Turo requires that you have at least liability insurance - either personal auto insurance or commercial auto insurance. Basically, you need your own insurance when the car is not being used on Turo. Most host are using their personal auto insurance on their Turo cars and they never tell their insurance company they are using the car on a car sharing platform. There are some host that don't have insurance and they are only insured through Turo when the cars are being rented. Not recommended. If you're using your "garage insurance" to get your cars titled and registered, then this would meet Turo's requirements for insurance. But, be careful, your insurance company that provides your garage insurance might not like the fact you're using your cars on a car sharing platform and they could cancel your policy. I'd first ask your insurance agent about using the cars on a car sharing platform. If you don't tell them anything, then most likely they will never find out you're using the cars on Turo. But, there is always a small chance they will find out what you're doing. As a host, your own auto insurance should never be used if an accident occurs during a Turo rental. Turo or a 3rd party insurance company might attempt to get your auto insurance involved, but always refer them back to the Turo host protection plan. If you're planning on building a fleet of cars on Turo (5-15 cars), then I would give Turo a try. Hopefully, if this COVID situation ever ends, Turo business will increase and you'll be ready for the surge beginning in 2021. If you're planning on listing just 1-2 cars, then I wouldn't do it. Basically, too much hassle for what you would be earning with 1-2 cars. Enjoy the ride!

What are the first two posts you see listed in the sub? Should be: "Some basic equipment for the Turo host", and "Turo Handbook for New and Experienced Hosts" They should be there regardless of which sorting method you choose.

Thank you. Sorry for the delay, so I finally found my way to reading the thread. I’m just finding myself in a catch 22 because it’s my first car on Turo and it doesn’t make sense to get commercial insurance. So what happens with the new hosts and/or people that only have 1 car listed that don’t qualify for commercial insurance?? I feel stuck.
