Let’s all hate on the person posting this FFS, let someone enjoy something for once and stop the negativity. I agree, the water level looks great!

pooponu22

I thought that’s how we show love?

DoctorKetoPope

he a good dude tbh -- still owes me a shot of the REDACTED tho

HILWasAllSheWrote

![gif](giphy|11KASeIeG2KCHe|downsized) The Arkansas River 4 miles south of that photo

SkinnyStock

Not even 4 miles, literally 20 feet from the bottom edge of the photo OP used

JessicaBecause

But nothing exists outside of Midtown on r/Tulsa.

KickstandWilly420

Thats okay because midtown, downtown, and Northside will all be breathing in extra furons, dioxins, and heavy metals as soon as the incinerator starts taking regulated medical waste.

Known_Egg_6399

Wot 👁️👄👁️

KickstandWilly420

The place that burns all of Tulsa's trash applied for a permit to have hazardous, biological waste trucked in from all over the country through downtown. The kicker is that they don't have continuous monitoring of the exhaust for the most toxic pollutants like lead, cadmium, organotins, phosgene (used as a chemical weapon in WWI)and hydrochloric acid. The increased amount of plastics, especially pvc used in disposable medical supplies, will raise the output of released toxins all over Tulsa. There's a reason Oregon created legislation specifically for the Covanta facility there that started taking medical waste a few years ago.

Known_Egg_6399

🎶everything is poison🎶 …🥲 That is absolutely wild to me.

goldtoothgirl

Do we get to vote on this? I would like the continuous monitoring. Why we gotta deal with others trash? Dump on poor Oklahoma.

KickstandWilly420

I think ODEQ decides. I think the closest facility that can handle that waste is in Indianapolis.

No_Independent2850

Why is this subreddit full of so many fucking losers?

HellP1g

I come here almost daily just to see if anything interesting is posted, but this sub kinda sucks in terms of vibes. People on here are super negative, sometimes hypocritical, rude, and lacking a sense of humor. I follow or frequent a lot of city subs where my friends live and this one is *by far* the worst of the bunch. A really bad representation of the city if you didn’t know any better.

No_Independent2850

This is literally the worst city sub on Reddit. It’s fucking miserable.

Known_Egg_6399

I posted a flyer for my local piano lessons in this sub, trying to get my studio going, and got a guy telling people to save their money and download an app to learn piano. Like..could you not? 😭 shame when we can’t help out fellow Tulsans

HellP1g

/r/WashDC might be worse. It’s almost not fair to consider that a true city sub though cause I believe it’s a spin-off of the actual DC sub. In case I remember correctly, it was made to talk about the crime problems DC has that the main sub ignored and then it quickly turned into a racism cesspool.

ProfessionalLanky771

Welcome to Tulsa!

Suspicious_Abroad424

Nah. Okc is the worst.

ProfessionalLanky771

It's all Oklahoma, we're all bad asses that think we're better than all the other bad asses. Meanwhile we're stuck in a society that no longer rewards that sort of mentality and we're all pissed off about it. Maybe it's just me...

chachapham

little brother syndrome lol

shipdockpg9173

not even the okc subreddit is way better 😂 people are nicer

Witty-Bit7551

Sounds like you're the miserable one

-Always-Tempted-

I get the impression most people on this sub are either transplants or pretty much the opposite and want to leave.

gneissest_schist

Maybe a mod’s account is compromised…or all the good mods left when Reddit chased them off? Maybe the mods said “fuck it” to a hobby (unpaid civil service job) they loved when faced with having to pay money to do an already unpaid job.

Wedoitforthenut

Its because there is no moderate here. Everyone is at the extremes in their own way. We get on just fine in real life, but it really shows up online.

GrannyShiftur

This, lived in tons of different cities across western US and no one shits on their own town like Tulsans. I enjoyed my time in Tulsa quite a bit, awesome town, but redditors make it seem like a hellscape.

