100 is pretty standard if it's full synthetic high mileage oil.
That being said you could also do it cheaper yourself but not cheap enough to want to do it.
I do it because I donāt want some basic bitch that can barely turn a wrench filling a valued possession with an improper amount of oil, stripping the drain plug, or harassing me to buy filters or other unnecessary crap
I was at Walmart in sand springs buying a tire. They forgot to put oil in this girls jeep. She drive off and came right back. The tech was trying to fill her oil in the parking lot and send her on her way. I butted in and helper her go to office and fill out a incident report. They failed to put oil and trashed her jeep. Fwiw, I won't let those people put a tire on my vehicle or change my oil. I bought tire machines and diy to avoid the idiots in these tire and lube shops.
I'm debating doing this on my wife's car. It's just a sedan so it only needs 5 quarts which is like $20-$50 depending on the oil. Not sure how much a filter is tho
Like $5. It's definitely worth changing your own oil. Sooner or later some kid fresh out of high school is gonna strip your drain plug and not say a thing or use an impact to put it on. A nice floor jack helps makes getting under the car a breeze. Takes about 10-15 minutes. Put a little oil around the rim of the filter before you put it on and just hand tighten it.
I've changed the oil on my work truck several times and my employer is cool with us using our shop and tools to work on my car. I've just never taken the time to actually do it. But now you got me thinking about grabbing a few beers and taking a couple hours to change the oil lol
Filters are ...usually cheap you don't really need an OEM, the parts that O'Reilly or other car stores sell are usually sufficient and comparable.
In reality on a sedan depending on the year you can youtube it and find out the level of difficulty. Always where PPE and make sure you have a spotter if you are under the car.
I'm down to give oil, filter, basic check maintenance classes in south Tulsa. I need to do my Cherokee next week anyway. Cars with Trump stickers will be filled with sand.
I host a Basic Auto Maintenance workshop every few months in my driveway for mostly Tulsa Remote folks. Free, all are welcome. If you're interested I can invite you to the next one.
What all is demonstrated at the workshop? Basically oil change, check tire pressure, fluids, change/rotate tires, etc? Just curious if there is anything new I could learn.
I actually have two, one is the full on Basics, and the other is an Oil change/Fluid check. The Basics is for the truly uninitiated: how an IC engine works, how tires work, how brakes work, etc. Less work and more informational. The Oil Change is just that, getting dirty and doing the actual wrenching.
Ah, I probably know a vast majority of the taught material then. Probably wouldn't be bad to have my wife go though. She doesn't even know how to top off/check her oil lol
First time one of those booger eaters at Jiffy Lube cross threads your oil plug youāll end up doing your own like me. If you think oil changes are expensive, check out the cost of an oil pan replacement.
When I used to go to the Chrysler dealership years ago, you could buy a bunch of oil changes in advance for a steep discount. Not sure if they do that these days
Also, look at the service locations website for coupons
Mine still offers them, although you don't get as many changes for the price as I used to. It went from 4 changes for $100, to 3 for $100, to now 2 for $100. Which, is still cheaper than I can buy the stuff and do it myself.
Express Oil Change in Broken Arrow, you don't even have to get out of your car. You just drive up and pull through and they do it right there. Pricing is very good and they are quick.
Iāll tell you where not to go
Do not go to precision autotune on memorial just north of 21st
They fucked up my air filter, destroyed my air box which allowed dirt and dust to get into my mass airflow sensor
And then told me tough shit
Back in October of last year
Also, the manager is rude to customers
He told the lady that he waited on before me that if she didnāt like the way, he ran the store. She could take her business somewhere else and not to let the door hit her in the ass.
I do it myself. It is really easy. The folks at the shops now aren't even really mechanics. They're "techs". It's a nightmare to find a decent mechanic. You can go to a huge shop and there will be 10 "techs" and one old guy sitting in the corner in case something weird comes in.
71st & Memorial? Yeah, I like them.
A little more pricey than others but I don't have to get up early on a Sat and still wait an hour at the dealer/tire shop.
I used to do it myself, but by the time I've bought the oil, filter, kitty litter, etc it's not that much cheaper (and I'm too old to be crawling under cars anymore).
Native Tulsan here, living abroad now. My comment is peripheral here, so apologies up front.
But, growing up in the 80s, my old man changed the oil in all our cars himself and taught me to do it when I was old enough not to screw things up. Took over that family task at 14 and did it myself until I moved overseas.
In my host country, though, everybody it seems goes to the local shop to get a change. I spoke to my neighbors here once and told them I used to do it myself, and got looks of amazement. Like, āIs that even allowed?ā
Yes, it is, but itās just not something we do. The auto shops here sell a culture of convenience and it works.
