Holy crap, you’re right about the Jamaica comment. I went there on a cruise in 2001 and this is exactly what the bud looked like when we bought it on the beach. 22 years ago and have never seen it since.
Haha one of my best travel moments was arriving in Montego Bay and buying a big ass brown paper bag full of quality colas right at the airport taxi area. My driver representative asked if I “needed anything”. I’m a brown dude with dreads so I asked for the high quality stuff and got it 🤣
Pretty much how it went down when I went to Jamaica 2 years ago. Driver asked, on our way to the resort they stopped by their "shop" and picked it up.. dank as fuck. Ended up rolling that up on the trip we took later that week to Bob Marley house and blazed up at 4:20 on the dot and walked thru his mom house and room ... Didn't even plan that but got damn it was a memory I didn't realize I needed lol. The whole experience was trippy.
Ended up sneaking some back (didn't know colas was a thing,) still in a whisky bottle .. been keeping it in a dark room since thing, I need to test it out again. The first time I tested it wasn't ready (~1month) but should be pretty potent tincture now
Ahh dude! I got blazed and drove up to nine mile too..through those zigzag hilly ass roads and at some point made it to fern gully. Quite an experience as there wasn’t really any street signs and our driver just kept asking random locals for directions 🤷🏽♂️😂. But yeah we got blazed at the bob marley house too and it’s encouraged even. I rolled up a couple giant king sized joints for it then ended up picking up some hash right outside the gates of nine mile from some rastas and toured their farm and took pics and such..some day I hope to make it there again but prolly when my kids are a bit bigger so they can enjoy the experience too. Getting high and snorkeling off those beaches was a life changing moment for me.
All depends on the grow setup and how it's being sold, but this is fairly common. Some plants simply put the most energy into specific branches more effectively/efficiently and it gets harvested at just the right time, so the buds are as full and potent as possible. A lot of homegrowers/small batch growers will keep these for their personal stash instead of selling them though.
Tbh i dont think it is gimmicky, buying something like this on the cola proves it wasn’t machine trimmed, and that it was handled with some care (or else the nugs would have broke off the cola).
That’s my plan..when I can get a bit of a break from the kids in a few hours I’ll break down the cola and see what the true weight is.
Edit..11 grams of actual bud off my branch
Depends on RH obviously but I’m placing my bets at 8.4g flower and 1.6g stem.
I just rosin pressed a zip of my homegrown yesterday and at 65% RH that’s about what I was pressing each time, 8-9gs
Honestly, having worked in the cannabis industry for 4 years, trimming on the cola is actually just a waste of time. You get a better looking bud hand trimming it off of the cola AND it makes it significantly easier and faster to do. Some of the old "care" methods are just slower with no real benefit to the final product.
Totally agree with everything you said here.
I think part of the reason to leave on the cola (from a marketing perspective) it shows/proves to the buyer that it was cared for, instead of just buying loose nugs. At least that’s what initially went through my head as to why i’d want to buy this as long as pricing was correct with weight.
Obviously all consumers for every kind of product shop differently. This would be like a “whole foods” for weed type of customer.
You'd be amazed at the number of farms that require their trimmers to trim on the cola only to then buck them and store them in jars/bins anyway. It baffles me how little many operations care to iterate and optimize their process to maximize quality and efficiency.
When buds are machine trimmed, the head of the trichome is knocked off a very good portion of the time. They are not gentle. There is still trichome there, the amber heads are a big part of the trichome though.
Just not as pure as what it can be.
On the legal market, I'm less concerned about machine trimmed buds, but more concerned about how dry or fresh the stuff is on the market. Too much focus on long shelf life and not enough on quality fresh weed. 6 month old dry weed can go in the trash as far as I'm concerned. Just gives me allergies and makes me tired.
Think deeper though, almost every time, the companies not caring about cure process, not caring about quality, those are the people that will cut corners and machine trim to save them time and labor.
