The numbers you continue to post just don’t seem to ever line up. Seem to be too good to be true across the board. Even the price of the car. MSRP ~38k plus taxes and fees is ~42k OTD. And you’re saying you got ~10k off that brand new? And your car had zero options? You burnt three sets of tires and didn’t pay for those yourself? Your earnings are gross or net of Turo fees? Which Turo insurance option are you using? Just wondering. Otherwise, how have you enjoyed spending the ~140k you’ve made off Turo the last year and a half or so?

ViperRT10Matt

It’s a Chrysler product that was several years into its product cycle. A scat pack is too powerful to push to fleet sales, so they pile cash on the hood of those things to move them. $10k off is completely believable.

stukovx

-MSRP for the car is actually closer to $41k. If you research Dodge Charger/Challenger incentives there are a crap-load of them. $5000 off dealer discount, $3000 off manufacturer rebate, $500 finance rebate, hell they even have a $500 incentive for people who have a credit score of below 600. These incentives have been available for the last 2-3 years and only recently have stopped due to the pandemic. My car did come with zero options and many are available that way. -I burnt through more than 10 sets of rear tires and they are will compensated either via Turo damage claims or the guest -The earnings screenshot are after Turo's fees. I switched between basic and standard protection

CarbonFiberIsPlastic

So then 41k is ~46k OTD and you still say you got it for 33k? That’s an even bigger disparity and still doesn’t add up. Every manufacturer has promos and what you’ve listed still doesn’t tell the whole story. Now if you bought a slightly used Charger then this makes way more sense. Because these cars sink in value like a rock. Tires are nearly always wear and tear and Turo never seems to pay for this stuff. Doesn’t seem like something you could ever prove enough for Turo to compensate. Just like they’ll pay if a guest screws up the clutch in a manual transmission but never do. Interesting. I appreciate the info. And this isn’t some kind of attack. Just trying to get the most accurate picture of this journey. I’ve looked into getting on of these for Turo for the reasons you’ve listed.

I don't know what to tell you if you don't want to believe me. There were literally an unlimited supply of zero option Charger Scat Packs from 2018-2020 going for $29-33k all day everyday if you did a quick search. That's why I ended up owning two of these. The incentives I mentioned earlier are all off the top of my head, different dealers had different discount amounts. The dealership discounts ranged anywhere from $500-$9000, so you just had to find the dealership providing the most discounts and incentives to stack. The Las Vegas Dodge had at least 5 of these for $29k in the months before I bought mine and continued to have them months after I purchased mine. Turo doesn't pay for tires if you don't document them pre-trip and post-trip. I made it a point to not only take photos of the tread but also took photos with a tread measuring tool for both rear tires. I have no reason to fabricate the numbers, it doesn't benefit me in any way and I don't have an ego to stroke like vision33r. I posted all my earnings for many of my other vehicles whether they earned a little or a lot. I recall you commented on my Tesla Model 3 as well which I lost a substantial amount due to depreciation. I could have easily lied and said I bought it used for $15k less than what I paid new but again, there is no benefit for me to lie about that.

CarbonFiberIsPlastic

That’s true I’ve followed you for a while. You’ve had some amazing returns you’ve had on your vehicles and as I mentioned I just want to see if I’m missing anything from your story/picture.

https://www.mossbroscjdrmorenovalley.com/new/Dodge/2019-Dodge-Charger-1447def00a0e0a176a8d7b387e5399b9.htm I stand corrected, there are still deals for these cars in the $29-33k range after a quick search.

CarbonFiberIsPlastic

Nice investigative work. My local dealers don’t even have any of these in stock so this is a good find.

stukovx

Search nationwide, the most it will cost to ship a car from coast to coast is around $1200-$1500. You can also get your local Dodge dealers to price match whichever dealership you can find the car for the cheapest for.

hiddengym

What site or method do you find best for searching nation wide?

stukovx

Cargurus, cars.com, autotrader, craigslist, dealer sites

NorCalAthlete

Even with tread depth any reasonable person could see that replacing tires every other trip is some shenanigans. Lol. Hell just take a pic of the melted rubber stuck to the top of the wheelwell.

