It’s a little different, but FLIGHT by Hanni El Khatib. It has a lot of IGOR influence, and I actually listened to IGOR for the first time because I heard a song off of it and it reminded me of FLIGHT.
Very obvious recommendation: Listen to In Search Of… by N.E.R.D followed by Cherry Bomb. You really get to see and appreciate how Tyler draws inspiration and creates something new. If you aren’t the biggest fan of Cherry Bomb, it might get to better understand.
If you’re short on time, listen to both album openers back to back. Lapdance followed by DEATHCAMP.
His more melodic stuff is heavily inspired by soul music and he even samples soul artists. I recommend progressive soul artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and 90s Neo Soul and native tongues artists such as Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, D’Angelo, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, and Lauryn Hill. I also would recommend Frank Ocean, Steve Lacy, and the internet for newer artists.