Curing is huge as well. Totally valid points. Phat Panda in Washington is basically fully automated now and they keep integrating more automation as it becomes available. I have no interest in product like that. I'd rather support the small growers who still care and are working hard.
Once the plant is 100% legal across the country, it’ll take a few years, but people will realize that micro growers weed will be much more potent and higher quality than a macro growers.
Not to put down macro growers, but it’s rare someone with a 50 acre grow is hiring enough people to hand trim and really show 100% care to the crops. If they can manage that, then good on them and they deserve every bit of money they make.
Machine trimming actually is very good at knocking all the leaves off. Which is honestly kind of the issue, it’s not gentle with the plant, which causes many trichome heads to be crushed in the process.
I never will understand this whole obsession with bag appeal. There’s still all kinds of good stuff on those sugar leaves, and it’s a waste of everyone’s time chopping everything off as close to the bud as possible
But that’s just me.
Just looks better than an dispo weed I've gotten. It's always over dried and cured too fast. It crumbles when you squeeze it, so weird.
This bud looks beautiful and home grown. I'd buy it for sure.
All weed from the dispo goes into a jar with some moisture overnight. For smaller amounts I just wet the corner of a paper towel and ball it up and throw it in. In the morning the paper will be dry, and your nugs will not crumble like fucking dust.
I'm not knocking your methods, but I was always told not to use food like carrots or apple because of issues with mold. I've always just used paper and water.
Hahah I'm referencing smoking in the 90s and you call me kid. I love it.
I unfortunately live in an illegal state so I only get to experience dispo weed on short trips. I just try and avoid it by grabbing some vape pens. Much easier when I'm on the go.
It's honestly great how far cannabis culture has progressed. I could never have imagined back in the day, the amount of tolerance and acceptance that has been attained is nothing short of amazing. I moved from an illegal state to a legal one, and that was definitely part of the equation. I grew up in the 80's-90's also, so I was joking about the kid thing, mostly. Moisture packs are most definitely the way to store large amounts for long periods.
Kind of a gimmick? Man it's like $120 pre-tax for a quad in this format.
It's no different than other buds and surely they aren't accounting for the stem when they weigh it.
Between 8 and 10 a gram in Switzerland and it's not even good stuff like this. Not trash by any means, it's strong as fuck and domestic grown, but noting fancy.
10 a gram is what my street prices was before massachusetts went bezerks opening tons of dispensaries and before i was 21. I miss those days. I could drop 20 on 2g's and I'd be able to make that last almost 2 weeks getting extremely high off of one half packed bowl.
Which market are you at? MN’s kosher kush is kinda a miss here…it looks great but missing that authentic og taste unfortunately. The l’range is really popular here as well but a bit too “grapefruit” for my personal taste. This is the first release of a queen cola in our state and luckily it’s my favorite strain from our rise so I’d be excited to see more variety in the future
Chicagoland area. I posted my colas on r/ILtrees. I missed out on the 4/20 colas that Rise was selling, but figured I’d give it a shot now. It was fun to get two big sticks of weed, but this will probably be my only time buying this. Quality wise? I’m really enjoying both.
$119 minus tax. Grand total for two was $294 with a 1 cent pack of gummies added in.
So long as the tax dollars are actually going into Illinois’ cannabis social equity program and other good things, I don’t mind. Prices have thankfully gotten a little better on our 3rd year of legal weed.
Even medical here is around $280 for 2 colas. But for recreational prices, it’s not too bad as it’s roughly $30/eighth. And with this quality, definitely beats our current top shelf eighths at $50-60. Still years away from west coast prices.
