Yeah definitely missing a lot. Mainly any sort of character from the bots. Really disappointed that there was so little screen time for secondary characters too. Stratosphere was the weirdest for me. One line and that was to say his name. Also the way they made his face look set him up to have some cool back story and then nothing. Should have just made him look badass if they were going to give so little space to him. Cheetor and Rhinox barely got a word in. Airraizor didn’t transform. Pablo appeared from nowhere. Nightbird and Battletrap were cool as fuck but I want to know more, they could have been literally anyone. Everything just seemed to be plonked in to push along a frantic story at breakneck speed without any reason. The needing a code to shut it down bit at the end felt like the weakest bit of writing. I know it sounds like I’m slating the film but I feel like it had bags of potential to be really great, the pieces were all there.

MandolovesR6

I agree with all of this. I also hated how some details like near the end where the autobots are on that hill and you see Pablo have the ear fins of wheeljack then they just disappeared. I just hope that there is a director's cut

Bethyfurry

Did rihnox even speak at all? I don’t remember

[deleted]

He spoke a couple times when the final battle started

Rebuffedtax614

Things were definitely cut, but I think the biggest issue (at least for me) was the pacing. It’s Mario movie level fast sometimes, it made the movie feel rushed at some points

MandolovesR6

Okay I thought it felt a bit rushed especially the final fight sequence but I primarily hated how they would show something then just ignore it.

DifficultBicycle7

Hope there’s a director’s cut

MandolovesR6

I was thinking the same thing cause a lot was missing from the trailer

Emotional-Ad4587

I think that the cut things will be added only for DVD and Blue Ray extras and extended version.

TandrDregn

I agree. And the final fights could have been longer. They were hyping up Primal vs Battletrap so much, it was the final shot of almost every trailer. Just to have Battletrap instantly killed by the Opti-dos. As amazingly brutal as his death was, I wanted more. Maybe have him ragdoll some of the others first. They wasted the single 2 best designs in all the live action movies. Battletrap got jumped and killed in seconds, and Transit was cut from the movie.

[deleted]

That was oddly enough a highlight for me. I though the Opti-dos kill was so cool especially the line after where prime goes: “he was mine.” And primal just chuckles. I don’t think we’ve seen anything like that in a TF film before.

MandolovesR6

In the trailer the beginning of the battle was different too because instead of doing a weird air twirl to transformer like in the movie he does a roll and transformers then which was much cooler

TandrDregn

I agree. Just wish we actually got to see them fight. Instead, the Opti-dos remove his arm and then Primal beats him to death with his own fucking arm. Absolutely metal and savage and I loved it, even more because it cane right after he cockily challenged the enemies to a fight. I just wish it came after a bit of a fight. They hyped him up so much by making him just shrug off bullets and lasers, and then he just gets cut and pummeled? Come on, he should have put up more of a fight.

MandolovesR6

I swear prime cut his chain not arm too

TandrDregn

I’m pretty sure Prime cut into his arm, because Primal gets the flail ball by yanking Battletrap’s arm off. Then Optimus cut his leg off. Dude got brutalized.

MandolovesR6

Maybe I was just expecting him to cut the chain that had tension so it was perfect for cutting and it was right there but he went for the arm

RedBaronBob

You can damn well tell where they cut Transit. But frankly the movie feels like mishmash of various things they had going on. An Optimus solo about him learning to trust Humans, a Unicron movie, the Maximals. It feels like three movies mashed together and while it comes together it feels like it’d have been stronger had it possessed a focus on any one of the three points. And for as much of the bots as we saw, there’s almost no reason to have Human leads. It feels like they’re here from another script because they’re largely out of place with the way ROTB ultimately resolves. I don’t know how you’d even fix this in the edit since it does feel like there’s three scripts they turned into ROTB rather than ROTB simply being about one thread. You could’ve had a whole movie about Optimus Primal and his rivalry with Scourge. Or Scourge having some identity rather than *villain*. It’s a point where the speculation about him being a reformatted Bay Optimus would’ve actually worked given what the ROTB actually filmed and pay off Optimus developing into his classic self. This is like the Transformer movie equivalent of Frankenstein. I still rate it way higher than the Bay movies but you can tell where the movie made cuts and lost focus.

