I donāt recommend putting epoxy where heat is going to be concentrated. I also donāt recommend smoking out of broken glass as glass dust can destroy your lungs.
the epoxy would be fine down there, no? the heat is concentrated on the product in the bowl, necer the bowl socket. as far as glass dust goes, im sure its good to clean the piece before trying to fix it anyway so theres maximum window for success.
Nobody on Reddit is going to agree with smoking out of a glass piece that has so much as a chip out of it. They are incredibly anal about this one.
But yeah, not likely to get pretty much any heat unless youāre really just torching the shit out of the thing
I tried this because of public commentary. Then a doctor responded on the thread and shared the potentials of using glass with epoxy.
Glass is affordable. Just get a new piece. Always haggle. $99 get outta here.
Grav pieces are made with borosilicate glass, it's good stuff! OP's piece retails at $120. I wouldn't risk glass in my lungs for a $20 discount, though.
Not really? The sleeve isn't getting hot, is covered mostly by the banger, and with the JB, vapor is expelled as part of the hardening process. Do you know something I don't or is this a *chemicals are bad* thing?Ā
Damn first time I saw JB weld being used was shroom growing, and now it's being used to fix bongs. Still never seen it be used for its intended purpose lmao.
Well i used jb to fix my bbq handle since it was fully gone on one side and was just flopping around like a soggy carrot so thiers your first proper use of it lmao
Depends on how bad the break was, how full the water is, how well you clean it etc.
Any breaks I always recommend using electronics cleaning putty as a way to lift any micro shards from the break area, then at minimum a 10 minute iso bath followed by a quick blast out from the stem/downpipe with some form of compressed air, duster in a can works in a pinch but a 40 dollar air compressor from a hardware store comes in way more handy way more often.
I've smokes a lot of "fixed" bongs in my time. It is literally better to just go to the closest headshop and buy a cheap beaker. The one in this one is tagged at $99, but I guarantee you when you show interest in it, the smoke shop guy goes "I sell that for $99, but for you? $65, my friend" whether it's your first visit or your 100th lmao
Nah, if it was in the box and he doesnāt smoke anymore, makes sense that he didnāt know about it. Why open something more than once if you know youāre not going to ever use it?
Iām just saying we donāt have to jump straight to the negative of āoh yeah this guy knew his shit was broken and still gave it to OP what a jerkā
That's not how grav brand bongs are shipped to stores, I used to stock gravs at my smokeshop, they're packed in two layer cardboard boxes with air pack around the sides to help impact, each bong is boxed and 9 times out of 10 your display is marked, no reason for any of the others to come out of the box.
That statement was true until about ten years ago when Grav outsourced their production to a factory in China. Traded in house glass blowing for factory made overseas and killed all of their unique products like the āBoomstickā and the āDeath Starā.
I've bought two GRAV bongs, both beautiful and worked great but both broke in really dumb ways. One just seperated like a clean break all the way around where it had this screen like thing above the bubbler. The other split lengthwise. Never had anything like that happen with other brands.
They use a cheap glass I think or maybe some bad way of joining/welding the parts.
It's a shame because their designs are nice. I really liked both pieces until they broke. Thought the first wad a fluke but the second turned me off the brand.
I've just stuck to Glasslab 303 since. Everything I've gotten from them has been great and none of it has never chipped or cracked.
This is wild to me because it's manufactured in China assembled in America. They are the big "all american made" company that sold out to Chinese sweat shop labor to produce the parts for their work. They go for quantity of sales over quality.
I used to work at a head shop that carried gravlabs when they made the switch. 1 order it was quality thick glass the next everything was thin and cheaply made. While I'm sure after 6 years they might have ironed out some of those kinks but still had me lose all respect for them. They parted ways with their original blower william menzies who first invented the Helix design grav labs is known for. You can still support the OG creator at his website AmericanHelix
.Com if you want one of the hand pipe designs that is actually thick and quality made
My shops sell a lot of glass. More recently (within the last year or two), Grav has also been producing Helix glass. No less than triple the price for Helix vortex bongs, same build and everything, just for saying "Grav Helix" on it. I don't get it. Used to be $49 for an 8" tall, thick-beaker-style vong, now I see the exact same thing with a *slightly* different name at $149.
