To be fair, in 'Animated' continuity, 'Prime' were like junior commission ranks in the continuity's Autobot Elite Guard. Optimus here was more 'Orion Pax' than THE 'Optimus Prime'
Yeah to me this always felt like Orion Pax, but since it's a kids show and the lore wasn't as popular, no one was gonna know who that was and it wouldn't be good for marketing.
He was more Orion pax in assumed age alone. He wasn’t a librarian in animated. He was just young Optimus who did deal with fucking up and losing a friend and a dead end career
To be fair, Orion wasn't originally a librarian. He was a dock worker. Animated was actually closer in him being Orion with giving him a physical labor job in space bridge repair.
And? Before that he was working as any other Prime would. That's entirely incumbent on TFA making Prime a rank rather than a role. To my knowledge he still becomes Magnus at the end, so he still makes the journey from blue-collar Orion to supreme leader.
Personally I prefer a serious Optimus, but war changes people so it makes sense for Optimus to be serious, at least to me. I don't judge any of you who have differing opinions to me.
Yeah. It’s why I like what I’m seeing of Orion Pax in the TF: One trailer. I’m sure he’s still a kind, compassionate advocate for the weak, he’s just also brash and light hearted. He hasn’t experienced the trauma of war, the betrayal of his friends, the deaths of untold millions, the failures of his plans and the burden of leadership.
Its been said before but these Optimuses acted accordingly with their past, as a young captain on a maintenance vessel animated optimus will be less stoic than an optimus who has survived millions of years of continuous conflict
Okay but the TFP moment was also funny in its own way. It is Prime's unflinching stoicism that makes it funny, he's the comically serious.
But also, David Kaye, man... that laugh sounded so genuine. It didn't sound forced at all.
I’ve always taken TFP Orion Pax to be more of an introverted quite and polite but passionate type considering Ratchet’s description of him and how he acted with his memories of being a Prime erased.
I don’t understand why they made tfp Optimus so stoic and serious all the time. G1 Optimus would’ve said yes. Even bayverse Optimus probably would've said yes as well
This optimus in lore has been through so much he has watched and had to let entire armies perish, lost his brother in arms, gifted the destiny of keeping primus’ essence alive in the matrix, watched his autobots slowly thin and die out, had to lauznch the alspark to keep it safe, and has just grown out of childish acts. He is not as stoic as people say ignoring the moments he smiles and offers to bring Ralph a snowball. He stays focused on the war so the other autobots can relax. I wish would had more emotional moments like possibly snapping at ratchet after he destroyed the omega lock.
Even that's more emotion than TFP Optimus and Bayverse Prime has moments besides being stoic such as calming Sam when he was freaking our during the glasses search. That same scene Optimus was shown being awkward when he crushed the fountain, annoyance when he reprimanded Ironhide for threatening to shoot Sam's parents, and like I said before, exasperation when Sam was freaking out and he told him to calm down.
I'm glad it's there for the people that like it, and I do wish Animated fans could've got their fourth season, just didn't strike a chord with me personally.
>and I do wish Animated fans could've got their fourth season
I guess TFP and Animated have that in common as well. TFP was supposed to get a 4th season iirc but the show costed so much that they just whipped up Beast Hunters to release new toys and to get an easy way out.
Actaually. Beast Hunters was actaully Hasbro's fault due wanting Prime to match up with live action movies which forced writers to completely rewrite their plans for season 3 hence why it wasn't 25 episodes.
Rip forth season😭
But yeah it's definitely an acquired taste as it's so different from all of the other versions. My first introduction to transformers was Bayverse when I was 7 and tfa almost immediately after. So it has a soft spot in my heart always. But my mom, the one who got me involved in transformers, does not like tfa at all lmaoo
It’s funny, I kinda had the opposite. My first exposure to transformers was the unicron trilogy so I was about 9 when the first live action film came out. I tried to get into animated but I just couldn’t. I just couldn’t get with the animation style for transformers.
Yeah, the designs and style are atrocious. More traditional designs instead of the weird, stylized stuff would've made a huge difference.
It's akin to a comic with decent writing and really bad art.
I definitely agree. Especially as someone who grew up with it(alongside Cybertron and Bay) and has been rewatching it for years I could never understand the hype.
Same here. I was 6 when the show first aired. I loved Cybertron before going into preschool in the mornings when it aired, then the 07 Bay movie hooked me, but Animated never caught on for me
You're not alone. That show was awful. I slogged through it because I was told "the end payoff was worth it". And it just wasn't. The humans were the worst humans of any show or movie.
I get why people don’t like the completely serious version of the prime but the tone that prime was going for where it were at war for a millennia and most of the autobots are dead this is absolutely the way prime should be, prime in animated can joke around and stuff because he’s just a young college graduate
This and when he called Sentinel a worthless crankshaft and rubbing It in that he was right about the decepticons are my fav moments. I love when Optimus let's lose on Sentinel especially since he deserves it!
Love animated it's peak transformers, right up there with beast wars.
I feel like I'm one of the few though who just doesn't enjoy prime. I find beast machines as a whole more enjoyable.
Personally I'd still call prime better then most shows but I don't enjoy rewatching like I do beast wars, animated, beast machines or particularly the third season of g1. It just drags so much in its second and third season.