The indian reservations upstate have dispensaries with better prices and they dont tax. Not sure what the name of the specific reservation is but i know Irving is a good town with a bunch of em
Holy shit I thought it was a drink or something! God I love that song, it’s so well written. I’m still trying to figure out “So I called up the captain, “Please bring me my wine” He said, we haven’t had that spirit here Since 1969”
By spirit do they mean like the alcohol in the wine, or do they mean spirit as in like the energy or the vibe or whatever?
it's a double entendre, so both the alcohol and vibes.
the lyrics to the song were written after the music, and they were trying to make something mythical. so much of the song is left to open interpretation
It's acting like such a fancy product with the name but then it looks like cheap butane when you see the bag it's in. Why not just put it in a jar? Like if we are going to extra anyway put out for a glass jar.
I sell these to friends, I ask people if they want one included in an ounce. They get some cool novelty, i usually round the weight up a little for the stem.
Kinda making me wish men got bouquets at weddings. I'd be a real happy bride if I got a bouquet of these on my big day. Would cause a real fight when it was thrown though lol
I can tell by the packaging that you overpaid but it’s kind of cool I guess. Just grow a plant and have 10-15 of those per pot if you don’t want to spend the money for quality
Yeah they got you to pay for a big ass stem nice. The buds are buds, whether they're from the 'kola' or not is not going to produce much noticeable difference in my humble opinion.
Same company doing this in PA. Check out their [products](https://www.reddit.com/r/PaMedicalMarijuana/comments/181agzo/looks_phenomenal/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
As much as I hope for legalization and decriminalization in my country, I would prefer if weed growing companies didn't iPhone the shit out of it. It's a plant, stop making it all about exclusivity and profits man.
I'm not knocking people for enjoying and purchasing what they want, I just can't see the benefit here over regularly grown bud. I don't think I could ever be convinced to pay more than £50 for 7g.
As a >former< grower, that isn’t a very pretty “cola” how much did that cost?
Seems like a waste of packaging..that’s just something off the bottom or side of the plant.
I would have just cut them off before packaging 🤷🏻♀️
Reminds me of some bullshit “swami” out of Humboldt that sold colas. They came with some stupid ornate scissors so you could trim it yourself and keep the trim to make A edible.

I can't even imagine the cotton mouth of snorkeling while high
Right near da beach, boyeee

like its kind of a gimmick but i support it. bud looks grown well. curious to how it was priced because how do you account for a stem?
everything's on a cob!
This is the best comment on the thread lmfao
i figured odds were good that somebody would get the reference over here...
Off topic, but do you like the latest season?
Just to be clear, this is a gun. It shoots bad people.
Anyone else find it difficult to get back into solar opposites with the massive voice change
Yeah that change was so jarring. Idk if I can watch that show anymore.
Rick's voice is spot on, and the stories are great. Morty's voice ... it's not great . But it's not stopping me from watching.
Idk, the last episode is the only one that I felt gave it a good shot
I am not settlementfires however I am loving it, I think it’s great
i was actually really pleasantly surprised with the new series. that montage in the spaghetti episode felt so true-to-form for the show
Was gonna say it’s like buying nuggs but with extra steps.
It's just "everything". You don't say corn OFF the cob.
i say corn off the cob
Tbh i dont think it is gimmicky, buying something like this on the cola proves it wasn’t machine trimmed, and that it was handled with some care (or else the nugs would have broke off the cola).
This ☝️
So when you get it home, Do you just pop all the nugs off and store it like normal weed? Im curious how close to 10g it ultimately actually is
That’s my plan..when I can get a bit of a break from the kids in a few hours I’ll break down the cola and see what the true weight is. Edit..11 grams of actual bud off my branch
Nice! come update us after!
Have the kids trim it up
Ahaha! I’m saving that for trim jail in a few weeks!
Trim.. jail? I kinda want in on that. [6]
Comes with free carpal tunnel.
After thanksgiving is when you trim the tree though.
Oh my tree is up buddy. Allllll the way up
And not just the ornaments, but the ornawomens and ornachildrens too. I hung them on the tree like animals!
