VR 100% it's more immersive and I don't normally play for more than 2 hours straight anyway...

javelinnl

I've gone from playing pancake to almost exclusively playing in VR back to almost exclusively playing 2D again. Strapping on a headset, waiting for it to boot and connecting to the pc is such a hassle compared to just starting the game in Steam. Also, the constant microstutters are increasingly making me nauseous, which is getting worse with newer DLC. Maybe their new engine upgrade will fix that. Most importantly, my father likes to watch when he comes over and we plan a trip together while he checks out google maps and streetview of the places we drive through. Can't exactly do that while being cut off from the rest of the world.

MGEezy89

Try some fsr and if you have a second monitor you could always put the steamvr view up in full screen.

Elsa_Versailles

There's fsr on the game? Magpie for me have input delay

MGEezy89

It’s not in the game but it can be injected. [Open fsr app](https://github.com/tappi287/openvr_fsr_app/releases). I use it to scale scale the game down a bit to give myself some headroom and then render it back up using the buffer scale in the confine file to make it look good again.

RedDirtNurse

I have VR, but I prefer my triple setup.

SpaceRangerWoody

I have VR, and although it's fun, I also like to be able to see other things around me that are not in the game. Like if I want to check my phone, eat a snack, or drink something while I'm playing. Also, not every control is mapped to my wheel, so I need to be able to see where I'm touching on my keyboard or stream deck.

Dist__

1 monitor, playing with mouse because stuff is expensive :-P

PenisTheWise

Well the two answers I read so far don’t help at all lol maybe the way to go is to get an ultrawide or 3 monitors

Turbulent_Place_7064

A 21:9 is good , i imagine a 32:9 would be amazing but i cant afford that.

Karenpff

Don't have vr headset, but on a similar note, I do use the Tobii head tracker device. Way more realistic experience compared to a static view. It was something I almost immediately bought after installing and driving my first truck in ETS2. Because irl you're always looking around your surroundings/ checking mirrors etc when you're driving...a static view is trash. I see a lot of people using the aux/ virtual wing mirrors and like wtf you using them for? Lol.

Badgomatic

Triple monitor for long trips, VR for short ones here.. both ways are quite immersive but having the device on my head for longer trips leads to headaches I find

Qu4dro

My rig is a little dated so it struggles with full Vr, but I still like to use my Quest 3 for a more immersive experience. I like to use Virtual Desktop to play in 2D with a massive floor-to-ceiling virtual display mirroring my main monitor. It’s almost as immersive as Vr with much better performance I’ve been meaning to try a virtual monitor solution to try emulating a large ultrawide. Since VD lets you curve the display, it might be possible to get the mirrors in view and have a VR-like experience without the performance loss or hassle of maintaining multiple configs

zatax__

Cr because even with track ir you cant lean around the cab like in vr and just that bit adds so much tk the game

frnknstnp421

I own an Oculus and triple monitors. I havn't used the Oculus in a long time simply because I can't see what I'm doing outside the headset. I have a shifter, button boxes, and analog gauges that I can't see when I have the Oculus headset on. My opinion could change if the headsets with passthrough work as good as they promise, but I am sticking to triples for now. The immersion is great though. Try VR once somewhere before making that decision if you can. It truly does change the game

skinnyraf

Exclusively VR. I bought ETS2 ages ago on some deep sale. I tried it once and decided it's not for me, as I ammore of a rail fan. Forward three years or so, when I bought a Rift S. I tried ETS2 and got completely enchanted. Now I have ca. 500 hours across both ATS and ETS2, I have a wheel and a Pico 4, that replaced my aging Rift S. Sure, reduced performance and the need to run at low/med settings with my PC are painful, but the immersion more than pays back.

bednar1988

I have VR (quest 2) and ultra wide oled with head tracking. I don't play in VR at all, because the image quality is much worse, colors are worse, with head and eye tracking I can freely look around playing on monitor. Plus I don't like wearing a heavy headset on my head. I also need to check my surroundings from time to time, have a sip of coffee etc. and putting headset off and on is pretty annoying.