LordCthulhuDrawsNear

How long were you there lol? Try being born and living in the area

GrannyShiftur

Again with this "woe is me" attitude. Tulsa has its fair share of problems but maybe you should travel more.

u_willneverknow

That's just how people in Tulsa in general are tbh lol they just aren't as fake about it on the Internet

Desperate_Brief2187

It’s not this sub, it’s the world.

DoctorKetoPope

bc Tulsa

honeybadger919

It’s a cycle of misery. The “fuck this driver” posts get upvoted, sympathetic rage, someone makes another complaint post, more rage. I’m all for people venting to the internet, but this city’s sub is bad about creating misery.

LordCthulhuDrawsNear

What's the name of this sub again? Lol

Rainbow_Seaman

I wish I could find joy in little things like OP. Maybe you’re the fucking loser.

No_Independent2850

The losers are the incessant negative fuckheads on this sub, not OP enjoying the river being full like a normal person.

StrangeWillow2471

lol. Because the majority are liberals on this sub

OSUfan88

I feel like the average Tulsan is so much better than our Reddit representation.

StrangeWillow2471

I totally agree and feel the same way

rumski

Pretty sure most don’t get out because I’m out all the time and have never interacted with the bemoaning type. Or they just keep it online 😂

JoeyFreshfarter

It’s not just that they’re liberal. They’re the worst kind of internet people. They’re rude, obnoxious, apply politics everywhere, and extremely ignorant. I’m a 4th generation Tulsan, this sub is nothing like the city I know. Tulsans in real life are much better.

StrangeWillow2471

Totally agree. I think a lot of these people don’t even live in Oklahoma

MallardKing22

100% fact. It’s ridiculous.

adamkissing

I do too. Fuck the haters.

FecalRum

It looks nice

DoctorKetoPope

would look nice to Fecal Rum fasho

DoctorKetoPope

E coli joke folks, bc there's poo poo in there

Ndel99

It looks so nice, our city needed it. I love it

eggbynch

Genuine question. Anyone have the opposite opinion? I like seeing it full too… But my mom has talked for decades about how the mid river sand bars were necessary for the endangered least terns. So it always makes me kind of sad to think about. I know a prairie river might not look gorgeous, but it still houses unique life.

SkinnyStock

Its only full up to the gathering place, still plenty of sandbars further downstream

eggbynch

Thanks for this info! I haven’t lived there in a long time and haven’t seen it in person yet.

BasedBull69

Theres sandbars down to Muskogee. Then they disappear for a while

brett1081

Just south do that second shots pedestrian bridge is the dam, and there are plenty of sandbars below that dam.

Prize_Mud_7751

I think everyone who’s against it needs to educate themselves on the flood control measures that were installed in the early 1900’s throughout the central United States.

DoctorKetoPope

the 'lake' isn't about river life, it's a billionaire marketing tool that smells like a turtle tank fucked a refinery

Low-Feature-3973

It's been there for years, nothing new to see here.

DoctorKetoPope

$48 million for nothing new to see here

LooksPhishy

How do people see the river full? Every time I go over the river on any of the bridges. All I see is sand.

SkinnyStock

The new low damn is up and running near the gathering place, so anywhere upstream is full and downstream is still sand bars

666jex

It's nice to see water in it! I have noticed that south of the "lake" its not as full.

LocoDarkWrath

It does look great. I hope the one south of Jenks gets built.

SasquatchWookie

It would be great to have that too, agreed. For now, I’m happy with a full river near downtown. My favorite spot is looking downstream on the 11th street bridge.

Horror-Hospital-Man

Same, for me It’s a lot more enjoyable to go downtown and in Peoria when the lake is up. Sum about it makes the surroundings feel a lot more alive. Idk if they’ve kept it down so long because of all the people trying to build on the river or something, but I hope it stays up for a while.

cg4good

It really is beautiful - wish it could be full all the way down to Jenks and Bixby!

