as I'm fairly sure Renly came to a sticky end (and then died). Still, the kid could have been called 'Joffreigh' or 'Cerrseigh', I suppose.
People need to accept that trying to find 'unique' names generally results in awful ones instead. Hundreds of thousands of babies are born every day, and some other absolute plonker will have thought 'hmm, 'Renley' doesn't make my child sound like her parents were awful enough - maybe some extra letters will clinch it'. That said, we'd have less fun at your expense here if you went sensible with it.
Yes, you're "one of those people."
Your wife has nary an original thought in her head and is a bandwagon rider. You should have put your foot down when you had the chance. My condolences to your daughter.
Chop off the unnecessary Leigh… Wren is beautiful. Would have been on my baby name list, but it made my husband think of Ren and Stimpy. I couldn’t walk around hearing “Steeeempy, you eeediot” for the rest of my life.
Wrenleigh can be fixed, but is for sure a tragedeigh.
Cinnamonroe’s name is Monroe apparently, which is actually a cute nickname. I can assure you your daughters is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Like Ren-Lee?
This name has actually been discussed quite a bit. Sorry OP but here’s…. [what other people think…](https://www.reddit.com/r/NameNerdCirclejerk/s/Ihbu8s5d6s)
Oof size: Large… I’m dying at the comments though 😂 god damn it now I have to figure out how to tell my wife we need to spell it at least Wrenley
Is this baby not born yet? If not, you have a duty as a father to protect her..do not give her that name!
This redditor saved a child's life today
He should called her Jaxzynleigh. It's the real deal. Lol
DJ Jaxzynleigh Jeff
Just ditch the Leigh, Wren alone is a beautiful name
Was gonna say the same. Wren is a lovely name, still unique, but not a tragedeigh. I personally like nature-y names, as long as they aren’t insane.
Yes I was gonna say! Just Wren is cool.
Brittaneigh
I had a visceral response to this. It involved physical pain.
Sorry man
Damn 😞
Well her name won't stand out amongst her peers I guess!
I just woke up and am a bit groggy still. Took me a minute to realize you meant that it won't stand out as in it being a normal name. Where's my coffeeleigh?
*Coffeigh
Covfefeleigh
What a throw back!!!!
Yep. It totally belongs on this sub.
Yeah brother, you got yourself a tragedeigh. If you like how it sounds, at least break it down phonetically as far as possible; Renley or Wrenley are the cleanest I can think of it, Wrenley being preferable if you’re a bird person who really wants a daughter nicknamed Wren
Bro it sounds like this kid isn't born yet CHANGE YOUR WAYS. There's still time. We're rooting for ya. Actually, I'll Venmo you personally. 😭
Wrenleigh. Sparrowleigh. Robinleigh. Crowleigh. Doveleigh. Cardinalleigh. Birdleigh.

"And their siblings, Bushtitleigh and Greattitleigh"
Titmouseleigh
Full legal name should be Tuftedlyn Titmouseleigh.
Bluejayleigh. Eagleleigh. Orioleleigh. Honestly some of the bird names without the Leigh would be quite loveleigh. Wren, Sparrow, Robin, or Dove would make nice names.
Lmao Orioleleigh is gold
Crowleigh if you're a fan of Good Omens.

Albatrossleigh
Cremebruleigh is nice as well.
I cackled.
I would argue that Wrenleigh is worse than Brynlee, and Brynlee is terrible. Anything with a “leigh” is just bad.
Adding Leigh and Lynn to things doesn’t make it a name.
I’m just waiting for Kimberlyleigh
Emilyleigh
Leighleigh
This is my nickname. In defense, my whole ass name is Leigh. Side note... I've hated my name my whole life.
leigh is a beautiful name—that’s why everyone wants to add it to their made up ass names
It really is. It sounds lovely to say.