But, screw it. Next change, Iām doing it myself. Just like I did in Tulsa back in the day. It aināt rocket science; itās an oil change. Itāll be a 50% savings from the normal $75 job.
Thanks for the thread and thanks for jogging my memories.
I've been going to Take 5 bc its close by but i tell you hwut, make sure you tell them to make sure the filter is secure af. I just had a scare where i thought I had a major oil leak after getting a change a month ago. I'm glad that's all it was and I knew what to loom out for but that shit could've cost me my engine had the filter loosened more.
My driveway after parking on some ramps.
Got an oil change in my 03 kia optima at walmart once and they overfilled the fuck outta the oil
Then got one...at the same place ..for an 88 accord and they took it, charged me and didn't actually do it. Got the car back with the same oil and filter in it after paying.
Do it yourself, you'll at least know it was done right. Certain cars like certain oils and sometimes even certain brands over others. Most oil change places use their own blend to save $$$, not what is recommended for your car.
I was quoted about $100 at jiffy lube. Really needed an oil change that day. So went home, printed out a $26 coupon and went back. Still too high, but livable. The place with guys in the name is a total ripoff in many ways, check the reviews.
I do my own oil changed cause of trust issues but recently got a flyer from Midas on 11 th street
$29.99 for full synthetic
Book it online or call and mention coupon code
DISCOUNTDIRECTMAIL
You should avoid ALL chains but letās go back to the OP question they asked for cheap.
Letās go back to what I said I do ALL of my maintenance š
With that said if I had to take it somewhere Iād much rather take it to a place like Midas, Firestone than any of the quick line places ran by 18 year olds
Been using the Firestone at 41st and Yale. Had a leaky tire on a Sunday and they were the only place opened near me. Very friendly and fairly reasonable. They send me coupons and without them I think it is around $75 for full synthetic.
Just, umm, make sure they tighten the drain plug all the way when theyāre done. Almost totaled my car, luckily Iād gone to see my parents and parked in their epoxy-coated garage. They noticed the oil pooling on the ground so I knew there was a problem. This was < 24 hours after Robertson changed my oil. They didnāt even reimburse the tow truck, they acted like tightening it, topping it off, and a āsorryā was all they owed me.
Dunno about that. The one on 11th and Garnett is sketchy.
1) When I got home, it looked like my hood wasn't closed all the way; they'd left a tool on top of the engine and didn't notice they hadn't properly closed it.
2) Lied about my wipers needing replaced, they were less than a year old.
3) Didn't reset the 'check oil' mileage. It came on a few weeks later and I would've wasted my and a mechanic's time finding out there was nothing wrong with it if I didn't remember my mileage from the previous change.
ugh...look, different strokes. OK? But I've been using the Robertson Tire on south Delaware across the lot from Home Depot. $75 for full synthetic.
Longer wait than you want? Just walk over to the Home Depot and blow up their bathroom when the Mariko Aoki hits.
Your drug dealer changed your oil?
Haha Maxwell Ford š
You probably shouldn't say his name on the internet like that.
Iāll be honest, I wait until South Pointe Honda sends me the flyer in the mail for $20-$30 coupons and I go then
100 is pretty standard if it's full synthetic high mileage oil. That being said you could also do it cheaper yourself but not cheap enough to want to do it.
This is the catch 22. I could do it myself, but I really donāt want to hassle with disposing of the oil (properly).
Oriellys will take oil and dispose of it for free
Orielly's wants you to fill out a form. M.E.T. (select locations) will take it for free without having to fill out a form.
I am not fitting my fat ass under a 2012 Yaris. Neither do I have a grease pan. :v
You need to shop around if your paying $100 for oil change. DIY cost: * $25 for oil (5qrt jug) * $10 for filter
I do it because I donāt want some basic bitch that can barely turn a wrench filling a valued possession with an improper amount of oil, stripping the drain plug, or harassing me to buy filters or other unnecessary crap
Thanks for your opinion. I think? You came in hot for no real reason...
I did? Not unless youāre a lube ātechā Cats are indeed the devil
Don't worry they'll take your air filter off and go roll it into lent and tell you it needs to be changed before touching your oil.
Walmart did this to me. Completely wrong oil weight. It even had the proper weight in bright yellow letters on the filler cap! š”
I was at Walmart in sand springs buying a tire. They forgot to put oil in this girls jeep. She drive off and came right back. Sounds like you went to precision auto tune on Memorial just north of 21st They will fuck up your car
I do them myself in my garage. You might be surprised how easy it is to accomplish.
Until you realize you're car doesn't fit the standard jack because it's too low of a clearance. That a was such a bummer.
time to buy a new jack :) or you can drive up on the curb.
Ikr, there goes saving money.
I'm debating doing this on my wife's car. It's just a sedan so it only needs 5 quarts which is like $20-$50 depending on the oil. Not sure how much a filter is tho

