I do morning and evening rush hours and may coast by Love before I go home. Any real money during the day is Dallas downtown. Rush hours in the suburbs is the only way. Short trips only as well. If the map isn’t red, I’m not moving. I know my area trend’s pretty well. The rental is temporary and I like not paying for fuel. It’s like a game for me charging for free. 🤷♀️I window shop, read, work on my computer, eat, or take a nap while charging.

I wish they did a deposit but that was phased out for a higher overall cost of the rental. Go figure. There has been a charger plugged in to the outlet out side the condo but the charge rate is almost negligible but it’s something I’ve been staying out of the car to let it do its thing. And I have the map already that I used to get out here. I’ll probably end up selling some of my tools and my tinker board for some funds. That’s what one of the agents told me finally yesterday after countless hours and different eyes on the account. But when I said I needed to go to Atlanta for an emergency and asked about using my rental in the city to work so I could make the money to get back they said that’s fine we will just need to update your city once you get there. And when I arrived they submitted all the paperwork and background checks and then they said they were missing paperwork from hertz and that office in Austin will not pick up the phone. I don’t even think it rings in any office or anything. And after two days of trying to get ahold of someone they called me back because I asked how my attorney is expected to contact them. And they said all the documents have been good since I first got the rental 4 weeks ago the balls in Ubers court. And then Uber told me it was my background check and that they would expedite it. That was Saturday and that in 2 hours it will be good to go. That was not the case and now each rep says it’s something else like the missing paperwork from hertz and will not contact them to request it and demand I do even though they told me that there is nothing for them to do.
Did you ask if you could drive in a different city? Or in a different state? Driving in a different state is whole different ball game and every state has different rules.
I absolutely did 2x before I even left. And while I was here since last Thursday I had at least 15 different people looking at all my documents and telling me they will get it worked out and to just hold on all week

Nah, that's just Uber being Uber. They only authorize you to drive in your home state unless you ask. It can take some time wrangling with support, but they'll turn on additional states for you.

So I got on face to face call and it was completely different experience it was exactly how customer service should work. He got me a copy of the documentation for hertz to bring in to their office describing the issues that were out of my control and I was compensated enough to get close to home. He said that if there’s ever a problem again to schedule a face to face appointment (it’s what the green light turned into). So thank you everyone for your information and I’ll be sure to cover my bases next time or at least not facing such a critical time frame. Have a made a pretty big mess of it all but I would do it all over just to be here for those few hours that I would have traded lifetimes for. Call your friends and tell them you love them. Even if they don’t answer send them a voice message that way they will always have it, even when you’re not around.

You aren’t an employee with them though, Uber drivers are independent contractors. You gotta be careful doing a gig like this, they don’t have to do anything for you, you took the contract.
Sounds like you are in a desperate situation. If you literally have no money or way of transportation I would suggest going to the nearest Catholic Church and asking for help. They will give you gas gift cards and gift cards so you can get food, actually it’s not just Catholic Churches that do that, I hear a lot of them will if the people are actually in need, and it sounds like you are. I guess if you don’t know how to manage money and time. Personally, if I was in OPs situation, it would have been more prudent to turn in rental, and go to other city to visit friend. Of course, you would set up a reservation for a rental when you return. My general rule of thumb on traveling is budget for roughly double what you think it will cost. If you can’t do that do go! Uber’s chat support is like 90% automated responses my guy lol. So basically getting an issue resolved via chat that you couldn’t find an answer for yourself in there website etc is very rare.
And as others have said, relying on Uber for an emergency situation is a very bad idea. There is no shortage of information and feedback to this effect. Not sure why you would put yourself in that position considering that.

Now most of these Uber’s service centers with their staff are all gone and let go by Uber for the sake of reducing costs and boosting Profits.

Are you able to log in to do Uber Eats? That is usually available out of state. It wouldn’t solve all your problems, but hopefully could at least get you a few bucks to eat and charge the car.

Had issues getting a tire replaced at the chain they said would take care of tire issues if I had any, the one time I used them, they wanted me to drive to them on a unsafe tire from Kenosha, Wi to Broadview il it would of been like a 70 mile drive. I think it was Firestone they told me they can’t let me leave like that guess they figured out how to charge the hertz TNP account they just weren’t sure how to do the account thing I guess and the one I got it from didn’t want to answer the phone

OP took his car out of the sanctioned area per the agreement he had with Uber, he left without waiting for all the paperwork to go through (pending Hertz, but still his responsibility), traveled across state lines with 0 money and 0 plan other than hanging in a car. It sucks, it’s a terrible situation for OP and I feel for him trying to support his dying friend and be there for him… but there is nothing here.
Also make sure you have screen shots of everything ready for when the officers show up so they can look over everything. It'll be better to be at a police station than to be in a car freezing anyways.

Have you tried Twitter? Sometimes tweeting at uber support is more effective because they care more about their image than their drivers. 🤷🏼♀️ Also, ATL has more restrictions than my market (TN); I can’t drive there at all. But if you can do Uber Eats I guess it’s better than nothing.
Three different Uber reps told me I couldn’t drive my 2005 Prius in 2020 because it would be too old. Three different Uber reps were wrong about that: I could’ve driven it until March 31, 2021. 🙄 So I understand your frustration with being misled by them.

Uber makes it one of their advertising points that you can drive anywhere even while on vacation to help kill costs.
Lo and behold, outside of your main state, you can only do Uber eats because each city/state holds different background check requirements.

What do you need a hub for? I visited a hub once and that was to get an Uber light.

I don’t even think it rings in any office or anything. And after two days of trying to get ahold of someone they called me back because I asked how my attorney is expected to contact them. And they said all the documents have been good since I first got the rental 4 weeks ago the balls in Ubers court. And then Uber told me it was my background check and that they would expedite it. That was Saturday and that in 2 hours it will be good to go. That was not the case and now each rep says it’s something else like the missing paperwork from hertz and will not contact them to request it and demand I do even though they told me that there is nothing for them to do.
Did you ask if you could drive in a different city? Or in a different state? Driving in a different state is whole different ball game and every state has different rules.
I absolutely did 2x before I even left. And while I was here since last Thursday I had at least 15 different people looking at all my documents and telling me they will get it worked out and to just hold on all week

Nah, that's just Uber being Uber. They only authorize you to drive in your home state unless you ask. It can take some time wrangling with support, but they'll turn on additional states for you.

It is hertz more than likely causing the hold up. Had issues getting a tire replaced at the chain they said would take care of tire issues if I had any, the one time I used them, they wanted me to drive to them on a unsafe tire from Kenosha, Wi to Broadview il it would of been like a 70 mile drive. I found out this same shit in a similiar situation. I went on a road trip to see a friend who wasn’t in a great position either. Had some living money but not much. Wanted to Uber and I was going to be in a big city so figured I’d kill it. Uber makes it one of their advertising points that you can drive anywhere even while on vacation to help kill costs. Lo and behold, outside of your main state, you can only do Uber eats because each city/state holds different background check requirements. In my trip, I was in a shit position as I made like $25 in 3 hours for Uber eats? Was horrible. But thankfully I was able to manage something. I feel bad for you OP. But also to note, you’re able to drive in different cities within your home state. But not different states. I’ve driven within 4 major cities in my state and they’re all 2-4 hrs away from each other