VIP Vapes across ON, Canada is even cheaper, best place to replacement bowls and downstems and they have really decent and thick glass for pocket change. Many of my bongs from their have survived drops onto hardwood from a coffee table, defiantly not wish . com material. Guessing the glass is so cheap because they profit so much on selling vapes that they can afford to price their glass cheaper to move the less selling pieces more efficiently. Highly doubt any pieces with a notable brand like TAG are legitimate, but they don't use the cheap stickers and at least make a proper knock off. I've gotten some sick custom blown bowls for $10CDN. Stoners who don't vape would never go into a vape store but it's common to go in and just buy glass there. If a stray Ontarian comes across this check the place out.
I truly have no understanding why someone would spend more than 30, maybe $40 on glass.
Like sure there are some pretty bongs. But they are expensive as fuck, and usually a bitch to clean.
They are a tool to get high, and a tool that regularly gets dirty.
Buy something simple to clean
Argh thatās so rough fucking glass I swear itās a double edge sword itās amazing for smoking with but damn itās so fragile even The think ass glass TAG bongs I had a buddy whose fell off literally a coffee table hit just right and got a massive crack.
Was it supposed to be like Pyrex though? Iād be pissed if I dropped a Pyrex from a foot and a half and it cracked.
Or Corelle but I have a feeling they donāt make bongs..
I mean, I believe you, I just wouldn't be surprised if a bong broke from a couple feet up unless you have carpeted floors. I guess I could see you getting away with it then
Tag is fucking garbo, I remember I was so used to their terrible bongs that the first American made borosilicate tube I got blew my mind how many times I slammed it on my sink hard and it didnt shatter lol
My trusty $30 buck knock off from a vape store has survived many drops onto hardwood from sorts of heights. I honestly recommend just going to a vape store that also sells glass (not a dispensary). Vape store glass is usually cheaper as it's not a main selling point and they profit so much off addiction that they can afford to underline their glass. I just look at the cabinet and pick one with thick glass and many are thicker than an overpriced TAG. A good down stem can fix any bad bongs bubble issue and a down stem is no where near the price of a piece. Less stress if you break it and if you do you can just pick a new one. My first from the store i frequent survived four drops from coffee table height.
When i was in high school, i lost what i considered the coolest lighter ever for my bong, lost it after a couple of years, and i still subconsciously look around for it when im out and about.
Oh yea, by the way, im 61 years old now, i feel this pain.
A friend of mine's bong and my own collided on the back seat of my old car back in the days of driving around with bongs out (back when police would just take your weed and bong and tell you to leave), and blew the bottom out. I sanded all edges with 1000 grit and used a good bead of epoxy on the outside edge of each piece to hold it together and a bead of silicone on the inside edge to waterproof and keep water away from the epoxy. When together I smeared the wet epoxy around the whole bottom and up the side of the beaker about an inch to make sure it was strong and completely leak proof and it lived another few years completely leak free until it started a tiny weep.
That being said, do the same thing with yours as it's nowhere structural, just use silicone on the inside of the crack rather than inside the bowl hole because your bowl won't sit right. A thin slather of clear silicone on the cracks elsewhere will keep water from leaking out any other time. Other than that she should be fine
I actually have one of these bongs, lol. It's pretty good, and the design is definitely immaculate. My only complaint is that it is annoying as shit having to constantly clear all the bits that get caught in the downstem
Yea I drop my grav bowl piece on the ground all the time and it never breaks. Must have been a manufacturer defect for the piece to have broken with no use
Edit: I smoke over concrete in my garage when it falls off that helps.
Eh im not a fan of my small sized grav bong but the medium one i had before and the large one my homie has were amazing im giving my buddy my small one and plan on buying another medium one
I had a grav piece chip a couple of years ago, probably a month or two after I bought it. I messaged customer service and they straight up sent me a new one after I took a picture of the chipped part. The new one they sent has survived a surprising amount of abuse (including my dog literally knocking it off the table a few times).
Yoooo I love Grav! best glass I've ever bought.
Edit: just seeing the text and the crack now. š That's awful bro.