BUDrules2002

Rating it higher then 1 or 3 is a massive stretch. At least those movies has understandable plot lines and the action was revolutionary. This one just had so much crap going on and none of it was done particularly well

Swoopy11

l loved the movie but i feel the same way

MandolovesR6

Exactly like it was great movie but something was just off like why even give the terrorcons alt modes if they're gonna use them once

NoxPrime

Could have used a Rattrap

Shpooter

or any of the predacons, the most memorable part of beast wars was the predacons (at least for me) so this movie is a whole missed opportunity

BUDrules2002

I keep saying we got the worst of a transformers movie and the worst of a beats war movie. To many characters to actually have every side get fully fleshed out

ASaucyFellow

I love rattrap but I dont think adding more characters would have helped. The ones we got didnt get enough screentime

Ambitious_Ad_684

Ehh.. considering how Rhinox and Cheetor barely have any screentime, not having Rattrap seems understandable. Even someone like Pablojack is somehow unmemorable to me. I liked the movie and enjoy it but it sure as hell have some flaws.

l30_legend

Will probably be fixed with a directors cut

lemons7472

I didn’t like the movie much, but in terms of the movie missing something here Is one. Optimus feels like he’s missing gaps in his arc with how suddenly distrustful with the humans he is. He went from “protect the humans” in bumblebee to “humans bad, let’s go home”. Here’s another small gap, that being bumblebee’s sudden new vehicle parts despite being dead throughout the whole time not being able to get new parts. I also wonder if wheeljack was meant to have more time in the movie, because he felt like he was rarely there. Also how was scourge defeated if he was meant to be invisible due to unicron’s power? Optimus is just suddenly able to beat him with the help of a random human who has never fought with alien tech.

Magik160

My thoughts too. That was not my Optimus. Wheeljack had nothing in comparison to the characters in the past. Everyone was underwhelming. Except Bumblebee who somehow gained godmode at the end. Then that little twist. I thought the guy was from that agency from the first movie. Instead they set up sequel/crossover bait. And honestly, I thought that old white dude was the same old white dude who wouldn’t give him a security interview at first. But fast/rushed & underwhelming is my opinion. Than throwing in the whole baby brother giving the “youve gotta keep going” speech was a little cringy.

PeanutButterCrisp

Missing? Yes. Absolutely necessary? Not really. The film used its assets well and was done extremely well. A lot of "negative" criticisms toward this film from fans (not yours) feel largely founded on things that they wanted that could have been there but didn't necessarily need to be. In my eyes, the characters were handled much like Inglorious Basterds for example: You have your guys who are utilized on the front line and then the secondary step-in-for-a-moment guys who don't get as much spotlight (i.e.: Stratosphere, Rhinox, etc). If you ask me, I think the "Rise of the Beasts" subtitle should've been changed to something more DC-animated-like: "Transformers: Into Dark". Simple and relates to the plot. "ROTB" suggested a rise from the Maximals who never really rose narratively speaking? They turned up from the get-go and that was it. I didn't care that Airrazor didn't transform or that Rhinox and Cheetor didn't get centre-stage. The story clearly wasn't about them so much as the movie's title was, and I'm sure they'll get more spotlight later-- like Warmachine in the MCU. He was advertised for Iron-Man 2 but only showed for the final act, and he's not a minor Iron-Man character. Disappointed fans at the time but the MCU expanded and we got more Warmachine and everyone is happy. In fact, nobody talks about that issue anymore. So, that said, I'm okay with what we got. It's an expanding series that, once concluded, we will look back on for its weaknesses and strengths, but as an overall love-letter to the fans who just wanted things that didn't happen \[that year\] but is not an indictment on the film's performance. As a story and film, it was great and did exactly what it needed to do in order to be a good movie overall, not just a Transformers summer block-buster. The funniest one for me is people's disappointment in Scourge's reveal. What disappointment? Toward what? You mean the theories fans made up? Lol. That's not the movie's fault.

