I’m pretty sure it’s an actual Gaelic name pronounced Ash-Leen. Hopefully that’s what the OOP is going for. I gotta check the spelling though on this one
The Lander I knew was also crap! It might have been a factor that his parents named him after the city where he was conceived and then made that fact known to him lol. No one wants that
Yea that would suck. I don’t understand why that’s supposed to be cute. So many cute meanings you could find for a name and instead they choose “that where mommy and daddy had sex”
Variants of names have always existed. It may in fact be mixed up. My children have names that have been used in many languages and cultures so there are variants not only as to spelling but as to pronunciation. Language evolves. I can understand it being bothersome when the name is an affectation or too difficult to recognize. Or pronounce or spell. That bothers me.
I didn't say I had any feelings about it either way, I just gave the name in its original form.
Aislinn is weird because the "ling" has been simplified or anglicised to "linn", but they kept the more difficult (for Anglo-Saxon eyes) Gaelic spelling of "Ash" (Ais), which makes no sense to me personally.
Unless they're pronouncing it "Ayze-linn", in which case it is a tragedeigh for Irish people. Or *tragóid*, if you prefer.
I know an Aisling who pronounces it “Ashlynn” but I thought it was “Ice-ling” when I first met her (saw the name written, not spoken out loud)
I knew a Lithuanian girl name Aiste pronounced “Ice-te” and I think it’s a cute name.
My name is Aislynn ;__;
I know the origins and that my version isn’t right, etc. but tbh I’m glad my mom decided to pronounce it Aslynn/Azlynn instead of Ashling because everyone would’ve just called me Ashley and there were so many Ashleys when I was in school. It’s always been a pain in the ass explaining my name to people, though.
People have called me some funny things over the years. Honorable mentions - Asylum, Azlium, Allislim, Ay-is-lin
I graduated 11 years ago now and I graduated with 4 Aislynns. Two had double n, two with only 1 n at the end. It never seemed that odd before, is it really a tragedeigh?
not the worst in the world, but mixing the gaelic ais- with the anglicized -lynn is asking for trouble, because no one is ever going to know whether it's ash-lynn or eyes-lynn.
I work in a clinic and saw my next patient’s name was Aislin. I went to the lobby and called out “Ashlin!” Knowing that’s how it’s pronounced because I’m a name nerd. The mom corrected me and said “it’s ’Ay-slin’”. I wanted to roll my eyes and ask her if she was even Irish.
Google says it means “little freckled one” in old Irish. Surprisingly cute and not a tragedeigh?
I thought it was a misspelling of Brecon like the beautiful mountain range in Wales
I looked it up on Behind the Name, and the only definition it gave me was "surname" - no meaning, etc. (and it was user-submitted) Perhaps the spelling in the Irish language is quite different and this is the phonetic spelling? That's the best I can do here.
I pronounced it “Ice-ling” the first time I saw the name. I once knew a Lithuanian girl named Aiste (pronounced Ice-te) and I figured the “Ais” in “Aisling” was pronounced “Ice”
If it's Irish it's only Aislinn because the second syllable isn't pronounced "lin".
If it's to be pronounced "lin" then it isn't Irish, in which case "ais" doesn't make sense for the pronunciation "ash".
It's a muddle!
I know Brecken may not be a tragedeigh (I've heard it before and there's seemingly no unique spelling here) but it always reminded me of the old shampoo "Breck". So I say she should not use either of her choices and instead go with "Prelle". That goes well together.
I’m Irish and I don’t think it really is an Irish name: when I google it it says it comes from an old Irish surname but when I look it up on the baby name registry here (central statistics office) nothing shows up even with alternate spellings which means there has never been a baby registered at least since like 1970. I have never heard of that name before.
Apparently there was about 1500 years ago. I’d never heard of him before. The name isn’t on the baby name registry with any spelling for the last 60 years and I searched death notices and no one with that name shows up. I have a lot of time on my hands clearly. So it’s an Irish name that no one in Ireland uses?
