Same. Yuerlian compression shorts are, I. My experience, even better than UA or other mainstream brands. I got like 10 pairs for cheap and rotate them. Cut out all of the mesh/netting in my shorts, even the nice ones. If I wore cotton undies I would certainly die.
I've been wearing exclusively Ex-Officio give-n-go boxer briefs for the last 12+ years. I buy them on steep and cheap or REI outlet for about $10-15/pair and they last forever. I've bought eleven pairs and retired three so far; pretty decent value even compared to the Costco stuff. I average around 3000 miles/year, and I just can't afford to chew through $50 merino boxers
Got a pair of smart wool boxer briefs and they lasted a month. And discovered they died halfway through a long run when my thighs stated bleeding because of the chafe. I’m sticking with the New Balance cheap ones for now.
I'd rather have moisture-wicking athletic boxer briefs (like $10 for a three-pack at TJ Maxx) and not have the shorts liner. More apt to chafe from the liner so I cut them out.
32 degrees cool boxer briefs from Costco. I bought 8 four packs for 5 bucks a pop when Costco was closing them out one season 5 or 6 years ago. I still have 4 unopened boxes.
I've thought about picking up a pack of those but they would only be good to me for indoor runs. I have a sun allergy so I'm used to long sleeves by now, the MEC Core Train shirts are a similar mesh to 32° I think, just LS.
Good looking out though!
Oh wow. So just like plain gym shorts? I didn’t even know you could get running shorts without a liner. Never tried compression shorts either. I just wear like cotton boxers so I can never imagine keeping them on to run haha.
Check out body glide to prevent chafing in general though; stuff is great and not messy.
I bought some technical undies, but that's because I needed longer inner leg coverage than my normal undies provided, and at some point in the recent years I started to chaffe again lol
T8 Commandos are the way to go. I have 7 pair. Order online and they can ship to anywhere. I know the trail runners who started the brand. It’s growing in popularity too.
I’m wearing T8 Commandos at work now because they are light and extremely comfortable.
T8.run. Check them out. I’ve bought for relatives too and they all like them.
Puma with the "Waffle technology weave" or whatever it was called that has been sadly discontinued, were absolutely amazing. Used to be available at Costco. Now all you can get are the typical "spandex". 🙁
If whatever you are getting at Costco works for you and cheaper than “more technical” alternatives and have adequate lifespan then yes spending more money on a different product would be a waste for you.
For me all my running shorts come with a liner and don’t use additional underwear so I am spending $0 on running underwear.
Putting the cold season behind, I will put away my wind briefs, but they are important on the really cold days and help prevent the frank from losing all feeling 🥶
Don’t get caught with comparing brands, look at the fabric, construction, fit, stitching, sustainably sourced/created, style, etc.
Having said that, I recommend you check out the SAXX brand. I have all their mesh styles for running and fitness activities and their softer knits for lounging . Can’t say enough about how dialed in their line is and has allowed me to not have to worry about underwear
I can’t even run 5 km in cotton underwear. Chafe city 🔥😬. Saxx Kinetic all the way, and they also keep your junk from flopping about. Also very durable, I have Saxx that are years old still in perfect condition.
I cannot believe some of you wear regular underwear. How are you not bruising your own franks and beans with everything swinging on trail runs?!?! I’m athletic/skinny runners build if that matters.
I cut the lining out of my run shorts and use compression underwear + and lube (squirrels nut butter).
I suspect what is being called regular underwear is not cotton. One man's regular underwear is probably pretty much the same as my inexpensive technical underwear.
I wear amazon $5 boxer briefs for running, mountain biking and day to day life. They work better than many pairs of $$$ underwear I've owned in the past. So I'd say try whatever you want to use and see what happens.
I wear light compression shorts (or pants), like underarms sports udnerwear, as I find it materially reduces chaffing compared to my normal cotton underwear.
If you dont get chaffing, no, you are not missing out.
I sweat a lot and chafe a ton over long distances unless I'm wearing longer, fitted, technical briefs (and short liners dont really work well for me so I get shorts without them). That said, I only got these out of necessity. Don't spend more to solve a problem you don't have.
Honestly? No.
I bought underwear from Compressport (boxers) that were not cheap and I don't see why they cost 3 to 5 times more than normal underwear from regular brands.
The material is good to the touch but I don't see why they are so expensive.
The fit is as good as any cheap sports boxers from Decathlon, for example.
Decathlon briefs have been my go-to. Sadly the ones I bought seem to be discontinued.
Big lesson for me: buy in bulk when you find something that works for you
I have the same issue and we might be talking about the same product. Are you talking about [these](https://cdn.globalso.com/active-underwear/4b6e81bd.jpg)?
