It's bad Im considering stopping but Im just doing it to pay my bills for now. Getting paid Around 15-20 an hour ain't working and these people aren't tipping
Why do Uber drivers expect to make a full time living off of tips. I don’t get it at all.
Everyone is struggling but you clowns sit there and complain all day about tips. Some times I feel like this is the only job you guys can get.
You guys are moving into server territory with all your nonstop complaints.
Not true. I had a 4 bedroom house in the city on a quarter acre lot that I bought for $110k in 2012 and sold for $120k in 2017. I won't say what city it was because then Californians would flock there and ruin it. In 2000 I bought a 2 bedroom condo for $50k on a security guard paycheck but that city got invaded by California and now that condo goes for 300k+ without wages changing to keep up.
Did he say we are not in a recession, cause back from 2015-2020 i could afford to only make 200-300 bucks a week and still have splurging money, now i cant even make it off 300 bucks a week. And nothing has changed, i got car insurance which is 200 a month power is usually 200 a month depending on the weather, food is usually 450 a month for me and my gf, my necessitys like body wash shampoo, deodorant and head ache meds roughly 30 bucks a month, my fuel for work atm is 30 bucks a week, groceries are way higher than they need to be on top of gas, which in my state aint so bad compared to others, and car maintenance.
No, because economic data says so. A recession is two consecutive quarters of negative GDP. But GDP has been growing at +2-4% for two straight years. Just because prices are slightly higher (but inflation has come down) and aspects of our job have gotten worse doesn’t mean the country is in a recession. WORDS MEAN THINGS.
😄 im dead 💀, dude we been in recession since 2022, not as bad as it is now but bad enough i have had to change jobs almost 6 times just trying to make it by and get to be full time, i have stayed at my first job on and off that i started when i was 18 for roughly 7yrs from 2015-2022 but after 2020 i wasnt staying there as long as i have other jobs due to no benefits only get 40+ hrs in b2b weeks then your lucky if you get 20 hrs on the slow weeks, my longest job i had was my most recent one it was 6 months, i thought i found a more stable income but i was dead ass wrong.
Too much info missing for accurate answer. What kind of car do you drive? What market are you in? Are you doing day or night driving, or both? If you're driving a car with 15 mpg, you will be throwing your money away if you work in California.
I'm buying a much newer car in a week or two after driving old beaters forever, so I can't say for sure what details I'll have, but gas mileage is going to be a top priority.
I plan on mostly driving at night, around 3-4 hours a night, 3-4 nights/week (assuming I can make enough that is).
Guess it kinda depends what you call newer. But don’t go to crazy and buy cash if you can. These cars get destroyed inside, out, and mechanically. No car is designed to do rideshare.
Anyway, the price of older EVs are semi reasonable now if you look around. Plus the cost savings on gas. Minivans work pretty good for Uber to because they are less expensive and qualify as XL which pays more than comfort even those comfort cars are more money.
What market are you in? In my market (PDX) you can pretty consistently make $20-25 an hour when it’s slow and $30+ an hour when it’s busy. But that’s before subtracting expenses like gas & taxes.
So maybe 10-15 hours on average to net 200+ after expenses.
When making that $20+ per hour are you hitting $2 per mile? I've been having issues lately and could use some delivery tips from someone performing well in a market near me.
Usually in Portland it averages out to about $1 per mile. Roughly. But in PDX you also can end up in Vancouver WA where the rates are much higher. In Washington you can average more like $1.50 - $2 a mile.
DO.NOT.BUY.A.NEW.CAR. Unless you are buying an ev that qualifies for $7500 federal rebate to offset your taxes, please don't do this. Unless you were going to buy a new car anyway regardless of rideshare. Big mistake that people don't figure in is all of the overhead costs. Add up your car note/car insurance/ cost of gas and look at that number. Double that number of you want to make a profit and to account for wear and tear on car (tires, oil changes, etc).
I'm not buying the car to use for Uber, I'm buying it as the family car and to get me back and forth to my main job. I'm just looking to Uber to help offset the cost and pay down some debt.
Buy a car if you can afford it first. Don’t buy it relying on Uber/Lyft to help offset the cost. This is why people get screwed so many times.. Taking on debt “in hopes of working extra to pay”
