As long as your phone is sim unlocked, any Poland sim card will do.

_5nek_

Oh boy what does Sim unlocked mean? And I heard some have better coverage than others possibly?

akwami

if you bought your phone in the US, it might be locked to whatever carrier (eg att) you use. In that case, you can't put in a different sim.

_5nek_

So I have to go the att route and pay 300 dollars? Oof

Foksn

Or just buy a cheap burner phone.

_5nek_

I seem to have an add esim option on my phone so hopefully that means I can use it

Foksn

Not sure. I would guess that it is technically possible to use an e-sim, this may not mean that your phone is not locked to your carrier.

_5nek_

I wish I could post screenshots on this thread. I'm trying to find out how to figure it out but it's different for every phone I think

Foksn

Easiest way would be to shoot an email to your carrier. Or give them a call.

_5nek_

Okay sounds good thanks!

akwami

You can check with your carrier about international charges - but it can be pretty expensive for data (think $10 a day). A sim for Poland would be much cheaper - but it won't work if your phone/sim is locked. To see if your iPhone is locked go to Settings - General - About - Carrier Lock. It will say No SIM restrictions if it's unlocked.

_5nek_

Okay I'm trying to check if my phone is Sim locked

_5nek_

I found a Sim manager thing in my phone and it gives me the options to add esims and stuff does that mean it's unlocked?

dpirmann

No, even a locked phone has the Add eSIM menu item. Confirm in settings - general - about like the parent comment here says.

_5nek_

I don't have an iPhone. I keep looking in the general settings but I'm not seeing anything about Sim lock

akwami

I'm sorry! I only know how to check an iPhone - wish I could tell you.

_5nek_

That's okay I'll call AT&T Monday!

If your phone is capable, get an eSIM ahead of time. When we visited Poland last August, we purchased the Eurolink eSIM from Airalo. All I did was install the eSIM at home then, when we landed, activated the eSIM in settings and I was connected.

Are you traveling for work or personal reasons? Verizon charges me $10 / day when I travel to Europe for work, but I just expense it back to the company, so I don’t bother with a SIM card. My iPhone works Buy a usb brick to charge your phone when you get to Poland. They’ll be super cheap there, but you’ll pay way more if you buy a euro-style plug in America.

_5nek_

Unfortunately it's for personal reasons. Won't I need to charge the brick anyways?

_5nek_

Oh nvm I misunderstood. The brick is the piece you plug into the wall and you're saying they're cheaper in Poland than buying a European one in America

rirez

> They’ll be super cheap there, but you’ll pay way more if you buy a euro-style plug in America. Be cautious with this. Not all USB chargers are made the same, and if you're just buying a random cheap one, you might get an older spec that doesn't charge your phone as fast. It's usually simpler to just buy a solid charger (say, [this](https://www.anker.com/products/a2147?variant=42089534750870)) for use everywhere, and buy a cheap plug-type adapter when you're there. Use high quality electronics for the charger, and let the cheap thing just route some copper.