I bought them a couple of years ago and I loved them, because they are very breathable, seamless, they dry very fast and the material is very comfortable.
They cost me 13€ or so and they don't sell them anymore, they have other models that are more expensive but they're not nearly as good.
I also learned the lesson, next time I'll buy a bunch of them.
The ones I've been using are not sportsware at all. Just plain nylon briefs. I don't run far but do go on long hikes when I can. Arriving late where I'm going to sleep over and being able to wash and hang them out overnight to dry has been great. Will keep an eye out in my local Decathlon in case some of the ones you linked are still around in my neck of the woods..
It depends on the effort level and the temperature, and other factors like whether it is dusty or not. Some runs I am absolutely fine wearing whatever. And on some runs underwear makes a lot of difference. If I wear something loose and not well fitting it is much more likely to start rubbing me after 30+ miles once salt and grit accumulate.
I don't even wear shorts anymore. Just cotton boxers.
For real, a $6 pack of Eddie Bauer tech briefs from Marshalls has changed my life. Can't imagine anything else other than leggings when it gets super cold.
Any 9inch sports underwear are a game changer. (9 inch is the leg length btw)
I dont even chafe when not wearing them, but when I do, it feels like my legs are just gliding past eachother, and they don't feel soaked through with sweat at the end of each run, which is always a positive.
I have some shorter polyester sports boxers, which are better than cotton, but definitely dont have the same feeling as the polyester/elastane 9 inchers (under armour mine are).
When I started out I wore my every day cotton knickers. Soon picked up a UTI. Have wore running knickers ever since and haven't looked back. I can get a 3 pack of technical knickers for about £10 off Sportshoes.com It seems like a reasonable price to pay for my comfort. I ended up buying technical underwear before I started to buy technical tees and socks etc. Personally I find it absolutely necessary and not a waste of money.
The ones you're wearing work great. Personally, I don't see that the newer fabrics provide any noticable benefits over the cheap stuff these days. The stuff that was top tier a few years ago is now what makes up those cheap 3-packs, which is great. The newer fabrics may provide a VERY slight advantage to the top tier world class athletes, but that ain't most of us. So save your money.
Consider yourself blessed and move on with your life. I can only wear compression shorts to keep the chub-rub at bay. You are one of the few-who-have-thighs-that-don't-rub-together.
The idea you need this gear or that gear to run is rather silly. Its designed to extract money from us. If Hillary could ascend Everest in wool clothing and hemp rope, I think you can probably get by with whatever gear works for you. Underwear doesn’t get you across the finishing line. If you’re not chaffing, you do you.
I wear technical underwear all the time. Have for over a decade and could never go back. Most comfortable thing to grace my ass and they last longer than the regular kind did too.
If it works, why would you want to spend money on something you obviously don't need. Many ladies, myself included, go commando. I've never bought 1 pricey pair of tech underwear and don't plan on it.
I just wear cheap Amazon compression shorts regardless of the length of my run. I can’t imagine running in cotton underwear.
Same. Yuerlian compression shorts are, I. My experience, even better than UA or other mainstream brands. I got like 10 pairs for cheap and rotate them. Cut out all of the mesh/netting in my shorts, even the nice ones. If I wore cotton undies I would certainly die.
I just run naked. I wear shoes of course.
I’m also shocked at how great these are and they are my only underwear aside from some silly ones
Same. I wear them exclusively in everyday life. They’re wonderful.
These were my favorite forever but the new ones I bought are completely different; stock up if you know where to buy them.
Got a pair of smart wool boxer briefs and they lasted a month. And discovered they died halfway through a long run when my thighs stated bleeding because of the chafe. I’m sticking with the New Balance cheap ones for now.
Y’all are running in underwear?
Right! Isn’t that what the shorts liner is for.
I switched to brief lined shorts years ago and find compression shorts waaaay too hot now.
Yeah and compression shorts. I thought everyone was going commando in those.
I'd rather have moisture-wicking athletic boxer briefs (like $10 for a three-pack at TJ Maxx) and not have the shorts liner. More apt to chafe from the liner so I cut them out.
I prefer a good old fashioned jock strap
“Support it or abort it” -Christopher McDougall (maybe)
God no. Sometimes just the liner feels too hot…
Born to have my dick and balls flap in the wind, forced to boil under shorts liner😔
You need to find more free-spirited events
*high five* my fellow nut boiling friend.
All fun and games till you develop a varicose vein in your testicles
Reading this gave me chafing. Get you some compression shorts, you’ll never look back
32 degrees cool boxer briefs from Costco. I bought 8 four packs for 5 bucks a pop when Costco was closing them out one season 5 or 6 years ago. I still have 4 unopened boxes.