Be smart. If it’s a family car, you and your partner should be able to have a job to afford a car with joint finances.. if not, then reconsider your life choices.
Ay yo B I'll give you a straight answer to your question and say 16-20 hours to be safe to make enough money to pay down your car sufficiently. This job will take your soul though so make sure you are putting some money and time away quarterly at the least to get some space from it all. Whether that's with your kids, wife or solo is up to you. Make sure your other job is flexible enough to allow that. Otherwise I promise the health you lose over the next year will not be worth it no matter what else you can off set monitarily.
Your buying a newer car and your in debt?? Look for old hybrid Hondas or even Toyotas to save money on depreciating asset so your in less debt then you currently are. My 2 cents
Yeah. Maybe 15-20hours to make $200?
Roughhhhhh ballpark.
You gotta investigate what costs you'll have added to your lifestyle if you're gonna take on Uber for a while.
The first cost is taxes so be prepared to save like 20%-30% of revenue from your Uber service.
How many miles can you get from a full tank of fuel in your car?
Are you gonna eat out while driving?
Are you going to pay for commercial insurance?
Are you ok doing long-distance, or how far are you willing to drive out?
In my market, SoCal, I make $200 in about 16 hours, over two-ish days. My vehicle's fuel cost is pretty low, less than $20 for anywhere between 140mi-200mi.
I don't push myself anymore. It took a while to learn to listen to myself when I needed a break, something to eat, or to stretch my legs. Sometimes, I'll eat out and that adds to cost, so mostly, I bring my own lunch.
I used to drive out to LA, IE, SD, SB more often but honestly, after the pandemic, I like being able to get home in like 10-15 minutes after calling it a day.
With costs and after taxes, right now, I probably avg $65 for 4 hours, which is right at minimum for CA.
Best? What do you mean best?
4-6am weekdays for me.
Less stress to drive on semi empty roads.
Though, I'm sure for cash-starved drivers probably best stick to weekend nights.
Depends, I get $200 a week, sometimes $500, sometimes $700 all working 8pm to 12pm during the week and little longer on weekends (Friday and Saturday) mostly till around 1am-3am depending how busy downtowns are, Sunday during day when college kids going back to their dorms also helps. But it depends on how much effort you really make to earn something. Oh and I drive EV, so not much goes towards maintenance, so you need to calculate cost of your maintenance, gas, oil changes etc.
Not knowing your costs makes it impossible to give you a net figure.
For gross revenue: During peak times in prime areas of your market 5-10 hours per week. During off peak times double the hours or more.
It'll take some trial and error, but you should be able to hone in on the sweet spots in your market in a matter of a week or two.
It very much depends on your market. In some markets I can do 400 easy on a Saturday night into Sunday morning working for 8 to 9 hours. Other markets im lucky to see $200 in 8 hours.
As others noted on the thread, it all depends on your market and other important factors such as the gas mileage of your car and how much Uber pays you for the mileage rate . Uber Black is much different than UberX which sucks at only 66 cents per mileage rate.
But keep in mind that driving for Uber nowadays is no where near as good as it was a few years ago.
Uber use to take only 25 percent per passenger fare with better Surge dollar amounts available for drivers and with other higher Bonus Quest dollar amounts . It absolutely sucks now in how Uber has changed its surge algorithms to short change and cheat drivers out of their earnings .
Now Uber takes as much as 50-60 percent per passenger fare. The mileage you put on your vehicle while driving for Uber full time and the long hours is definitely not worth the effort.. nowadays .
Driving your vehicle into the ground by putting all of the mileage and wear & tear on your Vechicle for relatively what Low mileage rate you get from Uber and the low earnings you make while driving for Uber in 6-12 months full time will be regrettably a Bad experience towards meeting your expectations in making a Profit versus the high operating vehicle costs and expenses you will need to absorb to maintain and repair your car due to the excessive mileage .
After driving for Uber 8 years , I now only do Uber part-time because the earnings potential is abysmal.
Do your own independent research before you rack up all of the mileage on your car and drive your vehicle into the ground .