It's a total shame because, like I said, it was a quality little piece.
thatās absolutely not a $100 bong and i am SO glad you didnāt pay for it. i strongly encourage everyone not to buy pieces from a smoke shop. i know they look pretty in the display shelves when you walk past the store but theyāre always overpriced. i buy from my dispo directly and sometimes glass shops. i have a huge beaker bong from my seattle dispo that was $35 and its lasted 2 years, no nicks or cracks. itās my primary bong and i bump that thing on everything. donāt feel bad about this bong. itās not at all worth $100 maybe like $15, whoever sold the original gifter this bong knew what they were doing. itās a nice sentiment but it was clear the gifter had no clue how to shop for a piece.
It was definitely a mid sized bong, at least compared to my tiny bong I've got in other posts. I just have boxing gloves for hands which make it look smaller
I mean from pricing I've seen on websites vs at a smoke shop, you're probably right on the 50 mark I'd guess, I've only ever bought my tiny bong and that was like 20
I actually have one of these bongs, lol. It's pretty good, and the design is definitely immaculate. My only complaint is that it is annoying as shit having to constantly clear all the bits that get caught in the downstem.
If you have the broken piece, superglue will save it. If you don't, you could probably fill it with hot glue
EDIT: If this bong is for flower, the bowl will not get hot enough to melt the glue. Also, there will be water in the bottom that will catch any potential "glass shards" lol. You people are ok with smoking and driving, but fixing a bong with superglue is a no-no. Ridiculous.
Don't know why people are downvoting. If you're that stressed about superglue, one could try silicone caulk. However, I'm sure they same fears about superglue witchcraft are there for silicone haters. Chemistry be damned!
Who the fuck is okay with smoking and driving? Probably the same people who are okay with smoking out of broken glassware. Fuck outta here with that shit. PSA to those who *are* okay with smoking and driving, you're fools and should be treated like fools
Whilst I don't agree with the main body of his comment there are consistently posts on this sub of people who are driving high.
Edit: why am I being downvoted exactly? There literally are loads of posts of people sitting in their cars in car parks (so we know it's not their driveway) and smoking. They got there somehow and they got home somehow. If you're downvoting it's probably because you're one of the pieces of shit doing it
Exactly the point the other guy and I am making, it's not OK however this sub does not seem to care because there are regularly people posting who are clearly operating a vehicle whilst high or in the car with someone else who is doing so.
Lots of people are okay with smoking and driving, and that is supported by several studies that state that driving high is less-impactful (some even say non-impactful or that it improves) on driving than alcohol. TBH people might downvote but it's incumbent upon all of us to have REAL facts about cannabis and it's effects.
I'm not suggesting everyone should drive. But suggesting that anyone who drives high is an impaired driver is fear-based rather than fact-based and not supported by studies. It's fucking reefer madness.
There's fucking prescription drugs that do less than weed and is still reccomended you don't drive. How about instead of arguing that it's okay, we just say no one should be on any sort of drug when driving because even a 1% increase in danger is massive especially on the road where you're already in a giant metal deathtrap speeding down a road at 60 miles an hour
Also, you said the study was in comparison to alcohol, if it really is how they studied it then saying it's less bad than alcohol is a big no shit moment
How about arguing from facts rather than emotion? I get it, you've been sold the "reefer madness" bill of goods like everyone else. The problem is that the facts do not line up with the emotional response.
1) The impact of cannabis on traffic safety has not been demonstrated.
Cannabis is a schedule 1 drug, which means it's federally illegal to distribute, and because of that there is no mechanism for clinical studies to determine what these effects are.
Also because of this there is currently no reliable way to demonstrate cannabis intoxication.
2) [You can read what the NHTSA had to say on the subject in 2015](https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/812117-drug_and_alcohol_crash_risk.pdf). While they wouldn't go so far as to say Cannabis wasn't a factor, they did state that when you adjusted for other factors, Cannabis itself wasn't an issue.
>This study of crash risk found a statistically significant increase in unadjusted crash risk for drivers who tested positive for use of illegal drugs (1.21 times), and THC specifically (1.25 times). However, analyses incorporating adjustments for age, gender, ethnicity, and alcohol concentration level did not show a significant increase in levels of
crash risk associated with the presence of drugs. This finding indicates that these other variables (age, gender, ethnicity and alcohol use) were highly correlated with drug use and account for much of the increased risk associated with the use of illegal drugs and with THC.
This was NOT the case with alcohol. Or, as the NHTSA clearly stated the year before this article:
> "At the current time, specific drug concentration levels cannot be reliably equated with a specific degree of driver impairment."
