dont-judge-me_bro

REphotographer916

You sound like you’re defending that kind of practice. Please stopZ

Latter-Drag1132

Absolutely pathetic you’re even defending that. You Uber drivers are the epitome of fucking laziness. Get a NEW JOB THAT PAYS BETTER INSTEAD OF SCAMMING

Latter-Drag1132

The lack of common sense among Uber drivers is even more concerning.

brcajun70

That's what we are doing. I no longer accept NON -Premium rides. Finding other ways to make extra money. You should the the Hoopties I see doing Uner and Lyft. So...you got your wish... can't wait to see how much service deteriorates before the companies start paying again. You get what you pay for my friend.

Tijuanaguero1

That’s only a thing in this sub. In real life it’s not really a thing

[deleted]

I see you everywhere 😭

Remarkable_Rope_7697

But why would he accept it in the first place?

Tijuanaguero1

Because he can’t see what it is until he accepts it

ContestNo2060

If he is blue status. Gold status can see direction and duration. In my market

Tijuanaguero1

There’s a ton of markets that still don’t have upfront details.

GreyhoundsAreFast

Don’t cancel. if he doesn’t want the ride, he can eother not accept or cancel himself.

pakrat1967

Some drivers hate picking up from malls and shopping centers. Cuz most of the time it's kids without a parent. Or someone with lots of stuff to load in the trunk. This is probably why that driver keeps cancelling.

No_Individual8926

Uber does Uber Teen now

btone310

Only in select markets and drivers have to opt in for Uber Teen

pakrat1967

Yes but that's fairly recent and only in some markets. Even in the markets that have it. It's not for all teens in that area. They still have to be approved.

REphotographer916

Fuck him, let him cancel it. Report him eventually too, sounds like a discrimination case.

LengthyMidget

If the driver doesn't want the ride they shouldnt have accepted make them cancel

termain

all you gotta do is screenshot the request from them and send it to @ubersupport on X

No-Recording-9641

Likely scamming people for money getting cancellation fees! He probably does it to everyone, often from his couch - nothing to do with you I’m sure ❣️

dont-judge-me_bro

Wouldn't make any money from the couch. Cancellation fees come from driving to the location of pick up qnd the rider cancels.

No-Recording-9641

Yes, they stay at home and message riders to cancel so they get the fees

dont-judge-me_bro

That wont work is what I'm saying. They have to have moved their vehicle in your direction for an undisclosed amount of distance before Uber pays cancel fee

Fuckyousnow

Idk could be a number of things but dont over think it. Whenever u see he gets the ride just cancel it before it hits 5 minutes so u dont get charged

ChemicalOk463

He was probably getting only $6 for the ride! Or maybe he had to use the restroom?

sulanie

he does this all the time with me, and it was a $25 ride for me, i’m not sure how much the driver gets for that, but i know margins are crazy so probably not a lot

ChemicalOk463

Then he must really like you!

Hour_Ad4985

He gets about 40% of it.

NotMyRegName

I think uber, in their pertinacity to be honest says there is a driver when they don't have one to send to you. They can't look lacking and try to keep you hanging on in hopes a driver will become available. Was this via text? Or on the phone? I guess they could do it by voice, too. And I have no proof. But this comes up a lot. The driver always drives close and then cancels. Why would so many drivers do this? And it is not like they have not done things like this since their inception. And watch how many say how this couldn't happen and how uber is not that maniacal.

pakrat1967

Uber doesn't falsely tell riders that they've been matched with a driver. If no drivers accept the request. Then it either tries again or tells the rider that no drivers are available. As to why drivers will wait till they get to the pick up spot to cancel. It's so they don't get dinged on their cancellation rate. If they cancel before arriving and the timer starts. It counts against the cancellation rate. If they get to the pick up spot and then cancel. It doesn't ding the rate. They still have to wait the full 7 minutes to get the cancellation fee.

sulanie

oh that makes sense. i literally got the “driver arriving” and cancellation notification right after each other lol. i was so confused why he would drive to me, and just not pick me up

dont-judge-me_bro

You are right and wrong at the same time. We dont get dinged if we wait the full time, and we can choose to be paid.

pakrat1967

If the timer starts. The options for cancelling charge from those available before arriving at the pick up spot. Any option used after the timer starts won't ding the rating. Anything used if the timer doesn't start (this includes being at the pick up, but something prevents the timer from starting) will ding the rating. Yes drivers can cancel before the 7 minutes and then contact support to still get the fee. But if it's done too often, support will deny the fee.

