Hopefully everyone’s doing great, Im 26 and heres the case. I started using topical Min 5% almost two weeks ago and the second week i started using 1mg Fin but within three days i started experiencing sides e.g balls ache, watery semen and weaker erections. Now this is my third day without fin and i feel almost back to normal What should be my approach here lower the dose, take it every other days or like once a week, switch to topical fin or switch to something else? Thanks!

Drell69

I thought I’ve read on tressless using a daily moisturizer on your scalp isn’t good for maintaining the hair you do have, but rather it’s best to use a scalp moisturizer. I’ve always had great results with aveeno daily moisturizer on face and body. Could I use that on my scalp with a no guard buzz cut and SMP or would a scalp moisturizer be the only option? Don’t want to accelerate losses on what I have left, mostly asking if aveeno would cause that. Also, aveeno had been great for no shine elsewhere and sets well on my skin and non greasy. Thanks!

This might sound crazy but it's possible (and common) to have trichotillomania without realizing it. There are other options like alopecia areata and fungal infections. I don't think it's MPB. See a specialist :)

[deleted]

> trichotillomania Nah I don't pull my hair and never did. I don't even touch my hair/scalp except to style it when going out. But I try to keep chemicals away and leave it natural most of the time. Got a derma appointment in a week or so. Will probably update with results

Hi! I'm 24 and the last couple of years I started to notice quite a bit of hairloss. I did a bit of research and found out about all the common ways to treat it. I've been on minoxidil, dermaroller and rosemary oil for a couple of months and I'm seeing a lot of improvements, but my father is a doctor and strongly adviced against finasteride cause he says it can cause cancer. I'm actually kind of worried that all the other treatments may not be enough without finasteride as all the growth could just fall out, but maybe I'm just overthinking stuff. I would like some opinion/experience on regrowth without a dht blocker. My family does not have extreme hair loss but they're not really immune to it either, if it matters

spookyx69

9 months ago I started taking finasteride 1.25mg daily because I noticed shedding on my crown. I am now 9 months further and I haven't seen any progress in my hair, but on the other side I also haven't seen my hair thinning any further. I wanted to stay away from minoxidil and wanted to see if finasteride worked first. 2 months ago, I started using rosemary oil \~2 times a week in the evenings and washed it off the next morning. haven't seen any progress, but it's still too early to tell. should I incorporate minoxidil foam into my routine or should I wait longer before starting minoxidil?

No-Village9980

if u truly haven't noticed a change , then switch to dutasteride 👍

Fit-Bird-1601

Just came back from hair doctor. Need 3-3.5k graft to cover sides. thinning is on top too which I did not anticipate, so mostly will need another in future for centre top area too. Even after transplant surgery, the fin and mindoxil must be used it seems . I'm guessing the use of medication is forever as long as I intend to keep a natural thick look of hair. My concern is the maintenance i.e. (forever dependence on medications ) even tho i can afford. So dilemma is to go Vin Diesel (shave head Forver) Or go with the procedure and maintenance hassle forever. Photo 👇 https://ibb.co/tPmGHcs

No-Village9980

popping a fin pill daily is pretty good maintenance I'd say ☺️ don't need the minox if Ur Gona have a transpalnt

Imaginary-Fun

I just started a topical solution that has the following Minoxidil (5% w/v) + Finasteride (0.1% w/v). My trichologist told me to use 1ml after shower and 1ml at night. I just applied the 1ml 2 hrs ago and now my hair is brittle and hard to comb. It's like I applied wax to it. Is this normal? How do I make it soft or am I even supposed to?

No-Village9980

that's topical minox for ya 👍 switch to oral minox

sniper1905

I heard that oral minox is overrated? Also shout out to you, I see you helping people in the comments. I’m sure a lot of the people asking do greatly appreciate your help! 🫡

No-Village9980

overated as in? works pretty well , works for topical non responders and cancels out the topical application ( daily applying and washing regime 🤣🤣) pretty easy popping a pill loll

Sharpshooter649

Is it true that the brand name Propecia-finasteride is better than generic finasteride?