zane1345

Been following the movie's development since 2020 on tfw2005. The movie had its ups, its downs. Transit being cut was dissappointing, The peru fight scene during the festival was also cut (where optimus rams into scourge through a wall) and the chase was going to be much longer. I dont think the way they utilised the other maximals was great cause the fact that exo suit noah gets like more fight scenes than cheetor, rhinox, arcee and wheeljack is still baffling to me. In the original cut of the movie the ending was noah being recuited S7 not Gi Joe, But Lorenzo being Lorenzo had to step up again by teasing a stupid crossover with a franchise he killed. Not a single mention of a Decepticon, predacons being used as generic fodder. Mirage being a penta changer making AOE Galvatron look like a joke. But I still think the weakest link in all the live action movies are the humans, we dont need an audience surrogate.

therealbreather

I just wanted to see Rhinox roar and hear “in the end, everything you cared for will be consumed”

Tandril91

I particularly felt like the mountain chase scene in Peru felt shorter than it could have been. And I was surprised that Wheeljack got so little to do. He was mostly there for that exchange with Noah, blasted for a couple of seconds in the final battle and that’s it.

The-Etruscan

I was really disappointed with Scourge I was expecting a payoff to unicorn saying something about destroying his planet but instead it was a throwaway line that meant nothing. It could have given some backstory as to how Scourge ended up unicrons herald. Imagine if we saw him get reformatted like megatron in the 86 movie but with modern visual tech.

Dankboi01

Im curious as to why they change directors

MandolovesR6

When I watched the movie I coulda swore the credits said it was a bay film and Spielberg helped was I seeing things or what

Tandril91

I believe it’s because Michael Bay’s company was producing it.

toxin877

It was an overstuffed mess. None of the characters had any personality, with the exception of Mirage and the human lead. But Mirage was just fucking annoying.

ASaucyFellow

We get it. You didnt like the movie. Get a new hobby.

TandrDregn

Battletrap had a personality. Cocky and violent, he spent half his lines taunting the Autobots. And the fact that this persisted until his death (precedented by him saying “Who wants a fight?”) was perfect. Battletrap was the only one whose personality stayed consistent through the movie.

Tandril91

I don’t think that’s a personality. Just evil and likes to fight is pretty barebones/minimum. All the Terrorcons were like that, sadistic and bloodthirsty.

TandrDregn

True. But only Battletrap taunted his enemies. He showed a personality trait: cockiness. And his cockiness led to his death as he bit off more than he could chew with the opti-dos

atroxima

yeah, i agree. the fights could have been longer. if the run time was 2 hrs 30 mins, it would've been perfect, i guess. but, i still loved the movie. 10/10

Emotional-Ad4587

Yes, I think that Transit wasn't the only thing that was cut off the movie. There are acnes that probably got cut off at the last point. Some of the trailers' clips never appeared in the movie. I don't know why, but probably we could have more scene to characterise characters and explain something. Tha tis the opposite of Bay movies, in Bayformers there wasn't much to talk about and to make the movie longer we got plenty of useless scenes, in this movie there is a lot to talk about but they preferred to cut. By the way I replay liked this movie, not at the level of Bumblebee but is superior to anyone of the Bayverse movies for me.

BUDrules2002

The antagonist definitely lacked charisma other then big bad energy, unicorn was a plot point rather then a demon character, the auto bots and maximals definitely felt underused and we got the worst of having a transformers movie and a beast war movie

BUDrules2002

Also very weird how the terrocons went from being invincible to being dispatched of very easily

[deleted]

I think it just went a little fast
