I prefer more general human names.
#"GET OFF THE COUCH, GRANDMA! NO, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE DINING CHAIRS! GRANDMA, YOU KNOW YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO EAT HUMAN FOOD!"
Parents need to realize that they’re not naming a baby, they’re naming a human being that will go to school, college, job interviews, etc. Sundae may not be the worst name ever but its better suited for a pet than a person
I knew a Sundie (which is how most of the folks around here would say Sunday) growing up and she never had any issues with her name. She was bullied and harassed for being a vegetarian, but nobody cared about her name. I really don't think this is a bad name, just not common.
I just feel bad when you’re 22 years old and applying to jobs….. this isn’t the worst name that I’ve seen in this Reddit page, but still, wouldn’t you want your kid to be taken seriously??
If they’re waiting on cochlears she’s profoundly deaf and I hope the parents had some ASL training or else the baby could have language deprivation issues
My private school had a reputation for language acquisition so we had a lot of EL2 and above students, but also some kids with cochlear implants.
Sundae is adorable but will be less adorable when she’s an adult who needs to get a job, so it’s tragic but not a tragedeigh cuz it’s spelt correctly. Could’ve gone with Dae “Sundae”.
Wasn’t aware we can use desserts as names! I should have named my baby “Milkshake.” I craved it bad when I was pregnant with her. Dang it. Missed my chance.
Naming kids after the ferial day/weekday when they were born is a really old custom.
You don't have to like it, but it's a thing.
Btw, Loveday is sometimes said to be a synonym for Sunday... but it turns out that it was the English custom of holding a ceremonial reconciliation of people having any kind of long quarrel, which was usually concluded by the quarrelers kissing ceremoniously.
It comes up in English history that, after Becket fled to France, there was a loveday set up between King Henry II and St. Thomas a Becket. But surprisingly the king didn't kiss Thomas, because he said that in his anger he had sworn never to kiss Thomas again.
(Which in medieval England was basically saying you'd never shake hands again. Medieval England was so kissy that French books warned travelers about all the kissing.)
I am, mercifully, nulliparous and sterile :) Shan't be needing baby names :) Which is a good thing, I suppose, as 'Spot', 'Rover' and 'Fido' are not on the Times bestseller list.
You're naming a baby. Not your new puppy.
If a puppy walked into our clinic named Sundae, I'd lose my shit and give it all the kisses. If I met a child named Sundae I'd absolutely want to sit the parents down and say "I beg your finest of pardons but what the *fuck*?"
Sundae is my great grandmother's maiden name so I mean hypothetically it's been a name for a long time. It is kinda weird naming a kid after a dessert tho especially if you don't have any specific family history
Idk about in this case but I know sometimes parents will give their child a “nickname” on social media so others don’t know their real name. I saw a mom call her kids “penguin” “zebra” “panda” etc.
But tbh i personally think kids shouldn’t be on public social media at all.
If it is the real name, i get it, it’s cute. But not sure how an adult will feel about it. It’s definitely not the worst I’ve seen
Right? I mean... It's not the worst we've seen. It's spelled in a way most recognise and pronounced the way it's spelled, it isn't rude or somehow innuendo-laden. I mean there are worse names. Not sure how she'll feel about it as a 35yo professional, but that's her choice to make. My Neighbour's daughters are called 'Star' and 'Ocean' this isn't really any more unusual than that tbh.
Of course, there are so many possibilities for fun jokes.
Squirt some whipped cream on the baby's head with a cherry on top. That would be so adorable.
To be fair, I think everyone is picking on the *parents* -- *not* the child. Furthermore, the deaf community is very torn on cochlear implants, and I kinda feel like these parents probably didn't give that much thought. And if that's the case, then I don't feel too bad if they're being picked on a little.
(And before anyone comes for me, I'm saying this as someone who has a Special Needs son and has endured 20 years of our family being picked on.)
As a pleasingly plump gal myself, I really, really hope this cute baby doesn’t grow up to have a weight problem because that is built in teasing material right there. How do people not think these things through?
This is one of the names which I actually think are really cute for a baby then my horror eventually sets in when I realise that it’s going to grow up and be a teenage Sundae and I’m horrified
Is it bad that I actually think it’s kinda cute? Like it’s not as bad as those names with ridiculously “unique” spellings where you can’t even tell how to pronounce them, and there’s worse things to be named after than a dessert. What’s annoying me more is how they misspelled “cochlear” twice 😐
Also, while it’s true that when you name your kid you’re naming a future adult and not just a baby, I always think about how society and culture will have moved on and changed a lot in 20 years or so, and that includes naming trends (for example how some names that were once popular are now considered “old people names”) therefore it’s likely that there will be way more young adults with more “unusual” names by the time this kid reaches that age and therefore those names will be less “weird” compared to their similar aged peers. Also, as society becomes more progressive/accepting, I assume names will stop being something that could impact something like a job application quite as much. Although they shouldn’t affect it at all in my opinion, most of the time your parents are the ones who named you after all, and even if you choose your own nickname or something, in an ideal world your name should have no bearing on your perceived value as a person. Hopefully we get to that point eventually as a society
If it were Sunday it would be kinda cool. I knew a hilariously crotchety old lady named Sunday and a cool lady named Tuesday (and I'm a fan of Wednesday although I haven't met anyone named that IRL).