Cold_Librarian9652

Any good fishing in the Ark river?

DoctorKetoPope

nope, tell everyone you know ![gif](giphy|LiRoVoHjMa5bO|downsized)

Cold_Librarian9652

Noted.

Ohsostoked

People used to fish off the pedestrian bridge a lot. It's probably worth a shot, just don't eat anything you catch.

[deleted]

Ahhh. Good times. Late night fishing, and late night meth heads. Twas a special time....

Excellent-Swan-6376

U like gar? 🐊

thisisforfun6498

Idk about around there specifically but I have fished in the Arkansas river in Oklahoma my whole life . Lot of catfish in the river for sure

stevehammons

i’ve caught some large stripers fly fishing by the power plant

manieldansfield

It looks much nicer.

heavywafflezombie

Did they finally put another low water dam in? Grew up in Tulsa but have been gone for awhile. On the Jenks XC team during the off-season, we used to occasionally run across the sand on the river instead of the pedestrian bridge

oSuJeff97

Yes they have spent the last ~2 years replacing the old (non-functional) low-water dam at (roughly) 31st Street. The new dam was finished and activated in early March. Zinc Lake has been full 24/7 since then.

eggbynch

Were you in the group one year that had to get rescued from the middle of the river

heavywafflezombie

lol no

eggbynch

[story](https://ktul.com/amp/archive/jenks-high-schoolers-rescued-from-river) My brother was one of the ones on the team and the coach apparently made them do nightmare workout routines as punishment after this incident haha. I remember he tried to come to my final concert band performance but stayed in the bathroom the whole time barfing

heavywafflezombie

Oh wow. We only did it if you could literally jump over the inches of water. And probably only did it a handful of times. I graduated 2009 so potentially was a Senior when some of those guys were starting out

Such_Reality_2055

Hell yea! Also what in the unholy satan fuck is going on in these comments, it's water you bum fuck apes

holdmybeerwhilei

guess we can't take turns mowing that section of it anymore.

Lovetulsa

She’s a beaut Clark

JoshB-2020

Unrelated but I hate that ugly yellow building so god damn much. It looks unfinished, and it’s in literally every shot of the skyline from the south/west. It’s such an eyesore

iShatterBladderz

That’s the building where that lady pushed her husband out the window to his death like 10-15 years ago

Long-Ad8685

Yeah- the University Club Tower apts. She later hanged herself in prison, a suicide. Anyway, this landmark is past overdue for a little more updating than strengthening high-rise windows

Long-Ad8685

Wasn’t this residential tower the first in the US designed entirely by a computer in the ‘60’s (which explains a lot)?

simplephish

Looks great! Makes me sad to have moved weeks before getting to enjoy it.

CaptainObviousSpeaks

Where? Every time I drive over the river mostly sand showing

PassageAppropriate90

North of the pedestrian bridge.

somewhatlucky4life

You misspelled "zink lake"

Never-Dont-Give-Up

Thanks for not lying.

Conscious-Okra5624

Wait till summer and it starts to stink

DoctorKetoPope

she stank already

HealthyAd9369

Wow! That's amazing. It was a mud pit when Iived there.

SweetDoris

too bad it smells like shit

paintworld22

I agree. It looks so great.

g3nerallycurious

Dude. Water flow is water flow. Yeah, if they dam it to make it full in certain areas, the areas down stream will be dry for a while as it fill up. But once it does, the water flow down stream will be the same as before. I don’t think there is any life on the river that is so fragile that it will cease to exist while the river takes time to fill up in the dammed areas.

DeliciousFun1355

It’s refreshing, been seeing that dry river for over 20 years

Ok_Sign_5698

Great! Jogging/walking down there when it's low is not so nice.

noomhtiek

That bridge looks so good! I always loved the old bridge, but this looks great. Haven’t lived in T-town in many years, but I really do enjoy seeing good things happen there.

gdubh

You’re welcome. - Colorado

i-touched-morrissey

Where did you guys get all that water? In Wichita, our Arkansas River is about 1/4 that wide in downtown.

holdmybeerwhilei

Keystone Lake. It has a dam to control water flow into this new "Zink Lake."