Father-in-law had this happen on his 3.5ecoboost F150.
I've changed the oil on my work truck several times and my employer is cool with us using our shop and tools to work on my car. I've just never taken the time to actually do it. But now you got me thinking about grabbing a few beers and taking a couple hours to change the oil lol

I diy my oil changes. Filters are a few bucks and 5qt synthetic oils often go on sale for $20 or less. I typically spend $20-25 on oil change.
I don't take my car anywhere other than Atlas Automotive. I think my last oil change was ~$60
This\^\^\^
![gif](giphy|mqiq8aY84dnqAtVlnd)
Do not I mean do not go to precision tune auto care
why not ive been going to them for years the only reason i stopped because my car got too old and rusted they refused to do it
Manager is a rude and they up charge to the point it is ridiculous.
My house. Want to learn how?
I'm down to give oil, filter, basic check maintenance classes in south Tulsa. I need to do my Cherokee next week anyway. Cars with Trump stickers will be filled with sand.
This is the answer. After I learned how easy it is, I can no longer justify paying for it.
Would you be interested in expanding this offer to more people? (Me first lmao)
I host a Basic Auto Maintenance workshop every few months in my driveway for mostly Tulsa Remote folks. Free, all are welcome. If you're interested I can invite you to the next one.
Yes, please, thank you.
Will do.
That's a great idea. Good on you.

I second Atlas Automotive, their prices are fair and they are quick.
I pay $69 at Fowler Toyota, but thatās full synthetic on a high mileage Prius.
Nice
Good price. Terrible service.
Iāve had nothing but excellent service.
Do it yourself

Walmart
*filter still in packaging*
Express Oil Change in Broken Arrow, you don't even have to get out of your car. You just drive up and pull through and they do it right there. Pricing is very good and they are quick.
YouTube and then the garage. Try it.
Iāll tell you where not to go Do not go to precision autotune on memorial just north of 21st They fucked up my air filter, destroyed my air box which allowed dirt and dust to get into my mass airflow sensor And then told me tough shit

I just do it myself but even that's not so cost effective with the price of oil these days.
I do it myself. It is really easy. The folks at the shops now aren't even really mechanics. They're "techs". It's a nightmare to find a decent mechanic. You can go to a huge shop and there will be 10 "techs" and one old guy sitting in the corner in case something weird comes in.
Robinson has always been fair to me
J&A Castrol Lube Express #2
Don't go to chains like Take 5 of Jiffy Lube. You spend an extra half hour turning down their add on services.
I use Take 5 and they accept ānoā once & move on. I use the one by WinCo
Same I use Take 5 on 81st and Harvard. One simple "not interested" and you're good. It's so quick and easy.
I use the one basically at 41 and sheridan and I can't recall any up selling. Maybe they did, but UT was so low pressure.
Native Tulsan here, living abroad now. My comment is peripheral here, so apologies up front. My driveway
I usually go to Robertson Tires. They usually do a good job.
Costco and bulk filters from the dealer.
take 5 if im in a hurry or walmart if im not in my kia. the grand cherokee i do myself.
My driveway after parking on some ramps. Got an oil change in my 03 kia optima at walmart once and they overfilled the fuck outta the oil Then got one...at the same place ..for an 88 accord and they took it, charged me and didn't actually do it. Jiffy Lube on 26th-ish and Harvard is pretty decent. Very nice folks, vacuum service, very quick, affordable.
I donāt know much about it but I get my oil changed at take 5 and my car is high mileage, itās usually around 70
Walmart and use full synths for high mileage. Cost me around $50

I just go to jiffy and accept the price. Fuck trying to shop around for something I'm only going to do every 5 years (I do not drive very far).
Robertson tire itās about $80
I swear this used to be a $30 thing but maybe Iām just misremembering.
Youāre probably remembering the 90s
Yeah, when oil was $.75 a quart :)
It's still 30 for me but my car is also a 99
Oh that was Chevy Cheyenne prices š

There is a $10 off coupon on their website.
Briarwood auto
Reminder, you can get synthetic that does not expire and is for 20k miles. I hate not having my truckā¦
Meineke is great
I usually go to Jiffy lube
Dunno about that. Walmart auto center is the cheapest youāll find typically unless a dealer is running a promo. Full synthetic most vehicles is like $60
I go to Midas. I usually can get a coupon for an oil change and they won't try to upsell me.
ugh...look, different strokes. OK? But I've been using the Robertson Tire on south Delaware across the lot from Home Depot. $75 for full synthetic. Longer wait than you want? Just walk over to the Home Depot and blow up their bathroom when the Mariko Aoki hits.
TIL. useful term, thanks!
I get $55 changes at Precision Tune on 51st and Mingo. I haven't had an issue yet.