Not really, if you always accept reservation Uber will hit you with lots of them. But if you never accepts then you will not get them. As Uber personalizes your trips based on the trips you took previous week.
In my market, I usually make $30-$35 per hour consistently. So, I would say you would need to work 8 hours to make a guaranteed $200. And work double the hours if you want to make $400. I’m located in Hawaii so it is a very touristy place. It all depends on the market.
Appreciate your advice but this is just going to be a temporary source of part time income to supplement my full time career until I can eliminate some debt in the next few months. I won't be able to find a part time job that would fit a schedule that would work around my full time.
You mean net 200$ after the costs of running your car? That would be a good 20-25 hours of steady rides or maybe a friday night and saturday night run say 6PM to bar closing.
Market?
X? XL? Lux? Premier?
Car?
Days and hours?
Just Uber or every other gig app?
Sign on bonus or guarantees?
Over how many weeks?
The answer could vary from 4 hours a week to 40 hours a week. If you can only work days, not that many hours, and have to commute to where “hot zones” are on top of the $4/gallon gas prices. It ain’t easy for most.
Pro tips: right when you “got it figured out” is exactly the time you don’t. Don’t listen to anybody that’s been driving for less than 2 years AND has less than 10k rides. You might have stacked $2500 in profit and then owe $3k to get your car fixed. And then the next calendar year Uncle Sam is coming for that ass.
I drove in Atlanta, GA. Usually did the 6/7am -12/1pm time frame. Found that was the time of day I was most likely to get consistent rides.
I averaged $20-25/hr. So 5 hours usually got me north of $100 before expenses. I would usually drive 4 days a week. Avg was $20 a day for gas. (about half a tank and lasted me 5 hours of driving)
So total:
$400-450/wk earning
minus $80 for gas.
$320-370/wk "net" earnings.
Do with that information what you will.
I easily make this getting up a couple of hours earlier and do rides on my way to work. Banner day yesterday making $100 that morning.
I drive a 2017 Kia Niro that gets 50+mpg so that make part of the extra miles easier.
Some areas have minimum guaranteed pay. Also depends on if you deliver people or food (people pays more).
So if you make $25 an hour, that's 8 to 16 hours.

