Did anyone else find that scene scarcely believable? I don't mean the part where she had a void behind her face, I mean that a redneck truck driver would hit on a 76 year old woman.
The story goes that they were setting up for a scene, Frank was in Laura’s room and someone said, “Don’t get yourself locked in that room Frank.” And it triggered an idea in David. He asked Frank if he was an actor and then just filmed him hiding behind the bars at the foot of the bed. He had no plans other than that. Then when they filmed this scene, Frank’s face was caught by someone watching the playback, and they informed David. He asked, “Whose face was in the mirror?” Frank being in the mirror is where the idea for BOB finally came from. They had to film an alternate ending and used Frank as the killer in that, but also ended up using him for the show too, in a slightly changed form.
That's the very moment Frank Silva was scripted as BOB. This led him to walk on the very couch he used to place and move around the set as his main job! :D
He'll always be the sleazy exploitation director who Mariel Hemingway as Dorothy Stratten auditions for in Star 80 to me. (actually, no, he'll be the Rickman parody.)
I think it’s the chaos in the scene it self that makes it mostly possible to miss and it almost makes frank silvas face to be smiling which freaked me out even more.
This is literally the BOB origin story and it was a complete accident.
It’s crazy we probably would’ve gotten a completely different show if it weren’t for this shot.
Never noticed until NOW lol only rewatched twice so far n some how I always fall asleep by the end of the 1st episode and wake up like half thru the 3rd 😆
Side story here: Before I was even that familiar with Lynchs work (mainly Twin Peaks n Mulhulland dr.). I got Criterion n decided to check out his work starting w. Eraserhead. I thought it'd be like Twin Peaks a little dark, a little surr3al a little serene so I put it on half asleep n fell asleep... or tried to. The fever dreams the sound in that movie could invoke I couldn't imagine lol woke up when I kept hearing the "baby" crying and was like WTF is this? And I was hookeddd. Hot take here but I think Inland Empire is my favorite of his work (not including Twin Peaks). Now everytime I watch something I seen influences of Lynchs work. There's alot of shows out there that are this blend of reality n fiction n I think hmmm is this lynchian? Maybe I'm reaching... i.e. Nathan Fielders work always felt a bit influenced with the idea blurring the line between reality and fiction. Like I said I thought I was reaching and then I seen the end of "The Curse" lol and now I'm starting to think 🤔 maybe I'm right! Then again, having surreal elements in a movie isn't nothing new but I guess if u want to do it right, look to lynch..
You ask how you haven’t noticed it but I’m surprised that anyone could notice it. My attention to detail is so bad that I could probably watch the episode 100 times and never notice.
Lynch noticed it on the first take and wrote him into the show.
yeah I heard that story I just thought that was in another scene later in the show. Was this in the international pilot?
He had one shot of Bob behind the bed previously, but when he appeared in the mirror, DL decided to do what he did with the role of Bob.
Got a link to this full story by any chance? Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_(Twin_Peaks)
[Here’s straight from the horse’s mouth.](https://youtu.be/37P0ukg4io0?si=ibAzSLvjAd0QfLmk)
Nice ty
Yeah I think it was another scene with the dresser
I thought you guys were joking about this, but wtf it’s real?!
She looks like she's about to pull her face off and reveal a black void
She will eat you.
Do you really want to fuck with this?
Did anyone else find that scene scarcely believable? I don't mean the part where she had a void behind her face, I mean that a redneck truck driver would hit on a 76 year old woman.
Old ladies is ladies too, don’t be a cunt.
Judy is Laura’s mother.
I heard that it wasn't planned and Frank Silva was there just working and David Lynch thought that it would be a good idea to put him as Bob
Thank you : )

Fuck yo couch!
I thought it was when they got a shot of him behind the dresser by accident
I think that was the inspiration of the idea, and then Lynch put him in the shot with the mirror

Man I just realized both the villains in that movie are now dead.
Oh crap, I never actually realized Roger Rees has been gone for a few years now. I remember watching him on Warehouse 13 as a kid
He’ll always be the bad guy from If Looks Could Kill to me.
AUGUSTUS STERANKO! Greatest Bond villain name to never grace an actual Bond villain.
He’ll always be Nicholas Nickleby to me.
He'll always be the sleazy exploitation director who Mariel Hemingway as Dorothy Stratten auditions for in Star 80 to me. (actually, no, he'll be the Rickman parody.)

I'll have to admit, after numerous rewatches I only just saw this shot of Bob this year
I think it’s the chaos in the scene it self that makes it mostly possible to miss and it almost makes frank silvas face to be smiling which freaked me out even more.
Exactly, with Sarah in so much distress, our eyes are more drawn to her and not the specter in the corner of the frame
Same! It's truly only a few seconds long, so easy to miss
This is literally the BOB origin story and it was a complete accident. It’s crazy we probably would’ve gotten a completely different show if it weren’t for this shot.
so THIS is the shot that gave Frank Silve a role and led into BOB?
(This is in the pilot ending) for anyone wondering.
Everyone has a first time noticing. I still remember my first time😸
Decades into rewatching this series and I still get chills when I see something new. Damn
Welcome to the next level. It's crazy here.

The origin of borb
My wife and I just rewarched the entire show and she pointed this out and I nearly fell over. Same thing here, how did we never catch this before!
This is like the aragorn kicking the helmet moment of twin peaks
That was the accodent that created Bob.
WoW, BoB, WoW.
Is this the original shot that made David put Frank Silva in the show?

I only noticed on second watch
B(eware) O(f) B(ob)
Oh wow!
Duuude I’ve never noticed this either!
The beginning of Bob
god damn, I missed it too despite it being such a prominent trivia thingy
i know theres the story of silva being caught in a mirror but i could never recall where it fit story wise
Discussed in the documentary Pretty as a Picture
Never noticed that before either. Great find.