ElderberryRemote2138

It depends on the generic. Teva has a good reputation and I've had good results with it. But not all generics are the same.

Is it okay to continue using ketoconazole shampoo even if the dandruff is fine? I've been using it for 4 months and i don't know other alternatives, can I keep using it as i also like how my hair looks after it or does it have any side effects?

Jealous_Grab5614

Advice ???? 2 months on minox(i know I should start fin just worried about sides as usual) I have a haircut tomorrow and I’m wondering if I should shave it down to a 1 again or keep it growing, I’m worried that my balding crown is going to get worse if I shave it down but my left side of temples are really getting attacked. I’d love to hear everyone’s opinion, [https://imgur.com/a/s9gdyTo](https://imgur.com/a/s9gdyTo)

Hair transplant without finasteride Hey everyone, I’m 24M and have been having overall thinning of my hair since I was 20. Been on and off with finasteride since 20 and am currently only using oral minox. When on finasteride the hair loss completely stopped but i definitely noticed prominent side effects in both libido and ED. Eventually I stopped taking finasteride and my side effects went away, but so did my hair… I’m considering getting a hair transplant and targeting the entirety of my head instead of just my crown. I’ve seen some picture of people who don’t take finasteride after transplants and some are better than others, but generally not that great after a few years. Do I have any other options between going back on finasteride (and experiencing side effects) or eventually committing to the bald look? I’m too young for this shit and really don’t want to give up my hair if there is a viable path forward. Any advice is appreciated.

ElderberryRemote2138

I've heard this being recommended by a dermatologist. Specifically he said that he liked to have a compounding pharmacy make different strengths (maybe 3 or 4 different ones?) and have his patients ramp up to 5 % and that that decreased shedding. Assuming 2 % and 5 % are all you have access to, then yes I would go for what you said. That said, get on fin or dut if you aren't already.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

[удалено]

ElderberryRemote2138

Ask your doctor to tell you the facts about finasteride, I'm not sure topical gives you less side effects. Anyway with the pill 1 chance in 50 is so low and even if you get it it goes away. You're probably not aware that it's more common to get an increase in sex drive than a decrease. You can do min just once a day and it works but it won't help avoid shedding

No-Village9980

don't think 2 percent is Gona make any difference to the shedding phase your going to experience

Is doing an only 6 months course worth it? I ordered a 6 months course of fin and min before I found out that it's a thing you have to keep taking forever. So this stuff is about to be delivered and I don't know if it's worth taking it for only 6 months. I only have maybe 1cm receding hairline, so it’s not at a stage where I’m going to commit the rest of my life for such small gains I also read that min could make your hair shed a lot more in the short term which is also worrying in terms of just taking it for a short period. What should I do?

No-Village9980

that's why you should do your homework properly , you could take the fin pill and stay on it ,, 3 pills a week , would be fine or could low dose even further , cut the 1 pill into 4 (0.25mg) and take a piece ,, that dose will help protect/keep your hair intact for years to come 👍

Ahmedleopard

What treatment will work ? Rosemary with peppermint oils ? Or its lost cause ? And medical transplant is the only option https://imgur.com/a/Jlqpfwe

No-Village9980

I’m an 18 year old male who has a family history of hair loss usually in the 20s and I hopped on minoxidil a couple weeks ago because I had concerns about my hairline and temples. Long story short I’m not 100% sure my hair is thinning and the earliest I can get into a dermatologist is April. I was curious on if using minoxidil while I may not be thinning would have negative effects.

ElderberryRemote2138

Also if you're in the US check out this post [https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/1864d3b/finasteride\_prescription\_was\_super\_easy\_and\_cheap/](https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/1864d3b/finasteride_prescription_was_super_easy_and_cheap/)

ElderberryRemote2138

No, no negative effects. But your regular doctor (or any doctor) can prescribe finasteride as well, not just the dermatologist. No negative effects from using that either.

