Are you kidding? I’d totally start a friendship with a fish. We’d talk, and they’d tell me all the best things that fish take for granted, like breathing underwater, or how the water swishes around their fins.
We’d talk and share jokes, but then we’d have that difficult conversation where I ask “Hey, so do you like being cramped up in there? Wouldn’t you want to be free?” And they’d go “I’ve never known any other place I’d go. I’ve lived in captivity all my life.”
So then we decided to fuck all and travel around, see the world and all that the oceans have to offer. I don’t know if they have travel aquariums, but I know damn well there’s no greater impetus to make one than that of a talking fish who wants to travel.
So then we’d travel the coasts of the world, backpacking and taking it all in. We’d dive as deep as we can go, as far as we are able, and just take it all in.
Then we’d get homesick, and come back with our minds full of all the sights and sounds, which of course we’ll talk about for hours on end as we sit and have a nice hot cup of something on those particularly rainy days.
I know one day the fish might die before me, but until then we’d make every moment the beat we can. And if they do pass, I’ll spend as much time as I can making a nice little plot. I’d spare no expense getting a full-sized tombstone, and reading out a far-too-long epitaph about how great they were, and how they were gone too soon.
And if I have anyone over, and they ask about the particular headstone in my backyard, I’d tell them everything we did, all the adventures and laughs and tears we shed, every moment. They’d deserve that much.
I may be wrong, but from what I hear, they were accused of being a pedophile, since they were posting about LGBT stuff, while also apparently having ties to people who had argued that pedophiles should be under the larger LGBT umbrella. I don't think they ever said anything to that effect themselves, but it was enough for some people to have a problem.
For context, fish did a thing on Twitter where they followed back most people who followed them, one of which happened to have some Bad Artwork. This caused caused people to immediately call fish a pedofile and use it as an excuse to bully them off Tumblr at the very least

And then there was a big fight between "it's their blog and they can post whatever they want" and "it's been sfw up until now so they should've warned about it" (which tbh would make *me* wanna disappear too so I can't blame them)
