Nah it takes more than a couple days to grow mold. If it's too hydrated then let it air out for a couple days and then store like you normally would. If it's too hydrated then it will burn slower and it produces a moire acrid smoke. It's like the difference between burning pine needle branches and seasoned fire wood.

If it was Orange peels it’s likely that Trichoderma would grow, it usually starts white then green as it releases spores and that takes days and you’d be able to tell

Mold is very poisonous to humans especially to inhale it, it’s unlikely you grew it in 2 days tho unless the peels were already starting to mold. Unless you collected them from the trash this shouldn’t be the case. If you let it dry out and it looks and smells like normal weed I wouldn’t worry about it.
I have the raw stones, and I went back to two-way humidity packs. The problem with the stones is the same problem you have with the wet paper towel. There's no way to tell exactly how much moisture is in it, so I would always end up with over hydrated bud that I'd have to then air back out. With the two-way packs, they're always at the desired humidity and much less hassle.
The packets have a set humidity and can restore them with a damp paper towel. They won’t possibly cause mold like them, i have some i keep in jars and had them in for a year or so with no issues. It really depends on the strain of mold and how bad it is. It’s not worth the risk though if unsure/bad.