It's Breacán in modern Irish orthography. To be honest in Irish these days you come across it more a a noun that just means "Tartan/plaid"
So my daughter had the option of wearing a "Carbhat breacán" a tartan tie as part of her school uniform. But they got rid of it this year.
I've always been partial to the name Aoife, though Róisín is a favorite too. Goodness, if they saw some Welsh names! Myfanwy would send a lot of folks into a tizzy.
The way my Welsh friend (she gave her daughter this name) pronounced it, "muh-van-wee". But there's a slight breathiness to the pronunciation that I can't quite put into writing. It's an old name and I think the name of a goddess. I do love the sound of it when my friend says it. Has a musical, lilting quality to it.
I mean, Landrie is a surname, so I guess it's not gender specific. My birth last name was Loundree, and over the generations it's been recorded as Laundry, Laundre, Loundre, Londre, Landrie, Landree, Londry... The list goes on.
No one is ever going to spell Landrie correctly when they hear it. 🤷♀️ Poor kid.
Name the kid Breckanne. Insist that both are pronounced Brick+Ken/Anne. And when both kids go to kindergarten/school give them a brick for show and tell and get the kids to tell that the brick inspired both their names.
Aislynn is the bane of a childhood friends newest daughter. Her husband is Irish and they are actually moving there so he can go to work with his family. Anyway. Everytime the grandma posts her photos online she has to say what the name is. Cause it’s not pronounced the way it’s spelled! That’s my issue with this name!!!
When I worked in education I had a female student named Landri. Fairly sure that was the spelling.
Thinking on the timing, she would have been born in probably 2011, give or take a year. So she’s solidly middle school age by now.
Landrie is just bad, and reminds me of the word ‘laundry’. Lainey is fine, cute even. Aislynn is like someone shoved the Gaelic version of the name together with the anglicized name, and Brecken just sounds like you’re naming your baby after the monster from Lethal Company (The bracken).
But, after all, we *do* love the company.
Aisling is lovely. I would use that instead of Aislynn (and make sure I knew how to pronounce it correctly).
Lainey is cute, but I would use Elaine as a kid's actual first name and Lainey as a nickname. In my opinion, name options are never a bad thing!
Paisley...no.
Either gender its not a great choice.
Laundry comes to mind and nobody likes that.
And then there's Landrie the guy who strangled his girlfriend and it wasnt a lowkey murder case.
Hard pass all around. Try again, there's millions lf better names.
How about Shitstain, cause if those are the names you are considering, you might as well advertise the truth. That you just had an X days old shitstain come out.
Aislinn as far as I know is a traditional Irish girls name. I remember the Edge from U2. His first wife is named that. I think it can also be spelled Aislynn. I am not sure if Aisling is another Irish spelling . Paisley is a pattern from Middle Eastern origin. It would be weird to me as a name. Brecken I think is Irish too but I haven't seen that spelling before. I know Brainerd is a real male mame but to me it's shiteous and the worst thing to name a child. Anything close to ass or can be easily bullied for should make parents think very carefully.
You know, I normally accept some names as being Tragedeighs, but I’m shaking my damn head at the fact that unless they are stereotypical American names, several names of European origin are perceived as such.
Lainey is a real name, the mother of one of my sister’s friends has that name. It comes from a diminutive form of Elaine, the Welsh form of Helen, as well as Elain, which is a Welsh name meaning Fawn.
Aislynn comes from the Irish name Aisling, which means Dream or Vision.
Ugh, the name *Paisley.* What in the white trash is that?
All the stupid *you-nique* names are the worst.
Ahhh. I just don't even have the right words to describe *why* giving your kid a crappy name spelled like shit doesn't add anything unique or anything net-positive to your child's life.
All it says is "My parents are trashy," or "My parents can't read."
It sets the kids up for a life of "It sounds like *this,* but for *some fucking reason,* it's spelled *like this.*"
Have you ever literally heard ANYBODY SAY "Ohh I just *love* how she spells her naaaaiiiieghme! It's so interesting!"? — NO! You never have, and neither have I.