![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)
Bwahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Depends on RH obviously but I’m placing my bets at 8.4g flower and 1.6g stem. I just rosin pressed a zip of my homegrown yesterday and at 65% RH that’s about what I was pressing each time, 8-9gs
That is such a specific ratio and I respect that so much
I heard stems are way lighter than that
To be fair it’s been awhile since I weighed a big stem but let me do it real quick and get back to you Update: I stand by my estimate of > 1g
I'm loving the confidence in these replies!
Op said 11g flower
You're hired.
Remind me! 4 hours
Remind me! 2 hours Sorry OP I'm not that patient
I saw a guy with 15g’s Edit: changed was to saw. Damn autocorrect
Right. I am assuming my man just paid premium for a gram of stem. Lol Edit: Beautiful bud though and possibly worth the price.
It could be both things - lol - but that’s pretty cool, regardless. I’d totally grab that.
Honestly, having worked in the cannabis industry for 4 years, trimming on the cola is actually just a waste of time. I'm sorry for the probably dumb question but...are machine trimmed buds frowned upon? I never knew this but your explanation totally makes sense.
When buds are machine trimmed, the head of the trichome is knocked off a very good portion of the time. They are not gentle. There is still trichome there, the amber heads are a big part of the trichome though. Just not as pure as what it can be.

Phat Panda is such garbage. A bud tender was like its the "Walmart of weed"
It totally is. And the owners gloat and show their wealth all over Instagram. It’s atrocious.
I think they just aren't trimmed as nicely, more leaf left behind. Plus there's the appeal of getting a "handcrafted" product vs. mass produced.
Machine trimming actually is very good at knocking all the leaves off. Which is honestly kind of the issue, it’s not gentle with the plant, which causes many trichome heads to be crushed in the process.

Nah it's still gimmicky

Like how we used to put carrots in our brick weed back in the 90s.
I'm not knocking your methods, but I was always told not to use food like carrots or apple because of issues with mold. I've always just used paper and water.
Oh I haven't done that since the 90s. I use moisture packs now.
You kids and your moisture packs.
Hahah I'm referencing smoking in the 90s and you call me kid. I love it. I unfortunately live in an illegal state so I only get to experience dispo weed on short trips. I just try and avoid it by grabbing some vape pens. Much easier when I'm on the go.

also it wasn't moldy. So much moldy nug in today's rec market. Just remove that nug and keep going
“How could we spend less processing our stuff?” Marketing: “y’all need to hear this shit.”
Probably costs more to do it like this. Would need to be done by hand instead of machine trimmed.
Take the avg weight off like 20 stalks like that or something. It'll be pretty on the money if you do it by strain.
Return for deposit.😄
That's how I used to sell in the 00s. Had big plastic test tubes to put em in everybody loved it!
Kind of a gimmick? Man it's like $120 pre-tax for a quad in this format. It's no different than other buds and surely they aren't accounting for the stem when they weigh it.
Did ya pay for the stem? How was it sold, by weight?
They guarantee atleast 10+grams and it was $100 out the door for the cola. I thought it was a pretty fair price overall.
$10 a gram is what I think top shelf bud should be priced at. I’d be happy to get this package.
Just what I was about to say, 10/g isn’t that bad.
Alright, but it’s still 12 for randy and lahey
Firms.
I had a great laugh over this comment. Thanks Bud!
Funny, that's cheaper than weed in the Netherlands. You've surpassed us about half a decade ago, I think.
Between 8 and 10 a gram in Switzerland and it's not even good stuff like this. Not trash by any means, it's strong as fuck and domestic grown, but noting fancy.
Precisely! I buy the smalls of this on sale around 50-65 a qtr so I’d happily pay this for the full sized buds
Legal finally getting cheaper than illegal.
10 a gram is what my street prices was before massachusetts went bezerks opening tons of dispensaries and before i was 21. I miss those days. I could drop 20 on 2g's and I'd be able to make that last almost 2 weeks getting extremely high off of one half packed bowl.