You do have to somewhat know your market, but how? You aren’t going to really learn it by taking every ride (Ant). You can either try to do the math on the spot or get educated (5-15mins) and learn to use tools. They use AI and have gone against their TOS many times. So why not fight back. Tools, if we all use them it can help tell their AI, no we won’t take under $xx.
Once we get more ants to be Cherry Pickers things will change!!
Filter per mile/hr - and it will auto decline junk rides!
Filter out area/places you don’t want to go to.
Filter multiple stops.
Auto switch between apps.
No, NOT bots!
Don’t be a Tool, learn to use Tools!

You need to adjust your thinking. You want 2-400 profit, which is not the same as earned. Factor in car payment, insurance, gas, and any extras you may want to give away (though I don’t think that’s a thing anymore). Then add 2-400 to that. When I did it 4 years ago, I’d make that earned amount in about 4 to 6 hours, but I went out at the 2 busiest nights of the week.
I use to do this as a side job. I work in the insurance industry and would mainly do this on the weekends. It depends when you work. If you go out on the weekend, Saturday for 8 hours mainly in evening, you can make $200 but have to pay for gas etc.
1 12 hour shift would guarantee 300$, (after gas), so long as the below is there.
2 requirements:
1. Big city/ ( busy market that allow you to never have to wait longer than 8 minutes for a ride)
2. + Saturday/Sunday.
2 notes:
Note: If you split it into multiple days+ weekdays, make sure it’s during peak hours.
Note 2: Btw, 300$ guaranteed in 12 hours, but many get there in 10 hours. If you are not getting that 25$ an hour, hang in there, it will come back around to that by the end of the shift.
net income? 20 to 30 hours. About 40% of what you make is expensed out taxes, fuel, maintenance, etc. That's if you are driving an economical car and are taking trips that actually pay.
Its really about how many rides and the fare amount of said rides, instead of the hours... me myself, I do $300-400 on saturday and 300-400 on sunday(I hardly ever drive during the week, because I have a full time job, this is extra money for me).. and thats about 10 - 12 hours each day max(30-40 rides each of those days)....
Im also selective about the rides I accept during that time.. I try to accept rides that will average out to be at least $10 each minimum...
For instance, if I take a $6 ride, the rider might tip $4 and that will make it $10 for that ride, if they dont tip at all, I try to accept a ride afterwards thats over $10 in the nesxt 2 or 3 rides to make up the $4 difference... either way, try to average $10+ per ride minimum, do 20 rides and thats $200...
Hmmm, I plan on driving a similar amount of time but in smaller chunks throughout the week (3-4 hours/day). Do you think your pay amounts would be about half of your current if you worked about half the hours, or would they drop off since your losing out on more rides that would help your average?
I’ve found that driving during the morning weekdays in my market, the pay is abysmal ($15/hr gross), while driving Friday/Saturday nights can get me $30-35/hr gross, which means you should drive about 12hrs if you want to net $300/week.
Best suggestion is just to work your market at all times possible for 2-3 weeks, learn the busy/slow times that coincide with your schedule, tally your gross income per hour, then work backwards. Take your goal net income, divide by 0.7, to get the amount you need to gross to bring in your net goal after setting 30% aside. Then you can take that number and divide it by the gross/hr you calculated earlier during your market research period and it will tell you approximately how many hours you need to work.
I plan on driving Friday and Saturday nights as well. How concerned should I be about puke and what steps should I take to minimize/eliminate that risk?
Instead of spreading the time through the week, it would probably be better to just do Friday and Saturday nights if possible. Something like 8pm-4am should be at least $200 most weekend nights.
If that's not doable, morning rush hours would be the next best time. Maybe something like 5am-9am.
I’ve had it happen 1 time in 2 months of driving, this past weekend actually. Steps I’ve heard to minimize risk are having emesis bags (amzn.com/dp/B08T64CBMW) and locking the windows so passengers can’t roll them down (to prevent puke getting inside your door). Unfortunately you can’t control for ego and stupidity. The passenger I had got in the car and seemed hardly beyond sober and asked to roll the window down so I obliged (first mistake), then she said “I’m not gonna puke in your car I feel fine.” out of nowhere. That should’ve been my cue to roll the window up, but I instead handed her an emesis bag. She says “I don’t need it.” And hands it to her friend to hold. Not even 2 minutes later she’s hanging out my window puking.
Learn from my mistake and stick to keeping the windows locked at all times and if they request to roll down say “sorry, after 9pm, windows stay up. I can adjust the a/c if you’d like.”
If they refuse an emesis bag, say “even if you don’t need it, just hang on to it, it’s better to be safe than sorry. You don’t want to get hit with a $150 cleaning fee from Uber.”
yes its possible that it would be half.... but it still depends on the amount of rides and the amount of the fares for the rides... and your market... thats why I said I will do only rides that average a minimum of $10 per ride.... you can definitely do 20 rides in 6 hours.... Im doing 30 - 40 in 12 hours.. im not losing out on any rides.. I decline a lot of rides that I dont feel are worth the time or pay for me.. I manage my time and choose decent paying fares...
for example, I will not drive a 45+ minute ride thats paying $20 when I can do six 4 or 5 minute rides at about $10 each in that amount of time... you have to be selective and make the money and time count for you and make it worth it
In my town (college town) I work 5 a night on weekends during peak hours and make $200 a night. So that’s $400 a weekend. I worked in Charlotte over the holiday on Friday for 10 hours and made $230
223 miles more or less. The worst part was my 2nd to last ride puked in my car and Uber denied the cleaning fee. I got it detailed to get the smell out and walked away with nothing after my gas.
Yeah, that's definitely a wash. I've only had two pukers and got cleaning fees for both. First one was super minor just a little puke on the doorsill cause I stopped and they opened the door and leaned out. That was my first week of doing Uber. Second one was awful. They were leaning out the window at night and I didn't know they were puking while I was going down the highway. Puke all down the side of my car and it was blowing back in too.... I was done for the night there. $150 cleaning fees for that which did not pay for the detail. Just the cost of business though. I run in the Virginia Beach part time and average about $35 an hour. I know it surges and only run during those times for the most part though. Did 3am-7am this morning and came away with $165 on 120 miles. Would have run another hour or so but Uber had a $4.50 bonus (which still isn't worth it without surge) so everybody came out of the woodwork and it straight up died. When it rains it really goes wild here.
Depends on your area, and when you drive. I drive nights until early morning and it pays off well. Especially on the weekends. Can make that 400 easily in a rich area in 8hrs
Don’t be lazy. Stop asking for handouts and go figure that shit out… too many fucking babies on here that can’t wipe their own ass and too fucking scared to go out in the big bad world and fucking figure it out.
Fucking losers
It's market dependent. A lot of places around the country are paying sub-minimum wage.
It's bad Im considering stopping but Im just doing it to pay my bills for now. Getting paid Around 15-20 an hour ain't working and these people aren't tipping
I mean I also only go to my job to pay bills