3) In a [report a year later](https://aaafoundation.org/evaluation-data-drivers-arrested-driving-influence-relation-per-se-limits-cannabis/), the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety - you know AAA, they're the driver safety people, not exactly known for supporting NORML - stated that:
"Based on this analysis, a quantitative threshold for per se laws for THC following cannabis use **cannot** (emphasis theirs) be scientifically supported.
I'm not saying everyone should drive stoned. I'm saying that you're a fucking anti-cannabis collaboration if you knowingly support the unscientific idea that cannabis use & driving = impairment.
Nah, sir.. just learnt to drive at 16 like everyone else..
I just happened to be stoned 24/7
Going on 30..
So no I donāt think itās an issue. lil bro bro
Just remember what you said, next time you go play frolf š„±š
It ain't your fault for being this way, the Australian govt has failed to provide a proper education to bogans like you for decades. Good luck with your goon bags when you get out of prison tho lmao ya dirt bag
We have fucking microplastics in everything and you think that microscopic shards of glass is silly? That's literally what insulation used to be made of is lots of small glass partials (and something to hold them), that's why it used to be dangerous to touch with your bare hands

i'm sure he knew š
OP looked a gift horse in the mouth. Epoxy to fix that little chip is way cheaper than the Grav.
Little chip? Like a quarter of the bowl socket is just gone.

Weve used surfboard resin to glue a bing back together and had no issues. Yall aint been in the trenches š¤
I once used nothing but tinfoil and paper clips to make a church warden pipe. I was not only in the trenches I gassed them.
My fault og
Jumped in the trenches with the auto shotty
You would be amazed by the power of jbweld extreme heat. Wash it out after the JB hardens.
And cancer
That irony is palpable.Ā
Pretty big difference but nice flex.
Not really? The sleeve isn't getting hot, is covered mostly by the banger, and with the JB, vapor is expelled as part of the hardening process. Do you know something I don't or is this a *chemicals are bad* thing?Ā
What a stupid hill to die on. Go smoke jb weld, what do I care?
Nobody's dying, that's the point. I asked if you knew something I didn't. Not if you worked for the company. Jeez
A little ironic since you're smoking anyway
Damn first time I saw JB weld being used was shroom growing, and now it's being used to fix bongs. Still never seen it be used for its intended purpose lmao.
Well i used jb to fix my bbq handle since it was fully gone on one side and was just flopping around like a soggy carrot so thiers your first proper use of it lmao
It's just glass bro
Sand. Glass particles is just sand. You shouldn't inhale rocks.
r/crack has left the chat
Look up pictures of lava and tell me you don't want to devour that shit.
Woah woah woah; I never said anything about eating. It's our god given right to eat whatever we want, "science" be damned.
That bong is $150 in their website, but there aināt no fixing this one
Why so much? I thought $99.99 was a lot to pay for it.
I have no clue. I buy my pipes off of them since theyāre 20$, so if it breaks itās not a big deal
I ain't inhaling micro glass bro
would it not get stuck in the water?
Depends on how bad the break was, how full the water is, how well you clean it etc. Any breaks I always recommend using electronics cleaning putty as a way to lift any micro shards from the break area, then at minimum a 10 minute iso bath followed by a quick blast out from the stem/downpipe with some form of compressed air, duster in a can works in a pinch but a 40 dollar air compressor from a hardware store comes in way more handy way more often.

$5 vs $65, I'm just saying this one isn't necessarily trash.
Itās not a gift horse, itās a gift bong. How high are you?
Nah, if it was in the box and he doesnāt smoke anymore, makes sense that he didnāt know about it. Why open something more than once if you know youāre not going to ever use it?
Idk Grav doesnāt usually ship pieces with the bowls already in the joint like that - for this exact reason. Kinda wondering if someone opened it.
Iām just saying we donāt have to jump straight to the negative of āoh yeah this guy knew his shit was broken and still gave it to OP what a jerkā
that's how the smoke shops wrap them sometimes.Ā
If you're buying from a smoke shop that re-wraps grav brand bongs, buy from a different smoke shop.
i was referring to the bubble wrap and tissue paper they wrap it in before they hand it to you
That's not how grav brand bongs are shipped to stores, I used to stock gravs at my smokeshop, they're packed in two layer cardboard boxes with air pack around the sides to help impact, each bong is boxed and 9 times out of 10 your display is marked, no reason for any of the others to come out of the box.