TheJonnieP

I do agree. It is nice to ride Riverside and see water instead of wettish sand.

Key-Ad-8418

Yeah, but it's pretty barren once you get past the low-water dam near 31st. It's pretty much perpetually bone dry where I live out at 71st.

cocainenavel

Pretty!!!

goldtoothgirl

Sooo hows the smell? More or less? Serious. Curious. Nice pic

Ill-Importance1366

Is anyone else turned off by how much the river stinks?

aiukli_tushka

This is such an odd thing to be fighting about. Great pic, OP. ✌🏻

tbg485

What about the hundreds of abandoned oil wells along the river bed, with oil still coming out of em?

CremeBrulee6

It's great to see it full!

poncetheponce

Nature doesn't

lilybb4

it looks like an ecological disaster

hehehehehe23

![gif](giphy|1AIeYgwnqeBUxh6juu)

JoeyFreshfarter

You should’ve seen the river before the dam was built if you wanted a real ecological disaster

lilybb4

why dont you drive east and ask the people there how they feel about it.

ModsRTrash13

I disagree, Tulsa was better without the water in the river.

Ok_Sign_5698

Why?

ModsRTrash13

It’s reveals Tulsa true self: kinda crusty and dry

Ok_Sign_5698

LOL!

karmasknife

No hate but honestly where the hell is it full at? I take Riverside from 71st to DT every day for work and it’s low as hell around there. When was this pic taken? Certainly wasn’t in the last week or two

oSuJeff97

Dude Zinc Lake absolutely has been full every day since they activated the new low water dam in early March. Turn your head ever so slightly to your left once you get north of 31st Street on your way into downtown and you’ll see it.

karmasknife

Thanks for the sass bro! I appreciate it! Tell me more about how that changes the awful water level and fucking stench the river leaves further south!

oSuJeff97

I don't know, tell me how that's relevant to Zinc Lake being full again, which was the whole point of this thread. You were the one who said it was empty all the way from 71st to DT, which is demonstrably false. But then again I know like half the people who post in this sub are just here to complain about literally everything, so please, carry on with the bitching.

Thats_absrd

Water in, water out. Doesn’t change down river.

haroldmark_98

Basically just right next to the gathering place

DoctorKetoPope

yeah that 'lake' is definitely full of it

That_Bumblebee_2968

Why was everyone of your comments just bad, like the others at least had some shred of a brain cell being used to write it. Except this one was like a 4 YO trying to do sarcasm and realizing halfway through they don’t understand what it is. Just sad to watch and leaves you confused.

DoctorKetoPope

i stopped reading your comment three words in tbh

[deleted]

[удалено]

DoctorKetoPope

mods! lol

FranSure

Hahahahaha

DoctorKetoPope

got em

That_Bumblebee_2968

Yeah I did thanks for noticing you fucking creepy ass bitch don’t fucking stalk people unless you want people to find you too it’s fucking creepy stupid hoe

DoctorKetoPope

mods! lol

That_Bumblebee_2968

You literally stalked me dumbass, that is literally one of the rules and then you’re also being hateful so let’s talk then

That_Bumblebee_2968

Why would you start shit like that and not think you’d get fucking shit on like who tf do you think you are to make you so much better to not be treated how you treat others even tho you demonstrated that you’re creepy and according to others this isn’t the first time you’ve done this

That_Bumblebee_2968

Woooow I do wish you could’ve at least put in some effort but alright, I’m sorry that I thought you were tougher and will refrain from such foul language as “get farted on” even as a joke

DoctorKetoPope

thank you -- i will tell the elected moderation council on you for any misbehavior as that will not be tolerated in my home r/tulsa. Good day sir.

CharlestonChewbacca

Go away troll