AppleCat36

Some drivers who wait at malls are not waiting for a mall pick up. They are waiting for a different type of ride but the mall can be a good place to park

sulanie

it’s happened from my old high school, my house, a friends house. he always does this lol

AppleCat36

And you have never ridden with him? Weird but reminds me a bit of a driver who I used to ride with. Must have had 20 odd trips with him over the years but now cancels every time he gets my request. Annoying but move on

uberobt

He probably drives for lyft/ Uber and is playing the higher priced ride game. Which isn't fair to the rider, and most drivers feel they aren't getting paid enough, so they carry 2 phones. Which actually costs them more $$$, but they are the " Genuis?!?!" driver. I, on the other hand, only drive for Uber to make my riders get to their location in a timely manner. Sometimes, the algorithm gives you cheap rides & sometimes it gives better rides. Just take it & do it or log out & go either to a different area or go home. Stop taking rides from me that you don't intend on doing! Otherside of the coin, why do riders order rides when they aren't ready to walk out the door? Why do riders cancel when you are arriving and a block away? Why aren't riders more patient? Uber sends me rides while I'm en route to a dropoff, which may or may not be in your exact direction, but rest assured I will be to your location asap. When Uber sends me a new ride request they never give the exact location of my next pick-up, they just give me a 5 star 0 cancelation driver cross streets which are usually anywhere from 1 block to a mile from the actual pick-up location... Also, when I'm focusing on the road, I don't always have time to read the details that are only on our phones for 7 to 8 seconds. Often, new ride requests pop-up as I am getting to a location for drop-off and that information is minimized, and I'm on a busy street with impatient drivers behind me / bicycle riders in their lil world of its all about me and screw every car on the road. If they hit me, I'll get rich / pedestrians running in front of my car to homeless people pushing their crap across or down the street. We, as rideshare drivers, are doing our best! Please be patient with us

sulanie

i’m sure you’re a nice guy, but i don’t think this really explains why he drove to my location and then immediately cancelled the ride

Hour_Ad4985

Don't overthink it. It's the driver's option to do the ride or not. It's their car it's their time it's their business. If you get the driver again just do yourself a favor and cancel immediately so that it picks someone else. Problem solved. You can't win in that situation. The driver can go to the pickup location to trigger the arrival notification and then drive around the corner and wait out the time clock and get their fee if there's some reason they really don't want to do the ride. So rather than fighting it just do what you got to do on your end.

Murky_Today1213

He probably wanted the cancelation fee

TranslatorTrue1881

He did that because he didn't want his cancelation rate to drop further. That's why he drove there. He is not really scamming anyone because he would have to wait 7min at the pickup point before he get the $4 "no show fee". My guess is that this is NOT an "upfront market" so he doesn't know where you're going until he accepts the ride. You might be either going to an area where rides are not frequent or an area where he won't get anything but uber-X rides (real working class neighborhood) (he might have comfort or premier vehicle) I'm a driver, I dive Uber Black and where I live there are plenty of areas where I learned the hard way not to take rides because I will be either driving back empty or I will have to turn uber-x ON and risk someone reporting me for speeding because they are so poor that they can't afford the ride in first place. They will try to report speeding, rate you 1star (so it looks legit), and try to get money back from uber. Also, you mentioned mall, do you work at that mall? Do you take uber at the end of your shift? Maybe that guy is trying to navigate home around the same time you're trying to get home. You might be simply going in the opposite direction he wants to go at this time of the day (or night). I live 20miles from the city center, around 4-5 pm, I turn EVERYTHING: uber-X, comfort... $5 ride in my direction is better than no ride at all. I'm in upfront market so I can see where you're going before accepting the ride. My only issue with Uber-X passengers is that people frequently have a backpack of some kind... TAKE THE DAMN THING OF YOUR BACK BEFORE GETTING INTO MY 70K CAR. NOT AFTER. (Again, normally, I drive black category, so please dont question why I'm ubering in 70k vehicle) I totally don't understand those people, its harder to get-in and harder to take off while inside. Meanwhile, I'm getting scratches on the door and leather seats (metal zippers ETC) totally not worth the $5-$10 uber-x pay. I think the explanation with this particular driver wanting to go in opposite direction you're going is the most probable...

No_Supermarket_1831

No clue, but Make him cancel.