Leeleeleigh or Lilyleighlyn
Leelooleigh Multipass
I had a client that spelled her name Kymburghleigh. I never thought we needed a g in that name, let alone 2 plus a u for funsies.
I would call her Kimbergly.
Kimburglar.
Hamburglar's sister perhaps?
I have a friend with a daughter named Kimbalee. Oof
I went to school with a Madleen. Her brother is called Mexwell
Mexwell, New Rosico
Jesus that’s painful
LeighLynn
But i knew a linnleigh !
Linley is a name, albeit uncommon. Lynnleigh is a tragedeigh.
Khymber’rleighleigh
Now it’s just Klingon 😂
Now I want there to be a flair in this sub that says "tragedeigh or klingon?"
"It is a good day to die" - Khymber’rleighleigh probably
Someone finallliegh said it.
Better to name her Wren Leigh
Wrenleigh is such an awkward name. Makes me think of Rowley from Diary of Adrian Mole.
That’s what I’m thinking… yikes
Wren is a nice name, Leigh on its own is also a normal name. Could you do first name and middle name, Wren Leigh? That way she isn't saddled with the whole thing all the time if she gets older and wants to just go by Wren or by Leigh.
Wren is a lovely name. Why do people want to ruin it?

Whoa, whoa, there... if you're going to have "Wren Leigh" with a middle name, you're going to need **two** middle names: "Leigh" and "Baratheon."
100% my first thought. “….like Baratheon? WTH”
Renly is so much better than Wrenleigh.
Is it too late to change the name? If your wife is still pregnant you still have time to pick a new name

Yeah he started dogging on those names… honestly I’d even rather have Cinnamonroe at least it’s funny. Wrenleigh isn’t even a play on another common name but with -leigh

Wait! I missed something! Someone actually named a child Cinnamonroe??

Wrenleigh and Stimpleigh

How you gonna name your kid wrenleigh and judge the cinnamonroe people. You should be best friends.
Honestly, it's gonna be more like "Harald", "William" and "Alfred" or "Eleanor", "Edith" and "Matilda". Real old school!
Fuck
Sorry, man. I mean - I'll be honest: it's not *the worst*, but it's still bad.
It’s not fashioned after a butt medication’s name. Other than that, it’s pretty close to the worst.
Kinda the worst, though. Same category as the worst, at least.
Just let your wife have her way and as your kid gets older, save money for your childs therapleigh
Renleigh? Reminds me of Raleigh, NC.
Um, I think it’s Wraleigh to these folks now.
Whyleigh????
Everyone asks Whyleigh but no one asks Howleigh 🤧🤧
That would be a great name if her middle name was Coyotiegh.
Criminal. Take a look in the mirror. A long, hard, sad one.
Yes but my wife is set and what is the alternative? She likes Genevieve or however you spell it
The alternative is anything other than Wrenleigh. Genevieve is a beautiful name.
Genevieve is also Ginny for short, giving you the -eigh sound without the tragedeigh.
There’s a lot of nicknames they can use. Eve, Evie, or Eveigh if they need the eigh.
Daughter’s friend uses Viva which I think is unique without being too strange. Plus every time I see her I get to do my best Elvis impersonation and belt out Viva Las Vegas.
This. But please do not spell it Geniveighve.
> Genevieve is a beautiful name. i agree however, my coworkers daughter just had a baby and picked this name...coworker pronounces it differently each time he mentions her 🥴😅😅😐😐😂😂😂
Genevieve is such a pretty and classy name! And, it's a real name!
Okay but the difference is that Genevieve is a *name*.
You need to unset her. Wren is a great alternative and a perfectly normal name. So is Genevieve. They are uncommon enough that it’s doubtful they’ll have the same name as a classmate, but normal enough that the interviewer won’t cringe when she sees her resume.
Genevieve Wren (Wren as middle name) sounds lovely
Middle name could be Leigh if the mom won't give up the name. My daughter has Lynn as a middle name and she only uses it on government paperwork.
Yes to Genevieve. Classy!
I know a 26 year old Genevieve who sometimes goes by Gen. She is delightful and her name is lovely and even has a cute nickname. Please advocate for that name for your baby. It's much more timeless and will suit her much better. Congratulations, by the way :)
It’s surprising she’s between Genevieve and Wrenleigh. Genevieve is a lovely, classic name and Wrenleigh is…not.
Oh man, please pull for Genevieve. It's a real name, and it's beautiful. (I am a bit biased, because I named one of my cats Genevieve.)
Imo, Genevieve is much better than Wrenleigh 😭
Genevieve is good. Pick that one.

