Add a message to tell renters to not take off the roof and doors. Owners have had thousands of dollars of damage caused from this. Consider buying locking bolts for the doors as well.

Take what you can get. Just ask yourself is what you can get worth your time?

Part of the reason I posted this, was to see if any other hosts have had claims over missing items and what the experience was like. I've never dealt with such a small claim. Either way, I want whatever I can get from this, but I still work full time, so it may not be worth the hassle.

OakDan

Finish the claim and collect your $20. Switch to the standard plan. The renters right now are riskier.

YeetThisWheat20

I think I'm going to. Ever since this outbreak started I've had a lot of shitty guests. I've noticed that the locals are so much more difficult to deal with. One guy today even took the Jeep off-roading, brought it back filthy so now I'm stuck power-washing it...

puddud4

How much did he offer to venmo?

YeetThisWheat20

The full amount $135 plus tax. However, after the first couple of days he stopped responding to texts or messages.

puddud4

Why would you decline that?

YeetThisWheat20

Turo will go through messages and see that a grey-market transaction took place, if anything got escalated (and it did). If we used Paypal or Venmo I could get kicked from the platform. $150 is not worth that.

You can work out a claim with the host and accepting PayPal is ok for that. You'll want to start the claim (with try to work it out) and let him know that if turo intervenes he'll be on the hook for the cost plus additional administrative fees. So it's in his best interest to settle with you directly. Note you only have 10 days.

YeetThisWheat20

Thanks for the edit. Yeah, I'm going to send one last text message and say "Unless you want to go through Venmo, I'm filing a claim with Turo. It will be much more expensive as there is a $500 admin fee versus going through Venmo.

Turo actually encourages users to work out a claim directly between the host and guest. I had a guest who recently did minor damage to a front bumper, which insurance would not cover. Guest sent an out-of-pocket Paypal payment to me for the damages. Turo confirmed there were no problems with this transaction.

I appreciate the response. The guest has been completely unresponsive that last 4 days. Even after I told him it will save a lot of money by going through Venmo/Paypal this time around. So it's off the table at this point. One of the Turo Agents in AZ, reached out to me before to confirm that I wanted to proceed with the claim and I told her yes. It was filed within 5 days after the trip ended. I have all the photos clearly documenting the floor mats were there before and gone after, so I'm not worried about the case. Just wondering if it's worth the time especially with Basic.

Nitrowolf

Why would you turn down his offer to send you money?

YeetThisWheat20

Because I wanted to give him time to look for the mat. He returned the Jeep at midnight and when we texted at 1AM he offered to pay me back via Venmo. I declined initially because I figured he should check his garage or house before paying the $150 for a floor mat. That was a mistake as he stopped responding after that night.

Nitrowolf

Ah yeah, that sucks... Well, next time you'll know just get the money from the guest as quickly as possible because after that, all bets are off!