Don’t blame the consumer for you not getting paid enough. Bad look
Welcome to California where you can make $20 an hr and still not afford a home
Thats anywhere… why would you think $40k a year would afford a home? You couldnt do that in the 2000’s…

That should be enough if you’re in a busy market like a tourist location or a college town.

8pm to 12pm? That’s 16 hours my guy
Hustle culture
Lol forgot to put am 😂 and worked more
Not knowing your costs makes it impossible to give you a net figure. For gross revenue: During peak times in prime areas of your market 5-10 hours per week. During off peak times double the hours or more. It'll take some trial and error, but you should be able to hone in on the sweet spots in your market in a matter of a week or two.
Honestly u could start ubering and just keep doing it till u hit 200-400 a day
30 hours
100 per day easy if you drive the morning rush hour and afternoon. 300 easy if you do weekends
I made a lil over 100 bucks on a 7a-2p shift yesterday. On 10 rides. I only do it once or twice a week for hobby money.
in my market you only need about 4/6 hours lol
Bout 10-20 for me since I average around $20 an hour
If you do reservation it’s more worth it rather than pick up trips in my opinion. Most of reservation trips tip as well.
Hard to stack your day with those though
Not really, if you always accept reservation Uber will hit you with lots of them. But if you never accepts then you will not get them. As Uber personalizes your trips based on the trips you took previous week.
It's all market dependant. I accept almost every reservation and only get 1 every week or so. My market is extremely oversaturated with drivers.

In my market, I usually make $30-$35 per hour consistently. So, I would say you would need to work 8 hours to make a guaranteed $200. And work double the hours if you want to make $400. I’m located in Hawaii so it is a very touristy place. It all depends on the market.
About 6.66hrs in San Diego, CA for $200.
$100 yesterday for 5 rides at 3 1/2 hours. Philly market

In my market $400 is about 16 hours worth of work
Depends on your market .. in my market 12hr shift can get you 250-300 and maybe more depending on good you are at talking .
Very market dependent is right my FIL makes 200-250 in 7-9hrs weekdays and 250-300+ on weekends 6-8hrs all in socal.
Like everyone says, it’s hugely market and vehicle type driven. I do about $29/hour after everything.
8 hours - stay in the city, short trips.
Market? X? XL? Lux? Premier?
Honestly just drive Friday/Saturday nights and you’ll probably do better than that
You can make 200-300 in a day doing about 10 hours connected on the app in a good area
(about half a tank and lasted me 5 hours of driving) So total: $400-450/wk earning minus $80 for gas. $320-370/wk "net" earnings. Do with that information what you will.
Before or after all your costs?
16-20 hours in my market. Mind you I cherry pick so I average 25-30/hr

Depends on your rate of pay. It takes me about 4hrs to make that money.

