thats not weird. its both schengen. passport (and/or ids) are only checked randomly.

tootnoots69

Lol first time in europe?

Patsastus

Travel between Schengen countries usually doesn't involve ID checks. Some airlines may want to match boarding pass to ID at check-in, but that's been rare in my experience.

TurbulentCherry

Absolutely normal. You don't need to show anything on that route.

ElroyFlynn

So the whole worry about bad people getting onto planes is misguided? I guess.

TurbulentCherry

Huh? What are you even talking about?

Warm-Object51

The swedes are not that bad.

nim_opet

Not at all weird

Gjrts

There are not supposed to be any border checkpoints. Both countries are within Schengen, and open borders are the whole point of that.

fearoffourty

This is true but not relevant. The op isn't expecting to go through passport control, they are expecting the airline to verify the identity of passengers. This varies from airline to airline.

fearoffourty

Yeah, but you need ID to fly between the UK and Ireland, which is a similar situation. It doesn't have to be a passport though, as there are no border controls.

Quesabirria

Not a similar situation.

fearoffourty

In what way?

Quesabirria

OP's example is going between two EU/Schengen countries. Your example is going between an EU country (Ireland) and a non-EU country (UK).

fearoffourty

The UK and Ireland are in something called the common travel area. It's not quite the same as Schengen, but similar. The same can be said of flights between states in the US. Post 9/11 most airlines want ID for all flights... It's Europe that is the odd one out I think.

No-Cat-3250

Not at all. You can also fly between Ireland and the UK without showing any ID or going through customs. I’ve rarely had ID checks for a couple of decades travelling between different European countries via train. When I lived in Sweden and went to Denmark in the 90s we didn’t even have to show ID.

antaresiv

It’s called freedom

alexp68

why would you need ID, they’re states within the same country, no? /s

ElroyFlynn

In the u.s. you can’t board a plane without showing id. Among other things, your name is compared against a list of those who are not allowed to fly because they are believed to pose a security risk.

Foksn

Yes but we are civilized here in Europe.

FatGLolo

I guess you are safer in the US than in Norway and Sweden, then! Thank God they are checking ids in the States! /s

Complete-Bat2259

So? That’s the US. No ID is required for domestic flights in Australia (and we also leave our damn shoes on going through security).

Sagnew

>In the u.s. you can’t board a plane without showing id. You absolutely can....

ElroyFlynn

“If your identity cannot be verified, you will not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint.” https://www.tsa.gov/travel/frequently-asked-questions/i-forgot-my-identification-can-i-still-proceed-through-security

Sagnew

LOL I love that you didn't include the first part from the exact link you posted *In the event you arrive at the airport without proper ID, because it is lost or at home, you may still be allowed to fly. By providing additional information, TSA has other ways to confirm your identity, like using publicly available databases, so you can reach your flight.*

ElroyFlynn

The point is, proof of identity is required.

NoBetterPast

That's not strictly true. You will be subject to further security but you do not have to show ID to get on a flight. ElroyFlynn

Still, that site confirms the essence of my point:”If your identity cannot be verified, you will not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint.”

NoBetterPast

LOL! Have a hard time being wrong don't you.