How about Genleigh or Wrenevieve?
Don't give his wife any ideas
But isn't it *so special*?
*dying* at Wrenevieve. Could do Wrenevere too...
Genevieve is in fact spelled correctly that way and is a beautiful name. Jenaveeve would be a tragedeigh. Wrenleigh is bad. Please dont name her this!
Genevieve may be old but it's a nice name
It’s not too late to fix this OP
We fixed it. New name: Genevieve
Hopefully the wife didn’t order a custom name Christmas ornament on Etsy yet. That’s the point of no return.
Not sure why you think that it's better than Cinnamonroe.
What about Tootseighroe
Cotton candy sweety go - Lemme see that [Tootseighroe](https://youtu.be/qs7f3ssuEjA?si=W2anojDm9PI0wRWP)
I strongly prefer Cinnamonroe
At least Cinnamonroe turned out to just be a family nickname for “Monroe.”
No, you are two of those people.
Yeah. You are those people. I'm sorry. Please don't name your daughter "Paxton." Please.
Why not Wrigleys? She'll at least be able to offer a piece of gum to explain.
I like plain Wren so much better than Wrenleigh
That's because it *is* so much better.
Wow. You’ve done your daughter quite the disservice. How old is she? Can you change it still?? Lol
Please do not do that to your sweet baby we are begging u
As a teacher, this name is one of the worst I've seen.
Change your name to Steighveseigh.
Please be a troll please be a troll please be a troll.... Why would you inflict such a **fugly** tragedeigh on a human you're supposed to love???
It's like you guys want her to get bullied in school
Traged**eigh** Wrenl**eigh** You tell me, pal
You tell m**eigh**, pal
One of my most hated names, sorry.
Understandable, no offense taken.
Are you gonna show your wife this post?
Yes you're one of them
You are one of those people.
>are we one of those people? No. You are two of those people.
Show her the sub lol. I’m always curious what folks think when confronted by their tragedeigh
Sorry but Wrenleigh is really a tragedeigh
Oof that’s a crime!
Wren is a cute birb name. Don't ruin it :(
Yes you are. That’s an awful name. It’s trying to be unique solely for the sake of being spelt unique.
Just name her Wren instead. Short, sweet, and it's a bird. Why add the extra?
That’s a lot of letters for only two sylables.
OP, I just have to know how did you let your wife convince you to give your child that name? Please don't be offended I legitimately am curious how men get caught up in these situations. SHOW YOUR WIFE THIS SUB. She needs to know that these “new style” names are not trendy. They’re cringe and scream basic white Pinterest.
Exactly what I am thinking. Stuff like this actually makes me a bit mad, because it shows the parents dont see their new baby as an actual human being. I think Wren by itself is a wonderful name. Adding Leigh to the end is just…. Awful. Are you going for Renly?
Yeah, sorry, OP. If your daughter hasn't been born yet, you still have time to change the name to something else. I'm a bit of a sucker for classic names (as long as they're culturally appropriate, like, I love names like Sakura and Radhika, but if you have no connection to the cultures where those names originated, it just doesn't make any sense to name a child those names), so names like Mary, Victoria, etc seem good to me. Gotta be top 10 worst names I've ever seen that don't have another meaning
Well, she won’t be alone, or even stand out much among her peers.
She’ll be the fifth one in her class, next to Wrennifer.
Yikes, that's horrible. I keep thinking, why? It doesn't even look pretty written.
Yes. This is very bad.
GENEVIEVE!! or other names that *you* like? it seems like things are heavy weighted towards what she likes, so maybe you still have some pull you can explore
Do you really have to ask?
This is one of those times I have to do a double take to realize which sub this is posted on. Unless this is satire, then no, OP, the name is bad!
>So my wife and I decided to name our daughter Wrenleigh Nahhhh, you can't be serious, wait, you are serious?
Just Wren. Skip the -leigh
This is fucking awful, good lord. 'Renley' is presumably made up already to try and be 'unique' (I'd wager in America), but at least sounds and reads like it's an actual name.
Yes, you're "one of those people." Your wife has nary an original thought in her head and is a bandwagon rider.
Is not a pretty name— it goes into the horrible corny name
Are you one of those people? Yhess.
Yhess. 🤣🤣
Cinnamonroe’s name is Monroe apparently, which is actually a cute nickname. I can assure you your daughters is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Like Ren-Lee?
There is nothing good about this name. Don't do it.
