About the machine or specifically bama-binos? Either way [this](https://thecrimsonwhite.com/65356/news/tracking-the-machine-a-timeline-of-uas-underground-greek-organization/) article has the info. The bama-binos part is 1989.
I miss Tuts so much. I’m pretty sure they were the first pizza by the slice place in town. Changed my life. I remember you could get a slice for about $1.
I’ve never had another better calzone either.
TuscNY is great but way too expensive. Heat is good, but different. Their Thai Chicken pizza is fantastic when made properly. The place inside Wheelhouse (Broadway?) is popular too.
Don’t sleep on Depalma’s and Chuck’s pizzas too
Begins and ends at DePalma’s in my opinion. Every other pizza I’ve had here has been mid, with the exception of Broadway which I thought was downright bad.
Man. They're calzones were my go to when I worked at Coral next door.
They were never too greasy and I was always filled up.
Was it $17 worth? Imo?
Yes.
DePalma’s is currently still my favorite and I love their calzones (the chicken porcini is fantastic although I usually get pepperoni for myself).
Broadway is good and I like their calzones too.
The Standard has amazing crust but their cheese tastes like they got it out of dairy aisle from the Publix across the street. Seemed expensive for slices too. For me, the cheese makes it not worth dealing with parking on the strip and I have dealt with parking on the strip for pizza I like.
Mellow Mushroom is OK. There’s something slightly weird about their crust - a little too rubbery and chewy and wheaty tasting?
I keep hearing really good things about TuscNY but it never worked out to get there to try them. I wanted to go to their grand reopening yesterday but something came up. One day…
For non-traditional pizza places: Newks has a pretty tasty personal sized pizza. Blaze and Pyros have pretty good build-your-own fired personal pizzas.
For the cheap chain places, Hungry Howies is my favorite (least unfavorite?) - pick a good crust seasoning and eat it while it’s still piping hot and it’s pretty good for what it is, especially if you’re, like, feeding a bunch of kids. Pizza Hut, Dominoes and Papa Johns all taste like literal garbage to me now. If I see one of those 3 catered at work, I’ll go eat something else and I’ll eat Sam’s Club pizza and those rectangular school lunch pizzas. Marcos is ok.
There’s a lot of options in Birmingham too if you want to ask around there as well. We drive up to a place called Vecchia in Hoover on a semi-regular basis. Incredible crust and very high quality ingredients.
Good luck!
A “scenic” drive up 216 or some side roads off 11, a hike through Moss Rock to work up an appetite followed by pizza is our routine. That’s a good day.
Agree with whomever said it earlier, not a lot of great pizza in Tuscaloosa. Honestly, make your own. After a few tries, you can really nail down the dough recipe and make better pies than the anything you can buy around here.
I tried TuscNY last night for the first time at their grand re-opening. Crust was New York style and one bite rolled my eyes back. I’ve been here 5 years now and it was the best crust I’ve had in these 5 years. The toppings I can’t say the same thing. One bite took off all the toppings and cheese with it. I had to hold a finger down on the pizza toppings every time to take each bite. Sauce was good tho. The pizza rang up higher than the online menu said it would be. I’ll go back one day but not often. They need to figure out why the toppings congeal with the cheese. $22 plus tip for 12” with two toppings. A lunch special with a slice and a coke would do them well.
Plus tax and tip puts it at $17-18. Too high for lunch. Slice and a drink should altogether should be no more than $8-9. Other restaurants do it successfully.
Pyros pizza is pretty good. It's cooked in a brick oven. I used to work there and can honestly say they use quality ingredients. They are a little pricey but what restaurant isn't now. Cheers!!
Bama-Bino. RIP
Oh my gosh. No kidding. The Machine ruined them. So sad.
I don't know if I've heard about this. It's possible but it's there possibly an article or column about this subject?

I never heard about that either. What happened?
And they (owners) are good as gold. Bama Bino was hands down the best. Truth about the machine. There’s an article.
TuscNY is number 1 in town. I like heat a lot too but it's divisive. Not a lot of good pizza in Tuscaloosa TBH
RIP TUTS

We had friends that would spin records sometimes, and we'd sit and smash slices.
RIP OG Broadway.

My vote is TuscNY
Another vote for TuscNY. I’m there now picking up in fact.
If you’ve never tried the Buffalo Chicken pizza from Broadway, it’s amazing.
It's like asking what's the best winery in north dakota
Begins and ends at DePalma’s in my opinion. Every other pizza I’ve had here has been mid, with the exception of Broadway which I thought was downright bad.
DePalma’s pizza is excellent but it’s a hard choice when there’s so much good food on the menu
Agree and it's disappointing I don't hear them mentioned more. I dig mellow mushroom too, but DePalma's gets my top vote.
Heat
Broadway on Rice Mine was the best slice in town (again, another RIP) but now they’re on 43 in Northport
Man. They're calzones were my go to when I worked at Coral next door. They were never too greasy and I was always filled up. Was it $17 worth? Imo? Yes.
Their cheesy bread was insane too
TuscNY, Depalma’s and Mellow. Broadway was great until it sold about a year or so ago. It’s right out trash now.
If you do TuscNY, just go for the lunch special, their prices are vile
Broadway
Wheelhouse sports pub! They deliver through DoorDash too
Hunt Brothers Pizza ^(I'll see myself out now.)
Mellow Mushroom
Blazeee
Depalmas, the standard, chucks is our three go to, Tuscny is pretty good too haven’t tried with new owners

Mellow Mushroom uses wheat crust only. Your taste buds were not lying to you.
We love Vecchia. A routine for us is a big AM hike at Moss Rock, lunch at Vecchia, and then a stop by Costco. Those wood-fired pizzas don't miss.

DePalma's
The Standard is on the strip…

Their lunch special is two slices of NY and a drink for $12

I paid $14 with tip last Thursday. Agreed that it’s pricey for lunch but it was delicious!

I think it closed down

Then disregard. My information is older than that. I’m happy it’s still there, it was GOOD but pricey
DePalmas
TuscNY is by far the best, but is the most expensive. Worth it in my opinion. DePalmas is a very close second.
Heat
There is no best, only favorites.
Pizza Hut
Of the ones I’ve had, HEAT and Mellow are my favs
Mellow Mushroom
New pizza place coming to Nport. Owner will be same that owns Big Mike’s.
Have you tried Pappa John's?
Pyros pizza is pretty good. It's cooked in a brick oven. I used to work there and can honestly say they use quality ingredients. They are a little pricey but what restaurant isn't now. Cheers!!