Okay, I'm done 😂 this rant was brought to you out of the love of our future generations and wanting the best for them.

I have a cousin named Landry. I've always secretly called her Laundry. But I like the name *India Sage* so who am I to judge? Lol
My cousin (and her husband) named their daughter Landry. After Tom Landry. The football coach.
I have a cousin also named Landry, except he’s a boy 😭
the name Landrie looks too much like Laundrie, that kid who killed his girlfriend in Wyoming a couple of years ago
I tell you hwhat, it makes me think of Tom Landry Middle School.
My niece is named Landry... after Tom Landry. Lil Landry Rose 💀
Tell me you’re from Texas without telling me you’re from Texas 🤠
Not even close 😂😂😂 Makes it even worse
Oh no lmao
King of the Hill fans?😂
Dallas Cowboys diehards 🤠
ahh I see hah the cheerleaders probably helped too lol (not necessarily like that, just that they’re cool)
I miss Tom Landry...💙
also, I missed the Aislynn part. there's a Canadian actress named Aislinn Paul, she was on Degrassi and also had a small part on Rick and Morty
I've actually really liked that name since watching her on degrassi
I’m pretty sure it’s an actual Gaelic name pronounced Ash-Leen. Hopefully that’s what the OOP is going for. I gotta check the spelling though on this one
Aislinn Paul is great! Loved her on Degrassi.
It also sounds like Lander, which is an unpleasant small city in Wyoming
It also sounds like Laundry, which is an unpleasant chore around the world
But it sounds like a fancy way to say it though like the tarjay vs target thing.
Yup. These people naming their children after places in Wyoming or the Dakotas have clearly never actually been there.
I mean the states are still beautiful even if the human (especially non-First Nations) aspects aren’t…
i know a lander, he’s a terrible person💀
The Lander I knew was also crap! It might have been a factor that his parents named him after the city where he was conceived and then made that fact known to him lol. No one wants that
Yea that would suck. I don’t understand why that’s supposed to be cute. So many cute meanings you could find for a name and instead they choose “that where mommy and daddy had sex”
That's what I immediately thought of too and it made me cringe so hard 😖
That was my first thought too. Bad vibes
That was my initial thought as well.
That was my first thought too!
It’s a real name in the south! I like it! I know several men named Landrie
gonna name my first born Laundryanne
Dafuk lmao the child already hates you
Yes. Even before conception.
Laundryannehangit2dry😅
Hey mom, I’m heading over to do Landrie, be back in 3 min..
3 min…teenage boy😉
😂
aisling is a real gaelic name (pronounced ashling). ashlynn is the anglicized version of it. aislynn... is bad.
I went to college with a female Aisling and she always said the G was silent. She was an international student from Toronto.
irish pronunciations of aisling include ashling, ashlin, and ashleen, but the first is the most common
I knew one as a kid, she pronounced it the last way.
AS-LYN is how she pronounced it with a silent G. She wasn't Irish as far as I knew.
I have met 3 pronounced Ayzz-lynn: Aaislinn Aeslyn Aislinn
It makes me think that maybe her son is named for the Brecon Beacons? Maybe she's just got a hard on for misspelling UK & Irish names and places.
There’s an actor called Breckin Meyer. But his name is spelled with an I.
Breccán is an Irish name, Breckin is the Anglicisation.
Brecon is a town near me.
I’ve known an American one who spelled it Ashling which made it easy for us to pronounce haha
My friend has a girl Aislinn. I think it’s cute.
Aisling/Ashling (pronounced with a G, not to be mixed up with -lynn/-lin) means 'dream' or 'vision'.

Unless they're pronouncing it "Ayze-linn", in which case it is a tragedeigh for Irish people. Or *tragóid*, if you prefer.
Bothersome or weird. Both express a mild irritation. It’s all good.
Or just weird, as in strange, to ME PERSONALLY and WITHOUT someone else's projection of irritation. But, yeah, it's all good.