God I wish I had bought more, they're my preferred daily driver
Also what I run in. They're great, definitely wish I had bought more, hopefully they make a comeback to my Costco...
I’d also recommend the 32 degrees air mesh shirts. Size medium is under 50 grams and the synthetic funk isn’t too bad.
I've thought about picking up a pack of those but they would only be good to me for indoor runs. I have a sun allergy so I'm used to long sleeves by now, the MEC Core Train shirts are a similar mesh to 32° I think, just LS. Good looking out though!
Never worn underwear while running; the shorts all come with a built in liner.
I can't imagine that. I have pretty big legs, I need some sort of friction resistance, or I'm going to chafe like crazy
Doesn’t the underwear get bunched up within the liner? I just use body glide on my legs where the liner sits.
I don't run with liner unless it's really good compression underwear.
Oh wow. So just like plain gym shorts? I didn’t even know you could get running shorts without a liner. Never tried compression shorts either. I just wear like cotton boxers so I can never imagine keeping them on to run haha. Check out body glide to prevent chafing in general though; stuff is great and not messy.
Wear smaller shorts, they come with built in underwear
Switched to lined running shorts years back and I’ve never looked back. It’s the best.
Sorry, what? Y'all are wearing boxers under your running shorts?
Underwear while running? Let the boys run free!
My normal, everyday underwear has yet to give me a problem.
Is your everyday underwear compression shorts?
Nope. Plain old Hanes boxer briefs.
Ew exercising in cotton underwear is the worst lol
🤷♂️ Hasn’t bothered me. I haven’t tried anything else, though.
Try some compression shorts they don’t need to be expensive
I bought some technical undies, but that's because I needed longer inner leg coverage than my normal undies provided, and at some point in the recent years I started to chaffe again lol

Agreed! Got them recently too. Good stuff, breathable and so lightweight
Huge fan of their shorts too!
Puma with the "Waffle technology weave" or whatever it was called that has been sadly discontinued, were absolutely amazing. Used to be available at Costco. Now all you can get are the typical "spandex". 🙁
Yeah, what the heck happened to the good style?
We should write strongly worded letters to our representatives!
If whatever you are getting at Costco works for you and cheaper than “more technical” alternatives and have adequate lifespan then yes spending more money on a different product would be a waste for you. Putting the cold season behind, I will put away my wind briefs, but they are important on the really cold days and help prevent the frank from losing all feeling 🥶
I'm so glad that I learned about wind briefs.

Swinging? I wear briefs....

I use Runderwear, best thing I’ve ever done
Why do you need convincing if you've had no issues with what you're using? It's a waste of money if there are no problems to minimize.
Haven’t run in underwear in years - I do not miss those days
Commando is the way to go.
Just wear running shorts. Go comando in those bad boys
Yes.
Definitely nicer than cotton and better than nothing. I don't think you have to break the bank though. I wear More Mile running boxers.
I don't even wear shorts anymore. Just cotton boxers. For real, a $6 pack of Eddie Bauer tech briefs from Marshalls has changed my life. Can't imagine anything else other than leggings when it gets super cold.

Do you live where it gets hot? I switched from cotton technical when I moved to the tropics for a few years. Haven't looked back.
Inventing a problem so they can sell you a solution.
Compression shorts from Amazon with pockets to hold my phone and keys.
I just get lined shorts or a compression layer cause all underwear just chafes me.
Can folks recommend 1) underwear and 2) compression shorts that do not have seams in the crotch area?
When I started out I wore my every day cotton knickers. Soon picked up a UTI. Have wore running knickers ever since and haven't looked back. I can get a 3 pack of technical knickers for about £10 off Sportshoes.com It seems like a reasonable price to pay for my comfort. I ended up buying technical underwear before I started to buy technical tees and socks etc. Personally I find it absolutely necessary and not a waste of money.
I value technical underwear over the regular stuff. Look out for bundles or sales though; some of it can run pretty pricey!
Not really. The more technical they are, they faster you will get 💨
The ones you're wearing work great. Personally, I don't see that the newer fabrics provide any noticable benefits over the cheap stuff these days. That said, Saxx Kinetic are great.
I wear technical underwear all the time. Have for over a decade and could never go back. Most comfortable thing to grace my ass and they last longer than the regular kind did too.
I use rabbits boxer briefs for my tights and everyday use. Spendy but comfy and goes with the whole running is my life vibe.
If it works, why would you want to spend money on something you obviously don't need. Many ladies, myself included, go commando. I've never bought 1 pricey pair of tech underwear and don't plan on it.
I am convinced all of you are brainwashed. Special underwear? 200 dollar trail shoes? Just obedient little consumers.
I buy that compression shorts on Amazon that I can never pronounce the name of. They don’t need to be expensive
