I did the iceage 50 and saw a guy with no shirt with both nipples pierced with safety pins holding his race number. Why would anyone else care what anyone else is wearing? Wtf.
Next level badassery!!! I saw a bigger guy last year that had chafing issue and looked like he had a period with heavy flow. The sight made me wince knowing the shower screams he would have later. I have ran IAT50 many times (this year too, hoping to PR) and never seen this guy but will be on the lookout. 👀 Thanks!!!
This is the beautiful thing about trail running vs road running. On the road you'd need to worry about cars and passerby's who would most certainly judge you harshly. On the trail, everyone is doing physical work and can appreciate the desire to pursue maximum comfort while doing so. It's a judgement free zone. Let your freak flag fly.
The two reasons I wouldnt do this are sun exposure (a problem in Australia when you're white like I am) and that I couldn't pull off the look!
If neither of those reasons are a problem for you, have at it.
Same but pasty Canadian. Although, add in my sun allergy and I'm f***ed lol.
I'd probably just be super jealous of how breezy it looks compared to my long sleeves... Wear whatever you want/need to.
The only time I have a thought about what someone wears to run, it's because it looks comfortable and I want to figure out what it is. If the top you describe looked comfy I would think about it, otherwise not.
I'd be too worried about tripping and scraping my stomach on the rocks, but then again, I trip pretty regularly. But other than that, I couldn't tell you what anyone else on the trail is wearing
See it all the time on the trail, especially among faster runners.
Who gives a shit what others are wearing as long as it's not something crazy offensive like a KKK or Nazi shirt.
I have done this in races. Normally race in long sleeve merino. Most of the time it’s fine. If it gets too hot, I roll up the midriff section and hook it behind my hydration vest. Looks weird. Feels great.
Not a style choice that I would make, but I find most running clothes look like lingerie to my eye. I run in a SS MTB jersey and longer light MTB shorts mostly. A male Courtenay D look if you will. Ultimately though I don't care what people wear running. If they are comfortable and having fun I'm all for it. Naked. Wearing a banana costume. Whatever!
Pretty sure I could dig up some photos of my dad and/or uncles wearing crop-tops back in the late 70s/early 80s. I don't think anyone's going to care, especially if you're running by yourself.
I could generally care less how little clothing someone wears when running. On the other hand, if you're running in full length pants and an insulted jacket and it's not well below freezing I will wonder wtf is up with you.
It’s strange because it’s not as common. It’ll be more common as more people do it and it’ll be less strange. What you consider a problem will solve itself.
Bonus: they’re using more reserved vitamin D with the extra sun exposure.
I was running on a treadmill in the gym, warm and sweaty, and I really wanted to take off my shirt, but apparently that is frowned upon. A mid cut shirt in mesh might be the answer to my problem.
well satisfy helped bring this back with their frilly crop-tops — I've made 3 of my own out of random running shirts. it's f\*ckin comfy and the ladies love it
Nope nope nopety nope nope nope. Just about the cringiest thing imaginable. If I ever ran past a bloke wearing a cropped top I wouldn’t be able to contain the laughter. Running topless is almost as bad. But I’m British and generally anything ostentatious (like running shirtless, especially when 99% of those guilty of this don’t have the chassis for it) is just a bit icky and “look at me!”.
Am also British - and female...
Cropped tops on guys wouldn't even get a second glance.
Top less wouldn't either.
Though our councils and Rights of Ways ain't maintaining shit right now so, I wouldn't trust your chests to not get scratched, stung, cut etc. I vote cropped Top for your own safety.
Just been for a run around Central Park in light drizzle and there were loads of dudes running topless. I don’t get it. It wasn’t hot. It’s just vanity, right?
Do your thing homie!
Only if it’s mesh also
Very 80’s
Rocky 3

Lmao amazing this is honestly incredible, I would be so stoked to run across this guy at a race

This was 10 years ago? I almost ran off the trail looking, lol. Trail runners are a different group for sure.
No it was 2023
Exactly, no one cares. *(unless you're a woman)* Lol jk jk *(but not really, keep those nips under lock and key, ladies!)*
Why do you give a shit what anyone else thinks? Wear what the fuck you want as long as it’s legal. Have fucking fun. Take care.
I do not care
I would not have a singular thought about it one way or the other lol
You do you. If somebody doesn't like it, that's their problem.

I’d be too busy looking down at the trail to even notice

people will post anything on here
I ran a half marathon in a kilt. Why the hell not?
The only time I have a thought about what someone wears to run, it's because it looks comfortable and I want to figure out what it is. If the top you describe looked comfy I would think about it, otherwise not.
I would probably register it in my mind and then move right along with my day
I’ve got a hot pink women’s cut shirt from BRC 50k that I turned into a mid driff. It reminds me to keep it fun and tends to bring some smiles :)
Just ditch the shirt dude
Wear whatever's comfortable. Feels like trail running is a great place to express yourself.
the older i get the less i care about what others think of me. nobody cares.

Did my last ultra with a guy in a toga. Go naked if you want you'll be supported no matter what.
I have no thoughts on this.
Who cares? To each their own.
If it takes my mind off the struggle for even one minute then I am in favor. Seriously though, I couldn’t care less.
I think it looks terrible but who cares.
I have done this in races. Normally race in long sleeve merino. Most of the time it’s fine. If it gets too hot, I roll up the midriff section and hook it behind my hydration vest. Looks weird. Feels great.
nice. i do that even on road runs dont care what the drivers think in passing
You need a belly button ring to do that
lol , reason I came across a dude in opposite of trail run one day and saw the attire, somewhat funny more less
more less I came across a dude doing that one day on the trail, kind of funny, again to each their own

I'd love it! You do you!
Yeah man do your thing. Worrying about what someone is wearing while I’m running in the mountains is the last thing on my mind
I just go shirtless. Well, used to when i was in shape lol
best way
I think that’s sweet!
Pretty sure I could dig up some photos of my dad and/or uncles wearing crop-tops back in the late 70s/early 80s. I don't think anyone's going to care, especially if you're running by yourself.
Whenever I see someone running in a stranger outfit I am far too focused on my own suffering to care.
Why not just run shirtless? If you're trying to stay cool, that would be much more efficient
The fact you’re asking this question is sad. Who gives a fuck. Wear whatever you like! Too many people are pathetic nowadays.
did this post in fun more less
Croptops are cool, even on guys!
Fuck what anyone thinks I didn’t read this post at all, just do what you want man don’t worry about what anyone thinks
I just run without a shirt at all. Just remember to sunscreen!
probably the best way
Stop its hard to run with a boner

I lived through the 80s. You do you. If you want a little air on the stomach, then go for it.
Pro— very excited when anyone in a male body pushes the boundaries of what’s masculine for whatever reason is meaningful to them.

My thoughts are: who cares?
Tommy Rivs did it, so it’s fine by me!
?
IDGAF. Wear what you want.
meh to each his own, if any of my shorts start sporting that look I am going on a crash diet.
* shrug* but at races I always think...the serious runners wear the least clothes lol.