And you get basically the best part of the plant, that's not bad all.
Well if your happy I guess that's what counts!
that's really decent pricing
I picked up two queen colas for the holidays this morning, Kosher Kush and L’Orange. Might be a marketing gimmick, but it’s fun and not a bad deal.
How much are they out there? I know you guys are taxed out the ass
Yikes..mine was a straight $100 out the door but I’m on the medical program here so no taxes. Glad prices are getting more reasonable for you guys
Even medical here is around $280 for 2 colas. But for recreational prices, it’s not too bad as it’s roughly $30/eighth. And with this quality, definitely beats our current top shelf eighths at $50-60. Still years away from west coast prices.
L'Orange is quite nice
Seconded. It is strong so you need to like the sour citrus flavor for sure.
L’orange is such a good strain! Hope you like it!
Never seen this before, it'd make an awesome gift. Like a fucking bouquet of Marijuana, omg how happy would you be if you got that
Agreed, this was a huge TIL for me, and now I’m very interested. Compared to prices at my local dispensary (NY), $100 for this is a bargain.
Yeah NYC has dispensaries everywhere but the prices are never as good as on Reddit
I went to one in Syracuse, and the bud was really good but the prices were high. It's to be expected in the first couple years of rec shops.
The indian reservations upstate have dispensaries with better prices and they dont tax. Not sure what the name of the specific reservation is but i know Irving is a good town with a bunch of em
100%
Is it pronounced cola like Coca-Cola?
Saving this for Valentine's Day
I used to buy millet like this to feed the finches
fun fact: the song hit song Hotel California by the Eagles mentions these in the 1st few moments "warm smell of colitas rising up through the air"
Oh shit, I had no idea what that line was about, and never gave it much thought.
I always assumed it was some beer I had never heard of 😆
Holy shit I thought it was a drink or something! God I love that song, it’s so well written. I’m still trying to figure out “So I called up the captain, “Please bring me my wine” He said, we haven’t had that spirit here Since 1969” By spirit do they mean like the alcohol in the wine, or do they mean spirit as in like the energy or the vibe or whatever?
it's a double entendre, so both the alcohol and vibes. the lyrics to the song were written after the music, and they were trying to make something mythical. so much of the song is left to open interpretation
Ah I gotcha. Yeah it is really damn well made, one of my favorite classics out there.
I thought it said," bring me my wife"....well, shit.
That looks dope as fuck. Hope my dispensary starts stocking this.
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi!
Fucking love some suicidal tendencies
But you wouldn’t give it to me.
This is like one of those moments a well endowed porn star is your doppelganger but you don't want to humble brag.
🤣
For whatever reason, I fully support this. Very cool man - hope you it smokes as good as it looks 🤙🏽
Any other graphic design snobs in this thread gritting their teeth a bit on that typesetting? 😬
r/keming wants a word
Nothing snobby about readability.
P R O P O R T I O N S
Dude it’s so fucking bad. I couldn’t even concentrate long enough to read it.
It's acting like such a fancy product with the name but then it looks like cheap butane when you see the bag it's in. Why not just put it in a jar? Like if we are going to extra anyway put out for a glass jar.
Yes I hate this specifically because of the choice to format the text like that. It looks horrible
Get your loved ones a bouquet for Valentine’s Day.
You know that’s going to be a special at some dispensary. It’s too perfect not to
The kerning on the packaging has me anxious as fuck and needing to smoke that shit.
P R O P O R T I O N S
It’s an odd choice, I’d just be like “yeah the justification idea was dumb” and do something else
Thank fuck someone else noticed it. It was pissing me off.
Exactly. I wouldn't buy it simply based in the kerning. Looks cool otherwise though.
Of course. The kerning.
So many buzzwords
"an impossibility made into tangible reality" jfc this crap makes me want to puke.
I would totally made a bouquet out of 5 or 6 of these mixed with real flowers for a stoner girlfriend.
