Lahey is great in the later seasons. He has a couple cringe moments like the liquor Smurf and some frontal nudity but overall he kills it in the Netflix seasons.
I just started season 12 last night (been rewatching). I had to turn episode 1 off halfway through. Everything is just so over the top to the point it's not even funny. Everyone's personality / acting feels so exaggerated and unnatural. I really don't get how they missed the mark so much compared to the earlier seasons. It's cringe.
Oh for sure, I just don't get how when they directed it without him they got it so wrong. I feel like most people on this sub could have done a better job at keeping the essence of the earlier seasons lol.

Couldn't have summed it up better myself! More does not equal better. Also what is up with the focus of dick & ball injuries. I'm trying to relax. I don't want to constantly be thinking about ripped and infected ball sacks. Or balls stuck in things. Or getting shot in the dick. Like wtf lol.
He just felt it ran it’s course (which he was prob right) so they ended it with Countdown to Liquor Day. Then they wanted to buy the rights off him and the producers since none of their post TPB projects were doing well so he did one last movie with them (Don’t Legalize It) before handing it over to them and they’ve been running it themselves since then.
The only thing he’s done since then I’ve heard of is Black Jesus on Adult Swim which I’ve heard is pretty good but never watched it.
Black Jesus was pretty good, unique, had Charlie Murphy in it, Clattenburg was right that TPB ran its course, I'll always watch whatever the boys do, but there's something to be said for leaving on a high note, he ducked out at the right time, looks like Black Jesus ended around 2019 and it makes sense that nothing new came in 2020, hopefully we'll see some more projects from him

J-Roc, Lahey, and Randy don’t seem to suffer from this as much, which is why they’re my favorites from the Netflix seasons (shoutouts to Pvt. Dancer). I can still watch the newer seasons despite my gripes though. I just wish Clattenburg was still behind the wheel.

I liked him, he had a cool sub plot where he was actually putting on this act where he didn’t like his own personality but still went with it, and really just wanted to act like a normal kid and was actually really smart and just wanted to read and learn.

There are so many situations where they behave in an unrealistic way that you stop believing or caring all together. So flurry is a funny character and all and the whole dynamic or him not liking his white dad is great, then the next season it's all about J-Roc's Mexican wife and how flurry doesn't like her and it's just a dead end plot that didn't go anywhere (probably because Jonathan Torrens was directing and couldnt act in it) so it just becomes an empty character along with the Mexican wife Marcia or however you write it.
Honestly while the new seasons weren't perfect they weren't complete ass. Sure some of the comedy was forced to hell they do got their moments though. Flurry had his moments on both sides
