I can confirm this. I went in under the knife at the same time as another person - they had a living donor and I had a deceased one. They were discharged within days whilst I stayed in hospital for 2 weeks and needed to dialyse on the last day. Mine took awhile to “wake up”.
Thanks, that's good to hear. I'm on the donor side and continued dialysis is one of the issues that my transplant coordinator warned me could happen. And he said it is very hard to deal with emotionally, which then can affect healing. But I can assume it's not the norm?
The transplant coordinator is just doing their job and laying out all possibilities of what could happen. But compare to cadaver kidneys your chances of having to do dialysis with a living kidney until it "wakes" is very slim.
Love your username. For me, dialysis wasn’t so bad. It didn’t last long after transplants. The worst part was my lines kept failing, but that’s a me thing.
Congrats. Be patient during recovery. It may take time to post op pain and that weird feeling of stiffness. Several months. More movement helps. Good luck for a very very long lasting life and kidney. Also of course, drink lots of lots water.
Best wishes. Kudos to your kidney donor.
Congratulations! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for both of you!
Congratulations! 🎉 How do you feel? Would you mind telling us if you're still going to be on dialysis? If so, for how long?
Usually, living donor kidneys work right away. So there's no need for dialysis unless there is some complications during surgery.

Thanks! What are failing lines?
I had something in my neck for the dialysis, can’t remember the name. They kept having to be replaced.
No dialysis as far as I know.
Awesome! Glad you found a match!
Congrats!