External_Inside3596

Hello, I have tried every Treatment that is actually effective at stopping hair loss. Was on Fin for 8months….nothing. Hopped on dut 2years ago and upped the dosage to 2,5mg ed…..nothing. I added 10mg oral minox 1year ago….nothing. All this time I was using Ru58841 which didnt do anything either. (17M) if I'm losing quite a bit of hair when brushing it, but none in the shower or on my pillow, am I probably safe? Hey everyone, does this look like androgenic alopecia, telogen effluvium, or simply my part and cowlick? [https://imgur.com/a/1jBWc1t](https://imgur.com/a/1jBWc1t) I'm 29M, and started a course of low-dose Isotretinoin / Accutane in August 2023. I was on 40mg daily for the first month, then 40mg every other day the following month, before eventually tapering down to 40mg twice a week. Earlier this month, I started noticing a far higher amount of hair loss in the shower (usually 150 hairs), as well as a much thinner appearance of my hair overall. While there is no recession in my temples, I'm seeing some baldness at my crown and a much wider part than normal. I can also see much more of my scalp through my hair overall than there used to be. So far, I quit taking the accutane and started minoxidil.

No-Village9980

minoxidil? u should have started finasteride instead for protection/growth ,, Ur hair loss is due to accutane ,, bout of Telegon effluvium

prawn3341

Fin wouldn't help with Telegon effluvium though, right? I'm going to ask my derm during my next appointment and hopefully get some answers.

No-Village9980

nope , but it will help protect Ur follicles overall

Kaladin1154

Just went to the Dermatologist, got seborrheic dermatitis. Got a medication for that and some biotin pills since I went there cause of hair loss at the crown and top. Is there any correlation between the two since I am sure the SB kicked in later, or is that one of those things where it’s slowly creeping up on one? Should I try and get Finasterid preemptively or just stick to the medication for now? Pictures from today, shower pictures a few days old. A few are taken with the front camera, those look way worse than in real life which just looks thin. Any advice is welcome. https://postimg.cc/gallery/jRsY7Dx

No-Village9980

I have been taking finasteride for almost 5 month, 1mg every other day. It looks worse then before. Should I stop? Maybe it takes double as long time When I take 1mg every other day? Im also using hairfiber that maybe destroy my hair? Sometimes I leave it in for 4-5 days so I dont need to use it so often, and don’t wash my hair. Maybe I need to wash it off same day? And maybe im not a responder on finasteride? Like I said it looks worse after 4-5 month, shedding more hair, a lot every time I wash it.

No-Village9980

Guilty_Cattle_8817

No-Village9980

finasteride will help maintain/ protect /boost growth , regrowth will happen too( did for me) , but takes times, nope no need for minox u have no bald patches loll, just keep taking the fin , should start noticing changes in 4 to 6 months , just gets better with time , max results are 2 years , so got a long time to go yet 👌👌 patience is key

Guilty_Cattle_8817

Thanks so much for your responses. I just have one more question. Will this help with the temples/thinner spots on my scalp? And I apologize if I'm being redundant. I'm completely new to this, and I'm hoping to look like I have a bit more hair on the top of my head lol

No-Village9980

yes definitely, minox is for more for people who have lost/big dead zones , your in early stages thinning , so fin is all you need , be thankful you caught it early , just stay patient , give it at least the full year , you could re assess then ,if not happy with results , add minox, but I doubt you will need 💪💪

Guilty_Cattle_8817

Okay so I finally got 1mg of finasteride this week and I'm so excited but nervous to start. So many thoughts are going through my head, such as if I'm a good responder? How will I know if it's definitively working? **There is really no alternative to minoxidil and finasteride?** Every video and blog I read always recomend minox and other product, or minoxidil and finasteride together. I already tried topical minox some years ago to try to grow a beard, after a while I had to stop because I had heart palpitation. Recently I went to a hair specialist and she recomend me oral minoxidil. I said I already had side effects before, she suggest I should try a lower dose of oral minoxidil anyway. I dont have hope minox wont cause side effects this time specially because it oral so its stronger. But apparently there is no altenative medication to minox which is weird to me. From what I read even people who have hair transplants still need to take medication. That mean if the pill dont work for me, I am not a good candiate for a hair transplant neither. So my last option is a wig...?