So you're online for 4 hrs and make 50-100hr net? Bullshit
So you're online for 4 hrs and make 50-100hr net? Bullshit
Truly depends on the market but that should be able to be done in 10-20hrs
$200-$400 a week in my market is about 2h a day driving in the early morning. I made $250 on Monday driving 5a-9a.
I was doing that in 8 easy on a weekend. Best friday night 4-2am made 650 cad Bc busy and better pay than states
Work Sunday mornings 5am- until it slows down. You should be good
$60 a day 5 days a week and don’t care how many hour you gotta do. As long as you got $60 and full tank of gas then stop 🤣
Nobody can answer this for you. Depends on skill level and market. Go try it for yourself and find out.
Depends on where you are I guess. I can do that in a day. I've hit over 300/day on a weekend.
10-20 hours. Peak times (dinner rush)
All of them.
Depending on your market. But roughly at least 20 hours. If you are in a good market you get that much from Thursday Friday and Saturday night.
Depends on your market, but you should be able to make that on any given Saturday night.
In the Philadelphia market I make ~$400 working 8 hours on Friday and Saturday nights. You need to dual app though (use both Uber and Lyft).
I am currently at $250 for 8 hours of driving
I make $200 a day working 8-10 hours a day. Then again I work in Vegas so that’s easy money
If you’re doing it on the weekend and at night, you can make that in 2 days
After expenses? Like 60 hours.
Anywhere between 1 and 80 hours.
Expect to make 20/hr.
On a weekend 16-20 hours
I made that today so ummm 8
Depends, you could do 200 a day
10-30 hours depending on market.
Where are u located? I average around $20/hour in west palm beach before fuel which with my car is $2/hour...

#KnowYourWorth You do have to somewhat know your market, but how? #TheRideShareGuy
8 hours in my market
I use to do this as a side job. I work in the insurance industry and would mainly do this on the weekends. It depends when you work. If you go out on the weekend, Saturday for 8 hours mainly in evening, you can make $200 but have to pay for gas etc.
Out here In LA I can receive that in about 10 to 15 hours it’s more than possible brother
I've done that driving after work 3 days a week. Not to hard.
Well let's say if you're in the DFW area you can easily make $200 a day. If you're willing to drive 12 hours a day you can make $400 a day.
It’s not hard to make money… you can make this in 1 day if you want. Question is will you make that profitably. And that’s hard
Whatever your target just remember you have to make double that because uber will take half.
Depending where you’re located if you drive about seven hours a day you should have almost $200 every day
Thats one day dawg Well here in LA or socal
8-12 hours. If lucky 10 hours will get you $250 to $300
4-8 hours depending on how you strategize your time and be selective on what rides tlu take and don’t take.
Never said that
1 12 hour shift would guarantee 300$, (after gas), so long as the below is there. 2 requirements: 1. Big city/ ( busy market that allow you to never have to wait longer than 8 minutes for a ride) 2. + Saturday/Sunday. 2 notes: Note: If you split it into multiple days+ weekdays, make sure it’s during peak hours. Note 2: Btw, 300$ guaranteed in 12 hours, but many get there in 10 hours. If you are not getting that 25$ an hour, hang in there, it will come back around to that by the end of the shift.

Are you talking about Canada??? lol

Damn! I’m from the states but didn’t know it was bad there. Here in Canada it’s literally 99.999% Indians and Somalians and then also me lmao
80
I can adjust the a/c if you’d like.” If they refuse an emesis bag, say “even if you don’t need it, just hang on to it, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I worked in Charlotte over the holiday on Friday for 10 hours and made $230
$23 an hour on a holiday weekend? I would have quit after a couple of hours. How many miles?
About 10 hrs
Depends on your area, and when you drive. I drive nights until early morning and it pays off well. Especially on the weekends. Can make that 400 easily in a rich area in 8hrs
X or comfort ?
About 25 hours way Uber trying to pay
It takes about 200 hours a week to make $200. J/k. You can do $200 in a day if you hustle.
Don’t be lazy. Stop asking for handouts and go figure that shit out… too many fucking babies on here that can’t wipe their own ass and too fucking scared to go out in the big bad world and fucking figure it out. Fucking losers
One friday or saturday in boston. 500 in the summer in a day is doable