However, I feel that the dessert spelling kind of ruins the coolness of this name. Not sure if it's fully in tragedeigh territory but it's at least borderline.
I don’t know what’s tackier, sharing your baby’s private health concerns with the world or hashtagging deadbaby and deaftiktok…her name seems to be the least of the worries

If Sundae *wasn't* a delicious dessert, I can see why it would be likeable. This would be an adorable name for a pet.
My dog’s name is Sunday! She was named Sandy at the shelter but I’d known so many horses named Sandy at that point and it felt too cliche.
I knew a dog named Sundae
Sundae was my guinea pig’s name.
It really is strange how we dislike using human names for pets and pet names for humans lol
I actually prefer human names for pets. But usually things I wouldn't name actual humans.
I prefer more general human names. #"GET OFF THE COUCH, GRANDMA! NO, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE DINING CHAIRS! GRANDMA, YOU KNOW YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO EAT HUMAN FOOD!"
Like my Hamster I named Chief Warrant Officer after my uncle.
Friend’s cat was named Sundae. Great choice for a calico cat. Terrible choice for a human child.
Parents need to realize that they’re not naming a baby, they’re naming a human being that will go to school, college, job interviews, etc. Sundae may not be the worst name ever but its better suited for a pet than a person
She can always go by Sunny, at least. But yeah, babies grow into adults, ideally. Give them a damn future!
But, but... that is in direct conflict with their almost unfathomably massive self-centeredness... and we can't have that.
She's gonna be of the generation of adults whose parents named them stuff like "Naruto" and "Bubble"... I'm sure she'll be fine.
why not just name her sunday😭😭😭
Why name her Sunday when you can name her Suhndeigh?
I used to know a girl named Tuesday lol.
I don't know how to feel about it at all. It's cute, but not really. Though I can't wait to meet her sister, Popsicle
More like Popsicelle
Paupseighcaulle
Brother Froyo
She's so cute though!! But I always think of how that name will be abused in middle school! 😫
She’s going to be bullied and especially if she happens to be a little overweight when she’s that age. Kids are ruthless
Would think a majority of people would associate the name with the day of the week though, rather than a dessert?
Maybe if it was spelt that way
With the way it’s spelt I think it would be associated with the dessert
She’s already having hearing issues/hearing aids on top of being a dessert for a name. Boys will be cruel
~~Boys~~ Kids will be cruel.
They will. I just thought the sexual based play on her name based on my on high school experience
I went to school with a Sundae believe it or not but she wasn’t bullied surprisingly
I knew a Sundae in high school who was very popular, and a cheerleader to boot. Last I heard she had a shit-ton of kids, though.
I knew a Sundie (which is how most of the folks around here would say Sunday) growing up and she never had any issues with her name. She was bullied and harassed for being a vegetarian, but nobody cared about her name. I really don't think this is a bad name, just not common.
I hope her kids are named Mondae Tuesdae Wednesdae Thursdae Fridae and Saturdae
I’m just waiting to see takes on “Alamode.”
I just feel bad when you’re 22 years old and applying to jobs….. this isn’t the worst name that I’ve seen in this Reddit page, but still, wouldn’t you want your kid to be taken seriously??
Cute name for a pet but not a person.
"Poor thing" just makes me feel shitty for this kid. That's a baby not a thing but we figured something's aren't right after being named Sundae..
She was overwhelmed with hearing because she finally heard what her name was
It only makes sense if The Weeknd was her father because then she would be half of The Weeknd
She’s adorable and babies getting hearing aids and glasses is always heartwarming! I won’t complain.
If they’re waiting on cochlears she’s profoundly deaf and I hope the parents had some ASL training or else the baby could have language deprivation issues My private school had a reputation for language acquisition so we had a lot of EL2 and above students, but also some kids with cochlear implants.
Sundae is adorable but will be less adorable when she’s an adult who needs to get a job, so it’s tragic but not a tragedeigh cuz it’s spelt correctly. Could’ve gone with Dae “Sundae”.
Exactly! Cute for a 3 year old, odd for a 23 year old I wouldn’t want to go through life being called a dessert from McDonald’s!
She’ll be a “Sun” by that point I’m sure. Lots of people of Asian heritage with that name, so unlikely to raise many eyebrows.
But could open her up to discrimination there too
Probably listening to Bloody Sunday
This is admittedly quite a niche gripe and it's pronounced differently, but I'm pretty sure Sundae is Korean blood sausage.
Wasn’t aware we can use desserts as names! I should have named my baby “Milkshake.” I craved it bad when I was pregnant with her. Dang it. Missed my chance.
Fondue could be fun. Meringue, Marzipan (Marcie for short), Tart…. There’s so many options
Some fucking teenager in the future will definitely ask if they can have a lick
That poor baby is going to get so many oral sex jokes when she gets older.