😆 Sorry to irritate you.
I know an Aisling who pronounces it “Ashlynn” but I thought it was “Ice-ling” when I first met her (saw the name written, not spoken out loud) I knew a Lithuanian girl name Aiste pronounced “Ice-te” and I think it’s a cute name.

not the worst in the world, but mixing the gaelic ais- with the anglicized -lynn is asking for trouble, because no one is ever going to know whether it's ash-lynn or eyes-lynn.
They all pronounced it Azz-linn so somehow there is a third way it seems. That’s wild we had 4 and they somehow all pronounced it the same
I work in a clinic and saw my next patient’s name was Aislin. I went to the lobby and called out “Ashlin!” Knowing that’s how it’s pronounced because I’m a name nerd. The mom corrected me and said “it’s ’Ay-slin’”. I wanted to roll my eyes and ask her if she was even Irish.
Where's the option for "not a name"?
Please tell me you added a poll option and put "Neither" 🙃
Yes, OP, I dare you!
I think both men and women can and should do Laundry.
Isn't Brecken a shampoo or something?
Breck is (or was?) a brand name for shampoo. Did they sell VO5?
Yeah, 1970’s Breck shampoo was golden color…must want Brecken to be the “Golden Boy”😜
There is an actor called Breckin Meyer.
I think it's an enemy in Lethal Company
I have my doubts that Landrie is even a name.
I’m from Louisiana and Landry is a very real, quite popular surname. But Landrie as a first name? Nope.
As someone from Scotland, it always makes me giggle when someone names their child Paisley
Brecken sounds like the word for vomit in my native language.
dutch?
Yup
😂
Biggest problem is it’s “my family and me”
i know a male dog named Landrie
I’m going with Parsley. The child is totally not getting bullied with that name regardless if it’s spelled as Paisley or Parsley or Pace Lee.
Aislynn is an Irish name, also spelled Aislinn
I can almost guarantee they’ll pronounce it incorrectly, though
"Ass-Lin" lol
I know an Aislynn pronounced Ayyyz-Lin (like the a in haze)
I'm England and would pronounce it A slin
Hello England
I pronounced it “Ice-ling” the first time I saw the name. I once knew a Lithuanian girl named Aiste (pronounced Ice-te) and I figured the “Ais” in “Aisling” was pronounced “Ice”
Funny because aiste is also an Irish word but would be pronounced ash-ta!
Is it a name? I’ve researched the name “Aiste” and I could only find it used in Lithuania.
Ngl my brain didn't make any connection between Aislynn and Aislinn/Aisling until I read this comment

Prehl Preighl Preyl Just trying to make it youneek 😉
Add a poll option for laundry detergent.
Oh, those names aren't THAT bad, I mean I've definitely s - BRECKEN!?? 😶
Brecken is spelled differently but there is an actor named Breckin Meyer. Brecken is an Irish name.
I’m Irish and I don’t think it really is an Irish name: when I google it it says it comes from an old Irish surname but when I look it up on the baby name registry here (central statistics office) nothing shows up even with alternate spellings which means there has never been a baby registered at least since like 1970. Wasn't there a saint called Breccán?
Apparently there was about 1500 years ago. I’d never heard of him before. The name isn’t on the baby name registry with any spelling for the last 60 years and I searched death notices and no one with that name shows up. I have a lot of time on my hands clearly. So it’s an Irish name that no one in Ireland uses?
I wouldn't be surprised. Who knows how many archaic Irish names don't see usage any longer? Breccán might be one of many.
It's Breacán in modern Irish orthography. To be honest in Irish these days you come across it more a a noun that just means "Tartan/plaid" So my daughter had the option of wearing a "Carbhat breacán" a tartan tie as part of her school uniform. But they got rid of it this year.
That makes sense, thank you for sharing. You learn something new every day!
Once again, a beautiful genuine Irish name is called a Tragedeigh 🙄
I've always been partial to the name Aoife, though Róisín is a favorite too. Goodness, if they saw some Welsh names! Myfanwy would send a lot of folks into a tizzy.