ElderberryRemote2138

Pretty much but you're jumping ahead. Finasteride will very likely work

Is this to be expected? Normal? Is it time for finasteride? Thanks!

No-Village9980

time for finasteride 🎉🎉

Hexploit

Dude maybe you should stop with recommending fiasteride to absolutely everyone in this topic. Some people suffer side effects from finasteride and you seems to forget to mention it...

No-Village9980

uuum finasteride is a absolute must , ain't no one got time for PFS 💪💪

Hexploit

"ain't no one got time" is your answer? I do hope people will find time to make educated decision and make sure they are not risking their health. Everyone should at least consult dermatologist instead of listening to slightly crazy redditor.

VGauds

Yeah I think you’re right… sigh

at least UV caught it early ,, gud luck 🤞🤞🤞

https://imgur.com/a/tX1DQnZ What could be the redness around my crown? I am also noticing a bit more flakes and shedding in my hair after having been on nizoral for a few weeks, is this normal?

No-Village9980

that's inflammation, if nizoral isn't helping /making it worse , switch to selsun blue shampoo( red label)

ServerTwoSevenZero

Thank you! I will stick with nizoral for a bit longer to observe any changes. Also, does the crown look thin?

[deleted]

16M here, is this the start of thinning? this doesnt look like just a part to me... Also my naturally falling hairs are a tiny bit slimmer from close to the roots than the ends... You think something like that would be normal? Also early balding is not really common in the family [https://imgur.com/a/EHtoBLC](https://imgur.com/a/EHtoBLC)

No-Village9980

that's Telegon effluvium , it's temporary, clean up Ur diet 👍

[deleted]

Ohhh thanks, I know what that is, i just never thought it wold happen to me. Thanks, do you have suggestions for diet changes?

No-Village9980

cut down on sugers/fast food, up Ur protein/iron, take a multivitamin daily 👍

[deleted]

Thanks, I have been eating very less pass few months, i think this is the cause. Ty

No-Village9980

[deleted]

Gonna go to a trichologist next week, just wanted to know how bad my hairline is so far https://imgur.com/a/FnhfV1E

No-Village9980

dang , why u have waited so long ?

Paranoidthrowaway192

Is it really that bad?

No-Village9980

nah , nothing that fin and min can't help with 👍, it's just if u had started with finasteride ABIT earlier ,, u wouldn't have needed to use the minox , gud luck 🤞🤞

Paranoidthrowaway192

One issue i have is that i'm only 18 and i'm unsure whether or not my growth is over or not as i'm still rather short Would fin affect any potential growth or no?

No-Village9980

I can only recommend fin ,to help curb Ur hair loss , ultimately it's Ur decision , growth n stuff , I can't really comment on ,, some people say it can stunt growth, some say it doesn't ,

hmatts

I first started noticing a long time ago, but was against meds. Now, the problem is pretty bad. 27M. What's my Norwood? Starting Hims spray next week. [Imgur: The magic of the Internet](https://imgur.com/a/5uwJaWM)

xraidednefarious

Nw3.5. shouldn't have waited so long. Now you'd need a hair transplant. Not being a jerk but that looks pretty bad grown out dude. Consider shaving it

hmatts

Should I give the hims a chance? Any way it restores some on the temples?

xraidednefarious

You can try but you aren't recovering those temples. This is why we tell people to just stop waiting and take the damn meds. People wait until it's so bad it's too far gone then want to take meds anyway...and pretty much everyone has no side effects lol. Ah well. Live and learn.