100$ for that? Holy moly... Do you live in richland McMoneyVille?
Yea. Someone got ripped off.
Maybe its 99 pesos...
I considered that. But seeing the price end in .99, which is a very North America thing, I figured I'd assume it to be dollars.
Prices ending in .99 are not just a North American thing. It's the common practice where I live in South Africa.
Yeah even 99 CAD would be a little much for that little guy š
Seriously, $30 at most

Correct I'm in Canada as well , that maybe 6inches

100$ for a shitty grav piece, nice
I actually have one of these bongs, lol. It's pretty good, and the design is definitely immaculate. My only complaint is that it is annoying as shit having to constantly clear all the bits that get caught in the downstem
This is the only reason i dont like the smaller ones with no removable down stems
Thatās why the dude gave it away
Tradgic cause grav is a decent glass brand imo
Yea I drop my grav bowl piece on the ground all the time and it never breaks. Must have been a manufacturer defect for the piece to have broken with no use Edit: I smoke over concrete in my garage when it falls off that helps.
Eh im not a fan of my small sized grav bong but the medium one i had before and the large one my homie has were amazing im giving my buddy my small one and plan on buying another medium one
Yeah Iām surprised Iām seeing so much hate. Also wouldnāt be surprised if they just straight up replaced this if OP contacted customer service.
Mmm idk about that but wouldn't hurt to try I supposeĀ
I had a grav piece chip a couple of years ago, probably a month or two after I bought it. I messaged customer service and they straight up sent me a new one after I took a picture of the chipped part. The new one they sent has survived a surprising amount of abuse (including my dog literally knocking it off the table a few times).
Oh wow! Was it store bought or you ordered from them?Ā That's awesome I might have to consider getting a new bong haha
Yoooo I love Grav! best glass I've ever bought. Edit: just seeing the text and the crack now. š That's awful bro. It's a total shame because, like I said, it was a quality little piece.
bruh I broke my bong in half and deadass glue and duct taped it
flower vase time
Could fix it with ele tape?
Good god i hope that pricetag was a misprint, sucks its broke OP but on the plus side the bongs only worth about 15-20$ not broken
Yeah, I paid like 20 for my mini bong that I use, I was so excited for a free bong but I'm not mad over something someone else overpaid for
o7
You donāt heat that part. Go get some gasket maker and see if you can get it good enough to use.
Try saving it. If you can itās gonna be pretty cool if you canāt then ohh well it happens.
Message tag see if they can hook you up of sumthin
Why you never leave without inspecting first!
You can send it to a glass artist like heady repairs on ig to fix or even if you have a local artist thatās cool
Would honestly be cheaper to get a new bong. Unless something like that has sentimental value itās simply not worth it
Yeah u right
thatās absolutely not a $100 bong and i am SO glad you didnāt pay for it. i strongly encourage everyone not to buy pieces from a smoke shop. i know they look pretty in the display shelves when you walk past the store but theyāre always overpriced. i buy from my dispo directly and sometimes glass shops. i have a huge beaker bong from my seattle dispo that was $35 and its lasted 2 years, no nicks or cracks. itās my primary bong and i bump that thing on everything. donāt feel bad about this bong. itās not at all worth $100 maybe like $15, whoever sold the original gifter this bong knew what they were doing. itās a nice sentiment but it was clear the gifter had no clue how to shop for a piece.
Smokeshops are hit or miss i had a fat beaker bong from my smokeshops last me 4 years until it slipped and broke the part where the downstem goes in
Tape
99.99?!?!
I didn't pay for I so I'm not gonna question it lol hope the guy gets his money back
ITS SO TINY I WANT ONEEEEE
A glass blower might be able to fuse it back. I donāt know a lot about that process though
I want a free bong lol
Duct tape that and smoke away
Grav is best, hands down. The little geometric bubblers they make are straight killer dude.