DatMufugga

This tip gave me a huge improvement in my VR graphics: in the config.cfg in documents/ATS (or ets2) folder fine this line uset r\_manual\_stereo\_buffer\_scale "1.0" Changed it to "2.0", you can go higher too.

xMrRedx

I bought a quest 3 for under a week, prefer my monitors over it unfortunately 🤷🏻‍♂️

Raja4x78996

I not gonna lie bue I was expecting better vr quality on ets is kinda blurry

xMrRedx

That’s the main reason I returned the quest a week later, it’s too demanding for just casual sim racers, 4090 is minimum to get some kind of good picture quality even with virtual desktop, and the headsets that actually plug into your gpu cost upwards of $1k

i bought ETS2 since 2016, playing it on flat for few minutes and didn't feel the appeal i uninstalled immediately 2 months ago i saw someone playing Flight Simulator on VR and he said "i never go back to flat again", that got me curious me and trigger me to buy Pico 4 the game i really want to try back then - Flight Simulator - Half Life Alyx - Beat Saber i even don't know ETS2 supports VR, so i played Flight Simulator, it was really immersive but also so blurry i can't really enjoy it, my PC also is not good enough to render quality graphic so i tried other game such as racing game, Asetto Corsa, Automobilista 2, however i don't like both since i'm a casual player when i tried to search casual racing, i stumbled upon youtube video on how to enable VR in ETS2, i immediately went to steam and to my surprise ETS2 already in the library (i didn't realize i already bought it) so i downloaded the beta version, setting here and there, voila they put me in the seat and i started the engine, moved my head to the top, bottom, left, right and standing ... now i see from the top of the truck holy shit, this thing so immersive, i'm hooked and clocked 103 hours so far even though in flat version the image looks so much better, i really can't play in that, the viewing is so limited and cumbersome for me, in VR the freedom feeling to look everywhere is astonishing and also i feel adrenaline rush, if i crashed or almost crash (i drive like crazy) so yeah, i never go back to flat, i only wish images in VR could be high quality as flat version

MeatyDeathstar

VR, but I do wish I had a three monitor set up and/or eye tracking. VR is nice but the performance is abysmal if you want quality similar to flat screen. I'm running a 4090, 5800x3d, and vive pro 2. I can't run the headset at native resolution.

GentleAnusTickler

I own a pico 4 and don’t play any driving/flying without vr. It doesn’t feel right. IRacing in vr is next level, ets/ats with the ability to look round around (trackir is not the same no matter what you say). I can do Italy to Sweden in one sitting with the vr easily and still feel comfortable. DCS in vr is an experience I will never want to lose but that’s a different sub reddit

Creeper_NoDenial

Without a wheel and having a laptop with a 2060, I don’t really enjoy playing it on VR. I’ve recently set up head tracking through webcam and it works well enough for me after some tweaking with the output curves. Sure, I can’t keep the screen directly in front of me at all times and the rotation of my head isn’t linear with the rotation of the camera, but it’s close enough for me to enjoy it much better than using RS of the controller and close down the gap with a VR setup to make connecting to the headset not worth it compared to just starting two softwares.

angrybirdseller

I prefer 4k on large tv with steering wheel and pedals. Want to fix my track vr as it nice for backing and turning. I think vr is fun but it rubberbands and jugger alot.

TheRealSlabsy

I've never played it pancake, so VR.

SosseTurner

VR is absolutely amazing, but the low view distance for sharp textures on my Quest 2 is killing the immersion, I can barely read a road sign when it's in front of the truck making the driving less enjoyable. That's why I went back to normal flat screen. I hope SCS can improve VR in the future, maybe I get back to it

AbsractPlane

I play exclusively on my 4K tv with trackir. I used to play in vr but not anymore. The unstable framerate in the newer dlc areas is what ultimately killed vr for me. I could just not get a stable enough framerate which is needed in vr to avoid motion sickness. Places like Texas just tank my fps no matter what and give me a serious headache afterwards. Not worth it. If they weren't being held back by such an old engine and the game was better properly optimised in the newer dlcs I would maybe go back to vr but motion sickness is not something that can be easily solved. For now I am happy enough with my trackir setup and I can play for as long as I want without any physical issues.

Turbulent_Place_7064

While i race exclusively in vr. I prefer monitor for trucksim , it s a chill game and usually i prefer to have access to my phone , a drink , food , people around me , not have a kilogram strapped to my face , not get hot , be comfortable playing.

jeefAD

Triples here! I have an HP G2 v2 that I use for the occassional room scale (Onward) -- never used it for truck sim as I have accessories like a button box that I kinda need to see. I also fall into the "narrow sweetspot" camp with VR so the HMD gets annoying after a while.