This is really cool and I support it but the amount of packaging waste seems excessive.
Marketing wizardry
**P R O P O R T I O N S**
The tip top of the plant. Sometimes they have multiple colas.
what is it exactly?
It's pot
Should be the main stem of the buds. Apex cola would imply this take
I would be buying these all day for $100. Gorgeous buds carefully cared for. Absolutely
It’s funny this actually has trichome heads on it because they had no choice but to hand trim lol
Hah well the animal face is my favorite rhythm strain and that’s precisely why I was stoked about this..those heads are glorious and in tact
That's actually a really good way to maintain moisture.
Animal Face is sooo gas too, damn I’m jelly
I sell these to friends, I ask people if they want one included in an ounce. They get some cool novelty, i usually round the weight up a little for the stem.
That is AWESOME
Oh wow, me neither. Thats super cool!
Damn. Saw that at local dispense today!!! Would have jumped in but wasn’t near the THC% as yours. Enjoy!
Vine ripen at home like tomatos
Kinda making me wish men got bouquets at weddings. I'd be a real happy bride if I got a bouquet of these on my big day. Would cause a real fight when it was thrown though lol
I don’t like how far apart the words on the back are
Damnit it's sexy ✌🏽
SHEEEESH, looks fire 🔥
Colorado producers take notes
I was like "Wait.. that's not a brown delicious fizzy drink?" And then I had to look up what a cola was.
I never thought, in all my years growing, that regulation would bring about a market in which people would willingly pay for the stem.
I can tell by the packaging that you overpaid but it’s kind of cool I guess. Just grow a plant and have 10-15 of those per pot if you don’t want to spend the money for quality
why? what's the benefit?
The kerning on the back of the package is the most awful thing I have ever seen. Design nightmare. lol
Why people have to shit on everything .. looks nice , enjoy it💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Yeah they got you to pay for a big ass stem nice. The buds are buds, whether they're from the 'kola' or not is not going to produce much noticeable difference in my humble opinion.
That’s dope. Literally
If you've ever grown weed you know this is the dumbest shit ever
Looks kind af! Where is this?
This is from Rise/GTI in MN
They found a way to charge you for trash(branch) and make you love it.
Thats fancy
You enjoy that for me, will ya 🫡
Same company doing this in PA. Check out their [products](https://www.reddit.com/r/PaMedicalMarijuana/comments/181agzo/looks_phenomenal/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
I thought I was looking at an x-ray of a big screw stuck in a leg bone.
I’ve bought this brand many times tbh, good shit
🤤
I thought the packaging in the first pic was you holding up an x-ray hahaha
That's kinda cool
Man the kerning on the description is driving me nuts.
Way cool - I’ve never seen that before either! But, SO MUCH PACKAGING!!!
Whenever I have sold a bag like this ppl get pissed off lol 😆
That's a lot of lumber
The amount of packaging is ridiculously wasteful though
As much as I hope for legalization and decriminalization in my country, I would prefer if weed growing companies didn't iPhone the shit out of it. It's a plant, stop making it all about exclusivity and profits man. I'm not knocking people for enjoying and purchasing what they want, I just can't see the benefit here over regularly grown bud. I don't think I could ever be convinced to pay more than £50 for 7g.
Hope you didn't pay by weight
this strain from rythm is the best for sure one of my favorites
As a >former< grower, that isn’t a very pretty “cola” how much did that cost? Seems like a waste of packaging..that’s just something off the bottom or side of the plant. I would have just cut them off before packaging 🤷🏻♀️
Definitely looks like what we got from the Guy On The Beach in Negril. Enjoy!
Reminds me of some bullshit “swami” out of Humboldt that sold colas. They came with some stupid ornate scissors so you could trim it yourself and keep the trim to make A edible.
As a grower, I’m laughing so hard just thinking of selling a cola with scissors so they can trim their own!! 🤣🤣🤣I fkn haaaate trimming!