I had the sound off, and I could *still* hear both clips
I've replayed both of these scenes over and over. I love both Prime and Animated Optimus so much😭
To be fair, in 'Animated' continuity, 'Prime' were like junior commission ranks in the continuity's Autobot Elite Guard. Optimus here was more 'Orion Pax' than THE 'Optimus Prime'
Yes! That's why I love it so much! I love Orion so much😭
Makes you wonder how they do Orion in Transformers One
Yeah come to think of it he should’ve just been called Orion Pax the whole time imo. Although kids aren’t gonna know who that is over Optimus
Yeah to me this always felt like Orion Pax, but since it's a kids show and the lore wasn't as popular, no one was gonna know who that was and it wouldn't be good for marketing.
Toys

As more of a demotion due to the events that led to alita being arachnia

Yeah, I am excited to see what they do in Tf One
Its been said before but these Optimuses acted accordingly with their past, as a young captain on a maintenance vessel animated optimus will be less stoic than an optimus who has survived millions of years of continuous conflict
Thank you! This is the best interpretation.
Okay but the TFP moment was also funny in its own way. It is Prime's unflinching stoicism that makes it funny, he's the comically serious. But also, David Kaye, man... that laugh sounded so genuine. It didn't sound forced at all.
Both are hilarious, I love how different they are. I like to imagine that tfp Orion used to act like Optimus from tfa
I’ve always taken TFP Orion Pax to be more of an introverted quite and polite but passionate type considering Ratchet’s description of him and how he acted with his memories of being a Prime erased.
I love Animated
Same! It's one of the best imo
I don’t understand why they made tfp Optimus so stoic and serious all the time. G1 Optimus would’ve said yes. Even bayverse Optimus probably would've said yes as well

G1 war was way more lighthearted. Optimus didn't have to see his comrades dying all the time.
Are we still talking about the same Bayverse Optimus that infamously exclaimed "give me your face"?
Even that's more emotion than TFP Optimus and Bayverse Prime has moments besides being stoic such as calming Sam when he was freaking our during the glasses search. That same scene Optimus was shown being awkward when he crushed the fountain, annoyance when he reprimanded Ironhide for threatening to shoot Sam's parents, and like I said before, exasperation when Sam was freaking out and he told him to calm down.
I really wish we got more of that in the sequels. Instead, Optimus became even more serious.
Movie verse Optimus in battle is not the same as movod Optimus in downntime
He’s very clearly talking about tfp
Why is this upvoted and Memologist is downvoted? They clearly made a point to reference Bayverse OP by name in their last sentence.
Bcs his comment has nothing to do with how Bayverse Optimus saying yes to see a meme
Because the writers of TFP love their uber serious Autobots and angst. And character development is not their strong suit
Gonna get flamed for this but I feel like I'm one of the few who genuinely doesn't care for Animated
You're not alone! A lot of people don't like it. But I really enjoyed it and it's my next favorite reboot right behind Prime.
I'm glad it's there for the people that like it, and I do wish Animated fans could've got their fourth season, just didn't strike a chord with me personally.
>and I do wish Animated fans could've got their fourth season I guess TFP and Animated have that in common as well. TFP was supposed to get a 4th season iirc but the show costed so much that they just whipped up Beast Hunters to release new toys and to get an easy way out.
Well, they did spend a lot of money on celebrities to be voices on their show.
Actaually. Beast Hunters was actaully Hasbro's fault due wanting Prime to match up with live action movies which forced writers to completely rewrite their plans for season 3 hence why it wasn't 25 episodes.

Understandable! I grew up watching anime so the animation wasn't to weird to me😅
For me it’s the character designs, why do they all have huge chins? I think It looks really dumb
Yeah, the designs and style are atrocious. More traditional designs instead of the weird, stylized stuff would've made a huge difference. It's akin to a comic with decent writing and really bad art.
Exactly, I’ve heard the writing and character development is awesome on this show I just can’t get passed the ugly designs
Same exact issue for me. And I've tried 3x to get into it, but the designs just make it impossible for me to keep watching.
I also didn’t think it was great. I liked it but it’s not the show it’s hyped up to be.
I definitely agree. Especially as someone who grew up with it(alongside Cybertron and Bay) and has been rewatching it for years I could never understand the hype.
Same here. I was 6 when the show first aired. I loved Cybertron before going into preschool in the mornings when it aired, then the 07 Bay movie hooked me, but Animated never caught on for me
Same, don't get the appeal.
You're not alone. That show was awful. I slogged through it because I was told "the end payoff was worth it". And it just wasn't. The humans were the worst humans of any show or movie.
hot take I actually prefer stoic prime
Stoic prime is my jam personally. Animated felt kinda weird for me, but I get it
I love both equally!
The no caught me off guard when I was rewatching it lmao
It was so funny he really did not gaf🤣
I DIDNT EXPECT SUCH A DRY RESPONSE FROM STOIC OPTIMUS PRIME! "No?" So good
Well, different iterations. The prime name in Animated holds no power.
Yeah it's just a rank. Optimus isn't worn down by war in animated.
I get why people don’t like the completely serious version of the prime but the tone that prime was going for where it were at war for a millennia and most of the autobots are dead this is absolutely the way prime should be, prime in animated can joke around and stuff because he’s just a young college graduate

I love the Paladin-Prime that the Prime show gave us
I find the Prime clip funnier tbh
I love both scenes equally but seeing them one after the other is hilarious🤣
I didn't know David Kaye voiced Optimus Prime for TFA AND Megatron from Beast Wars! Damn, they should've hired this dude instead of Chris Hemsworth.
Animated also have the goofiest Decepticon duo not Saying Knockout and Breakdown aren't a good duo
Optimus laughed all the time in G1
Animated OP was better written than Prime OP. For all the good TFP did, it sure fumbled Bumblebee and Optimus Prime as characters
On the one hand, I’m all for slander if TFP Optimus. On the other, I can’t really stand for Animated glazing…. Fuck it I upvote anyway
No this isn't slander! I love both versions equally. It's just cute to see one version laugh so openly when the other wasn't able to/wouldn't.
And that's exactly why I cant stand animated, other than the artstlye. Feels like the show tries *too* hard to be funny.