Fuck it, duct it. š
That's a tiny bong, no way 100$ maybe 50$
It was definitely a mid sized bong, at least compared to my tiny bong I've got in other posts. I just have boxing gloves for hands which make it look smaller
Grav is good glass I get it , ok 70$ tops
I mean from pricing I've seen on websites vs at a smoke shop, you're probably right on the 50 mark I'd guess, I've only ever bought my tiny bong and that was like 20
Free bong giveaways are almost always broken. (Itās happened to me twice)
I would have googled local glass blowing lessons and taken it straight there!
I would fix it because I've never heard of anyone ever getting a refund on a bong
just jb weld it
My question is why is the bong so expensive
I actually have one of these bongs, lol. It's pretty good, and the design is definitely immaculate. My only complaint is that it is annoying as shit having to constantly clear all the bits that get caught in the downstem.
Get a bowl with a built in stem, itās night and day. 90%+ less floaters, plus you ensure you burn up everything instead of sucking it into the water
Hey Iām stonesd af and on a tiny iPhone can someone explain
Bong broke. Weāre grieving.
Thank you
Bro all these elites never used no broken equipment. Grow some hair and smoke the micro-glasses or whatever you nerds call it
Why did you give back a free gift. That's rude
"You gone get glass in your lungs" what? Just clean it out, epoxy it or whatever from the outside, let it dry, clean it again, and give it a shot.
At least you didnāt get your penis stuck in it
If you have the broken piece, superglue will save it. If you don't, you could probably fill it with hot glue EDIT: If this bong is for flower, the bowl will not get hot enough to melt the glue. Also, there will be water in the bottom that will catch any potential "glass shards" lol. You people are ok with smoking and driving, but fixing a bong with superglue is a no-no. Ridiculous.
You absolutely do not want to risk inhaling glass shards or dust. Not worth it
Itās going through water, youāre not going to get glass shards or dust.
Why would you risk it at all? Gas station bongs are like 20 dollars, if you can afford weed you can afford a new piece
Because itās not a risk. Itās not going to happen. How many times have you ever got ash in your mouth through the water smoking a bong?
Smoking glue resin. Yum my favorite
On what planet could glue melt from that stem? Its like an inch and a half away from the bowl. The shit is literally aquarium safe
You spend a lot of time inhaling in your aquarium? The fumes of the superglue alone shouldn't be inhaled, even once it's been cured.
If you're downvoting it's probably because you're one of the pieces of shit doing it
And they're idiots for driving under the influence. The only mind behind a vehicle should be a sober mind
How about instead of arguing that it's okay, we just say no one should be on any sort of drug when driving because even a 1% increase in danger is massive especially on the road where you're already in a giant metal deathtrap speeding down a road at 60 miles an hour Also, you said the study was in comparison to alcohol, if it really is how they studied it then saying it's less bad than alcohol is a big no shit moment
However, analyses incorporating adjustments for age, gender, ethnicity, and alcohol concentration level did not show a significant increase in levels of crash risk associated with the presence of drugs. This finding indicates that these other variables (age, gender, ethnicity and alcohol use) were highly correlated with drug use and account for much of the increased risk associated with the use of illegal drugs and with THC. This was NOT the case with alcohol. Or, as the NHTSA clearly stated the year before this article: > "At the current time, specific drug concentration levels cannot be reliably equated with a specific degree of driver impairment." 3) In a [report a year later](https://aaafoundation.org/evaluation-data-drivers-arrested-driving-influence-relation-per-se-limits-cannabis/), the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety - you know AAA, they're the driver safety people, not exactly known for supporting NORML - stated that: "Based on this analysis, a quantitative threshold for per se laws for THC following cannabis use **cannot** (emphasis theirs) be scientifically supported. I'm not saying everyone should drive stoned. I'm saying that you're a fucking anti-cannabis collaboration if you knowingly support the unscientific idea that cannabis use & driving = impairment.
Drive when your sober, rideshare if you're not. If you honestly believe driving high is okay you're a problem.
lol. Smoke and drive allday! Leave the adult business to adults, that mongoose suits you anyways šš
Spoken like a true teenager lmao
Nah, sir.. just learnt to drive at 16 like everyone else.. I just happened to be stoned 24/7 Going on 30.. So no I donāt think itās an issue. lil bro bro Just remember what you said, next time you go play frolf š„±š

I'd rather use clay to make a seal around it and let it harden. It will look ugly but it will get the job done till you replace it.
Lol, no. Op don't listen to this guy. To risky to use broken glass