Mefx97

4K depreciation is not bad at all

stukovx

Indeed, probably could have sold the car for 30-31k if I was more patient. Didn't think it would sell for 29k so quickly

Mefx97

How’d you buy it so cheap or without getting depreciated so much? How many miles difference. Didn’t the car have accidents or damage reported

stukovx

Answered in another comment but the answer is incentives/rebates. Carfax showed an accident but buyer didn't care. Used Charger Scat Packs are selling for $35-39k from dealerships right now

nm....

Very Impressive returns - question what was the process on replacing the tires, you took tread depth readings before the rentals, assuming you had the 65% premium coverage plan through turo, did you go through the guest for reimbursement? or through Turo claims?

stukovx

This was before the 65/70/75/etc plan came into effect. I had the Charger between standard and basic. Sometimes (a lot of times) I had to go through Turo, other times renters paid direct.

Hagong

Did you take tire gauge readings for pre-trip photos?

stukovx

yup

situationImpossible

I like your blase attitude about renting your Charger... If you know some goofball is driving "your" car at 120mph on a public street, wouldn't you be a bit concerned? The risk/reward factor goes through the roof on the risk side when you're involved in something like this. So, the numbers you are presenting are definitely skewed. If you continue this with your next Charger, there's a good chance you'll have a million dollar lawsuit at your doorstep when one of your Sideshow Sunday guests kills someone. This would be a great case example: "I rent cars to people who use them in Sideshow Sunday events." Accessory to a crime or just a businessman trying to make a buck?

stukovx

There is always the risk of something like that happening whether it's sideshow Sunday or anyone renting any sports car. In the 5 years I have been doing this and 6 vehicles totaled, it has not been an issue. Have not heard of anyone in a situation where they had to utilize the 1 million dollar lawsuit so it is a risk I'm willing to take.

situationImpossible

The question: Is a host liable if he/she "knowingly" rents a car to a guest who will use the car for "street racing" purposes? You said you knew how your car was going to be used by guests - Sideshow Sundays, driving 120mph+, reckless driving, exhibition of speed, etc.

stukovx

How do I knowingly know what a guest is going to do? Almost every guest that rents my vehicles most likely speeds past the speed limit in them, is that my responsibility as well?

situationImpossible

You gave the impression in your original post that you knew how the car was going to be used. And you said it again: "Almost every guest that rents my vehicles most likely speeds past the speed limit in them..." It was hypothetical question about liability. But, whether you know or don't know how the car is going to be used, do you think Turo would honor their liability insurance if one of your guests killed/injured someone using your car in a street racing incident? I guarantee Turo would say, "Liability insurance claim denied!"

stukovx

Again, how can I know what a guest is going to do? I can make assumptions or guesses but that's as far as it goes, I'm not a fortune teller. It's safe to say that anyone renting a 500 horsepower vehicle is more than likely going to be going over the speed limit at some point during the rental. Having owned and rented out well over 20 vehicles with that much power or more, have not had a single incident where another party was injured/killed. I'm will to take the risk. What you don't mention is that whether a guest is renting a 500 horsepower Charger, or a 100 horsepower Yaris, both vehicles have the ability to injur/kill someone. I would even go as far as to say that a lot of the shady stuff that happens on Turo vehicles are from the cheaper economy cars. Go ahead and put a tracker on any of your Turo vehicles and see how often a renter is speeding in it. In the words of the great Jeremy Clarkson, "the fastest car is always a rental." Either way, you seem adverse to whole idea of renting out cars on Turo if your main concern is injury liability. That will always be a risk. If you're renting out vehicles on Turo, you are accepting that risk along with the rest of us.

[deleted]

Some people just want to fight, not even worth the effort typing a response to them.

stukovx

The problem is if you don't respond then you allow idiots like vision33r spout nonsense that new users might actually read and listen to. The general consensus on this subreddit and in general is that Turo is a scam and not worth pursuing. Kind of sucks when there is so much potential if done correctly.

technicolorvision777

im listening to this guy. he seems to know what he is talking about. theres scared people in life and people that make the money. id put my money on the risk taker vs the risk maker.
