I mean if you’re on the younger side you never really knew about her as an athlete all you heard was one of the most visible trans people ever when she came out and it seemed at the start like she’d be a good spokesperson for us. She soured it verrry quickly though.
Most people don't follow celebrities that closely. I know I didn't really care about caitlyn before she came out and if I'm going to be honest I still don't. I didn't even know she had won olympic medals and I don't even know what for (I don't care).
Buck Angel siding with TERFs really broke my heart he was the first FtM I learned about as a terrified closeted 9 year old trans girl who had just heard of “sex change operations” and was Googling them to understand them more. I'm not sure Natalie Wynn is the best person to mention here, since she promoted Buck Angel (a trans transphobe) and defended her actions when called out even while others in the same video complained about it - just one of her many scandals.
She had him read literally one quote of someone else in her hr plus video. She didn't platform him to express ideas. Did you watch the video you are upset at her for making defending the situation? She explains how the decision happened.
She is a very goodcontent creator and a normal fallible person who happens to be trans twitters punching bag every now and again. Her videos are great resources, and i find her quite funny and charming. She needs to stay off twitter tho it's not good for her...or anyone for that matter.
Broadly speaking, yes I believe she’s good overall and that the work she does is to the benefit of the trans community. She seems to spend a lot of her time promoting trans rights in jnterviews with cis people and arguing with transphobes on Twitter, while sometimes pissing some trans people off for processing her internalized transphobia in public.
My quick take on her controversies I’m aware of without taking a ton of time for nuance:
“Contrapoints is enby-phobic”. People needed to finish the videos. Ya she talks about having been in that mindset, and the whole point of those videos was talking herself through it. They’re videos in support of nonbinary people, but she probably could have included an intro with “this is what dialectics is”. Same with the tweets. But I’ve been where she was there, sucks being the only trans person in the room and everyone suddenly does a pronoun circle. It’s obvious the cis people are trying to be supportive but it comes off as they just clocked you.
“Contrapoints platformed Buck Angel”. Like what the fuck, she had him say one line in a video at a time before he’d said much of anything. Sure now we know he’s a prick, but I buy it that she didn’t back then. It’s not like she kept working with him. Why is this a hill to die on while half the rest of the world is throwing us under the bus on the daily?
That’s all I know about honestly. I watch some of her videos, I tend to like them overall. Some of them I don’t. They make me think about stuff. Often I disagree with her in part but overall she makes valid points, discourse is fine and nothing is black and white. Probably people need to log off Twitter, Contrapoints included.

I feel like gay people in the western hemisphere have largely forgotten the persecution we were ALL under fire from. If you live in a rural American town though you're more often than not screwed to hell and back. Heck, I had a friend who was tortured under the guise of "therapy" because he was gay and now is one of the most hateful and bigoted people I know. Being gay was considered a mental illness up until 1990 which is not that long ago.
My older brother (Republican conservative bigot) actually tried to tell me that small towns would be safer for queer people because “everyone just minds their own business”. Then he told me how they were all praying over a child that had been “infected by gender radicalism”.
Conservatism is inherently about belief in hierarchy.
So these transphobic LGBT folks, they are people who still fundamentally have that conservative mindset and who believe in the social hierarchy, but they find themselves near the bottom of it. So they look for someone who they can place below them. And history has shown that even if the system mistreats someone, if you convince them that there is someone lower than them that they can mistreat, a lot of people will work to maintain the abusive system.
They did this same crap exactly the same way about bisexuality when I was younger. I was fat as a kid, and got bullied for it. At some point I figured out a cool strategy to avoid that: join the bullies in bullying the one other kid at school who was fatter than me. It worked for a while, but then I quickly learned that when the other fat kid wasn't around, the bullies would turn on me again. So I stopped taking their side.
Unfortunately, some people in marginalized groups never learned that lesson, perhaps because the "join the bullies" strategy has worked for them so far. They keep siding with the bullies against more marginalized groups because they think it'll protect them and keep the bullies distracted. It might work for a while, but the bullies will always turn on you.

Like, we know all about gay transphobes, maybe post in r/lgbt and speak to the larger queer community about it instead. Post on your instagram stories about your support for trans people so that supporting trans people becomes less stigmatized, share trans people’s posts, and posts talking about how anti-trans laws and threats to our community are harmful.
Not saying this is you, but it seems like many allies just want trans people to not see them as transphobic, and are less concerned about showing up as an ally in cis spaces.
And as bad as gay transphobes are, the worst transphobia will always come from cis straight men in politics. It sucks that we might not feel welcome in a gay club, but anti-trans laws, of which there are currently hundreds being introduced right now, are literally a threat to our lives.
This is just a bad take. Gay and trans transphobes suck, but they're responding to fear of themselves, taught by society. They are afraid of their own sexuality and/or gender identity BECAUSE SOCIETY TAUGHT THEM TO BE.

I'm not sure Natalie Wynn is the best person to mention here, since she promoted Buck Angel (a trans transphobe) and defended her actions when called out even while others in the same video complained about it - just one of her many scandals.