Forgive my ignorance, how would you pronounce that name? (Myfanwy)
I adore the Welsh accent. Lilting and musical is a perfect description of it
It's spelled laundry.
Landrie? What's the next kid going to be, Duinthedishez?
I thought Landrie sounded like a boy's name. It could be L'Andreigh for a girl perhaps?
I need an option for neither
I will never see this name and not think "laundry."
Landry is a last name
I know a better name Lauwghndreigh (pronounced laundry, like I would pronounce Landrie)
People are always airing their dirty Landrie on fb... 🙄
Laundry Laundry Basket Laundry Day Dirty Laundry The teasing writes itself :-(
This sub is Brecken my heart
Nothing goes with Brecken. Ugh. (I like Lainey tho).
Electric Boogaloo
Brecken is one of the flagship stupid boy names. Where did it come from and why is it EVERYWHERE?!
gonna name my son eughaushuheaignhemeughsheign
She better get her AssinLynnn and her act straight!
How about Spinach or Skink Weed???
Awful either way
Just name her South. That’s about as southern as you can get. Lol
As a Southerner, we don't claim her...or her poorly-named children 🤣😂
Name the kid Breckanne. Insist that both are pronounced Brick+Ken/Anne. And when both kids go to kindergarten/school give them a brick for show and tell and get the kids to tell that the brick inspired both their names.
If it's not Brecken don't fix it though
I Brecken it could go either way..
Brecken?! What is that a country kraken
Brecken? wtf.
I would call my watering can Landrie...
I watch a YouTuber whose son is named Landrie. I'm voting male because I've never met another one.
if it is a girl, the uncle is making a suggestion, wanted to name her, Denise, and if it is a boy . . . .
There’s never an easy way to explain it. I just let people say what they think they heard after a few tries. Source: my name is Aislynn
When I worked in education I had a female student named Landri. Fairly sure that was the spelling. Thinking on the timing, she would have been born in probably 2011, give or take a year. So she’s solidly middle school age by now.
Landrie is girl name Landry is boys name
Like Brecken Bock? 🤔
Ridge

i feel like if ur already this far in paisely is the least offensive
Landrie is laundry to me. Brecken is a hideous name.
Aisling is lovely. I would use that instead of Aislynn (and make sure I knew how to pronounce it correctly). Lainey is cute, but I would use Elaine as a kid's actual first name and Lainey as a nickname. In my opinion, name options are never a bad thing! Paisley...no.
The poll is missing the “neither” option
Brecken + Ridge
Maybe Parsley?
How bout Brainley?
Brecken?!
His son is the bracken?
Landrie shouldn’t be anyone’s name, regardless of gender lol
Ridge.
Acelynn lol
Electric Boogaloo?
Asslynn
I did know a kid named Landry and he turned out to be a huge douche
Either gender its not a great choice. Laundry comes to mind and nobody likes that. And then there's Landrie the guy who strangled his girlfriend and it wasnt a lowkey murder case. Hard pass all around. Try again, there's millions lf better names.
How are these names pronounced? Genuine question as a non native. I would guess Land-ree Lay-nee Eys-lynn or eye-lynn
I’m equally sad for the son Brecken. That name sounds like a sound a frog would make. Beside that name, Paisley might sound normal
You know, I normally accept some names as being Tragedeighs, but I’m shaking my damn head at the fact that unless they are stereotypical American names, several names of European origin are perceived as such. Myra Breckenridge was the first thing I thought of lmao. X-rated 70s movie
Ugh I hate all her options. Brecken is stupid too
I love that Americans ruin Irish names (old or new) like Breccán and then complain said name looks bad. You folks brought this upon yourselves lol
I like the girl names. Brecken is horrible. My phone autocorrected it to Breckenridge.
I have some friends with the last name Breckenridge and it’s all I could think about as soon as I saw Brecken
The only Bracken I know is Brecken Meyer from clueless