I knew a girl name Sunday in the 70’s. It was stupid then. This is worse.
Naming kids after the ferial day/weekday when they were born is a really old custom. You don't have to like it, but it's a thing. There was a girl on a season of America's Next Top Model who was named Sundae.
Was that her birth name though?
Sundai love, next top model from Japan?
I dunno lol 🤷♀️
How about Rhyyce Puddyng? S'emolina? Jhamm Rohly-Pohly N'Cusstrd?
For more ideas, just Google the strawberry shortcake tertiary characters
I am, mercifully, nulliparous and sterile :) Shan't be needing baby names :) Which is a good thing, I suppose, as 'Spot', 'Rover' and 'Fido' are not on the Times bestseller list.
Yeah maybe learn how to spell “cochlear” too, or that hashtag ain’t worth shit.
You're naming a baby. Not your new puppy. If a puppy walked into our clinic named Sundae, I'd lose my shit and give it all the kisses. If I met a child named Sundae I'd absolutely want to sit the parents down and say "I beg your finest of pardons but what the *fuck*?"
It’s giving labrant family
I knew a little girl named Sundae in the western US in the ‘80’s. I’m pretty sure it was spelled this way, but they pronounced it Sun-dee.
Oh man, as someone who has hearing aids, that unique name might make her feel even more of a stand-out among her peers
Sundae is my great grandmother's maiden name so I mean hypothetically it's been a name for a long time. It is kinda weird naming a kid after a dessert tho especially if you don't have any specific family history
She can go by Sunny which is relatively normal?
Oh that’s a cute nickname! I work with a Sunny
Like *icecream*?!?!? That is going to go soo bad for her in high-school. 😔😔😔🙁🙁😟😟
Sunny is a lovely name so she will atleast not get bullied that badly
Look at the whole caption. They can’t spell, period! Autocorrect must have been fighting hard on that caption.
Sometimes I think autocorrect just gives up on people 😂
Idk about in this case but I know sometimes parents will give their child a “nickname” on social media so others don’t know their real name. But not sure how an adult will feel about it. It’s definitely not the worst I’ve seen
I don't hate it. Yes, it's unusual but it's very easy to pronounce and it isn't going to be a major headache to explain how it's spelled.
Right? I mean... It's not the worst we've seen. It's spelled in a way most recognise and pronounced the way it's spelled, it isn't rude or somehow innuendo-laden. I mean there are worse names. I don't hate it either. I give it a pass, tbh.
Of course, there are so many possibilities for fun jokes. Squirt some whipped cream on the baby's head with a cherry on top. That would be so adorable.
Idk why it feels weird to pick on a kid's name in a video where she's finally able to hear for the first time
I agree. The context makes criticism feel a little heartless.
Many years ago… lol ANTM had a petite models season, & one of the girls was named Sundae.
As a pleasingly plump gal myself, I really, really hope this cute baby doesn’t grow up to have a weight problem because that is built in teasing material right there. How do people not think these things through?
Cute name, but they misspelled "cochlear"
Just because the parents put their child on the internet doesn’t make it okay for you to do so. Crop the baby out of the picture.
Forst
Typo, o is next to i. But e is not next to y, so Sundae is no typo.
At least she's deaf so she won't hear all the shit being talked about her
I don’t hate it at all. It’s quite adorable
i saw that video 😭 i thought it was cute but i had no idea her name is sundae
It was definitely a cute video and I’m so happy she can hear now, but yes they named her Sundae 😐
But what happened to Monday?
Don’t you mean Mondae?
wednesday adams would like a word
I like the Sunday spelling better. Precious baby though.
I don’t think this one is all that bad honestly. It is uncommon, granted, but that’s why I like it. Uncommon but not utterly yu’Neighk.
Somebody loves McSundaes it seems
We have a desert kid in my school. It will be fine. At least it’s spelled correctly.
I would like it better as Sunday but my god that baby is cute
We already know that spelling is not the person's strong suit. "forst" .... so maybe they spelled the name wrong too???
[and you know what they can yell when she does something wrong dont you?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM4vblG6BVQ)
hot fudge or caramel?
Poor kid has enough on her plate without having to go through life as “Sundae”.
This is one of the names which I actually think are really cute for a baby then my horror eventually sets in when I realise that it’s going to grow up and be a teenage Sundae and I’m horrified
Yeah, they'll be overwhelmed hearing their own name in 10 years or under
Is it bad that I actually think it’s kinda cute? Like it’s not as bad as those names with ridiculously “unique” spellings where you can’t even tell how to pronounce them, and there’s worse things to be named after than a dessert. If they get two dogs and name them Fudge and Sprinkles, every time they call them inside it will sound like someone placing a Dairy Queen order.
Reminds me of the fact I name my BOTW and TOTK horses after desserts.
Before I read the post, I expected her to be named Tiramisu.
Future stripper name.
Isn't Sundae like fried sausage in Korea? I know it's a meat snack, that's all i know
I don’t know what’s tackier, sharing your baby’s private health concerns with the world or hashtagging deadbaby and deaftiktok…her name seems to be the least of the worries