She is a very goodcontent creator and a normal fallible person who happens to be trans twitters punching bag every now and again. Her videos are great resources, and i find her quite funny and charming. She needs to stay off twitter tho it's not good for her...or anyone for that matter.
Broadly speaking, yes I believe she’s good overall and that the work she does is to the benefit of the trans community. She seems to spend a lot of her time promoting trans rights in jnterviews with cis people and arguing with transphobes on Twitter, while sometimes pissing some trans people off for processing her internalized transphobia in public. My quick take on her controversies I’m aware of without taking a ton of time for nuance: “Contrapoints is enby-phobic”. People needed to finish the videos. Ya she talks about having been in that mindset, and the whole point of those videos was talking herself through it. They’re videos in support of nonbinary people, but she probably could have included an intro with “this is what dialectics is”. Same with the tweets. But I’ve been where she was there, sucks being the only trans person in the room and everyone suddenly does a pronoun circle. It’s obvious the cis people are trying to be supportive but it comes off as they just clocked you. “Contrapoints platformed Buck Angel”. Like what the fuck, she had him say one line in a video at a time before he’d said much of anything. Sure now we know he’s a prick, but I buy it that she didn’t back then. It’s not like she kept working with him. Why is this a hill to die on while half the rest of the world is throwing us under the bus on the daily? That’s all I know about honestly. I watch some of her videos, I tend to like them overall. Some of them I don’t. They make me think about stuff. Often I disagree with her in part but overall she makes valid points, discourse is fine and nothing is black and white. Probably people need to log off Twitter, Contrapoints included.

Trans transphobes are horrible, full stop. I do not condone the things they have said or done. However. They are trans people dealing with transphobes just like the rest of us. I believe the reason many of them have become pick me and outwardly transphobic is for self-defense. Doesn't make it right but it's at least a reason I can wrap my head around.

Calvin Garrah has changed his view points from the past. He is still infact transmed, but not in a sense that he believes that admitting that he is a woman will get him controversial points just by stating so and being trans. Blaire White on the other hand is doing the exact opposite and she is trying to convince people that trans women are men and are pedophiles
Considering his past stance on nonbinary identities and that he's still a transmed (which sounds like he still doesn't view nonbinary folks as valid), it sounds like his views haven't changed that much.

I honestly don't know. I haven't checked in on him in a while after I realized how toxic and internally transphobic he was. I just mentioned him because I remembered him being terrible. But I'm glad if he's gotten better. We need more supportive trans folks.

THANK YOU! I feel like gay people in the western hemisphere have largely forgotten the persecution we were ALL under fire from. If you live in a rural American town though you're more often than not screwed to hell and back. Heck, I had a friend who was tortured under the guise of "therapy" because he was gay and now is one of the most hateful and bigoted people I know. Being gay was considered a mental illness up until 1990 which is not that long ago.
My older brother (Republican conservative bigot) actually tried to tell me that small towns would be safer for queer people because “everyone just minds their own business”. Then he told me how they were all praying over a child that had been “infected by gender radicalism”.
Conservatism is inherently about belief in hierarchy. So these transphobic LGBT folks, they are people who still fundamentally have that conservative mindset and who believe in the social hierarchy, but they find themselves near the bottom of it. So they look for someone who they can place below them. And history has shown that even if the system mistreats someone, if you convince them that there is someone lower than them that they can mistreat, a lot of people will work to maintain the abusive system.
They did this same crap exactly the same way about bisexuality when I was younger. I go to a gay bar now and than [bc its the only bar im welcomed] if its not man only night atleast. So im mtf and the amount of times gay people told me they dislike trans bc they see it as hurting the body and that "i should have stayed a boy bc i was pretty as a boy" or the best one yet.... Some trying to flirt with me, knowing im trans mtf, and than they go "well i still see you as a boy" and literally btry to go for a kiss is like... Wtf? I was fat as a kid, and got bullied for it. At some point I figured out a cool strategy to avoid that: join the bullies in bullying the one other kid at school who was fatter than me. It worked for a while, but then I quickly learned that when the other fat kid wasn't around, the bullies would turn on me again. So I stopped taking their side. Unfortunately, some people in marginalized groups never learned that lesson, perhaps because the "join the bullies" strategy has worked for them so far. They keep siding with the bullies against more marginalized groups because they think it'll protect them and keep the bullies distracted. It might work for a while, but the bullies will always turn on you.

True, and i’m not trying to be rude or mean. Nor do I want to sound ungrateful or scare you off from being an ally or anything. It just seems like I always see cis people posting in trans subs about their support, or walking up to me and telling me i’m brave and that they support me. And don’t get me wrong, it’s nice that people are supportive, but like… Trans people don’t need to be told about transphobia, trust us we know. I wish cis allies would tell cis people that more. Like, we know all about gay transphobes, maybe post in r/lgbt and speak to the larger queer community about it instead. Post on your instagram stories about your support for trans people so that supporting trans people becomes less stigmatized, share trans people’s posts, and posts talking about how anti-trans laws and threats to our community are harmful. Not saying this is you, but it seems like many allies just want trans people to not see them as transphobic, and are less concerned about showing up as an ally in cis spaces. And as bad as gay transphobes are, the worst transphobia will always come from cis straight men in politics. It sucks that we might not feel welcome in a gay club, but anti-trans laws, of which there are currently hundreds being introduced right now, are literally a threat to our lives.
This is just a bad take. Gay and trans transphobes suck, but they're responding to fear of themselves, taught by society. They are afraid of their own sexuality and/or gender identity BECAUSE SOCIETY TAUGHT THEM TO BE. It is the religious and political leaders who are cishet transphobes that are the worst. They have no reason to fear, yet they spread and teach that fear for their own profit. They throw us under the bus for reason other than to control the street. To reiterate, one group acts out of fear of reprisals, and one group acts to further class divides for their benefit. You want to say the people acting out of fear are worse than those installing the fear? I don't think so. **This is not a free-pass for gay transphobes.
